The all Tebow for the Bills thread
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, 10 pages on talking about a lame QB that no other team in the NFL will even consider as a backup QB....only Bills fans. While I agree that Tuel and Lewis look terribad right now. There will be some "real" viable backups released or moved to practice squads as teams cut down their rosters. Talking about bringing in Tim Tebow is like talking about bringing in Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young, or Josh Freeman. Heck, why not give Jeff George a call to see if he wants to play. Whats scary about Tebow is he is the opposite of Trent Edwards who could look brilliant in practice, and fall on his face once a real game started. Even his Florida college coaches would wonder how they were going to win games with a QB who can't complete a pass in practice. He was scary bad at practice in Denver, in fact so bad that they talked about moving him to receiver. So bad with the Jets that the Jets OC didn't ever want to see him on the field during a regular game, even for option plays. He was also so bad in New England that the guy who drafted him couldn't convince Belichick to keep him on the roster at any position. Tebowmania is finally dead, as it should be. The Bills don't need that circus right now. Let it go guys! -
This~  I refuse to gloat until Pegs has complete ownership, and even then I'll worry about his health. Being a Bills fan for as long as I have, I have learned that even an almost sure thing can go sideways! The Bills were an early 20 point favorites against the NY Giants, and everyone I knew gave them no chance to win because they starting QB Phil Simms was out injured. Yeah that's right, back up QB Jeff Hostetler beat the Bills in the SB....who? The Giants managed to beat the highest scoring team in the NFL by keeping the ball away by running with a washed up RB in OJ Anderson who managed to get the MVP. With our luck... Larry Page and his 32 billions will align himself with JBJ. Win the bid, and pay the 400 million in penalties to move the team to Toronto in a three years. Buffalo will never see another NFL team should that happen.

Hackett's Red Zone playcalling ineffective
thewildrabbit replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree! While I don't have much faith in Nate Hackett's very predictable play calling. I have even less faith in some of the current starters and backups on the line. I understand why Hackett played that first string line for the first half is because he wanted more production out of that unit. EJ needs all the experience he can get at this point, and it makes no sense to put the backups in to get the QB killed in preseason. More particularly because a lot of those backups aren't even close to playing up to even an NFL backup level. Lets face it, that aside from Henderson, who has been playing surprising well from the start. Richardson, Cujo look very bad at this point. Kouandjio looks more like the 7th round pick and Henderson is looking more like the 2nd round pick. Then Richardson is about on the level of what you would expect from a 5th rounder. Look at the history of this teams drafts and realize that very few players have become solid starters drafted later then the 2nd round. I know I'd rather see Hairston, Richardson in at OG then Legursky, Urbik. Hard to believe, but that #2 draft pick in Cujo looks like a complete bust at this point. I didn't think I would ever see anyone who could play worse then Colin Green... But then there are still two preseason games, and 20 days of camp to go. -
I agree, and perhaps never signed, and he was signed to be the backup center. He is going to replace Eric Wood....really? Along with not signing OG Chris Williams this year either. Williams graded in the red against the Giants and the Panthers which is something he did 7 times as a starter last year with St Louis. He is now is out with a back injury I have no idea why this team insists on scraping the barrel of other teams to fill a very important position on the line. If the guards are poop, then the run game is going to suffer in many situations. Most particularly on trap, and short yardage plays. We have already seen the lack of improvement by getting stonewalled at the end of the opening drive in Carolina, in the red zone. Against the Steelers on third and one the OC prefers to pass because he knows he probably can't get a first down running it. As huge as the current players are on the Bills line, they should be able to drive block any team three yards off the line. Plus, the line has a tendency to play significantly worse on the road, and even against bad teams. I'm very concerned about the current OG situation, and although I didn't think the Bills should have paid Levitre what he wanted. I still think they have yet to adequately replace him, and he wasn't even that great at run blocking. This one position may end up being the undoing of this entire regime.

I doubt its a statement as to how bad Dixon is, its more of the bromance that Marrone / Hackett have for Tuel & Lewis. Dixon is a known commodity and they realize he isn't taking them to the playoffs anytime soon on his own. But then neither are the other two, this coaching staff just doesn't realize it yet.

The all Tebow for the Bills thread

Lighten up Francis. The real reasons Josh Freeman is not currently signed have nothing to do with talent, as was the case with JaMarcus Russell. Nobody questions his talent. Although Freeman has ADHD, and takes prescriptions for it. Those real reasons include "constantly" late to team meetings, missed the team photo with the Bucs. He appeared to have a general disregard for coaching authority after the Buc's switched coaching staffs. Don't you think its a huge red flag when a team outright cuts a former first round pick at QB after only four regular season games? His completion % was 42.9 for those four games. That game he played for the Vikings he clearly didn't know the offense at all and his teammates attested to that fact after the game. Another huge red flag when the NY Giants sign him to be a backup QB for the 2014 season, and then cut him so quickly afterwards. April to May. I for one am darn glad that after the Buc's cut him last year the Bills then offered him a contract and he chose Minnesota over Buffalo. Clearly the kid has talent, and something went south with his mental issues. -
Yikes, that from the Bill Parcells school of coaching? What a slam from a coach. An immobile statue... with no arms!

Available QBs ... Slim pickings ?
thewildrabbit replied to biggerdaddynj's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've never been happy with Tuel as a backup, and now even Lewis looks bad. Ryan Nassib might get a reunion with Marrone, Hackett http://nfltraderumors.co/giants-qb-ryan-nassib-wr-mario-manningham-among-players-on-roster-bubble/ Although I'm not s sure that's a good thing. TJ Yates, Case Keenum from Houston. Christian Ponder Minnesota Terrelle Pryor Seattle I'm sure there will be some players available should Tuel & Lewis continue to stink it up. -
I don't envision Glenn moving inside to OG regardless of how much a quality player is needed there. The need at RT is bigger IMO. With Glenn at LT, and Henderson at RT the Bills would have two lock down stud tackles for years. I could see Hairston moving into RG or LG, and Richardson also nabbing one of those spots. Glenn, Richardson, Wood, Hairston, Henderson...Voice from a Adam Sandler movie. damn, that's a huge....

The all Tebow for the Bills thread
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jeez, everyone back away from the cliff...and I might suggest a cold shower to rid yourself of those Teboners. The next two preseason games are in Buffalo where the entire team should look better. Tampa Bay & Detroit. Josh Freeman might make more sense then Tebow at this point. But then the Bucs cut the guy for a reason, and so did Minnesota after one horrific game last year. The NY Giants picked him up in April of this year, and signed him to a one year contract after Eli had ankle surgery, only to cut him a month later. That leaves the Giants with Curtis Painter, Ryan Nassib as Eli's backups. "Josh Freeman's last start in 2013 was against the Giants, a game in which he completed only 20 of 53 passes (37.7 percent), the second-worst single game completion percentage with at least 50 attempts since 2001." http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/10790136/josh-freeman-new-york-giants-agree-deal There are real reasons as to why these QB's are looking for a new team. Kinda surprised nobody has brought up JaMarcus... -
Kelly has spoken to JBJ about joining forces
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My first thought also On another note, if true, those demands by Kelly are seriously ridiculous, "Two sources familiar with the sales process told The News the Kellys have made lofty partnership demands: 2 percent equity in the team, lifetime jobs for Jim and Dan, an up-front cash payment for their services and final say on all football decisions." http://bills.buffalonews.com/2014/08/16/jim-kelly-jon-bon-jovi-discussed-joining-forces-buy-bills/ -
He is not a bust just yet, and I highly doubt the team cuts a 2nd round pick after 3 preseason games. At Alabama, the coaching staff had him pulling, and leading on some run plays at LT. So the RT position is new to him. Think that doesn't matter? Then look at Kraig Urbik and how he looks so god awful at LG as opposed to the RG position he has manned the last few years for the Bills. That Bama coaching staff also stated that they think that Cujo could eventually develop into a better player then DJ Fluker, minus the nastiness . It could be that the guy is upset that he is playing RT. Then again the kid played much better in 2012 then he did in 2013, so perhaps he is still recovering from lingering injuries he suffered last year, who knows. Some players simply may need more time then others to adapt to the NFL, and a new position. Its way to early to give up on him at this point, and like others have pointed out, as a last resort he could play OG.
-
Good read Yolo, thanks for posting. What they don't mention is how poorly Urbik is playing recently at LG in replacing Williams, who has been sidelined by an injury. Both OG positions are a big concern for me, as I have little faith in either Urbik or Williams. Also what they don't mention is how well LT Glenn's replacement in Henderson has been playing, and the Bills could have two solid stud lock down tackles for years to come. Still, 23 days, and three preseason games to go. So, there is time to see improvement or bring in another player

Brandon did exactly what the owner Ralph Wilson directed him to do, and he did it superbly! Lets not forget that the edict was set down by the owner to keep the team as profitable as possible while still trying to win games. Why keep the team as profitable as possible you ask? To make the team more enticing for any new owner, or owners. The Toronto deal by Brandon was brilliant, which made more money for the team and sought to bring in more fans to the franchise. Speaking of Brilliant, Brandon must be darn close to that to keep the team so profitable in such a small market area, and in such a down turned economy. Which has been almost the entire time Brandon has been with the team. Now that Mr Wilson has passed, and new ownership is about to take control, I'd say that edict to make as much money as possible has changed somewhat to emphasize winning more games. I think Brandon was stuck with his less expensive choices at coaches, certain players, and decided that things should indeed change. A better coaching staff, with an actual NFL experienced new QB coach, a new senior offensive assistant coach, special team assistant coaches to help with special teams, a new D line coach to help with the run game. Then the biggest addition was to hire an ex NFL head coach to run the defense, and a past proven commodity at producing a top unit. I would think that 2013 staff reflected the late owners frugal ideas of minimizing expenses. Whereas this new 2014 staff has been bolstered in almost every aspect while retaining the status quo to ensure some continuity. Then change was also needed on the offensive side of the ball, and again with an emphasis on winning. My take is Brandon let it be known to the GM that the team needs to win, and win now. Then do what it takes to ensure that outcome as best as possible. Whaley then targeted the best offensive player in the 2014 draft he thought would help the team win, and went after him. Then bolstered the O line with an OG free agent, and drafted three more players for that line. Traded away a WR, and brought in what is thought to be an upgrade, traded for extra RB help. Thus giving the QB the best chance to win more games. Better coaching, better protection, better receivers. Now, what remains to be seen is once the new owner /s take control and once the fear that the team will move away is no longer in the back of every Bills fans mind. That is should every Bills fan dream owner in Terry Pegula finally take control. Will the fans still support a loser? I know they didn't in the 70's, and again in the 80's in which Mr Wilson was distinctly concerned that he might need to move his team after all on several occasions. That thought of "what is the plan" by Brandon should the team continue to lose may be all be for naught, as Russ just might have the wherewithal to recommend the hiring of a top head coach should the team fall on its face in 2014. After all, the team just hired an ex NFL head coach to run the defense. Russ Brandon was brilliant at his job as a marketing / money man, no question about it at all IMHO. Pegula or any new owner would be foolish to make changes to the GM, CEO right away regardless if the team loses. Although, the team still does need upper management NFL leadership in terms of an experienced football man as president to run the football side of things. A true NFL football man who knows talent, an Ozzie Newsome, Ted Thompson type. .

With three preseason games to go, and lots of reps in camp to go. For me Its still kind of early to see who will be starting this year. Urbik getting schooled at LG by the Steelers D line during the scrimmages isn't helping him at all. Its the guard situation that concerns me. You can never have enough good O tackles so I kinda doubt the Bills release Hairston.

When the Bills moved up to draft EJ I was very skeptical, and didn't like the move at all at that time. Even tho Mike Mayock had moved EJ to his #2 QB at that point. My thinking was, it was just a horrible year to draft any QB. Then from a scouting type standpoint I can see why the Bills FO, staff fell in love with the guy. EJ actually cried when he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills, and in a good way as he wanted to be drafted by this team. A family guy, squeaky clean in a time when so many others are acting like immature dorks. Hard worker, and has every physical attribute that you could want in a pro NFL QB. Plus, Bruce Smith is his godfather. EJ's drawbacks are a bit of a fragile psyche in terms of media scrutiny, and lack of experience in running a pro style complex NFL offense. Didn't call audibles, didn't work thru many progressive reads, didn't make a lot of pre snap reads. Plus, he is far from fully polished in his footwork, and mechanics. EJ comes across as lesser Cam Newton type, without all the bad baggage Newton had. Still, I wasn't impressed with the kid until I watched him with the Bills run a 2 min drill in preseason, and then the regular season. EJ has shown flashes of brilliance at times, and even when under great duress. Like that second Jets game when the run game went into the ceramic convenience ...again. I now have full on man crush for EJ now, and realize it isn't him I'm fully concerned with anymore. I fully share Whaley's opinion that EJ is good enough. My greater concerns became the coaching, O line, and receiving corps. Whaley corrected some of those issues this off season. (Sorry to go off course talking about EJ so much.) There is still the issue of the coaching staff, and will Hackett continue to run a hurry up, and punt offense like he did last year? Or will he build an offensive run game that can do something other then up the middle 70% of the time, and actually move the chains on its own? Watching the Bills drive right down the field, and then the run game get stone walled in the red zone against Carolina was a rehash of watching the same stuff from last year. Four run plays inside the Panthers 11 yard line, and no score. When I watch other teams run perfect OG trap plays in that situation leaves me to think Hackett, and this O line isn't going to get it done this year. Then I read from camp reports that the offense is getting schooled by the Bills D line, it leaves me even more skeptical. I realize we still have three weeks of preseason games to go, and Glenn has yet to make a start. Still, I'm not very optimistic about the guard situation, or the protection schemes.

5% return ... no wonder the number of bidders is small
thewildrabbit replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally I think its more the team, location and the fact that the franchise has been a loser for so long that is keeping the really high rollers away. Pegs has said if he wanted to make more money he would simply drill another gas well. I look and see a great opportunity for a billionaire to make even more money by buying the Buffalo Bills, and I would use Jerry Jones as my role model. Paid 150 million in 1989, and now the team is worth 2.5 billion. I think Bills fans are just as passionate for their football team as Dallas fans are, and perhaps even more so to support a loser for so long. Build a new state of the art 90k seat domed stadium with all the bells, and whistles. Then put a winning team on the field, and the fans & corporations will fill the suites, luxury boxes, and expensive seats. Sell the naming rights to the stadium. Team merchandise, concessions, parking. Then open the stadium up for other events. http://www.forbes.com/profile/jerry-jones/ I think Pegula will have a gold mine on his hand in the next few years. JMHO -
"IF" the wheels do fall off again this year I can see everyone but Whaley & Brandon getting the boot. I'm still not very enamored with this coaching staff, and all the mistakes they made last year. Should EJ fail, will that all be on him or them? Jeff Tuel really? As much as I want to see Marrone win games and keep his job. I just don't see the Buffalo Bills contending for even an AFC championship with him and Hackett at the controls. On another note I would love to see the 49ers give up on Harbough and see the Bills hire the guy.
-
Guy i think Marrone might be stating that Henderson can play LT because he may need to start him in the opener in 23 days. Glenn hasn't even been cleared for team drills yet, and won't be in uniform Saturday. "Cordy Glenn: The 345-pound left tackle has yet to be cleared for team drills" http://espn.go.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/12125/monitoring-bills-health-against-steelers On the same note I kinda doubt that the team will move Henderson to RT, as he hasn't seem any reps at that position so far.

Manuel improving as of 8/15
thewildrabbit replied to bonechiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just wait! Someone will start up with the EJ sucks and always will crud. It was refreshing to read even ESPN's Mike Rodak having something decent to say about EJ. "but Manuel's 77-percent rate Thursday is deserving of praise." http://espn.go.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/12109/bills-camp-report-day-26 -
I would have no problem with RB staying as CEO, as long as the team hired an NFL experienced team president to run the football side of operations. Let Brandon continue to be the top guy and handle the money side. Then hire a top notch football guy on the other side. The Bills need a Ravens type Ozzie Newsome pres, or a Green Bay Ted Thompson. Heck, look what new president John Elway did to change the teams fortunes so quickly.
-
+1 You guys gotta know how much of a bromance this coaching staff has going on with Tuel & Thad to keep both active, and jettison Matt Flynn last year. No way they change the current three QB's, unless there is an injury. Then Dixon is there. Besides, would the Bills trade their 2015 #2 for Hoyer? For guy whom the Browns will probably start this season with at QB, and even if he doesn't start, he is really the only "tuned in" backup at this point. This whole idea just makes no sense to me on any level.
-
I think he would definitely plan to eventually move the team to Toronto should he win the bid. His thoughts are probably that should someone else get the team, and turn them into a winner. Then there will be less desire all around to have another NFL Team so close. So, there goes his group with MLSE. "Educated source once involved in Bills sales process says team is "Pegula's to lose" and Bon Jovi group is "unfocused and disorganized." https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/terry-pegula-favorite-to-buy-buffalo-bills--bon-jovi-group-looks-disorganized-123809993.html I'm just glad he is showing how inept he is in the process of buying an NFL team.

Sunday Ticket - Share Your Strategy Time...
thewildrabbit replied to Griz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After reading thru some of the posts after my initial post in this thread, and reading about some of the great deals to be had by some of you. I decided to call DTV back, and told them I'd rather wait until my contract is up at the end of August to redo my Sunday ticket. Called Thursday, and told them I'm canceling my service and going to Time Warner cable. So, upon hearing that they passed me to retention. After some discussion, this year Sunday ticket max free, new genie box & installed free, 20.00 off the bill for 24 months, and Showtime for the next four months free. Couldn't be happier! Thanks guys for helping me rethink my situation. Now mind you, they probably plan on raping me next August when the 2015 Sunday ticket is due. This year I'll enjoy the freebies and worry about next year, next year.
