RAMBO: Why we dont need to sign Searcy
metzelaars_lives replied to TallskiWallski83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I just reread my posts I realize that it's sometimes difficult to discern whether I'm being sarcastic or not. For the record I really do think that Wilson was excellent for a few years, as evidenced by me having bought his jersey. He was a baller in 2011. -

Agreed with you 100%. Without searcy we are anything but stacked at safety. Jonathan Meeks does not count as a real player. -

? Yeah George Wilson was really good for us. He was playing at an an all pro level in 2011 before he got hurt. -
Boston having a little fun with the Bills
metzelaars_lives replied to offyourocker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course it is. But it's just some dopey website; it's not like the Boston Globe put it out. And it's not like half the posts on this website aren't condescending posts about them. -

EJ isn't rising. Yes eventually Tom Brady will burn out but unfortunately his legacy is rather established at this point. And I hope it takes New England more than 20 years to find another hall of fame QB; most teams have never even had one. -

Is this your way of talking s*** to Boston sports fans? Talking about a game we almost won two years ago? Or intimating that Tom Brady uses steroids? I don't get it. -

Look I don't want to argue anymore about EJ Manuel. I really don't. I think I speak for all the EJ skeptics when I say that nothing would please me more than for him to emerge as the guy. After the Carolina game in 2013 I thought he was our guy and I was super psyched about it! But he has clearly regressed since then, which is not a good sign. Your homeboy, bills fan 4 life, likes to paint EJ skeptics as some sort of loony conspiracy theorists. All I'm saying is that my gut says it's not happening for him. Are you ready to go on record as saying you do think it's happening for him? My guess is that you'll say that you don't know yet and that the jury is still out. Fine. But what are you going to say when they bring in a veteran who clearly outplays him in camp and the preseason? Because that's exactly what's going to happen. Are you going to advocate for 52 other men to watch this guy bumble his way around while we satisfy your curiosity so we can finally put a nail in the coffin for good? I mean losman looked better in 2006 than Manuel has ever looked but once they thought they had someone better on the roster they played him and didn't worry about anyone's feelings. -

What are you even talking about? I just opened this gem of a thread and your posts have thus far exceeded even my lofty expectations in both the humor and predictability departments. I could literally write a senior thesis length paper explaining to you why this question is both preposterous and irrelevant. For starters how many games did troy aikman win in his rookie season? Bottom line, of course. Now, let's look at EJ Manuel's rookie season: played like garbage against Baltimore, they eek out a victory. Plays maybe his best game as a bill against Atlanta and Chandler and Stevie can't hold on to the ball and they lose. Do you see a moral of this story developing here? Wins are not necessarily the "bottom line." The fact that Manuel has had a more functional overall football team to work with the last two years factors into this equation. And also I think you keep forgetting that Thad Lewis won two games in 2013. The irony of your posts is that you are being more condescending about Mike glennon than you claim the EJ detractors to be about EJ. -
Brady Quinn wants to give it one more shot
metzelaars_lives replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What?? Based on what? EJ, in his second season, looked putrid throughout camp and the preseason, played, admittedly, serviceably in two games and then looked as bad as a QB can possibly look in the next two. What is consistent about this? The only reason people argue Geno Smith is worse is because he throws more interceptions, which is only because he actually has testicles. If my only objective was to escape a game without throwing interceptions, I could accomplish that. It would entail me devolving into a shell of a man, but I could do it. Now you could argue that Manuel devolved into a shell of a man because of Marrone, fine. But you cannot argue that EJ makes better decisions because he is afraid to throw the football to guys who aren't wide open. And agreed that neither is a bust yet. -

Not many things on planet earth I could care less about debating but what is your argument here? That by virtue of losing his job because he was so bad and thus being more of an unknown that Manuel is in fact better than a guy who did not lose his job but continued to suck? And please look at Smith's numbers from the finale last year at Miami and then before you tell me the game was meaningless, ask yourself, could you really picture Manuel putting up those type of numbers ever? Even in a meaningless game? Then consider the fact that his only weapon all season was a hobbled Eric Decker. And remember I never said that Smith is better. I just said that in no universe can you declare that Manuel is better. -

It's posts like this and my subsequent response that make me question the time I spend on this website. So here's the deal, you ready? The interception by JJ Watt was not an advisable pass. However it was a great play by Watt and a mistake that many a young qb could make. So let's take that play out of the equation. Other than that play against Houston he was f*?@ing brutal, do you understand this? For the umpteenth time, Robert Woods was targeted 12 times and ended up with 3 receptions for 17 yards. It was as bad as a qb can possibly look. And guess what? The previous week against San Diego he was even worse. I don't care what any numbers say, Geno Smith has looked better (granted, he has also looked just as bad) than EJ has ever looked. Let's call it a draw so far for the sake of argument. That being said, if you are an EJ believer you CANNOT make fun of Geno Smith. They have both sucked so far. "But, but, but EJ looked pretty good against Carolina last year.." Guess what- Geno Smith looked WAY better against Miami this year. Case closed. And for the shrewd football analyst who mentioned a poor game Joe Flacco had against Houston, do I really need to say that when EJ Manuel WINS A SUPER BOWL then he gets a pass for a bad outing? If I dressed and played a game at qb against Houston next year would you support me and say (as if you've just outsmarted everyone) "yeah sure he's a bust because he threw one bad pass... Joe Flacco had a bad game against Houston too, let's declare him a bust already..." And I'm not even calling him a bust because he should have went in the third round in which case he kind of looks like a qb who got drafted in the third round- a PROJECT. And none of the EJ supporters (who are really emerging from back out of the woodwork these days huh?) ever acknowledge the fact that aside from playing himself out of a job (no one disputed that Orton deserved a shot at the time) he sucked all camp and all preseason long! So no, buffalo joe or whatever, it was not the one pass that Watt picked off that has led me to believe that EJ is not going to be a franchise qb, it's the eye test- how he's looked ever since he got here. Last year against Chicago he looked serviceable- he made like three semi-downfield throws. If he can be that type of game manager consistently I think he could take us to the playoffs with our defense. But please, PLEASE send me a big fat "I told you so" PM if he ever wins us a game. -

As what some would call an "EJ hater," I laughed at this. And yes agreed, Brady Quinn is not a viable option. See you had me and then you lost me. Yes in his final two starts he was in fact "train wreck bad." And I would bet anything that as an EJ supporter, you find it amusing to make fun of Geno Smith, am I right? -
What happens with Marquise Goodwin?
metzelaars_lives replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You wouldn't have dressed Hogan? He emerged as a legitimate #3 WR last year. As someone else pointed out there's no way Goodwin is durable enough to take on that type of role. -

EJ vs Derek Carr - perception
metzelaars_lives replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes that guy singlehandedly won a game last year- against Buffalo. Our defense won us several. You do realize that even though they have that guy, our defense is way better than theirs top to bottom, right? -
EJ vs Derek Carr - perception

I wouldn't say Manuel looked "damn good" for a rookie. He looked good enough that had he shown signs of progressing in camp and the preseason that I was comfortable giving him a shot in year 2. Even after he looked horrendous in the preseason, I was still OK with him starting last year. I was also fully in favor of them benching him exactly when they did. Were you not? Fitzpatrick did not have an elite defense and two legitimate NFL receivers. He also put up way better numbers than Manuel throwing to Stevie Johnson (who rose to prominence as soon as Fitzpatrick took over and has since disappeared), Donald Jones and David Nelson. That's a 7th rounder, UDFA and UDFA. In that order. -
EJ vs Derek Carr - perception

He was better than Orton last year. All they needed was marginally better QB play than what Orton was able to give them, which I believe Fitzpatrick would have provided. -

So are you denying that Manuel looked horrendous during camp last year because Buscaglia, in addition to everyone else who watched a Bills practice, reported on it? So if Manuel is making great throws in practice and Buscaglia tells you about it on WGR, you won't believe that either? -
EJ vs Derek Carr - perception
metzelaars_lives replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills would have never drafted Manuel and let Fitzpatrick play out his contract they would have made the playoffs last year. But they would not have won the Super Bowl with him. Perhaps you see that type of upside in Manuel. I personally do not. -

OK. The EJ will prevail crowd has won this battle but I'll be back. I will talk to you again this summer when every day on WGR, Joe Buscaglia reports that EJ is having difficulty with his progressions, looks timid and inaccurate and is getting thoroughly outplayed by the mediocre retread they bring in that everyone complains about. I hope I'm wrong. -

Woods was definitely a better football player this year, he just didn't have people who could get him the football.
