Phillip Rivers "BENCHED" Drew Brees
thewildrabbit replied to BBills14's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marty S benched Brees because he threw to many INT's. Brees went on to say later that it was the best thing that could have happened as it made him become more careful with the ball. Who really knows if this benching will help. i'm kinda glad EJ isn't gonna face that Detroit front four / #1 defense. Hope Orton doesn't get killed. On a positive note the Jets are thinking of benching geno -
Bills Bench the Wrong Guy

I'll tell you guys what. I watched the Arkansas Razorbacks play Texas A&M and all I could do was think that either of those two OC's would be better then Hackett. Boston College beat the crap out of USC by mostly running. I thought that's why they drafted the guy to run a read option version, and instead are trying make a pocket passer out of a guy who clearly needs a ton of development to be a pocket passer. Sam Bradford huh, and he will stay healthy, and will get better protection in Buffalo? -

ohh Yea, I thought he meant EJ too. Phew, as I was thinking wow this Org is screwed up to cut a guy after only 14 games. Like I said, take a long hard look at what the Cowboys did this off season in beefing up their O line, and now how well they are running the ball against a stacked box. My fav player was Zack Martin, who the Cowboys took with the 16th pick, and he is playing RG. When they want to power run it they bring in three tight ends....of course their TE's can actually block, and catch. Ohhhh, a 1st round pick on an OG, what a waste huh. -

They gonna trade another #1 for him Kirby? Perhaps trade EJ for a 4th to somebody also? Man 0 man, October can't get here quick enough, as I'm hoping Pegs crap cans this entire regime of losers. Take a long hard look at the Cowboys this year, as they are pounding the rock with great success. and yea, even against a stacked box. Romo looks a lot better with that pound it down the throat run game, and so would EJ. -

I can see why this coaching staff made Orton the starter for this game. Its like a lamb to slaughter when you see that Detroit has the best front four in the NFL, and are currently ranked the #1 defense in the league. Or, losing to Ryan Fitspasspick was such a slap in the face to the FO that they just couldn't help themselves. You are right tho, this team won't win until they find a way to pound the rock properly. -
Lucky Orton, as he gets to face the #1 ranked defense and arguably the best front four in the NFL.

EJ was known to have problems going back to college when the opposing defense knew he was going to throw. Florida St was ranked as the 5th best run, and 20 something passing team. EJ has proven when you run the ball decently he has a chance to play well. When forced to shoulder the game he doesn't stand a chance, and Hackett came out throwing 44 passes vs 22 rushes. The hot hand at RB in Fredex only got 7 carries. EJ sucked! Now, how do these brainiacs fix this?

A lot of fans have been saying this the last two years. What does it say about an OC who can't manage to build a proper run game with two of the very best RB's in the NFL. Yea, sure the Bills are currently 2-2 aaaannnnndddd on their way to play the #1 defense in Detroit. Last time I looked OG Richie Incognito is still looking for a team, and Marty Schottheimer is sitting at home retired. Incognito could help either side, and Marty S would make a great adviser on how to building a proper run game

Not to worry, at this point Whaley will be fired just for the extra draft picks #1 & #4 in 2015 for Sammy Watkins. While it might not be that big a deal ATM, just wait until the end of the season when the Bills are giving up that vaunted #1 pick to the Browns, and still might not have a franchise QB. This board is going to explode, as will the entire fan base. Kelvin Benjamin taken by the Panthers with the 28th pick in the first round is currently ranked as the #9 receiver in the NFL. Even Brandin Cooks taken with the #20th pick by New Orleans, and currently ranked as the 44th best receiver ranks better. For that matter so does Mike Evans, Tampa Bays pick at #7 ranks better at #43. Then you have the ongoing debacle at both OG positions, and after two years the team still hasn't replaced LG Andy Levitre properly. Going back to Florida State and EJ in college. "With a new quarterback in E.J. Manuel, the script flipped, and Fisher's playcalling and gameplanning was comparatively better than it had been, but his quarterback played considerably worse when the defense knew the offense was going to pass. Manuel's completion percentage on first down (71%) and second down (74%) compared to third down (57%) would seem to support this a bit, but instinctively, one would figure that a lower completion percentage would occur on third down, since the needed yardage is more." "Given the above, and that Florida State's running game was much better than its passing game, (5th best rushing game, against the 21st best passing game, by one measure), I don't think Florida State will miss Manuel as much as any team in recent history has missed the top quarterback drafted (Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford, Matt Ryan, etc.)." http://www.tomahawknation.com/florida-state-football-fsu-noles/2013/8/30/4674876/florida-state-football-preview-2013-offense If I'm Doug Whaley I tell Doug Marrone to run the ball 44 times, and EJ had better not be throwing more then 20 times. Plus, I'd tell Marrone / Hackett they had better find new, innovate ways to run the ball, or find new jobs!

While I would choose a "brand new" Edwards who was very accurate with his down field passes, and was more NFL ready when drafted. I sure wouldn't take the brain scrambled mess that he is now after so many concussions from playing on Jaron the morons teams. Edwards was more the victim of the crappy scheme, crappy line, crappy offense that jauron ran more then anything else. The kid played in a west coast offense in college, and Skeletor ran a version of the Mike Martz get your QB killed offense that wanted him to take 3-5 step drop backs when he never had anywhere near that much time to throw. Of course he was always going to check it down because the pass plays took far to long to develop, and his receiver corps mostly stunk. The Bills coaches ruined Edwards, and while this coaching staff hasn't ruined EJ just yet... Its only a matter of time. What kind of mental midgets come in with a game plan to have the 2nd year QB throw 44 times, against the #27 ranked run defense?
-
Well, forgive me, and let me rephrase that. I should have asked how much is the playbook limited by the RB's? 44 passes for EJ vs 23 rushes, and the RB (FJ) with the hot hand only saw 7 run touches. Hackett can't seem to find ways to get Spiller & Freddy more involved when he had to know that by passing so much he was running face first into the teeth of that Houston defense. EJ isn't going to learn with Orton playing, and EJ needs to play. Yea, EJ could be limiting the play calls and scheme, but then why have the guy throw 44 times? Why not run more? IMO The Bills game plans are bad, schemes are bad. The WR's don't seem to be in sync with the QB, stupid penalties, and on and on. Did EJ stink it up, you bet! I just happen to think the coaches are the bigger problem.
-
The Bills had 23 rushes for 96 yards, a 4.2 yard per carry average, and yet EJ throws 44 times. The Texans came into that game as the 27th ranked run defense, and the Bills should have exploited that. This is more about bad coaching then anything else. Fred Jackson had the hot hand and he only saw 7 run touches
-
The Bills run game has two of the very best RB's in the league, and yet Hackett can't figure out how to utilize them to their fullest. Why do you expect them to be innovative with EJ or the receiving corps? The Bills just faced the 27th ranked run defense, and came out throwing. Hackett, Marrone will never change and things should only get worse with the Bills headed for Detroit who are the #2 team in the NFL against the run
-
The coaches can't bench EJ just yet, and as much as he sucked today...those are growing pains. The guy still hasn't even played a full 16 games yet, 2 games to go. I agree that EJ is painful to watch at times but then think of how un innovative Hackett is with the run game with two of the very best RB's in the game. We need to give him time with some real NFL coaches, after these assclowns get fired. I look at Sammy Watkins dropping how many passes before he finally caught some? I look at the Bills play calls to come out passing against the 27th ranked run defense? I look at 3rd down and short and go pass with a suspect QB, and drop happy receiving corp. I look at Spiller up the middle, and find only the backs of his blockers, again. Lastly, I gotta say I love me some Fred Jackson. Makes three defenders miss to get his yards. Its Ok Hackett, just have EJ keep throwing
-
Kelvin Benjamin & Brandin Cooks are both tearing it up. It wasn't just the 2015 first round pick, it was also a 2015 4th rounder. I like Whaley but this move could cost him his GM job
