Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor. Josh McCown, Johnny Manziel, Thad Lewis. You tell me.

All you can do is compare a QB to his respective era. I love/loved NFL in the 80's more than anyone and wax nostalgic about it so much that it annoys my friends but I don't believe that players back then were magically better and/or tougher. Was the game tougher? Yes it was. The players also did not take care of their bodies the way they do now. Alright you win. The Buffalo Bills are all tough guys who eat dirt for breakfast and play through broken collarbones and all the New England Patriots are little fairy princesses who only win because they cheat. And it's always been that way. We get it. And also dude, did you just suggest that doing coke the night before games would not affect your ability to be in shape? Have you ever done coke one night and then attempted to participate in an athletic event the next day?
-
Yes you are familiar with his workout regimen? I'm not saying that Tom Brady isn't a little prissy but that doesn't mean that if he played in an era that made it a little tougher on qbs that he would have been incapable of being an effective qb. This is a dumb argument because Tom Brady will never get to play in the 1980s. That being said, your constant whining about everything related to the patriots comes off as more than a little sour grapes. And lastly what is your point with those pictures? Do you have any idea how much better shape Tom Brady is in than a guy like jim kelly was? Jim kelly was known to do coke the night before games. Tom Brady literally won't even eat a bowl of ice cream.
-
Do you really believe that? Do you have any idea what Tom Brady's training regimen consists of?
-
Agreed also. And to further my point, if all of a sudden they made a rule that you're not allowed to get within 5 yards of Aaron Rodgers, that has nothing to do with how talented Aaron Rodgers is. Just because guys back then were supposedly "tougher," that doesn't make them better. Not to mention, football players today are in such better shape, work out so much harder, watch so much more film, etc. I'm inclined to think that a guy like Matthew Stafford would have been a hell of a QB in 1989.
-
I don't disagree with anything you said whatsoever. However that doesn't mean that if Aaron Rodgers played in Bernie Kosar's day, although his numbers wouldn't be quite as spectacular, that he still wouldn't be way better than Bernie Kosar.

No. Jeff Garcia was very good.
-
Negative. Gannon four pro bowls and two ap first team all pros between 99-02. Yeah I'll give you that. I think you could argue that those were Shaun Alexander's teams though. Are there two qbs in the history of the NFL more similar than Steve bono and elvis grbac? Think about it.
-
kitna is a great one, green put up some wild numbers for a time and Gannon absolutely not. The dude won an mvp. Elvis grbac was way more ok.
-
Yeah I'm gonna need an explanation on this one too. My guess is that you're going to say their job was harder, which correlates none to them being better.

Great thread. Some great ones so far (Alex Smith, brad Johnson) and some that are off- Matt hasselbeck was really good for a minute and tim hasselbeck was nothing. Beurlein and harbaugh were both well above average for a minute as well. I think orton goes down in the same exact ilk as deberg and Chris Chandler. I would say the best ones so far are Smith, Johnson, Kerry Collins and Jay fiedler. Jeff Blake was pretty ok for a while. So was Aaron Brooks. I guess Pennington was slightly better than ok right? Fitzpatrick is too erratic but levels off to ok. I think Phil simms is the all time captain ok. Let me think some more on this. Jake Plummer was pretty fantastically ok. If we can only get ok qb play this year we will make the playoffs.

Fitz to Jets - trade complete

I would certainly take that from EJ Manuel this season. I am pretty burned out on this debate but I would like to mention that Gilmore has consistently gotten rave reviews in camp every year since he's been drafted. The issue with Gilmore was that he had all the talent in the world, it just took him a little bit (not that long really- he was playing with one hand for half of 2013) to put it together in regular season games. If the reports from camp were that EJ Manuel has shown promising flashes but he was just missing in games then I think the "EJ detractors" would maybe be inclined to have a little more patience with him. Instead everyone waited patiently all last preseason to get one positive report about EJ from camp and after every practice it was the same thing: EJ was simply showing no signs of improvement whatsoever. I will be very anxious to hear how he looks when he shows up this year. -

At least the Bills aren't racist like Chip Kelly. -
Doug Whaley and Russ know about TBD

I hope EJ Manuel hasn't read my posts from the last month or so. Then again, maybe it would give him a little extra motivation to shock most of us and win the starting job from Cassel. Who downloads porn? It's 2015. -

Oh OK, I gotcha. That makes sense. I went and watched that video a few months back. It's funny how it got swept under the rug, it's still incredibly creepy. -

I'm not sure that the Bills are in any better shape than the Jets or the Dolphins at this point. I would give the Bills a slight edge over the Jets in terms of their respective defenses although they're both top ten- probably both top five- defenses. I would give the Jets a slight edge at QB now over the Bills. I think the Bills only clear cut position of dominance over the rest of the division is at running back. If we play to our strengths and really do ground and pound I think that gives us our best chance to win. I think the AFC East will be VASTLY improved and might even be the best division in football next year. -
Oh my god give me a freaking break. Didn't see this thread coming. They talked about the Bills for four hours straight and he mentions sneakers for literally 20 seconds and you couldn't wait to run to your keyboard. This is so played out. You've lived in Buffalo your whole life and assume that every sports radio host in the country talks about sports the whole time. They don't. The formula changed a long time ago to include anecdotal conversation. Everyone does it. What everyone does not do is bump their own thread two posts in.

Bills can win Superbowl with EJ

Say what?? -
I have stated it numerous times: I am OK with having differing opinions. You like EJ Manuel, others don't. So be it. But when this guy goes around mocking other QB's who have shown more in this league than Manuel ever has (or probably ever will for that matter), I'm just not cool with it. You adamantly defend a guy who did nothing but show up last year and suck so bad in camp and the preseason that he forced the coach and GM into a shouting match and then into making a desperation move in signing a QB who chews Skoal, has a beer gut and probably wasn't even working out, then loses his job to said guy and can't even get his job back when said guy sucks too. But you have the nerve to make fun of Matt Cassel? No. Sorry.
-
I see that you are up to your old tricks again. "Meh" Cassel? Listen I don't like him that much either but you have to admit he's shown more in this league that EJ Womanuel, right? I mean Cassel had a great 2010 in which he threw for 27 TD's, 7 INT's and took his team to the playoffs. What has Womanuel shown us? I think it will be a tough competition between Cassel and Womanuel if that's the way it shakes out but I still think I'd give Cassel the nod. We'll see.

There's your winner.

Can EJ be the starting QB for the Bills

Man we could've just traded Manuel for Foles seeing as though that's all the Eagles needed to get Bradford- what with Manuel being just as good as Bradford... -

The best poll would be- and I've said this in this thread- do you think EJ Manuel will be the Bills starter on opening day in 2017? I think it would be 85/15 no. -

Of course I understand this. If Cassel and Manuel both get injured drag racing Dareus then Jeff Tuel can start too.
