I didn't have a problem with this call at the time and now I have even less of a problem with it. My issue remains with the Chandler penalty. It negated a first down and we end up punting on that drive. Anyone have a vine on that one?

Daniel Jeremiah Ranks Beckham Ahead of Watkins
metzelaars_lives replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem is that too many people on here are really only familiar with the Bills' situation. Yes we could use an upgrade at TE, sure. Yes we have had poor guard play and will address it in the offseason. QB is a tricky one- Orton is a below average starting QB in the NFL but at least he is a real QB. We'll see how that one plays out. But what you don't understand is that there are no teams out there that are like, "yup we pretty much got it all covered. No holes anywhere." Relative to the rest of the league the Bills have far fewer gaping holes (perhaps guard is one) than most teams. Even going into this past year's draft, I heard a lot of experts saying that for a team drafting 9th, the Bills have relatively few holes. We've shored up LB this year with the drafting of Brown and the emergence of Bradham. The Bills are gonna be fine once they learn how to win. Sit back, relax and enjoy having an elite defense. -
Dude you are either trolling, in which case, congrats you have stolen five minutes from my day or you are making a case for dumbest poster on here- right up there with a gentleman with a name eerily similar to your own. Do you not realize that I could do this at any position? Who are the consensus "big four" QB's?" Manning- 1st overall, Brady- 6th rounder, Brees- 2nd rounder and Rodgers- what, 24th overall? It is not an exact science drafting at any position, that's the point. Sammy Watkins was about as sure a thing as you're gonna find. And please don't make the "zero super bowls" argument. JJ Watt will have zero super bowls after this season. Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham, Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson, Darelle Revis = zero super bowls. It takes 53 my friend. But what do I know, I'm just a casual fan.

What happens if The Bills lose Thursday?

Wouldn't that make you happy. -
When do the phantom calls against us stop??
metzelaars_lives replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree with the first two but the call on Chandler was utterly preposterous. Come on dude. -
That's all that needs to be said. Period.

ehh that's easy for you to say. Who knows where they'd both be today if hardy got to play with Rodgers and Nelson had to go play with Trent Edwards. I liked the hardy pick at the time; it was very un bills-like for that regime. Were you similarly laughing at the bears when they took alshon Jeffery in the second round? You must've been having a real hoot in your draft room when the bucs took warren sapp and when the vikings took randy moss.

in today's nfl I would certainly add wr to that list. Pretty nice having an elite wr isn't it? To that point I would much rather have Sammy Watkins and issues at guard than a good interior line and TJ Graham in my starting lineup. P.s. I hate ragging on Graham, he seemed like a really nice guy. I would genuinely feel bad if he ever read the way I talk about him.
-
all three of the linemen he drafted were GREAT value at the time he picked them. Not to mention two of them were late rounders. Let's give it a year, shall we? The Chris Williams signing was the dumbest move this organization has made since the drafting of TJ Graham.

Two years ago, our guard play was excellent when they had Levitre and Urbik (playing at a much higher level than last year). While I would concede that their guard play is in fact the worst in the NFL and is quite a hindrance to our offense at the moment, I am not that concerned that it's not something that can be fixed. I look at guards the same way I look at middle relievers. You can pick one up off the scrap heap and they can work out for a few years and then suddenly they're not so good anymore (see Urbik). I guess my point is- and I think Joe B, who I actually respect quite a bit, would agree with me- that I'm not too worried about it going into next year. They'll figure something out. And to your point, if they use a 2nd rounder on a guard, that's fine too. But like every other position on the football field, young players need time to develop. Who's to say Richardson won't develop into a quality starter. He definitely has the pedigree.

Updated: The AFC Playoff Picture
metzelaars_lives replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The irony in this post is unbelievable. Coming from the person who after 4-5 games was insisting the Bills were not 1st against the run because they had given up more yards than teams that had byes despite the fact that they were in fact 1st in YPG allowed. -
The London Series and the European Expansion
metzelaars_lives replied to Coach55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I agree that your plan makes more sense than I thought it would logistically, I guess my question to you would be, why do you want the NFL in Europe? How exactly would that enhance your experience as an NFL fan? As others stated, I think the rosters are saturated enough as it is with 32 teams and you add to that the fact that less and less kids are playing football- that trend is only going to perpetuate itself. Plus as a player, how much would that suck if you got drafted to the Berlin team? Great city but would be kind of a pain in the ass from a travel/family standpoint. -
Weren't the Orton bashers/EJ supporters/wingnuts bringing up stats just last week that indicated that Orton wasn't throwing the ball downfield any more often or more effectively than Manuel? I even conceded in a thread that the numbers surprised me. These numbers seem to contradict those a bit. Not sure what to believe. Going back to the eye test: Orton throws the ball downfield more often and much more effectively.

Asking For Thoughts and Prayers
metzelaars_lives replied to Rob's House's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Bills Fan 4 ever, as far as I can tell you have spent the last month on a crusade telling everyone that the Bills defense really isn't that good and that EJ Manuel is good and that Kyle Orton sucks. And the more your opinions look ridiculous and the more you get backed into a corner, the more you try and defend yourself by misstating facts and contradicting yourself. Two examples: you continually failed to grasp the concept that the Bills' rushing defense was actually ranked higher when there were teams ahead of them when you looked at total yardage allowed because they had a bye and thus had allowed less yards despite the fact that they had allowed more yards per game. And also, you harped on EJ being a winner and wins are the only thing that matter and wins, wins, wins and then when Orton won, you kept talking about how much more he gets sacked than EJ. From a fellow Bills fan (not an enemy), you do kind of make yourself an easy target. -
EJ vs Orton (stat comparison)
metzelaars_lives replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will concede that some of the numbers on this thread surprised me a bit. It sure seems to me like Orton throws the ball downfield a lot more than EJ. Who knows, maybe if we let Manuel ride it out for another couple years he might be as good as Kyle Orton is now. If you're the Jets, the Titans, the Raiders or the Rams, maybe you do that with a young QB. But we have a team that is built to win right now and I don't think anyone- me, the vast majority of the fans, the coaches, management, certainly not Sammy Watkins or Robert Woods- felt like waiting around any longer. Again, all I want is to watch a f'ing playoff game in January. I want to buy a 12 pack, fire up the grill and settle on my couch to watch the Bills play a f'ing playoff game. My issue is with the people- you know who you are- who were arguing then, and even after Orton's first couple games, that he wasn't that much of an upgrade over EJ in 2014. That he didn't give us that much better of a chance to win now. 26 Corner Blitz started out as one of those guys but has come around. Bills fan 4 ever, my question to you is, do you still believe this? -
EJ vs Orton (stat comparison)
metzelaars_lives replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Geez you'd think as a Bills fan- 4 ever mind you- that you'd be happy that the Bills are finally getting competent QB play for the first time since the beginning of 2011. Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger are always at the top of the league in sacks. Sometimes that's the trade off for keeping passes to wide receivers as an option in your arsenal. And as an Orton supporter and someone who thinks EJ will never amount to anything in this league, I am not a Marrone or Hackett hater as you suggest. Not sure where you got that idea from. I just want to make the g***amn playoffs. -
Resign Jerry Hughes
metzelaars_lives replied to Overseas Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was wondering the same thing. I thought he was playing pretty well myself. I can't imagine he would call it quits midseason despite the OP's request. -
Of course you would be weighing in on this one. And of course your response was predictable. And of course Kyle Orton and Ryan Fitzpatrick are the exact same person. So never extend a veteran QB ever again and only wait around for rookies to develop in the event that they are someday better than a stable veteran- which if recent NFL history has taught us anything, unless you are a blue chip/can't miss/Andrew Luck type, the odds of that happening are decidedly less than 50%. How much are you just waiting for Orton to have his first bad game so you can come on here and tell everyone about it? And for the record, I'm not advocating extending Orton tom'w. But if he plays at this level into next season, then it's a no brainer.

Kansas City; What's going to happen?

You sure we have a shot with Orton in there? He got sacked four times on Sunday ya know.
