They were playing their first college football games. I wouldn't rush to judgment on MWC freshmen playing their first college football games at Big Ten schools with above average Big Ten defenses. Agreed! I'll be there.
-
They had incredible receivers last year. They all graduated. If you would've asked me before this season, I would've told you that their defense will be improved but their offense lost too many weapons. They will be worse than last year. Allen's numbers will probably be worse than last year. It's just frustrating- even the guy at halftime alluded to the "high-powered Wyoming offense." It's almost as if no one is paying attention to the actual circumstances. He did make some bad throws today- he's prone to those. But anyone who watched even today's game can see he has all the tools. Like I said, wait til they settle into their MWC schedule and his skill position players have a few college football games under their belts.
-
It's almost as if no one is factoring in that every single skill position player he's playing with except for CJ Johnson, who dropped a touchdown, last played in a football game in high school. Last year's team would have been right in this game with Iowa. Oh well.
-
I just can't believe people are now posting about every passing attempt when he has like 500 of them from last year for you to check out.
-
Agreed. But this game is the equivalent of watching an NFL QB play with practice squad guys against a starting NFL defense. People rushing to judge a guy based on this game is insane.
-
This thread is utterly ridiculous. Yeah that was a bad throw there. But do you people realize that he lost: -his starting running back (on the Falcons) -his second running back -his top receiver (on the Bears) -his second receiver (hung around Saints camp for a minute) -his starting tight end (on the Patriots last I checked) -his center (probably going to start for the Redskins) THIS IS HIS FIRST GAME WITH A BUNCH OF FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES WHO HAVE NEVER PLAYED TOGETHER AND IT ISN'T EVEN A PARTICULARLY GOOD RECRUITING CLASS AND IT'S AGAINST A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL OF COMPETITION. I'm not gonna pull the "I watch every Wyoming game so I know more than you" card anymore but please, have some perspective. They're not going to be very good this year. At the very least, wait til he plays against MWC competition for a few weeks.

He'll be on someone's PS at worst.
-
Well I didn't realize you watched multiple Wyoming games last season in their entirety. It was a fun season, right? That Boise State game was insane. The MWC Championship game was great too- tough loss. I was at both of those. How about the comeback win against San Diego State? That wild triple OT game at UNLV?? Gentry made some insane catches that game, huh? Looking like he'll stick with the Bears.

He is extremely accurate. Again, his completion % last year is very, very deceiving. Look at how many receptions his running backs had last year. He throws accurate footballs. I would concede that he has a bit of a "gunslinger" mentality that can lead to a boneheaded interception from time to time.
-
What don't you like about him exactly?
-
Again, if you read my full post, he's playing with all freshmen and sophomores- none of whom were big time recruits, mind you- in a big, loud Big 10 house. And it's his first game playing with them. Watch his highlight reels from last season. There's really nothing not to like about him, I promise you. It's just difficult for me to take your word for it when I have either watched or attended every game he's played as a college QB. There is no hype. He is the real deal.

Whoa. I guess I was reinstated. Good timing. OK here's the deal. I live in Denver. I am a huge Wyoming football fan. I watch literally every game. I went to three of them last year and will go to more this year. As far as Allen is concerned, a few things here: 1. He lost like every offensive weapon he had last year- literally like four guys on NFL rosters right now. This is a young, inexperienced group he's playing with today- against a stout Big 10 defense. Regardless, they won't be as good as last year and he will probably put up worse numbers than he did last year. 2. You guys are aware last season was his first and only season as a D1 college football player, right? 3. His completion % was deceivingly low last year because they had virtually no screen/running back dump off passing game whatsoever. The vast, vast majority of his passes last year were thrown downfield. Josh Allen should not be polarizing at all. He's a special talent. He has an absolute cannon, is big, strong, is a plus runner and throws across his body with more ease than any QB I've maybe ever seen. He's going to be an excellent pro.

Who would you smash a bottle for?
metzelaars_lives replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup and Randy Moss and Warren Sapp too. Put it this way: if they get Reuben Foster in the second round, I'll smash a beer bottle over my head in excitement. -
And by the way, if we take another mid round QB, suddenly we're the NY Jets. Buncha mediocre QB prospects who will never get enough reps to see their development through anyway cause there's too many of em on the roster. Take one if you love one but if you honestly think there isn't one worthy, do NOT take one for the sake of taking one. It's really not that complicated.
-
When is the last time an NFL team drafted a mid round project, sat him and "groomed" him for multiple years and then he turned out to be a viable NFL starter? People act like this happens all the time. And I'm not high on Cardale Jones myself but as others have pointed out, isn't this exactly what we already did last year? If he was a so-called "project" then why would we have already given up on him? At the end of the day, gotta trust your scouting. And Whaley has been a pretty decent drafter.

I'll give the OP credit- I think it's less crazy than I did before I read his post. -

Most Underrated QB in College Football
metzelaars_lives replied to #34fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Josh Allen from Wyoming is going to be a first round pick next season. And he's only played one year of college football (redshirt sophomore). He's like 6'5", is strong, can run and can throw a football across his body further than most QB's can throw a football period. -
It hasn't turned out to be a good trade but that doesn't mean it was a bad trade at the time. No one could have possibly foreseen his injury problems. He's obviously a beast when healthy. There's no way that if he does manage to put two straight fully healthy years together he's not a top ten type WR in this league. Especially on a team with a competent passing game.
-
Agreed with the people saying that you gotta trust your talent evaluators. I have said this time and time again lately but there are these narratives that take hold and everyone oversimplifies them and starts flinging them around and it drives me nuts. One is that the Bills offensive line always sucks and, this season for instance, RT is a pressing (top 2-3 round) draft need. It isn't. Our offensive line is one of the best in the league. They'll make do at RT. Few if any teams have guys as good as us at the other four positions. Number two, that you can just plug and play running backs and they're all the same/interchangeable. They're not. Lesean McCoy is a special player. Three is that trading down is always a good idea. It isn't. It's situational folks. There's going to be a COMPLETE STUD sitting there at 10. This is a very good top end draft. Losing to the Jets was a good thing. If your guy is there, you take him, if he's not, you don't. But trading down isn't always a no-brainer the way people make it out to be. I'm all about Corey Davis at 10. Would be the most exciting pick they could make in my opinion.
