Selling of Bills Could Happen Even Sooner
thewildrabbit replied to LOVEMESOMEBILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. Brandon has had a major role within the Org for eight years, and after Marv retired the team having no GM it is easy for me to speculate on who else was guiding the team along with the owner. My sole reasoning for this is because the same stupidity that has enveloped this team for a lot of that time is still prevalent. I could care less if Brandon is retained as CEO, as long as the team hires a true "football" man as president for the football side of the operations. Like Green Bay has ex NFL safety Mark Murphy as president / CEO the last seven years, and they won a SB under him. Like Baltimore has ex NFL TE Ozzie Newsome as VP / GM, and has won several SB's under him. Like the Colts had Bill Polian as GM / president, and won a SB with him. I would like to see a knowledgeable football guy in charge of the football side of the team rather then a marketing / baseball guy is all. -
Good article why Bills should NOT trade up this year
thewildrabbit replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sadly, this could be exactly what the current front office has in mind to make a last grasp at getting to a winning season. If this trade up entails a WR, DE, LBer then i can envision finally being done with these losers. The new staff / FO will thank them for the supposed elite player, and hopefully proceed to build a winning team after they are gone. -
Selling of Bills Could Happen Even Sooner
thewildrabbit replied to LOVEMESOMEBILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The way this team has had so many lost seasons for so many years I'm hoping that the entire front office gets the boot. Brandon became director of non football operations when Marv Levy was hired, and more then likely took over the football operations side when Marv retired. I'd rather the new owners rid themselves of this losing culture, and start anew with "football" people in the top job. Rather then a marketing guy with a baseball background..which is probably a big reason why the team has been at the bottom of the division for so many years. Yea, to me winning before profits. So we fans need a billionaire owner that wants to win as badly as we all want to win. -
Exactly, Its good to read someone else is thinking the same way. The only difference is I'd want an OG in the 2nd or 3rd, as a starter or good depth. I look at depth for that O line as a huge concern. Do other areas of the team have players right off the waiver wire as backups? A 100 million dollar DE, and OG's from K-mart.

My issue with trading up
thewildrabbit replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While the jury is out on EJ, it is also still out on Woods & Goodwin. Especially considering that is two WR's drafted in the 2nd & 3rd rounds just last year, AND they trade for WR Mike Williams this off season. Meanwhile all this talk of trading up is for who....? another WR in Sammy Watkins? How many WR's do teams dress on game day, five? Stevie Johnson, Mike Williams, Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin, TJ Graham. So why all the talk about moving up to draft Sammy Watkins unless some are not getting it done. Anyway, my point was while I think Whaley did a brilliant job in acquiring top defensive talent in free agency. He also stunk it up badly in replacing Levitre along with proper depth for that O line last year. Then this year he brought in another dumpster reclamation project in the worst player on the Rams O line last year to play LG. Which again, is not properly replacing the Bills best pass blocking linemen (Levitre) for a fleet of second year QB's. I have no idea why this franchise has been so against building a top O line for so long, and so far it looks like that trend will continue again this year. Just have the faith that with new ownership this culture of losing may finally wiped clean. So, it really doesn't matter what this regime does in its last year, as I highly doubt any of them will still be around for the 2015 season. -
Howard Milstein interested in the Bills
thewildrabbit replied to SF Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man that would be so great to keep the team in Buffalo, and build a new state of the art stadium in NF. Milstein gets my vote over the rest, JBJ can go himself -
A case to be made for Zack Martin
thewildrabbit replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm thinking the Bills could trade back a few spots, and land Martin who is my fav OT in this draft. Although I wonder if he will get past the NY Giants at #12. In a day where you only dress seven O linemen it pays to be versatile enough to play any position. On ESPN Bill Polian stated this kid could be an all pro OG or C, and could start at either tackle spot. Reminds me of what they all said about Cordy Glenn. I know I wouldn't be upset if he were the pick at #9 should all the other OT's, and blue chippers be gone. If teams wait until late in the first to draft a QB then realistically all the big names will be long gone. I'd rather see Martin at #9 then Ebron. -
Or the next regime will thank them for it. This GM has already made his mind up on what he wants to do, and if that is to move up to grab Watkins I'm fine with that. Although, I highly doubt that one rookie skill player will be enough to propel this team to the next level, and get them to the playoffs. The biggest blockade to doing anything in the division goes thru the Patriots. Three of the five players on that O line graded in the red against the Patriots in both games last season. The newest addition to the Bills line at LG graded as the worst player on his team last year. The history of this team the last ten years shows that every player taken past the second round doesn't stay with the team very long. So what the Bills do in the first two rounds are whats most important. If they choose to put all their hopes on one player....I hope he works out.
-
The thing is I'm not sold that he will make the impact you think he will, and giving up a 2nd round pick along with a proven starter or more draft picks is what I'd be unwilling to do. This regime could almost instantly solidify the entire offense in this one draft if done properly. With a trade back I see at least three immediate starters on offense with a no later then #15 first round pick, and two #2's, and if they keep SJ in the process that is four starters. We both know that anything drafted after the second round is a total gamble with this team. Will WR Mike Williams return to his 2012 form, and stay out of trouble? Will Chris Hairston return to his 2012 form? The best the guy has done is a 12 game season. Will Tony Moeaki return to his 2010 form? So many unanswered questions about several players, and to go all in on one player seems like a huge gamble to me. Whaley needs to protect his chosen QB, more then finding a new toy that may or may not work out.
-
I don't get why so many fans want to defend the stupid decisions this team makes that eventually costs them games. Let's not forget we are talking about a college player who still needs to prove he can get it done as a professional. Watkins only played three years, and I look at the kids 2012 season with some questions about a drug arrest, and a two game suspension. Which player will he be once he gets paid?

My issue with trading up
thewildrabbit replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is where we disagree. Although the moves for the defensive side have been almost near brilliant by the GM. By the same token some of the moves for the offensive side by the GM have been downright moronic. Starting the season with three rookie QB's cost them games. Not replacing Levitre properly cost them games, and they still haven't made the proper move at LG. keeping waiver wire rejects from other teams on that line cost them games. Coaching stupidity in letting someone as inexperienced as Jeff Tuel throw it up 39 times cost them a big game. Hiring the wrong coach at WR cost them quality play, and perhaps some games. While all the rest of the teams are looking to trade back and pick up extra picks in this talent loaded draft. Leave it to this regime to waste those picks on one player. This team is far from one player away from the playoffs IMO -
Prediction: Bills move up to #4 to take MACK
thewildrabbit replied to maddenboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could see a trade up for Mack starting with the #4 pick, and he is the ONLY player I think is worth trading up for. That said I'd rather see the bills trade back outta #9, and pick up another 2nd rounder. They could trade back and grab Zack Martin, and still pick up some very good talent with two #2's. OT's, TE's, OG's, LBers -
Would you trade two 1st round picks for Tony Romo?
thewildrabbit replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would you trade two 1st round picks for Tony Romo? Only two ways, no way and no how! The guy isn't that bad and has lacked a solid O line almost his entire career, and yet always finds ways to lose important games. -
The problem has never been with the talent or lack of, it is always the constant stupid mistakes the team makes every year. Last year was no exception with wrong decisions that were made starting in the off season, and went forward during the season. I could go back every year for fourteen years and point out the more then obvious mistakes that cost the team winnable games every year. Want last years ? Starting the season with three unproven rookie QB's, and there was a strong chance that an undrafted free agent QB would start the season in the opening game. Something that has never happened in the entire history of the league, and yet this coaching staff was contemplating that move. The team brings in Matt Leinart, Matt Flynn and then release them before they can show anything on the field. The Team clung to Jeff Tuel like he was gold, and in reality Tuel has never been a winner in college, and has a long history of losing many, many games. The team let their best pass blocker leave for Tennessee in free agency, and replaced him with two of the very worst players in the NFL at their respective positions. Both players were cut after week six, and replaced with the backup center who was also a player with a storied history of grading poorly. The Bills were incredibly lucky they had no further serious injury to the starters on that line because the only backups were directly off the waiver wire. That Kansas City game is a good example of the stupidity that ensues on bad teams. The Buffalo Bills were dominating that Chief team on defense and with the run game. They actually held them to only three field goals on offense all game long. It was the moronic play calling to put the game in Jeff Tuels hands on third and goal. Rather then just running it one more time and attempting a FG instead of allowing that un drafted rookie QB to throw up a lame duck pass. An intercepted pass that turned around the entire momentum of the game. Then once behind in the score the coaches forgot about how brilliantly they had run the ball all game, and proceeded to let that rookie QB throw 25 times in the second half to ultimately 39 times that game....how ridiculously stupid. We could argue these points over and over yet the results are proven on the scoreboard. When you look at all the talent on both sides of the ball it is painfully obvious to me that better coaching, and better personnel decisions would have yielded better results then last years 6-10 season. That is the singular problem with losing teams in that they always seem to find new and unique ways to lose every year. The same way winning teams find ways to pull out wins every season. Bills fans knew the defense was better then DC's George Edwards, Dave Wannstedt showed, and hiring Mike Pettine proved that fact. Bills fans know the current talent level on the team should equal a winning season. Stupid decisions, and mistakes will more then likely keep them from winning again this season. So far this off season this regime hasn't shown me anything different from the year previous. DE Jadeveon Clowney... 3 sacks really? 3 sacks in all of last year doesn't equate to #1 overall in my view. It is no wonder why the Texans are looking to trade back. OT Greg Robinson will likely struggle with pass blocking at the pro level his first year. WR Sammy Watkins nearly 60% of his receptions were from screen plays, 70% of his receptions are within 5 yards of the LoS. 2012 drug arrest, 2 game suspension. Not worth giving up that #2 this year or #1 next year for IMO LBer Khalil Mack might be the only player worthy of trading up to the #4 position to draft. But then I hate the idea of giving up that 2nd round pick or more for a single player in a draft loaded with this much talent. I'm not awaiting this regime to make the proper decisions that will propel them into a winning season. I'm thinking its going to take ownership change to change the losing culture.

Bills actively trying to TRADE UP.
thewildrabbit replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Naa man. My head won't explode simply because my expectations for this regime are set so low for this draft. The Bills restocked the defense with some decent talent and went the other way for the offense. same old, same old. Like they did with Chris Williams I know what it would take to get this team into a winning mode, and one talented WR isn't it. Especially a rookie WR who will be learning his job in the pros as he goes. CJ Spiller is an elite RB, and this team hasn't found a way to win with him. The Bills have elite talent on the defense, and can't find a way to make that work for them either. I like Doug Whaley, and hope he awakes from his "Buddy Nix oxygen deprived coma" long enough to make some intelligent choices next week. -
Saying 6-10 is not meaningless. Luck, or the bounce of the oblong spheroid has nothing to do with all the constant wrong decisions, and stupid mistakes made by the FO year after year. This team has been a few players away for 14 years, and can't get it done. They haven't even had but ONE winning season in all that time. One season out of fourteen, and that was 9-7 back in 2004. The closest this team has been to a winning season since 2004 was under Dick Jauron at 7-9 with JP Losman, Trent Edwards at QB...10 years ago. Year after year the stupidity never seems to end with no accountability until their respective three years are up. This past season the Bills had a relatively weak season schedule, and still went 6-10. Stupid mistakes, and wrong decisions were the reason. The team made obvious choices in the off season that so many fans here questioned, and most of them knew before the season started it wasn't going to go well. When you look at last years rushing stats, and really break down everything that happened every game, You come away with the understanding that the Bills simply could not control the line of scrimmage by passing or running. The Bills were almost last in every ball control percentage. The Bills ran the ball so well because they ran 70% of the time behind one solid lineman, and they have two very talented RB's. The Bills were ranked 29th in run blocking by PFF. First off, EJ or any of those young 2nd year QB's aren't going to be able to step it up if they have no pocket to step up into. That O line didn't drastically improve in the off season as the team added yet another scrub at LG, its SSDY . Sammy Watkins isn't going to make a damn bit of difference on a losing team with the QB's running for their lives. The Lions have Matthew Stafford at QB and Calvin Johnson and still find ways to lose games. The Texans have Andre Johnson. The Cowboys have Dez Bryant The Falcons have Matt Ryan at QB, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalaz and still went 4-12...etc, etc, etc.
-
How on gods green earth does a 6-10 team with a corps of 2nd year QB's, and a bad O line see themselves as playoff contenders? I literally had a good laugh when I read that remark. Have the Bills FO people been partying with Rob Ford recently? I see this team in desperate help for the line in terms of RT, LG, and some decent depth at several positions besides players directly off the waiver wire. "IF" they upgrade that O line then the QB's might just stand a chance in developing into decent QB's, and might be able to field a team with a winning record of maybe 8-8, 9-7. The only other alternative I see is moving up to draft Johnny Football, and then the team shouldn't need to expend many resources on the line.
-
Exactly, on both points. This would be like the Bills trading up for CJ Spiller back in 2010 IMO. Almost 60% of Watkins receptions came from screen passes, and 70% of his total catches within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. Just sayin. Watkins is compared to Percy Harvin, 1st round #22, Josh Gordon 2nd round supplemental draft. Trading two #1's, and more for a WR? This move by this team wouldn't surprise me at all, and in all probability will be the last draft by this regime.

Bills actively trying to TRADE UP.
thewildrabbit replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All this talk of trading up for a WR, DE, or a LB seems so lame to me. When was the last time one of those players made enough impact to take their team to a super bowl? A WR? when was the last time 7 year all pro Calvin Johnson or Andre Johnson was in the super bowl? Name a defensive end who made enough impact to take his team to the super bowl. The Bills have one of the best in super Mario, were #2 in sacks, and can't even get to a winning season. Like so many have already stated, that this team has more then one or two holes. If the team makes any moves at all, they should trade back to obtain more picks in one of the deepest (talent wise) drafts in recent history Trading away this years #2, and next years #1 seems outright moronic to me, unless its for a can't miss QB. Last time I looked there is no Andrew Luck, RG3 in this years draft. Johnny Football? The Bills need 2-3 players on that O line, and some solid depth in order for EJ to develop properly. That's like five players right there with at least two being drafted in the first three rounds. This draft will be Doug Whaley's legacy, and he will be remembered more for this draft then the previous as Buddy Nix was still the GM. If he screws this one up he probably won't get another chance any time soon IMO. -
Bucky Brooks rates Bills #2 RB tandem in league
thewildrabbit replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills coaches were mad at him for not hitting the imaginary holes, as he used to carry two defenders on him to get his yards in Buffalo. They said the same things about Travis Henry, Willis McGahee, and the latter is still playing. For fourteen years this team thinks they can obtain a RB or QB and then those players can make things work without a decent line in front of them, and one or two good players doesn't make for a decent line either. Fred Jackson would be a huge superstar on a different team like the Ravens, Patriots, Eagles. I feel bad for guys like him with that much talent to have to play in abstract obscurity while in Buffalo. -
While the current Buffalo Bills FO, and most of this board hates the idea of an OT at #9... the other NFL teams all want top quality OT's. So the OT's usually climb up the board every year. Martin probably won't make it past the Ginats at 12, and will go at the latest to the fins. I like the kid, and think he will do well in the NFL, as he can play any position on the line which is a huge positive in being so versatile.
-
All this talk of trading up for Clowney... Can anyone tell me who the two starting DE's, OLBers are for the Seattle Seahawks? Without looking it up of course, as I know I can't. I can name their QB, RB, and a few DB's. If anything I hope they trade back and pick up extra picks, as the Bills need more then one or two players.
-
I'm not a big fan of over paid DT's...
-
I really like what Whaley did with the defense in the draft and in free agency last year, and again in free agency this year...for the defense. While the jury is still out on EJ, I think eventually he could be very good. As much as I like what Whaley did for the defense, I absolutely abhor what he did with the O line last year, and this year so far. It remains to be seen what he does in the draft tho, and he could really turn things around with this years draft. If the Bills enter the season with the status quo, and start losing again. Then I hope new ownership sweeps the org clean from Brandon to the ball boys.
