  1. Almost every football analyst out there gave the Bills a bad grade for this years draft for one reason. They all think the Bills gave up to much for Watkins. To put it in perspective, last year the Dolphins moved down from #12 down to #3 with the Raiders, and only gave up a 2nd round pick. I can only think the sole reason that gave up next years #1 & #4 is because they didn't want to give up anything in this years draft. Now, Watkins had better show on the field that he was worthy of that trade. Is he that much better then WR Mike Evans, TE Eric Ebron, WR Odell Beckham Jr? The Bills could have stayed put and still drafted both those three mentioned, or traded back and gotten any one of a number of different positions along with an extra #2. Time will tell.
  2. I think 98% of this board doesn't recognize the difference between an elite OT, and a second, third rounder. I've heard many analysts state that if Lewan had declared in 2013 he would have been the first overall pick, as he graded better then Eric Fisher, Luke Joeckel, Lane Johnson. Lets face facts here, as the Bills went "all in" with some gambles in this years draft. Is Watkins going to be that much better then Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr? Because if not they really screwed themselves for next year. They could have stayed at #9, drafted OBJ, Lewan, OT Zach Martin, TE Eric Ebron, LB Anthony Barr. The #2 pick in Cyrus Kouandjio is a "manster'. half man, half monster. 6'7'' 322, and should block the sun on the right side of that O line. What remains to be seen is how effort he puts into his game, and if he steps up he could be a viable force at RT. At this point he has more promise then polish. Don't get me wrong here, as I think the team did get better in some areas. Just not so sure that jettisoning Stevie Johnson was the smartest move This! This Bills FO are gambling that EJ develops enough to get them to a winning season. He may or may not, as many QB's take 3-4 years to fully develop.
  3. I'd call that first Jets game the stinker of the year. The Bills gave up 8 sacks, and LG Colin Brown, and replacement guard Sam Young both showed how bad they really were. Urbik was hurt, and Snow came in and promptly gave up a sack. Then CB Justin Rodgers single handedly gave the game away as 70% of the Jets passes went his way. All three players were off the team after week six or so. Then like you pointed out that both the (3-6) Steelers, and (4-9) Bucs dominated the line of scrimmage, and dominated the Bills O line. That Bucs game with their lame duck HC, and rookie QB beat the bills 27-6 it was embarrassing to be a Bills fan. EJ threw 4 INT's, and was sacked 7 times. The Bills had 22 rushes for 67 yards. The game was over in the first half. The Steelers controlled the entire game, and only allowed the Bills a FG until late in the fourth quarter EJ threw a TD with 5 seconds left on the clock. Kinda scary how badly the Bills O line played against some teams with bad records. They didn't grade well against the Patriots either. Now that said, things should be much better this year with some solid additions to that O line
  4. Does it really matter? If this coaching staff can't get this team to at least a winning season, then I see the entire org being retooled by the new owner. The Bills basically traded away Stevie Johnson for Bryce Brown is one way to look at things, a starting WR for a now 3rd string backup RB. This whole thing could easily blow up in their face if Mike Williams sparks one up with Watkins. Josh Gordon, Justin Blackmon say hello. See, It doesn't matter what we fans say or think no matter how outrageous. What matters is a winning season, and possible playoffs. We will see come September.
  5. I see all three of the RB's getting a bunch of touches, as all three have different styles. Fred Jackson is elusive, and should be primarily the 3rd down back used like the Saints used Darren Sproles. Doing this will also help elongate his career. CJ should be the primary back, with Brown relieving him on occasion. Brown ran a 4.38 40 at 223 lbs so he is not slow. I'm sure Hackett will find a way to work all three backs into a rotation to keep them fresh.
  6. Takes a big man to admit when he is wrong, and that doesn't happen often enough. I salute you Bill, cheers AJ, McCarron with two BCS championships under his belt gets drafted in the 5th. Yet the Patriots draft Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round....So, who knows.
  7. I remember Chan abandoning the running game when they were down by 3 points. Calling pass plays on 3rd and short. Trying in vein to fake out defenses with his 5 wide spread sets with SJ as the only decent WR. Most of all I remember his two moronic choices for defensive coordinators who couldn't coach a pee wee team. The latter set franchise, and NFL records for being so bad. The first ever NFL team in the 100+ year history to ever allow a 300 yard passer, and 300 yards rushing in the same game. Be grateful that bum is gone. Chan did less with more! Jauron had the same basic players, and went 7-9. While Hackett was very predictable running 70% of the time up the middle, it was also his first year as an NFL offensive coordinator. Gailey had many years of NFL experience, as OC, and HC. He made the stupidest, most atrocious mistakes EVER!! Remember him defending Trent Edwards, naming him the starting QB, and then cutting him after two weeks into the season. That alone set the team back because no other QB got the reps needed to replace Edwards. Chan stated that Edwards, Fitz, Brian Brohm were all about equal...then they played in his system, and only one guy came close to making things work. The guy clung to Fitz like he was gold, and called plays like Fitz was Brady. Be grateful he is gone.
  8. as one scout put it...more red flags then a Russian parade
  9. Obviously... the Bills are so enamored with Jeff Tuel that they didn't want him to ever see the practice squad, and they traded for Thad Lewis. Clearly they must think that they have a solid QB situation. Now that they added some O line help we all need to wait and see how this year turns out. I'm not upset they didn't bring in another QB.
  10. The Bills aren't like the Falcons who were thinking that they only needed one other elite wide out to get to the SB. So, that is why they gave up 5 picks to move up for Julio Jones. Buffalo needed more then just one player, and hasn't seen a playoff game in 14 years. Big difference! The reasons I think the Bills were all in on Sammy Watkins is they felt the need for an elite WR, as last years receivers didn't get it done. The player with the most receptions was the TE Chandler at 65 or so. Plus, the Bills had Clowney / Watkins as their #1 & #2 players on their board. The Texans were being outlandish in their trade demands, and so the Bills made a better deal with the Browns. The Browns probably would have never given away the chance to draft Watkins had they known earlier that their best WR Josh Gordon would be suspended for all of 2014. Anyway, the current Bills FO appears to be 'all in" to win this year, and obviously they think Watkins can help them do just that. It remains to be seen if Sammy can step in and make the same impact in the NFL as he did in college.
  11. For those that don't read scouting reports "There are a lot of teams that could consider taking Richardson, especially in the second round. A number of teams picking in the top-20 selections of Round 2 need interior offensive line help and are likely to draft for defense or a quarterback in the first round." Great value pick IMO http://walterfootbal...crichardson.php Wanna know why he dropped to the 5th round, luck for the Bills, along with a not so good showing at the Senior bowl.
  12. love it, love it, love it Damn, starting to really think they might see the playoffs this year.
  13. W00T !! Oh yeah...
  14. Stevie reminded me of Steve Largent, as he was usually always open or found a way to get open. Loved the guy, and he and Fitz clicked together as he was his go to guy on almost every pass play. Which was a good thing because there really was no other decent WR on the roster but that 7th rounder. Remember all those 5 WR sets Gailey ran with only one decent WR, and it didn't fool anyone as the rest of the league knew it. Now the Bills can run, 3-4-5 WR sets, and actually have real multiple options to go to. I can only hope one of the other WR's steps up to be as good at getting open. Anyway, I can see why the Bills traded him. After getting that big contract he came in unprepared, and out of shape. He even stated publicly he didn't do any off season workouts.
  15. Has enough length and anchor strength to survive on the left side, though he will never be a dancing bear, and he projects more ideally as a bulldozing right tackle in a power scheme. -Nolan Nawrocki http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/profiles/cyrus-kouandjio?id=2543482
  16. Guy is a beast, and will start / play at RT. He hurt his knee, and was slow coming off that injury. He was the 4th ranked OT and could have been a high first if not for the injury. Just some food for thought, "Alabama coaches believe he can be better than former linemate D. J. Fluker (No. 11 overall in 2013, San Diego Chargers)." freakin wow! http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1893144/cyrus-kouandjio
  17. All I can say is this is a big plus in my book, as I was wondering if the FO thought they really needed any O line help. kudos to Brandon, Whaley
  18. Its Cyrus... CBS Sports.com has the pick long before the NFL network broadcasts it, dunno how or why
  19. Not sure, they trade back with the Rams 41st #2? Now they have the #44 Yolo sold me on Hyde, so i dunno as the two best OG's are now gone.Maybe Morgan Moses, Gabe Jackson
  20. Just to put it in perspective a little, last year the Dolphins traded from #12 to #3, and all they gave up was a #2 pick. I suspect the Bills didn't want to give up any picks in this years draft, and think they will be picking in the later rounds next year. Time will tell if this was a good or bad trade, and it all depends on how much impact Watkins has this season.
  21. Hey, Nix traded a first rounder who was a 1000k rusher in Lynch for poop... We all knew something had to give as they just traded for Mike Williams, and then draft Watkins. I sure hope Whaley knows what he is doing.
  22. Best of luck Stevie, hope ya get a ring with the Niners. The only receiver Revis Island couldn't cover, and he loved playing in Buffalo. Watkins better be the one!
  23. Time will tell on this one, its playoffs or bust
  24. If I'm a Browns fan i'd be pretty frikken excited at this time for the upcoming season. Mike Pettine knows who he wants for his defense, and got a big aggressive corner with that first pick. Then probably let his OC, Kyle Shanahan make the choice for Johnny Football. A QB who should be able to scramble, and make plays like RG3 did with the Skins. They have the luxury of letting Johnny sit and learn a bit behind Brian Hoyer With all pro's Joe Thomas at LT, Alex Mack at center, and the rest of the line consists of two 3rd rounders, and a second rounder. Then they have Josh Gordon at WR, Jordan Cameron at TE, and picked up RB Ben Tate in free agency.
  25. I heard a lot of people say that they thought Watkins was the best player in this years draft. We will see.
