Bon Jovi Linked to Bills again
metzelaars_lives replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Imagine if Bongiovi actually did buy the Bills and swiftly moved them to Toronto. People in Buffalo would hate him so much. He could never come there ever again and every time one of his songs came on anywhere in Buffalo, people would curse him up and down and start throwing stuff. To be honest with you, I hate the guy already for even thinking about it. -
Bon Jovi Linked to Bills again

Let's take a football team that represents and means everything to a blue collar community and move them to an upscale, transient, corporate metropolis that could care less about football- and, to take it a step further, a region whose own inhabitants that actually root for said football team pretty much universally want the team to stay in the blue collar city despite the commute because it's such a raging party down there- because it's a sound business investment. How rock n' roll. -
This movie looks terrible. I'm as big a football fan as anyone but that doesn't mean I'm going to see a terrible movie just because it's about football. If somehow it has good reviews on rotten tomatoes then I suppose I'd consider going but I'm quite sure it won't.

Ahh yes, my all-time pet peeve thread where half the people, in a blatant attempt to let the rest of us know that they're smarter than us, will adamantly state with exclamation points how they would never want the Bills on Hard Knocks because it would be some sort of distraction when, in actuality, it would be porn for Bills fans and everyone last one of us would watch and love every second of it. And yeah, Chandler, you need to watch it. Every season of that show has been must-see TV for any football fan with the exception of the Dolphins season, which sucked.

Who would you rather...?
metzelaars_lives replied to Flutie7Flakes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is a different conversation altogether. I was talking about the notion of shying away from a player at 9 that you like based on who you drafted last year. Unless you're the Colts and you drafted Andrew Luck last year, you take your man. And as far as taking a QB at 9, that's why you scout the players. If they think Manziel is the best QB to come out since Luck, you take him. I don't think that's the case and I don't they will take a QB at 9 regardless of who's there but that being said, if they did, it certainly wouldn't be "typical Buffalo." In fact, it would be atypical Buffalo. EDIT: And also, dude, our receivers average 6'2" to 6-5"?? We have three receivers- SJ, Evans and Goodwin. You simply cannot factor guys on the practice squad into the equation when deciding you're taking at 9. "Hey we like Mike Evans but we have Ramses Barden and Kevin Elliott?" Now that is typical Bills. -

Doesn't matter. I made this point in another thread. If you love Evans, you take him. You don't say, "we really like Ray Lewis but we just took a LB in the 2nd and 3rd last year." WR is still a position of need regardless of who they picked last year. Especially a tall one. -
+1. EJ Manuel could turn out to be a complete bust and the Bills could completely suck again this year and I wouldn't care one bit if we got an owner to commit to Buffalo long term. The Bills will be good again someday. It's the law of averages. All I care about at all is the Bills staying in Buffalo.

First round pick must be a pass rusher.
metzelaars_lives replied to Buffalo Beeeews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No it mustn't. -
Fair enough. I guess I was thinking about a recent thread where someone said that they don't need to draft Evans or Ebron because they already have Ramses Barden.

Kevin Elliott? You don't not take a player you think is going to be a stud because you have Kevin Elliott waiting in the wings on your practice squad. If you like Mike Evans, take him. If you don't, don't. If you don't and that gives a guy like Elliott a better shot at seeing reps, so be it. But I can assure you that Kevin Elliott is not affecting the Bills' draft strategy. That's like saying, "yeah we really like Teddy Bridgewater but we already have Jeff Tuel and he's tall too..."

The Bills are doing an excellent job in Free Agency

Well written post, no doubt about it. I think, however, that this is a classic example of over-dramatizing the effects that scheme has on productivity. Several years ago, the Ravens drafted Terrence Cody, a classic 3-4 NT if there ever was one. Well, they already had Haloti Ngata at NT so when Cody showed he could play, they made room for him and put him at DE. It's what the Ravens and Steelers have been doing forever: you put good football players on the field, it doesn't matter if it's a 3-4, 4-3, whatever. At the end of the day, 5 of the 7 starters on the Bills' front 7 are Brandon Spikes, Mario Williams, Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams and Kiko Alonso. They are going to be good, don't worry. Not to mention, and here is the most important point of all: THEY RAN A 4-3 LAST YEAR TOO. So to suggest that Manny Lawson, who, by any account, had an excellent season last year, is going to be running around yelling, "what do I do, I forgot how to play football" because we have a new defensive coordinator, is preposterous. All that being said, I would like to think that Schwartz would come in and say, "hey you guys got a lot of sacks last year, what worked for you?" -
"I can't even enjoy being on this beautiful beach with my beautiful wife and living pretty much a perfect life because there are a bunch of fans on a fansite for a team that I've beaten 22 out of 24 times who are really grasping at straws to poke fun at me while they're staying at home on a Saturday night."

I am lifelong Bills and Sabres fan but my two favorite athletes ever are Trevor Linden and Steve Largent. Don't ask me why, just loved both of them since when I was a kid. Have a sweet framed Linden poster from his rookie year in my office to this day. Also, I hate Peyton Manning. And I think it's because of discussions like these when people say, "I don't care if you're a Broncos fan, you gotta love Manning." No I don't. That's exactly why I don't.

Bills need to poop or get off the pot.
metzelaars_lives replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See this is an intelligent post. The only thing I would say is that both Wilson and especially Kaepernick showed flashes of brilliance in 2012 (realize Kaepernick wasn't a rookie). EJ didn't really show me much to make me believe he's going to be a franchise QB. He can throw and he can run, but he appears to be sorely lacking in his quick decision making abilities. Needless to say, I hope I'm wrong. And I absolutely agree that he should be given all of 2014 to develop no matter what happens. -

Hey we agree! When people ask me about EJ, I tell them, "the jury is still out but my gut says it's not happening." That is how I talk about football players' futures. My gut is that Johnny Manziel is going to be a good pro. But it seems like literally most people on here are like, "If the Bills drafted Manziel it would be the stupidest thing they've ever done." Or else "if the Bills draft (player who's projected to go in the second round) in the second round, I'm done with this team." I'll never forget when it became apparent on here that Cam Newton was going no. 1 to Carolina, half of this board was like, "Ha! Thanks Carolina! LOL! He's obviously going to be a bust... I know this because I watched half of an Auburn game in November..." I'm sure if there was an Indianapolis Colts fansite in 1998, half the people on there would've been mocking the Colts for taking Manning over Leaf. People on here need to preface things with, "I could be wrong but I have a feeling..." more often. The constant certainty of how good draft prospects are going to be as pros is really tiresome. All that being said, I actually agree with the OP on this one. In fact, when I heard the rumor yesterday, my initial instinct was that that meant they were going after Manziel. And I don't think they'll trade up to 1, but if they did, I would bet they would use the pick to take Manziel. -

metzelaars_lives replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't read every post on here but my biggest pet peeve is posters who are certain as to whether or not Manziel (or any prospect for that matter) will be a good pro. Nobody knows. If there is one prospect that I would wager is a shoe-in to be a good pro, it's Jake Matthews. That being said, tackles don't win championships. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm with the OP. Sure would be exciting. Case and point. This poster is being condescending about the idea but what if Manziel is a first team all-pro three years from now? Then your (proper use of "your") post will look stupid. Plain and Simple. Why can't we admit that we don't know if he's going to be good? -
OK we got it dude. I think this is where I see a reason for optimism. Besides Los Angeles, which looks likes it's going to get a team regardless, is there a better football market in North America than Buffalo that doesn't already have a team? Sacramento? Umm, no. Portland? No indication whatsoever that Portland is a football town and they are very close to Seattle. OKC, San Antonio? Bigger markets than Buffalo but would they be better football markets than Buffalo? The Bills are not at the bottom of the league in terms of revenue generated each year. It would be a huge gamble by a prospective owner to think that any of these cities would be a better long-term income generator than Buffalo. This thread should be one post long: build new stadium, keep team. Don't build new stadium, may very well lose team but not even necessarily.

Man I really hope Jim Kelly doesn't read these threads. Let's see what the doctors say after the surgery, alright? Geez.
-
Honestly I think either a) they will have their situation shored up by then (new stadium) or b) someone will buy the team and figure out a way to break the lease or else just eat the $400 million. I think the least likely scenario is that someone buys the team and then moves them 5-6 years later.

Furthermore, when juxtaposed with the other jokes, this joke insinuates that Rex Ryan actually does not like women's feet, which, as we know, he does.
