Buffalo A Great City - For Real !!
metzelaars_lives replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love Buffalo. No matter how long I live elsewhere, it will always be considered home to me, period. In fact, I'll probably end up back there at some point sooner than later. But to those who cite cost of living, there is a reason the cost of living is what it is. As a general rule, San Diego, Denver, Seattle, Austin- these places are more pleasant places to hang out in than Buffalo. There are two types of Buffalonians: people who acknowledge this and say, hey ya know what, that may be but this is home to me and I love it for what is, all of my family is here, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else, etc. I respect these people very much and may become one at some point. And then there are your type 2 people like my brother who insist that Buffalo really is the best place in the world regardless of his family being there or anything else. I think these people are a little delusional, but that's just my humble opinion. -
Buffalo A Great City - For Real !!

Jesus, this sounds like me and my brothers arguing about the merits of Buffalo vs. Denver, where I live. And it's masturbating with a 'U' -
Eli- pretty close to a lock already Roethlisberger- a lock already Schaub- are you insane? Rivers- see: Schaub Losman- has about the same chance of making the Hall of Fame as Schaub and Rivers Please realize that making a Super Bowl doesn't get you admission to the Hall of Fame. Donovan McNabb has a better chance of making the Hall of Fame than either of those guys with a ring. Rivers is already past his prime and Schaub is really a game manager with a hell of a team around him.

Dude I know you're old school on this site and I respect you, but are you serious? This is Buffalo. This is not the New York Yankees and Alex Rodriguez. The ACTUAL media has been gentle on the guy. We now live in an era in which social media is part of the game, like it or not. You act as if there is another team in the NFL that if Mario Williams inked a $100 million contract and then played like he was acting in a football film in which he was supposed to play a defensive end who was getting stood up at the line so that the running back could breeze by him, that the fans would support him. This is a situation here folks. Could you imagine if this was happening in Philly?!? You think those fans would make him feel warm and cozy? Give me a break dude. And we should know as much as anyone that all it takes is one (one troll drove Tim Graham off of this site forever). So if Mario Williams signed with the Chargers and was under-achieving there, you're confident that every 15 year-old Chargers fan who had access to twitter would be like, "it's cool Mario, I still love you #don't_worry_Mario_will_pan_out_at_some_point? Get friggin real man.

Next years hype to the fan base??????????????????????
metzelaars_lives replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ya know, contrary to what a lot of people may think, the Bills could be in much worse shape. They're going to draft a frranchise QB next year and he will be stepping into as favorable a position as a rookie QB has in a few years. The Bills have as good an OL as any team in the league and the best running back tandem in the league. They will sell us on their new rookie QB and I'll be first in line. It's about friggin time we drafted a franchise QB and mark my words, it will happen. There is a zero percent chance that Nix and Brandon can sell anyone on entering into the 2013 season with Fitzpatrick as the starting QB. The defense is a different matter, but I think with a new DC, we may see better results. So the Bills are not completely hopeless, hapless, nor are they even re-building, they just need a few pieces to the puzzle. You sold? -
Pro Bowl- Who will be the Bills Representative
metzelaars_lives replied to davspo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're thinking of baseball. There have been several seasons recently that the Bills have had no players in the Pro Bowl. -
A couple things: I would be willing to bet that if you looked at all the Broncos games during their "run," that virtually all of them were at a different time than the Bills. Living in Denver, naturally, they were all on TV. Plus, I went to the game in Buffalo. I remember he played decent at Minnesota and yes, he made a throw in the Pittsburgh game. But other than that- take a look at the Miami game, the Chicago game and my God, the Buffalo game. In my 27 years of watching football, I have never seen a QB look that inept at actually throwng a football- EVER. And yes, two of those games they won. NOT BECAUSE OF HIM, BUT DESPITE HIM. And if you are admitting he's not in the top 32 QB's in the league, which OF COURSE HE ISN'T, it would be insane for anyone to think that, then why do you want him? And no, he is not better than Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is a low-end starting QB in the NFL/terrific back-up. What would happen if we had Tebow this year instead of Fitz? Assuming the defense didn't magically play better because of Tebow's inspirational powers? Do you see him willing us to victory with his spirit and determination in San Francisco? Once the second half collapse happened against New England, do you see him keeping up with Tom Brady in an aerial duel? No, in actuality, we would probably be 2-5, because I don't have the confidence he would have beaten the Browns.

Hey FWIW, Jason La Caforna (sp?) was just on the NFL pregame show on CBS and was asked about the possibility of Tebow being traded and he said, "no, they're not interested in trading him, no one wants him and even if the Jets wanted to trade him, they couldn't get anything for him. It's a moot point." La Caforna was clearly embarrassed to even be talking about it when there are real football issues to discuss. So me, most people on this board, every NFL GM and Jason La Caforna realize this is beyond ridiculous, but thanks to people like Peter Pan who think it's really cool that he demanded the ball in a meaningless late season game against the Texans in 2010, he continues to be pertinent.

OK, I never do this, but... 2013 NFL draft
metzelaars_lives replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm all about Tyler Bray. He's missed a few, but he is big, agile and has a freaking cannon. He's also made some great throws today as well. -
It seems as if the Bills are going to have 2 options: trade up to draft a Geno Smith or a Matt Barkley or draft a 2nd tier type of QB (see: Locker, Ponder, Dalton, Losman, et al), which is more of a 50/50 proposition. I guess I'm calling on the draft experts here, but I guess there are two ways of thinking: 1) you need to get a surefire prospect like an Andrew Luck or an RGIII at any cost or 2) you draft a hulking LB in the first round and then trade up to get a Tyler Bray at the end of the 1st/early 2nd. I've always been a type 1, but I could be persuaded. I think I'd be happy with a hulking LB from the SEC with a fraternity symbol branded on his arm and Tyler Bray. Couple notes here: I realize Luck is a once-a-generation prospect and neither Geno Smith or Barkley fit that bill. You don't have to tell me. And also, the Bills are going to end up winning 6 games, and drafting around 10 as per usual, so let's base it off of that assumption.

From one Pete to another: dude you gotta let it go man. In SEVERAL of those game the other poster cited, he was HISTORICALLY bad. I remember watching the Dolphins game last year and the announcer said that it was quite possibly the worst performance he had ever seen from an NFL QB. Same with the Chicago game. In the KC game I think he literally completed 2 passes the entire game. Did you actually watch any of these games? I watched all of them. It was a gimmick offense that admittedly caught a few teams offguard, but more than anything, three things factored into Denver's run last year: defense, clutch field goal kicking and an incredible stroke of luck. Not to sound like a jerk, but I really question your football IQ if you think this guy could is a legitimate starting QB in the NFL. And please do not include anything about Fitzpatrick in your response. Although he is clearly a better NFL QB than Tim Tebow, the Bills do need to draft a QB in the first round next year and I whole-heartedly believe that they will.
-
Yes. Mark Sanchez is a slightly below average starting NFL QB but like most slightly below average NFL QB's, if given a really, really good football team, he could win a Super Bowl as a game manager. He's already been to two AFC Championships. What did I say that's so hard for you to believe. As far as Tebow, I'm not responding to you. When Tim Tebow is handed the reins to be the starting QB of an NFL franchise again, then I will address you. So I guess we'll be talking... what, never?
-
What I mean is that Brady's 3 Super Bowl wins, especially when coupled with his additional 2 AFC Championships, is a greater feat given the talent he had on his teams than Montana's 4 Super Bowls with the 80's Niners and Bradshaw's 4 Super Bowls with the 70's Steelers. I think that Brady, Montana, Manning and Unitas are in a class by themselves and tier 2 would include Young, Favre, Marino, Elway and possibly Eli. Tier 3 would include Roethlisberger, Kelly, Aikman, Moon, Fouts, Bradshaw et al. And BTW, Kelly should have been a 2nd ballot HOF'er and Thurman should have been a 1st ballot HOF'er. FWIW.
-
I'm also 33 years old and I consider Tom Brady to be the greatest QB to ever play the game. 3 Super Bowl victories (way more impressive than Montana's 4), 2 additional AFC Championships including the first 16-0 season in football history. And during his 3 Super Bowl victories? Best receiver he ever threw to was Troy Brown. And these were not dominant defenses either. I really question your football IQ here. If you were to ask 100 football historians- your Steve Sabols (RIP), your John Claytons, Chris Berman, whoever, I don't care (please don't criticize one of these guys, I'm just picking names to make a point), 100 of them would place Tom Brady ahead of Jim Kelly all time. And also, surprised no one's made this point yet: The Pats would win the game as would the 2012 Panthers, because their players on both sides of the line would weigh 30 pounds more, they would be faster, more athletic and wouldn't go out to strip clubs before games and drink and smoke cigarettes. It's like any other sport. I'm sorry, but Shaquille O'Neal would have dominated in the 1950's. Wayne Gretzky would not score 200 points in a season in today's game. Well done.
-
Dude I freaking live in Denver. He sucks. Everyone knows he sucks. It's over. They would win games last year where he would be like 4-16 for 53 yards and an INT in the 4th quarter and then lead them on a drive in the last minute to win 10-7 on a 60 yard FG. Their defense played phenomenal during that stretch. Look what happened when they played real teams like New England. For that matter, DID YOU WATCH THE BILLS-BRONCOS GAME LAST YEAR? And don't tell me what I think about Fitz. They will draft a QB in the first round next year and Fitz will proudly serve as his backup and mentor. But at least Fitz's boxscore numbers look like real NFL numbers and not middle school numbers. Give me a friggin break with this Tebow crap. Cue: "but the kid can win" in 3...2...1...
-
Here is the end all be all for this thread: Ryan Fitzpatrick is a low end NFL starter and would make a terrific backup NFL QB. Tim Tebow, if not for his "intangibles" (ie. "he's a football player," let's make him the "protector" on our punt team/let's sell a few jerseys) would NOT BE ON AN NFL ROSTER. In other words, he's not good enough to be a 3rd string NFL QB. Done. Over. Stop.

Line-up change suggestions
metzelaars_lives replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills are tied for 12th in the league in sacks. Their pass rush is actually improved over last year. Not making excuses, they have been porous against the run and the pressure has been spotty. But it's not like their pass rush is abysmal relative to the rest of the league. -
Why would you DVR the game and then find out the score before watching it?
-
Legitimate question- even though this will never happen, but let us dream for a second- let's say the Bills are good someday, I don't know, 15, 20 years from now, what percentage of Bills fans would want them to close the roof for a meaningful game on a 30 degree December day with flurries? I wish they would just build a regular outdoor stadium on the waterfront with real grass. OK back to reality...
