What if our new coach is worse than Marrone?
metzelaars_lives replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel like in 2015 coaches in all sports are judged by how their team performs relative to their perceived talent. The bills had/have as much talent on the defensive side of the ball as just about any team in football. They have some playmakers on offense but were hampered by poor qb play. Honestly they ended up right about where they should have been at 9-7. That being said, if Denver beat Cincinnati in that Monday night game we would have finished 8-8. I think marrone banked on people looking at that 9-7 record and having them fooled into believing he somehow overachieved with this team. He did not. We will have 9-7 talent again- probably better once we upgrade at qb and factoring in a seemingly light schedule. It would be difficult for someone to come in and make this team worse. My two cents. -
Buddy Nix and 2 scouts dismissed

Wait a second- the bills had two scouts named David Smith? That should be the focus of this thread. -
Head Coach candidate: Rex Ryan

If they hire Ryan, he could bring in Sanchez and all he'd have to do is get the jersey changed to red and blue on his tattoo. In all seriousness Ryan + Sanchez + a defense no better than ours + fewer offensive weapons than we have right now ='d 2 AFC championship appearances. -
Hey bill, welcome back. I'm going to call you out on #2. Last year at Miami the bills had the ball with under two minutes in the first half and something like a 7 point lead from let's say their own 30. They tried (as I would have) to pass the ball with the hopes of maybe getting into field goal range and increasing their lead before the half. Instead they went 3 and out, punted and Miami marched down the field and scored before the half. After the game you absolutely berated marrone for his clock 'mismanagement' insisting they should have run the clock out and protected their small lead, and in fact cited that instance as an example of marrone's inability to manage the clock throughout the season. It was a point of contention for me with you that I called you out on several times. The moral of the story is you can't have it both ways- you cannot call them out for their lack of points in the last two minutes of the first half when you want them to go uber-conservative every time they have a 7 point lead in said situation.

Are the Pegulas in Over Their Heads?
metzelaars_lives replied to jjmac's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's the deal. We don't have a QB or a coach. It's not going to be difficult to upgrade at both. Once we have a new QB and coach, is the sky still falling? -

Why does Sullivan always insist the Sabres "paid dearly" for Regier hanging around an extra year or two. Weren't his last three trades Kassian for Hodgson, Gaustad for a first round pick and the Matt Moulson trade with the Islanders? They were trending downward. No GM could have come in and made them a playoff contender. In the grand scheme of things, Regier probably outlasted his welcome but I don't think the Sabres "paid dearly" for it, nor do I think they'd be any better off today if they fired him sooner. They should have traded Roy, Pominville and Vanek a little sooner and got the rebuild starter earlier if anything. But it's so easy for Sullivan to just throw stuff out there and assume nobody is going to call him out for it. -
Brady to the Bills ????? Possibility?
metzelaars_lives replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brilliant satire on dumb tbd posters. I hope. -
so we have no qb but you would pass on a guy who is one year removed from throwing 27 tds and 2 ints? He's not gonna be available anyway so don't worry.

TBD Thoughts on Coaches Yes! Eh. Or Heck NO!
metzelaars_lives replied to Lord_MacDonald's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After 51 years, that's what would do it for you? Do you have any idea how many coaches have failed at their first head coaching job and then succeeded elsewhere? Bill Belichick? Marv Levy? I actually like the idea of McDaniels- certainly over Adam Gase. -
Dan Carpenter snub

exactly. -
oh my god, the schopp hatred has really spiraled out of control. For one, he's not a broadcaster and secondly, have you listened to all the drive time sports guys in America before arriving at this conclusion? In Denver alone I can think of three prominent local guys who I am certain people would like less than schopp.

Could they now keep Spiller?
metzelaars_lives replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
well stated. I know people have mentioned it a million times on this board and there has been zero inkling of it being a possibility but man I would love it if they brought back gailey as oc. -

Coaches with dominant win-loss records aren't typically available. -
No first round pick? Why not trade Sammy?
metzelaars_lives replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If one more person tries to tell me that the verdict is in on the Watkins trade- if it wasn't for freaking Beckham everyone would be perfectly happy with the trade. For all we know Watkins will be in the hall of fame someday. It's a freaking 19th overall pick, get over it. I thought it was a good trade then and I think it's a good trade now. Of course I would take Beckham at 9 if I had it to do over but no one saw that coming. I wouldn't trade Watkins for anyone else we would've realistically drafted at 9 plus the 19th pick this year. To quote wind in his hair, "good trade." -
Head Coach Candidate: Frank Reich
metzelaars_lives replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's what I'm telling you. No this was an attempt at humor as yesterday the OP cited the liberal media as the reason the public had formulated a negative opinion of Adrian Peterson after beating his son. -
Head Coach Candidate: Frank Reich
metzelaars_lives replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know about Reich. I think his so-called success is just another product of the liberal media's blatant lies. -
Didn't even open other thread but we could debate what is worse- hitting a girl while driving and then peacing out without seeing if she's ok to avoid a dui + carrying a trunk full of unregistered guns or spanking your kid with a stick (not to minimize it- it was not cool). The bottom line is that if either guy came in and ripped off an 80 yard td in week 1 I would immediately be cool with them, at least as a football player.
-
Almost forgot. Yes of course.
-
My gut is that with respect to Peterson it's less of a case of him being a jerk and more of a case of he is really dumb and didn't know any better. Could be wrong. And also, the liberal media.
-
I don't even know if you are serious but this is the most contrived/ridiculous "don't believe the liberal media" allusion I have ever seen in my entire life. Then again this is coming from the guy who made the most ridiculous faux trade proposal I've ever seen in my entire life.
