Franchise has been around for a long time my friend. Quite a declaration about a second round pick (a second round pick is SUPPOSED to be good). Howard Ballard was drafted in the 11th round and was a pro-bowler on a team that went to four straight Super Bowls. And I'm sure there's plenty of guys before my time. Maybe a safer way to phrase it would be "best OL value in last 5-10 years" or something.

Bucky Gleason's article on Nix...Do you agree?
metzelaars_lives replied to KOKBILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Spiller was a great pick, Carrington looks like a pretty good pick, Dareus was certainly the right pick at the time by anyone's calculation, jury still out on Searcy, Sheppard looked like a steal at the time (although I don't think it's happening for him), Gilmore will be just fine and Glenn was a great pick. Don't forget picking up Chandler off waivers as well as Rinehart. He's actually been a pretty decent GM except for his three "cute" picks: Troup over Gronkowski, Williams over Kaepernick and Graham over Wilson. Which, don't get me wrong are GIANT-sized disaster picks. But you, peter pan, still think Tebow was worth a first-rounder, so it's always difficult to take your assessment seriously. -
Bucky Gleason's article on Nix...Do you agree?
metzelaars_lives replied to KOKBILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree with the point of the article, which is to not feel like you're forced to take a QB in the first round this year just because you've blown it in previous years by passing on guys. But it sounds like- and forgive me if some else already mentioned this- Bucky simply isn't following the draft like nearly everyone on TBD is. He mentions Nassib and Glennon 4-5 times each and doesn't mention Tyler Wilson once, who at this point is pretty much the consensus #3 QB in the draft. Nor does he mention Tyler Bray who, despite his tattoo, will most likely be off the board before Nassib. At one point he talks about the possibility that Nassib may fall out of the first round. I'd be shocked if he went in the first round and probably even the second round for that matter. Does he do any research before writing his articles? -
You've obviously never had him on your fantasy team. It's literally what he's most known for at this point. And he had a nagging shoulder injury all last year. Isn't it amusing how we scrutinize our own players to death and just blindly assume that guys on other team are great players? Scott Chandler is a better tight end than Jermichael Finley. Period. End of story.

Agreed. It's either they sign a Dwayne Bowe (or, knowing the Bills, it will probably be Brian Hartline) or they draft a WR in the FIRST round. If not, I can't help but think they're tanking 2013.

Kind of a dopey post, but I think there's a 50/50 chance you're right. We'll know after free agency. The David Nelson move makes no sense whatsoever and makes us a worse football team right now (albeit marginally) but if they end up signing Dwayne Bowe, I guess it will vindicate the Nelson move and nullify your theory. I don't think it takes a football scholar to speculate that there's a chance they may Colts 2011 this season though. And if that is indeed the case, I think 90% of this board would be cool with it.

What Positions Do We NOT Need To Draft??
metzelaars_lives replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This board has such incredibly unrealistic expectations of what a good ofeensive line looks like. WE'VE HAD ONE FOR TWO YEARS NOW!!! At what cost do you draft a tackle? Instead of a linebacker??? Hairston is decent but enormous and still young, Pears is fine, Sanders even has potential and they just re-signed Colin Brown who actually has a pretty good pedigree. For a rookie, Cordy Glenn looked fantastic! Do you really think they're ever going to assemble a line of 5 pro bowlers? The line is fine. Honestly, I wouldn't even want them to draft a guard even if Levitre walks. Plug someone else in there. We need freaking playmakers man. -
What Positions Do We NOT Need To Draft??
metzelaars_lives replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Give me a break, this team is not as hopeless as you make them out to be. Every team has needs. I think everyone on this board would think it a waste if they drafted any of the following positions in the first 3 rounds: O-Line (assuming they re-sign Levitre and frankly, even if they don't), RB (if you come back by discussing the Bills' 3rd string RB situation, then you don't know anything about football), Safety (they already stated they'd at least franchise Byrd) or D-Line. Not every team has polished quality starters at every position. The Bills desperately need linebackers, receivers and a quarterback. If they believe in Brooks and/or Searcy, I don't mind them signing a marginal veteran to compete with either of them and addressing other needs in the draft. -
I know right? The last thing we need is a quarterback who has had a QB rating over 100 each of the last two seasons. Did you see him play in that game against us last year? PLEASE GOD NO!!!!! Great call. Very interesting.

Tyler Bray - QB - Tennessee
metzelaars_lives replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is that really his tattoo? If so, I'm officially off the Tyler Bray bandwagon. Which I've been on. And I agree with you, but I was never aware of Losman being a douche (he seemed a little cheesy but harmless). I always thought he was a pretty nice guy. Where are you getting this from? All indications are that Bray is a dick. Cutler is obviously a dick. Not sure it's fair to put Losman in that category. -
Number one, third string RB is not a very crucial position on the roster and two, I'm sure they'll be able to find someone to plug that hole and he'll be just fine in his role getting 15 carries next season.

QB Report from the Combine
metzelaars_lives replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's my guy. Been saying it all along. Bottom line, you can look at comments like this about every QB in every draft class since they started doing this thing and none of them- save for Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning- had no question marks. Imagine what myst have been said about Tom Brady! With my limited insight, I still think that it will go Smith-Barkley-Wilson, with Barkley going to Arizona and the Bills taking Wilson, if not at 8, then later in the first round. I do not think he will make it out of round 1. Ahh screw it, I'm calling it right now: Patterson in the 1st, Tyler Bray in the 2nd. Why the f*** not? -

Where would this kid have finished in the Hesiman voting if he didn't have a bunch of erratically thrown balls land right in his hands? -

At this point whoever they take, I will watch a youtube video of his highlights- probably on this website- and I will be extremely excited about him. -
Bills to let David Nelson walk?
metzelaars_lives replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm pissed. This is a bad move. Unless they know something about his recovery- or there lack of- that no one else does, this makes zero sense. The last thing I want to do is overstate the obvious and say the same stuff that every poster does, but Jesus, if Ruvell Martin is on this football team next year and David Nelson is not and then David Nelson, predictably, is a dependable solid receiver elsewhere, I'm gonna freaking lose it. This is a very bad move. I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this is borderline preposterous. May they be tanking 2013 for Johnny Manziel? It is an absolutely legitimate question at this point. WR depth: 1. Stevie Johnson 2. T.J. Graham 3. Ruvell Martin 4. Marcus Easley. Can you say Super Bowl? The only way they can make this right is if they break the bank to sign Dwayne Bowe or one of the other big name free agents at WR. Period, end of story. -
Bills to let David Nelson walk?
metzelaars_lives replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm already pissed they let George Wilson go, but that one I could KIND OF see. I will be extremely pissed if this is true as it makes ZERO sense. He is as dependable a #3 receiver as you're going to find. Do they need an upgrade at WR? Yes, but Nelson is very good at what he does. -
Astro's 2013 Not Too Early Bills Mock
metzelaars_lives replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just don't see how you can justify taking a cornerback in the first round when you have NO LINEBACKERS -
Alex Smith is far from garbage. He would easily be the best QB on our roster. Problem is, it's not gonna happen on account of them re-signing Jackson and (if they do) pay Fitz his roster bonus. All indications are that it's a three-way cage match: rookie vs. Fitz vs. T Jax. In a perfect world, rookie wins starting job and either Fitz or T Jax clearly beats out the other one for the backup job and the other is cut for good.

OP, You are either trolling or don't know anything about football. It's one or the other. This is a PARTICULARLY difficult draft to predict. I remember the year that the Bills took Spiller, you could see the first ten picks fall down like domninos and you knew once one team took a guy, who the next team would take. I know that the combine always helps put the top ten picks into focus, but I would count on this year's draft being completely unpredictable. In February, you're telling me it's blatantly obvious that TYLER WILSON goes 7th overall? Personally that's who I think the Bills will and should take, but people who know way more than I do have him going in the 2nd round as of now. Which, again, is why I think you are trolling or, more likely, completely clueless.
