A list of QBs I want to draft ahead of Josh Allen
metzelaars_lives replied to Jesse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't believe I'm even responding in this thread but man, one thing I've learned abut football fans over the years is that any fan that is so certain they know how good or bad a pro a college kid is going to be, despite opinions of coaches, scouts, analysts, etc., and doesn't realize what a crap shoot this is, is really the least educated fan. Like the lowest common denominator of fans. Like Biff from North Tonawanda with a thick, old time Buffalo accent calling in on the WGR whiner line wondering why we can't trade Roy and Pominville for Sidney Crosby. That is who the OP on this thread is to me. Reminds me of right before the 2011 draft when like half the posters on this website were all "bwahahahaha I can't believe Carolina is actually gonna draft Cam Newton lolz! What a bunch of morons hahaha!!" -
A list of QBs I want to draft ahead of Josh Allen

Wow. Awesome post. Great thread. -
Uggghh this is exhausting. You realize he was really good his sophomore year, which was his first year as a college QB and was named first team MWC QB and was the MWC preseason player of the year going into this year, right? For Christ's sake, people act like he sucked in college. He was the best player on the football field almost every game he played in. And yes, he lost everyone going into this past season and was playing with unheralded freshmen at every last skill position. I could go on but it doesn't seem to matter. I can't wait for this to be over.

As someone who has watched or attended every one of Allen's games as a college QB, I'm super impressed that you have a better idea as to how Josh Allen will be as a pro QB than myself, NFL scouts, analysts, coaches, etc. You have a real talent. And I'm only being half sarcastic; I'm not saying he's the be-all-end-all or that he's even the first QB on my board but the degree of certainty in your post is astonishing.

Bills OT Henderson will sign with Texans

People are obsessed with these comp picks. What, you get a like an extra pick at the end of the third round or something? That's kinda cool I guess. -
Rap Sheet: Bills pursuing Bradford for deal
metzelaars_lives replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have a personal grudge against him? Why? If you mean as a player, he's been unquestionably, objectively very good when healthy dating back to his last year on the Rams. He has also unquestionably, objectively had a hard time staying healthy. If for some strange reason the Bills could keep him healthy, you would personally get to like him. -
What is Cordy Glen's trade value?
metzelaars_lives replied to Bills Freak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looks like I'm in the minority here but we have a team with a lot of holes and not a lot of depth yet we just so happen to have two good tackles- something that most teams don't have. It's one of the strongest positions on our roster. Trading Glenn would just create another hole. I don't get it at all. -
Oh J**** C*****. There literally isn’t one aspect of playing the quarterback position that Josh Allen isn’t a vastly superior prospect at than EJ Manuel was. We’re talking about a guy who could very well go first overall in a good draft vs. a guy who should have and was projected to go in the third round in quite possibly the worst draft in NFL history.

As a Wyoming football fan, I'm not saying that Josh Allen is an ultra safe bet to succeed in the NFL and I definitely think he'd be best-served going to a team like San Diego and sitting for a couple years (in which case I think he absolutely would succeed) but the degree to which people are scoffing at him on here is really, really ignorant. My closest comparison for Allen is Cam Newton and it reminds me a lot of when like 50% of this website was all "bwahahahaha I can't believe Carolina is actually taking Newton at 1, what a bunch of morons lolz."
-
Classic TBD fallacies: our offensive line always sucks even when it doesn’t and we always need offensive line help even when we really don’t; trading down always good, trading up always bad. Tell that to the Rams, Eagles, Texans, Falcons (Julio Jones), Chiefs (if Mahomes works out), etc., etc., etc...

For those who promised to not watch the game

How could anyone who loves NFL football so much as to actively spend time on an NFL football team's message board, not watch the Super Bowl? -

Ha we definitely went to high school together. And if 80 is your birth year that makes perfect sense (I'm 79). Recognized her right away. -
Well the 'Montana's 4-0 > Brady's 4-2' people have sure gone quiet. Prior to last season, they made up at least 10-15% of the people who engaged in this discussion. They were basically arguing that Montana helped himself by losing two NFC Championship games and that playing in a Super Bowl is a risky proposition because if you lose, that's worse than going 7-9 that year. But I digress. Yes, Tom Brady, has achieved Michael Jordan/Wayne Gretzky status indeed. He has firmly supplanted Jerry Rice as the greatest football player to ever live.
-
Of course I don't believe this. I am completely mocking anyone who doesn't think that, not only is Tom Brady the greatest football player to ever live, but, more specifically, the morons who used to insist that Montana's 4-0 > Brady's 4-2, which was the most absurd, backwards, illogical argument ever perpetrated on this website.
-
I think everyone can agree that Joe Montana was a vastly superior all time QB than Brady when Brady was 4-2 in Super Bowls (of course, Montana is a perfect 4-0). But after last year, a lot of people started to suggest that 5-2 was better than 4-0. Not me. Where I come from, you cannot beat perfect. But now that Brady has slipped all the way to 5-3, how does this affect his legacy? Personally, I think it took a huge hit tonight. Losing to Nick Foles? Are you kidding me?? I think Brady slides a few spots after tonight's game for sure. I mean, he could even win a few more and never catch Troy Aikman, who is a perfect 3-0. 3 losses is historically bad. That ties him with Fran Tarkenton for crying out loud! Look at other all time great QB's in Brady's tier- Marino (only 1 loss), Favre (1 loss), Manning (2 losses), etc. Long story short, he cannot afford to lose another Super Bowl or else people may begin to discount his wins altogether. Thoughts?

Which team was better? 2014 or this years?
metzelaars_lives replied to Kmart128's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course the 2014 team. -
While I actually agree with you re: Allen as a project, he was excellent last season in his first year as a D1 QB. He was the first team MWC QB and won some big games. The love for him should be easy to get if you watched his TD passes in the bowl game last week. The first TD throw he made is a throw maybe only a handful of current NFL QB's can make. He can throw the ball farther than anyone and he can make the tough across his body throws unlike few QB's I've ever seen. Plus he is big and strong, has an uncanny ability to get out of pressure and is a better runner than Luck and probably Rodgers too. The extent to which he had nothing to work with this season sounds cliche and redundant but believe me when I tell you that he had nothing to work with this season. It's not like his skill set regressed from his sophomore season.

I know only one thing for certain: people will have wildly confident opinions about these guys and other potential first round QB's all winter long, despite being incredibly uninformed and only actually watching them play for tiny little snippets. That being said, I have watched every game Josh Allen has played as D1 QB and I am one of the guys I just described when it comes to the rest of the QB's in this conversation. I like Mayfield. I think Josh Allen would be perfect going to a team like San Diego, New Orleans or even Green Bay. And I wouldn't be so quick to rule the Bills out of going after any QB, including Rosen or Darnold. Do NOT be surprised if they mortgage a bunch of picks to move up and get the guy they want.
-
Neither of those guys should be starting right now with the personnel they currently have. Plus they really like McDermott. Plus they paid decent money for Groy, who they inexplicably don't use. There is absolutely zero reason to panic as far as the OL is concerned. They're fine there. They're gonna need two starting linebackers, which is a far more pressing concern.
-
Yes, he will. Whatever his stock is right now, will only increase at the combine. In fact, he will see the biggest raise in his stock at the combine of any QB in the draft. Did anyone see the throw Wentz made last night? That's EXACTLY what Allen brings to the table. He does need to fine tune some things but you are correct, he will absolutely be in the top 5 QB's taken. Kiper and McShay haven't wavered on that point for one second all season. The offensive line is fine. The scheme sucks. You could conceivably have Glenn, Incognito, Wood, Groy and Dawkins as your line next year. That's an elite line. They're gonna need to go front seven with at least two, if not three, of those first four picks. I would be super psyched if they got Cousins but a) it's not happening and b) it's literally a $20 million+ difference per season vs. drafting your guy in the first round. Far more likely they go that route.
