Who will be the best qb out of this class?
metzelaars_lives replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For all the people who speak with certainty on this topic, just be aware that you have no clue what you're talking about. People will be able to go back to this thread years from now and laugh at you. Just like all the people who posted stuff like, "Ha!!! Thank you Carolina! Cam Newton is obviously going to be a bust!!! LOL!!!" The bottom line is that NOBODY KNOWS. It is a complete and utter crap shoot. All that being said, I believe that Manuel and Bray have the biggest upside. I think that Barkley is the most pro-ready. I think Wilson is the toughest and best leader- perhaps the most Jim Kelly-esque. I do not want Ryan Nassib. But again, I have no idea. Any one of them will get me excited at this point. My gut: they take Geno Smith at 8. -
Nice to see some historical perspective. I get tired of posters on this website who just started following the Bills within the last decade hurling out superlatives like "J.P. Losman is the worst Bills quarterback ever!" and the like. Oh really? You saw Bruce Mathison play and have compared and contrasted his skills to those of Losman? Now granted I only go back to about '85 myself but I am aware that there is a history of the Bills before I was alive and old enough to follow them. Reminds me of kids I worked with at my last job who thought Old School and Wedding Crashers were the best comedies ever made. Used to really piss me off. "What's Revenge of the Nerds?" "What's Spinal Tap?" "You're old." Alright, now I sould like an bitter old man and I'm only 34. Too much to drink. Goodnight. And FWIW, McCargo was a late first rounder and yeah, he was a disappointment, but I saw the guy make a couple plays. You have to understand that there are John McCargos every year for lots of different teams. The odds of a guy drafted that late in the first round making an impact in this league are better than 50% but not by as much as you may think.

I'm a traditionalist when it comes to uniforms so needless to say I hate them.

Chance Warmack - OG - Alabama

He sounds like an awesome guard- let's say for the sake of argument he is in fact one of the best guard prospects in decades. Fair enough. The bottom line is that Nix has already shown two things: number one, he doesn't value the guard position that highly, as evidenced by him letting Levitre walk. And two, say what you will about his GM skills, but if nothing else, the guy has shown a penchant for picking up offensive linemen on the cheap and making it work. Every conceivable sign points to the Bills not taking a guard at 8. Not to mention, the Bills know that they have to sell season tickets and you would hear a collective groan from WNY if the Bills were to take a guard at 8. And also, did you grow up in Ransom Oaks? -
Al Michaels charged with DUI

I wouldn't disagree with anything you just said. To the untrained drinker perhaps my comments sound incredibly ignorant. And yes, if I were in the .1 range and even if I had both hands on the wheel, was driving perfectly straight and, really, was driving the same way I would be if I was completely sober, I suppose that if someone jumped out in the middle of the road out of the complete blue, my reaction time would be slightly impaired. Granted. But my point is that the VAST majority of drinking and driving fatalaties, accidents, arrests, etc. are people who are completely smashed and/or are being careless. Like the idiot in Buffalo who got on the 33 going the wrong way. Having a few drinks as an experienced drinker and being in the .1 range, I'm not getting on a highway going the wrong way. And yes, I believe there is an element of "the idiots ruin it for the rest of us" involved, I really do. -

I've talked to several cops about this very matter. They will all tell you that 95% of the DUI's they issue are to people who are NOTICEABLY driving intoxicated- swerving, drifting, driving well below the speed limit, etc. I think most adults who are experienced drinkers can go out for the night, have a handful of drinks, maybe be at a point where they might blow a .10 but be absolutely no danger to anyone on the road. The people who kill people in drunk driving accidents are the people who I described above and/or are being careless. All that being said, Al Michaels, who I'm sure had a few drinks and was being perfectly responsible, ran the risk that I'm sure many of us do from time to time- you're fine to drive but there's always that chance you hit a checkpoint or you get pulled over for a tail light or something like that. And also, as someone who has driven in that grey area (you're fine to drive but you might be slightly over the limit) many times, I can tell you that driving while falling asleep and dozing off is a million times more dangerous. I think we've all been on the 90 late at night coming back from Syracuse or Rochester- perfectly sober- and feel lucky to be alive by the time we get home. -
On second thought...

We are Bills fans so we can be ceratin of two things: The Bills are not bottoming out this year as much as I'd like it to happen. As sure as the sun will rise, they will go 6-10 and pick 8th again next year. If somehow they do bottom out and pick first- which, again, is not happening- then, rest assured, Manziel will not declare. -

Hmm. Not sure what happened there, but I'm telling you- I could funnel two Budweisers right now and immediately get behind the wheel and drive all over town (I'd be at .06). For fans of Bud Light (in other words, people who don't actually like the taste of beer but like to drink), you're in luck because it only has an ABV of 4.2%, so you could probably get away with having an extra one here and there. -

You're way off man. I weigh 185 pounds so I consider myself to be a pretty average weight. A 12 ounce beer (unless it's like an IPA or one of many microbrews- but let's say a Budweiser for the sake of argument) has an ABV of 5% and is gonna put you at .03. Drink two of those in two hours and you're at .06 except you LOSE a beer an hour from your system, so you'd be back at .03. The legal limit is .08. The laws are designed so that you can go out, watch the game, have a few pops and still drive. In fact, the laws in the US are extremely lenient when contrasted with Europe. Now depending on your weight, what you've had to eat, your own body's ability to process alcohol, etc., these numbers can fluctuate a percentage point or two, but no, two beers in two hours is going to land anyone well under the legal limit. -

We had the tape for the games from the 1990 season: Phony Phoenix and Hey Oilers Goodbye are the two that come to mind. That's good stuff. -

That's fantastic insight right there. Your comment has lead me to change my stance on Barkley altogether. Do you have any more wisdom to share with us today? -

Really? He played literally his best football as a pro as straight up 3-4 NT during the 2010 season. Remember the Steelers game? One of the best single game performances I've ever seen. I would say though that in a perfect world, he Dareus and Carrington are all 4-3 DT's but what are yoiu gonna do. -
Actually he looked like our best WR during the preseason before the 2011 season. He was penciled in to start over Jones and Nelson before he came down with that heart issue. He looked great.
-
Agree 100%. The Bills are going to get their QB at either 8 or later in the 1st round. If they wait all the way til 41 to take him, then they couldn't have been that in love with him in the first place because they ran the risk that all those teams picking ahead of them in the early 2nd could've taken him before the Bills. It's looking more and more like Barkley or Nassib at 8 by the minute.

I've been to Denver 3X, KC 2X, Miami 2X, Seattle, San Diego and Green Bay and the thought of not wearing a Bills jersey to watch the Bills play is unfathomable (unless it's a game at the Ralph in week 16 and the Bills are their typical 5-9 and it's just downright embarrassing at that point). Anyone who wouldn't wear their Bills jersey to a road game* (I would maybe think twice about Oakland) sounds like a complete and utter girly man.

It took me five seconds for it to register with me that by "Bears" he meant the football team. That was the first thing I was thinking too.

Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Tennessee
metzelaars_lives replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the insight pal. Sure didn't work out for the Lions, Bengals or Falcons, huh? -
I want: -a WR in rounds 1 or 2. I feel like that is the threshhold by which you can pencil in a guy to start year 1 and get excited about him. If they took Patterson at 8, I would be extremely excited. I know he may not be a sure thing, but he's freakishly talented and his upside is insane. I hear people saying stuff like, "we can take care of WR in rounds 3 or 4." Can you? TJ Graham is what a 3rd round WR looks like. If you are serious about addressing the position, you must draft a WR in rounds 1 or 2, period. -a QB in rounds 1-3. Little different from WR in that I could excited about a Tyler Wilson or a Tyler Bray in the 3rd round. Either way, they are going to take a QB with one of their first 3 picks (probably first 2 cause Buddy can't roll the dice on his guy being there in the 3rd round) and whomever they draft, I will watch highlight reels of and become incredibly excited about because I am the eternal Bills optimist. -a LB in rounds 1-3 and probably round 4 also. ILB with one, OLB with the other. Done. P.S. If they take an offensive lineman with any of their first 4 picks I would be both surprised and disappointed.
-
This mentality is ridiculous and fortunately the Bills aren't thinking like you so it's a moot point. The Bills are not going to go OL at 8. Period, end of story. They are a team with a lot of holes. They've had one of the best OL's in football for the last two years. So because you feel just "OK" about Kraig Urbik, that's a need? Uh, we have NO LINEBACKERS! T.J. GRAHAM IS OUR #2 RECEIVER! No team- certainly not the Bills- is going to trot out 22 guys that you feel "great" about every year. The Bills OL will be fine. Yes, they need to draft a guard at some point to compete with Colin Brown (who they just re-signed and has a pretty good pedigree, look him up), but my God, not at 8. Not to mention, Buddy Nix has clearly demonstrated that he doesn't value the guard position and, if nothing else, has done a tremendous job piecing together an excellent OL comprised mostly of other teams' practice squad players. Expect more of the same.

Fitz was way better and way more instrumental in his teams' hot starts in 2011 than Kolb was in 2012. Fitz was the AFC offensive player of the month for September.
