I hate to be that guy

No. They would roll Cleveland. The Bills are an 8-8/9-7 type football team. The Browns are one of the worst teams ever. Literally. -

This thread is a classic example of one side creating a straw man if there ever was one. One side: Hey I don't think the Bills are going to beat the Steelers. I don't think the Bills are going to run the table. I don't think the Bills are going to make the playoffs. BUT if they could somehow manage a win on Sunday, they're actually in fairly decent shape to make a run. The other side: How do you expect the Bills to beat the Steelers? I've been a Bills fan for X number of years and there's no way they make a run. The Bills ain't making any damn playoffs, you are dreaming, etc., etc. These are the same people who will re-open this thread to tell me I was wrong if the Bills lose on Sunday even though I've said over and over I don't expect them to win on Sunday. Reading comprehension, people. -

If Rex and Whaley are still here...

Yeah Rob Ryan sure ruined that Saints defense. They were so good before he got there and so much better since he left. -

The people on this thread making snide remarks about how the Bills suck and anyone entertaining the idea of the Bills making the playoffs are "dreamers" are really the worst kind of people. For the hundredth time, I don't think the Bills are going to beat the Steelers. I don't think the Bills are going to run the table. I don't think the Bills are going to make the playoffs. But IF the Bills beat the Steelers- which wouldn't be, like, insane- they could very easily win out. And I'm telling you right now, if they win out, they will much more likely than not make the playoffs. The whole thing isn't that far-fetched at all. Beat Pittsburgh with Cleveland coming up at home and the landscape changes dramatically. -
Hmm. I hadn't looked at this yet and kind of assumed there would be more critical guys that were gonna be FA's.

I also don't think they're going to beat the Steelers. -

They only need two losses from the Broncos, provided one of them is against either New England or Oakland. Plus, the Ravens could lose other games too. It isn't as exact as that. You are also including one specific Titans loss- the AFC South is not producing a SECOND 10-6 team so you don't have to worry about that. They all play each other. It's pretty much this simple: Broncos go 2-2 or worse (look at their schedule) Dolphins lose 1 of 3 not including game against us And then in the AFC North, the only thing that CAN'T happen is both teams finish 10-6 and Steelers win division. The odds of that happening are extremely remote. Again, they win out, they would more than likely get in. And if they beat the Steelers, who thinks they can't win out? -

That can't be right. At 10-6 they would hold tiebreaker over Denver as long as Denver goes 2-2 and loses at least one game to New England OR Oakland. They would then just need Miami to lose 1 of their 3 games besides the game against us. The AFC North is a little trickier but I don't see a way they both get in as long as Baltimore loses this week at New England. Remember, they still play each other again too. That figure cannot be right. -

This poster overdoses on lack of reading comprehension and if he were to actually read my post would understand that I don't expect the Bills to win out but was merely stating that if they do, they would much more than likely make the playoffs. And if they beat the Steelers, winning out wouldn't be far-fetched whatsoever. -

Two things. One, they've already had a four game winning streak this season. Two, gun to my head, I'd also pick them to go 8-8. What I meant was if they beat the Steelers, they would have a favorable path to win out. If they win out, they will much more than likely make the playoffs. I would be happy to break that part of it down for you. -

You must not follow the lines each week if you think Miami would be favored at Buffalo in December assuming both teams were still alive. -

It definitely isn't. All they need to do is beat Pittsburgh- in a game in which they are 2 point underdogs- and it's almost more than likely they make the playoffs. -

Thats the thing- the Broncos can even go 2-2 and we'd have the tiebreaker over them if they lost to the Patriots. Look at their schedule, there's no way they're going 3-1. I'm telling you, if the Bills go 10-6, they'd almost definitely be in. This game this week is still big! -

I do too. -
But if they somehow figure out a way to beat the Steelers (I know, I don't think they will either), their path to the playoffs is actually pretty favorable- especially after the Jets' performance last night. I know, I know, they're a bunch of bums, Tyrod Taylor sucks, Rex needs to go, we're in the same spot we're always in at this point in the season, etc., etc. Just saying, on paper, they figure out a way to beat the Steelers, going 10-6 is well within their means and after spending some time looking at it yesterday, 10-6 MUCH more than likely gets them in. Key game will be New England beating Denver for us. That happens and I'd put it at 90%. Now crucify me.

Are we worse then Cleveland and or Detroit?

Bills need to Tank like the Sabres
metzelaars_lives replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ha you just included Teddy Bridgewater in the same class as Brees, Wilson, Carr and Rodgers? Let's see him have a better season than our own QB did last year first. -
We are in the same predicament every year. We are not winning out. That being said- and I posted it in another thread earlier- were they to somehow win out, they would much more than likely make the playoffs. See what happens if they beat Pittsburgh and then have Cleveland at home the following week. Things would change very quickly as far as the standings go. Again though, I fully expect them to lose to Pittsburgh.
-
God I hate being that guy but the second poster is right- if the Bills win out, they would very much more likely than not make the playoffs. I didn't believe him, so I spent about 15 minutes looking at other teams' schedules, tiebreakers, etc. If they can find a way to win on Sunday, they would actually be sitting in a pretty good position.
-
That's fair and I don't disagree. I was just responding to someone who said that anyone can just hand off to McCoy and Gillislee 25 times a game and the running game would look exactly the same. Taylor is a big part of what makes the running game go. But yes, I would absolutely take an efficient, traditional pocket passer and the 10th ranked running game over what we have. But I am in the Church of Tyrod, so what do I know?
-
I really hope you guys understand that the running game is better because Tyrod Taylor is the QB and other teams have to respect that he could keep the ball at any time. You really don't think you could put Charlie Whitehurst or whoever back there and the run game would be just as successful, do you? Again, this is why, despite his deficiencies as a passer- and there are many, enough for me to not argue that you let him go after this season- that he is a more effective overall QB than those who only harp on his passing realize.

Bills need to Tank like the Sabres
metzelaars_lives replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL doesn't work that way. In the NHL, if you pick first, 9/10 years you're going to get a sure fire slam dunk can't miss franchise forward. In the NFL, you could go through painstaking efforts to tank- and you'd have to really try- and by the time you get there, you could be looking at the draft where Erik Fisher goes 1st overall. Maybe you need to go around the league and discover that the majority of the best QB's were not drafted 1-2 overall. It's just not a sound strategy in the NFL. The Sabres couldn't have done it any better. Exactly. -
Name one bullet point there that you disagree with. Again, give me one bullet point from that past which is even debatable. Agreed. Of course myself or the Bills or NFL analysts and scouts aren't invoking the play of EJ Manuel when assessing Tyrod's play. I was only using him as a frame of reference- there are posters on here who believe Tyrod Taylor is even worse than EJ Manuel right now. Forget about EJ Manuel. Substitute Geno Smith. There are posters on here who believe Tyrod Taylor is even worse than Geno Smith right now.

If over the course of every five drives, we marched down the field and scored TD's twice and then had three 3 and outs, we'd win the Super Bowl.
