  1. I happen to agree. To me coaching is everything. Look at the year the Patriots lost Brady for the year during the opening game. They still went 11-5 with a QB that hadn't started a football game since high school. That team beat the Buffalo Bills 2x with Jauron leading them. I think the Dolphins got much better with Brandon Albert at LT, and the first round pick at RT. Then Knowshon Moreno at RB. The Jets have a top 5 defense, and still have scrub Geno at QB. so... Patriots Dolphins Jets Bills Not much changes this year IMO, as I have little faith in the current coaching staff.
  2. I voted other. I see Bridgewater falling for a reason, and can any QB make it in Minnesota?
  3. what does this tell you about the Bills coaching staff? I can't wait for the new owner to take over this team.
  4. Its all about the wins! Lets hope the Bills have a winning season, and the guy might make it to a second year.
  5. just can't resist, can ya... There are times when I think the karma of this team is justified.
  6. Until this team climbs out of the bottom of the division we can always expect to read negative comments from every site. Even many Bills fans themselves have a tough time not constantly bashing the moves this team makes. Honestly, I could care less about what PFT or other sites say about the Bills when it has negative content. Just remember, winning cures everything. Hopefully new ownership will change this losing culture.
  7. Hey man, as long as he keeps the team in Buffalo, and out of jon bon jerkoffs hands I'm fine with it. Because he will more then likely sell the team to an owner who will permanently keep the team in Buffalo like he did with the Sabres. The Bills will continue with their moneyball philosophy tho
  8. I'm thinking 1987 Bills, as this QB / offense simply isn't proven yet. The Bills OC needs to prove he can set up an offense that can actually win games, and not just gain rushing yards. This team is still in flux with so many rookies, and second year players in key positions. Now that they traded away their best WR who was always open, and for all we know the best receiver may still be Scott Chandler. The Bills dumped Byrd for the same reason they dumped Stevie, and that is to make the team as profitable as possible for the new owner. JMO
  9. , and Jerry can take a flying fornication at a rolling doughnut. All we Buffalo fans can do is hope someone who wants to keep the team in Buffalo steps up with the highest bid. I can't imagine the Buffalo Bills keeping that name if they move to Toronto. JBJ stated his favorite NFL play ever was "wide right". ...the !
  10. Fixed... A few different decisions and its a completely different season. Perhaps even a playoff team, as the defense was top ten...almost good enough. Keeping EJ on his feet will make a huge difference, and the Bills drafted three O linemen. Maybe they will be good, and maybe not. Kouandjio should start at RT, and do a competent job. Its the fifth, and seventh rounders that are iffy. Having a solid line will mean that EJ will have the complete playbook at his disposal this season, and will be able to complete those five second developing deep passing plays. Trading away Stevie the Bills lost that every down, "go to" guy that was always open. All we can do is hope Woods or others can take up the slack. It should be interesting to see if Bryce Brown is equal to what they gave Johnson away for. A winning season would go a long way in helping keep this FO / coaching staff intact.
  11. This~ Luck is hungrier right now, as he didn't just win a SB. Although I love Wilson's ability to scramble, and make plays. I just think he could easily end up on IR or with serious injuries AKA, RG3. Providing of course that the newest drafted additions all end up playing major roles in upgrading that line. Otherwise it's Russell Wilson. I don't want a burnout has-been that can make the playoffs, and then die in, or near the SB, like Brady, Manning, Brees. I want a QB who will be there for the next decade and win games. BTW, EJ could be that guy if he develops properly this season.
  12. I totally agree, Chan did utilize Spiller in his time much much better then Hackett did last year. But then you need to realize that Chan also had Fitz slinging the ball all over so often like he was Tom Brady, and mostly ran Spiller out of shotgun when they weren't expecting the run. I also think Gailey had a better line briefly with Levitre, Glenn, and Wood... when he wasn't on IR. Spiller is not an every down, pound it up the middle type back, and he never will be. His skill set is more suited to get the ball in space, and not getting tackled in the backfield like he was so often last season. So, what does that tell you about Nate Hackett as an OC? It looks to me like he is a guy who wants players to fit his system rather then building a scheme around the talent of his players. Then you couple in the factors that the QB's were all rookies, and the OC / HC were both NFL rookies along with CJ battling a notoriously debilitating high ankle sprain, as it just wasn't a good year for the star RB. Now factor in Bryce Brown from the Eagles, and the fact the Bills tried to obtain Carlos Hyde it looks like the writing is on the wall for CJ the same way it was for Stevie. This season Spiller will be auditioning for his new team, JMO.
  13. Man, thrifty, cheap team is being way to kind in describing that owner, and the way he ran things. Wanna know the reason why John Elway was going to play baseball after being drafted #1 overall by the Colts. Elway had stated that his favorite QB while growing up was Bert Jones of the Baltimore Colts, and when Bert signed with the Colts part of his singing bonus he was given a house in Baltimore. When they eventually released Jones after nine years they took his house back, and told him he needed to read the fine print of the contract. Needless to say after Elway heard this there was no way he was going to play for Robert Irsay. Let's not forget that Irsay packed up and moved the team out of Baltimore because he couldn't come to an agreement with the city on a new stadium. I would be hard pressed to find a bigger prick in the history of the NFL as an owner. It wasn't just the move, as it was more of the way he treated his players while playing for him, and after they left the team. The thing with Jones was typical of how Irsay treated his players. The only man that comes close to being hated by a fan base as much as Robert Irsay was is former Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell, and only for moving the team. The difference is Modell loved his players and they loved him. Modell was forced to move the team or be forced to sell it.
  14. I'm fairly confidant that anything less then a winning record does doom the entire staff, front office to be replaced. So, minimally, anything less then 8-8 say sayonara to them all. The change could take place as early as Oct, and it has already been noted that the sale could be in July, and then need to wait until the owners meeting in Oct for final approval. This IS a playoff caliber roster with a top 10 defense, and with a noted quality DC. Now loaded with talent on the offensive side this team should at least have a winning season. If I'm Whaley or Marrone I'd take a long look at the plays, and play calling last season, and perhaps call Chan Gailey for some advice or even hire him as an offensive consultant. Because running up the middle 70% of the time is not only very predictable, its also very easily stopped when it matters most. " If the addition of Watkins helps turn E.J. into a successful NFL passer, the 2015 first-round pick will have been worth surrendering. If not, the entire front office could be replaced. My guess is Whaley's bold move will not work out, hence this low draft grade. -C" http://www.rotoworld...fc-draft-grades
  15. However, this year Bills O line could be one of the best they have had in a long time. That second round OT was graded as a late first rounder by many. That fifth round OT / OG was graded as a second round pick, and in a lot of top 100 rankings. At least EJ shouldn't be able to blame his line. So, we will see come September.
  16. Ya know, five draft picks is what the Falcons paid for Jones, and he is a pro bowl WR. But was he worth what they paid? The #26 pick in the first round, the #59th in the second round, the #124 in the 4th round. Then the next year they gave up Atlanta's first and fourth round selections. so, swapped #1's, a #1 the next year, a #2, and two fourth rounders. They moved down 20 spots for a #1, #2, 2 #4's. Now this year they could have drafted WR Mike Evans at #6, and instead took an OT. This was a 13-3 Atlanta team in 2010, and there were no free agent WR's?? Like Vincent Jackson, Brandon Marshall that were both free agents that year. They could have saved a bunch of picks just by grabbing the right free agent. This year the Bills could have broken the bank to sign DeSean Jackson away from the Eagles. just sayin...or, is this team still defined by how much money they can save on players. Bye Stevie. Shifting gears, I can remember back to the 2009 draft, and all the talk, discussions in this forum about needing a pass rusher. The biggest thing I heard was "you can't teach speed"! Clearly Dick Jauron fell in love with Aaron Maybin, and his speed, then drafted him with the #11 pick. Then two picks later the Redskins picked a real pass rusher in Brian Orakpo. Then two picks after that Brian Cushing was drafted by the Texans. Like I said, the media is so conditioned to see the Bills picks blow up in their faces, that you could call it a "conditioned response". You can't really fault anyone that isn't a Bills fan from finding fault with this trade. I just hope that all this love for Sammy Watkins isn't a blind kind of love, as I see that he had a drug problem back in 2012, and was suspended by the team, and missed games from it. With Watkins almost 60% of his catches were from screen plays, and another 13% he caught passes within the first five yards of the line of scrimmage. That is 70% of the passes he caught last year. There is little doubt that the kid flourished in that Clemson offensive scheme. Now, what happens when he gets jammed at the line, and doesn't even see the ball with the first five yards? He only averaged 10% at 5-10, 11-20, 20+ yards. Think about what its like for college players that are playing against other players that will never see the NFL unless they buy tickets like everyone else. Its a bunch of college boys playing against college boys. There is a world of difference between what a player does in college vs playing in NFL against professionals. Don't get me wrong here, as I like the kid a lot. His favorite NFL team was Bills since he was a little kid. I hope he makes the pro bowl this year. I just gotta wonder if the Bills wouldn't have been better off staying at #9, and drafting Odell Beckham Jr, Taylor Lewan or trading back picking up an extra #2. Time will tell. Now everyone can't wait for September. Including me.
  17. It does Kirby when you factor in the #1 & #4 picks in 2015 they gave up. Like I've stated before, the Dolphins traded up from 12 to 3 last year, and it only cost them one second rounder. Buddy Nix is probably spinning from that trade up because he loves his picks, and wants players to fall to him. I admit It was a gutsy move on Whaley's part to make that move up, as he is betting his future on EJ, and Sammy. Bills fans simply don't want to think about the bad that can happen. This time of year every Bills fan is eternally optimistic about the upcoming season, and frown on anyone that says otherwise. It just so happens that this year they have some actual reasons to be optimistic, as they have enough talent on both sides of the ball to have a winning season. IMO.
  18. Not as bad as Watkins. I went with Football outsiders for that one
  19. exactly! and Whaley is in his second year as a GM. Then considering the past 14 years of bad drafting the pundits think how can anyone be excited about this draft.
  20. The really good players that are already making enough money mostly want one thing...the ring! He knows he doesn't have 3-4 years while the latest experiment at QB tries to develop. A lot of players come in with high expectations, and the start to fade when you join a losing org...cough, cough.
  21. NFL analysts have been conditioned that every time the Buffalo Bills made a move the last 14 years they have seen it blown up in Bills fans face. This really was a huge gamble, and everyone that is cheering for it now...will be bitching like crazy on next years draft day should Watkins not take the league by storm this year. This trade wouldn't even be an issue if it were for a QB. But its not, its for a WR from Clemson. Remember the last #1 pick from Clemson, a #9? Chan Gailey announced Spiller would be the starting RB in 2010, and he came out and fell on his face. Couldn't block, couldn't run routes, couldn't find a hole, and was benched after four plays. A very lackluster first year. I'm hoping that the kid does great this year, leads the league in receptions, TD's and gets rookie of the year. Makes the pro bowl and saves everyone's job. But who really knows what will happen?
  22. No he wasn't. Mike Evans was right up there with him, and most teams are now looking for the taller player with the larger catch radius. It remains to be seen who will be this years elite players, as 50% of 1st round picks fail. No he didn't, as it was all mostly suppositions and allegations so far. Yes, he was arrested, but he has of yet to be convicted of anything! Sammy Watkins failed a drug test in 2012, and was suspended by the team for it. Much more serious problems could arise from this IMO. Josh Gordon, and his one year suspension, Justin Blackmon, and his one year suspension both say hello!
  23. Not if you watched Bennett play in college at Alabama, as I loved watching him along with Derrick Thomas. I was so very disappointed on draft day when Bennett was drafted by the division rival Colts #2 overall. Man that 86 Bama defense was awesome. I loved every bit of taking Bennett away from the Colts and sticking it to them. Trust me, Robert Irsay crapped his pants when he saw where Bennett ended up. Anyway, that trade occurred in Oct of 87 just before the trade deadline. I remember that 87 team as they had just drafted Shane Conlan, and had Talley on the outside, same side as Bruce Smith. They really didn't have an offsetting rusher from the other side at that time. Conlan started outside, and moved inside once Biscuit got there. Once they plugged in Bennett, and he settled in the defense got a whole lot better. I was at the Miami game Sun Nov 29th, 1987 and the Bills beat the Dolphins 27-0. The phins benched Marino that game after 3 INT's, and Miami didn't cross the 50 yard line all game until late in the 4th quarter after Don Strock took over. He drove them down to the Bills 20 where he promptly threw an INT in the endzone. What a great game, and you could easily see what an impact Bennett had on that team. In 1988 12-4, they were #3 in points allowed, and #4 in yards allowed. Think about where Buffalo was drafting after 87. http://www.nytimes.c...-for-bills.html Jeez, I'd be happy with a decent solid starter that doesn't get pushed into the backfield every other play.
