  1. Polian is now an announcer for ESPN, and no longer a GM. Anyway, He also graded Donald Brown as a B+..., and had Bethea ranked higher then Byrd. I can find more people who have posted their thoughts on the Chris Williams signing if you like, and almost all have negative comments about the player. I find it humorous that some fans quote PFF all the time, and yet demean them when it doesn't suit their argument. My entire point to this is that this team simply doesn't place a high value on O line players. Refute the fact that the team tried to replace Levitre with Colin Brown, Sam Young, and then the backup center in Doug Legursky. That all those players made the line far worse.
  2. w00t Mr Fumble just replaced Mt butt fumble Take a back seat Geno, and catch the next bus outta town Mark
  3. I did watch him some, and like the Bills own RG Kraig Urbik, he played well in some games. Like I said, he looked like Legursky, in that he could hold down the position to a degree. Want a comparison? Williams started all 16 games at left guard for the Rams last year, allowing five sacks, eight quarterback hits and 28 quarterback hurries. Doug Legursky and Colin Brown shared duty through the year, combining to allow three sacks, 11 quarterback hits and 31 hurries. The difference between an elite player and a "sometimes" solid player is when those big games on going on the elite players step up, and the "sometimes" solid players fall on their faces. Anyone else remember what that Bills O line looked like against the Saints, the Steelers, the Bucs, and the first game against the Jets, the last game against the Patriots? Sports Illustrated did a review of the Williams signing, "Grade: D. Williams has never lived up to his athletic potential, though that’s partially due to the sub-par coaching he received in Chicago. He gets pushed around too easily at any line position, and he’s not consistent when asked to stop pass-rushers at the point of attack. The Rams line was a mixed bag last season, and Williams was at least a bastion of consistency, but not much more. If the Bills are serious about competing in the AFC East sooner than later, they’ll need to develop Williams in ways other coaches have not been able to." http://nfl.si.com/2014/03/12/chris-williams-deal-buffalo-bills/ Now, judging by the way this coaching staff was able to coach up Colin Brown and Sam Young... http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/120269/bills-taking-odd-risk-in-signing-williams http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nfl/4722/chris-williams In 2010 Buddy Nix brought in- RT Cornell Green at 2 mill per, a player who was also cut after week six....sound familiar? This team has its own unique way of evaluating O line free agents.
  4. Same here, and I feel the same way. I was really hoping that this off season that Whaley would distance himself away from Buddy Nix's moronic views on O line players. Very disheartening to see the bills sign Williams as a starter. The Bills need better depth then Doug Legursky or Chris Williams. I would love for this team to draft Matthews at #9... I just don't see it.
  5. C'mon man, for ten years this team didn't draft an OT in the early rounds. 2002-2012. very peculiar considering the team traded away it all pro LT before the 2009 draft, and didn't bother to replace him for three years. I suppose since Peters was a FA turned all pro LT it was only right to try and replace him with a 7th round pick in Bell. Yea well, what did your eyes tell you about Colin Brown, Sam Young? Then with Legursky being a liability while at LG this year? You don't need to read PFF or Football outsiders to realize that Doug Legursky is an enormous downgrade from Eric Wood, or Andy Levitre. Judging from other blogs, and posts Chris Williams is about on par with Legursky. Rotoworld ranks Williams as the 21st OG, as does Yahoo sports. Other sites don't even list him, and some have him as the 60th best O linemen, 4 slots better then Sam Young. Underwhelming to say the least. This team just doesn't value O linemen the way other teams do from what I see.
  6. Great point! Another is, what if Eric Wood gets hurt! After all the guy did go on IR every year for his first four years, and remember the drop off when he got hurt in 2011, a 7 game slide into the toilet after a 5-2 start? Last year was the first in 5 seasons that he played in all 16 games. Considering that the bills ran up the middle 71% of the time last year, and I think his loss would be just as great as Glenn's. Hey, I'm all for building an O line with superior talent. I just don't see it happening with this regime.
  7. Jason La Canfora says the NFL is looking for two teams for LA, and a team for London, and one for Toronto. exactly
  8. Yikes! why are the Bills even looking at this kid? Stevie was hurt a lot last year, and he never did get in sync with EJ. I trust this year will be much better a year for SJ.
  9. Was he in charge making the picks for the Steelers? There is also some question as to if he made all the selections for the Buffalo Bills last year too. I'm going by the disdain I see this team has for high quality O linemen over the last 12 years, and recently. Let's not forget what players Whaley tried to replace the Bills best pass blocker (Andy Levitre) on that line when he left in free agency in Colin Brown, and Sam Young. That and the fact that after Nix had left the GM position and Whaley was promoted he then signed Doug Legursky to be the backup center. A player who graded as the very worst linemen on a bad Steelers O line. From PFF on Legursky over his years with the Steelers "Legursky has a ghastly -36.4 grade in part-time duty over the past three seasons." So, Whaley knew what he was getting when he signed him him.https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/08/01/32-teams-in-32-days-buffalo-bills-2/'>https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/08/01/32-teams-in-32-days-buffalo-bills-2/ Fast forward to this off season. and the bills signed OG Chris Williams from the Rams. Dud: He may be a former first-rounder but Chris Williams (-21.8) is just a liability as a lineman. Far too much pressure, not enough good run blocking, and he’s the team’s weak link on offense. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/08/01/32-teams-in-32-days-buffalo-bills-2/ From my view this franchise simply doesn't put a high value on their O linemen. Hence my reasoning as to why the Bills will not take an OT in the first round this years draft.
  10. The Bills haven't had a top TE in forever, and while Evans might be really good I doubt he would have the same impact as Ebron to the bills
  11. He took a pay cut because only Detroit showed any interest... The guy is a solid target at TE but has various flaws, as other NFL teams like their TE's to actually block well. The fact he is back with the Bills might mean that they won't target Ebron in the draft.
  12. The best predictor of future history is past history. I don't think any other NFL team can claim they haven't drafted an OT in first round the last 12 years, only Buffalo. Besides, this team loves them some DB's, and a lot of them from Ohio St. BPA, kinda like in 2010 when they took CJ Spiller?
  13. I don't get the fans fretting over the Bills drafting an OT, as it simply won't happen!! When was the last time they drafted an OT in the first round? I'll tell ya, 2002, and none in the first round since. The Bills have since drafted 2003, RB, 2004 WR. (QB 2nd first). 2005, no pick. 2006, DB, (DT 2nd first) 2007, RB. 2008, DB. 2009, DE (C 2nd first) 2010, RB. 2011 DT. 2012, DB. 2013 QB 3 RB's 3 DB's 1 DE 1 WR 1 DT 1 QB All this talk on an OT is a smoke screen, as I predict the Bills draft FS Haha Clinton- Dix with that #9 pick. If there was a RB ranked up in the top 10, then I'd think it might be a RB. So, stop worrying Bills fans. EDIT: They might even take RB Andre Williams in the third round
  14. EJ wouldn't be the first QB drafted this year IMO. Previous to the senior bowl EJ wasn't even ranked in the top 5 by NFL.com, and Mayock http://www.nfl.com/d...-2013-nfl-draft Let's not forget that before the senior bowl EJ was projected by just about every draft guide as a 3rd or 4th round "project QB". The sole reason EJ climbed up the draft boards was his lack luster play as MVP in the senior bowl, as he was better then the rest of a bad QB class. 7 of 10 for 76 yards, one TD passing. http://www.sbnation....mvp-draft-stock Then just before the draft EJ moved up to right behind Geno Smith http://www.nfl.com/n...qb-in-nfl-draft Mayock on EJ below, "You can mold him into something really special. He's raw, but he's that piece of clay where you take him and you can turn him to what you want." -- Mike Mayock This kids future is in the hands of Doug Marrone, and Nate Hackett, and in his first year they had him behind a really bad O line with some very bad players at the start. 108 hits-48 sacks is unacceptable. EJ's development depends on how well his line can protect him.
  15. Vick to the Jets would be a good move for the rest of the division, as he won't have the weapons or line he had in Philly. The Dolphins don't really even have a full O line yet, as afaik they only recently signed Brandon Albert. They still need another 3 players, RT-RG-LG. The Jests and Phins are the least of the bills worries, as they really only need to show that they can beat Bill Belicheat, and his Patriots. What is sad tho is that 3 of the 5 O linemen graded in the red against the Patriots in their last game, and that was without Vince Wilfork ! Now the Bills recently signed a OG who graded almost as bad as Colin Brown. But hey, he didn't miss a game last year.
  16. I'm hoping the Panthers sign him asap.
  17. It is old news, and some are nothing more then allegations. "At 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 1, about eight hours after Michigan lost to Ohio State, two Buckeyes fans reported that they were assaulted in Ann Arbor. No one was arrested at the time, but three weeks later police confirmed that they were investigating whether Lewan had a role in the incident. Lewan denied that he assaulted anyone." http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/20/taylor-lewan-faces-misdemeanor-assault-charges/ All the draft analysts have known about this from the start and it likely won't change a thing concerning his draft status. Bills fans thinking the Bills will draft an OT are waaayyyy off base. Smoke screen for the DB they want to draft to replace Byrd. S Haha Clinton-Dix. The only free safety ranked in the top 20 picks. So relax.
  18. Naa, that was nevergiveup. I'm not sold on Johnny Football as an NFL QB. I'm not going to give it any thought either as he will be long gone by the #9 pick.
  19. Both Tuel and Lewis were not winners in college, and in fact both lost quite a few games. I'd rather see the Bills develop a Mettenberger, Murry, McCarron.
  20. I'd rather have Tuel... The Bills might be wise to draft another QB at some point in this years draft, as I don't envision any of the current backups ever becoming viable winners
  21. At some point in time ownership will change hands, and hopefully the new owner / 's build a state of the art stadium in or around Buffalo for Bills fans Presuming of course that they also build a winning team first.
  22. How did those QB's manage to become pro bowl players?....were they developed behind bad lines, and on bad teams? Teams that had one good WR, a somewhat decent TE, poor coaching, bad schemes, predictable play calling? The point was, all those teams have been in the playoffs since 2010, and drafted OT's early in the first round, and even OG & C's in the first round. However, the Bills don't like to draft O linemen in the first round, as good players can be found in other teams dumpsters. aka, Legursky, Williams, Pears, Urbik, Brown, Young..and the list is almost endless over the last 14 years. Probably a big reason as to why no QB has found success in Buffalo over that time. BTW, The Bills drafted one player in the first round in 09 who wasn't even an OT, how did that work out? The guy must be pretty good because last year they ran behind him 71% of the time.
  23. I highly doubt the team drafts a RT at #9 even tho both Matthews, and Lewan could be there. So no worries. I see the bills doing what the bills do best, and that's drafting DB's. Ha ha Clinton Dix would be their man. My take is "IF" the Bills should ever build that line properly, and they could actually protect the QB long enough to allow him to develop. Long enough to allow him to make those 3-5 second throws, long enough to properly utilize Goodwin and Graham on deep throws. Bills stuff would be flying off the shelves once the team makes the playoffs.
  24. Anyone know what happens with to a team with only one decent WR? anyone, anyone? They usually double cover him, roll coverage's his way and the better defenses can usually shut down that one good receiver. The Bills had a fleet of absolute crappy receivers under Gailey (that Marrone jettisoned), and yet Stevie still got open. The Jets had the very best cover CB in the NFL (a freaking 16 million dollar CB!) Yet Johnson beat him like a drum, and is about the only WR in the NFL that could. The Falcons had WR Roddy White, and Tony Gonzalaz and then still traded away 5 draft picks to land Julio Jones. 2 firsts, a 2nd, and 2 fourths. The Lions are looking for a compliment to Megatron to take some heat away from him. I seriously don't get the hate for a guy who loves playing in Buffalo, for a guy who is tough as nails, and plays injured all the time. Mostly because he can't stand not being on the field contributing. Knowing that he is the Bills best option at WR. So the man had an injury plagued down year last year, big deal. Up until last year the guy hadn't missed a game since 2009.
  25. I hope they sign him, so he can make the butt fumble look like a normal occurrence. Sanchez....Mr girly headband? ...
