And what watching the game doesn't say is how well Orton played despite all that adversity of the bad line, non existent run game. Plus the fact that he was able to change plays, and make them work based on what he saw on the field. From my perspective is, HOW LONG DO THE BILLS KEEP PEARS AT RG? I can understand the growing pains on that line due to two rookies. There is no excuse for keeping Pears on the field, as he is actually worse the Legursky, and Williams is no better. Even a waiver wire scrubs would be an improvement at this point.

Okie, link not working? "One cool thing Jackson did for Manuel was reach out to the young quarterback and let him know to keep his head up; Jackson understands being replaced, with both Marshawn Lynch and C.J. Spiller being drafted while he's been in Buffalo. "I did reach out. It's not something you want to deal with as a player, being told you didn't get the job done and we're going to look to someone else," Jackson said. "That can be very frustrating. I just wanted to make sure he was OK. He's just like any other player. He didn't like it but he wants to win games. He's going to continue to come to work, bust his butt and be that player we want him to be down the road." http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24741059/fred-jackson-on-kyle-orton-definitely-good-to-have-a-veteran-out-there ahh, thanks for the Info Yolo

What do the Bills do for a fix at guard now?
thewildrabbit replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a huge concern IMO, and I can't figure out why the team hasn't been looking at other players like a Richie Incognito. Someone who would make the difference in this team winning, and having another losing season. Richardson may get better, as he learns the ropes. Pears is a waste of space at RG, and shouldn't even be on the field. Doesn't it suck that this team could have such great players everywhere but at OG? I wonder if its going to take Orton or EJ getting sent to the IR before the team makes a move. -
First off, I was very concerned about Freddy's injury, as he looked like he was down on the field in a lot of pain. It looked like he pulled a hamstring. He did gut it out and return to the game, so all I can think of is it might have just been a cramp. Now CBS sports is saying its an ankle? Anyway, didn't see this posted anywhere on TBD, and its worth a look as it provides a good prospective from what the players see with EJ's benching. It actually was for the best. Watch the Vid. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24741059/fred-jackson-on-kyle-orton-definitely-good-to-have-a-veteran-out-there I love me some Fredex!

Kyle Orton showed what it looks like to have a decent veteran QB behind center. Someone who can make a mistake like the pick six, who can be pressured all game and still find a way to comeback from all that adversity. Plus, the fact that he was able to call audibles, change the play and make things work based on what he was seeing on the field....despite Hackett!! This is huge, and something that EJ simply can't do just yet because he is being taught by a JV OC. Orton might just end up teaching Hackett how to properly do his job.

Multiple Reports : Pegula IS the new owner
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This week guys! New ownership this week! I'm excited for the future of the team, as I don't see this franchise making the same mistakes as in years past. 14 years is a long time to go without even a hint of playoffs. -
Once the euphoria of that Detroit win subsides can we all get a grip on reality here? Sure, Sammy has made some amazing catches so far this year. But out of 5 pro games the kid has had only one 100 yard game with one TD. A total of 24 receptions for 284 yards, 2 TD's In comparison to another rookie WR selected by the Carolina Panthers 28th 1st round pick Kelvin Benjamin in 5 games, 24 receptions, 367 yards, 3 TD's. So far to me that simply doesn't quantify 3 draft picks, 2 first rounders, and a fourth. No offense to the fans with the rose colored glasses, but as the superstar WR's go he hasn't taken over a game like Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas have done this year. Demaryius Thomas 8 receptions for 226 yards 2 TD's in one game. -Calvin Johnson 7 receptions for 164 yards, 2 TD's in one game.- Julio Jones has had 3 100 yard games so far. 9 receptions 161 yards, 2 TD's in one game. Perhaps now that Sammy has a veteran QB throwing to him he will have some great games like those other three. Until that time, sorry, as I just don't see two first rounders on a WR when the team still doesn't have their franchise QB just yet.

At this point, does anyone think we keep Spiller?
thewildrabbit replied to Big C's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The 2007 first round pick for the Buffalo Bills in the Jauron era didn't fit the scheme Chan Gailey was running in 2010 so the FO shipped him out for a 4th. Seattle is still loving that trade because they got a great, pro bowl RB for a measly 4th, and that was 4 years ago. Now Nathaniel Hacker can't figure out how to get the most out of Spiller so I suppose here we go again in trading away an elite player for next to nothing, and if they can't resign him he walks just like Levitre, just like Byrd. More wasted draft picks has been the culture under buddy Nix & Doug Whaley. It was the offensive formation that allowed Spiller to do so well under Gailey. The 3-4 WR spread sets that made the defense commit to either extra DB's to cover the WR's which opened up the Bills run game. Then defenses would go back to the extra LBers to stop the run, and that opened up the passing game. This sort of thing seems to elude the current Bills OC. Chan Gailey even admitted that both Spiller & Jackson should each be seeing 20 touches a game, and yet he wouldn't allow himself to stop calling passing plays. -
I called it masterful because he managed to make plays after the half despite the pick 6, and the nonexistent Bills run game, 22 rushes for 49 yards. Meant Orton was forced to carry the entire offense on his shoulders. Then the fact that Orton was only sacked 2x, and was under a lot or pressure due to the bad line. 15 first downs passing vs 2 rushing. 30 of 43 for 293 yards passing. The Detroit lions went into that game with the #1 overall defense, and yet Orton managed to beat them. The biggest part was that Orton called audibles at certain times, and those plays worked to help win the game.

Probably the least desired player in the last draft is where the Dallas Cowboys went in selecting Zack Martin who they took with the 16th pick. Just about as unsexy a pick as you can get in taking an OG in the first round. But then, just look what that revamped O line has done for that Dallas run game, and QB Tony Romo. Then the same can be said about OG Fluker, and Philip Rivers. The Bills O line is the weakest area of the team, and not just because they are starting two rookies, as there will usually always be growing pains with rookies. Its mostly because of the money spent on a near useless player in FA OG Chris Williams, and the continued unbelievably bad play of Erik Pears. While Orton played a masterful game and held his composure against Detroit despite the not so great first half play. Which is something that EJ clearly fails to do. I still have to question if that #1 wouldn't have been better spent on a QB next draft. The Bills also still need a RG, and possible LG in this next years draft.

I couldn't agree more. That one coach will probably sink the entire regime.
-
I think what the OP is referring to is the Cowboys multiple TE formations sometimes called an "elephant offense'' is primarily utilized for run blocking. Dallas uses 3 TE's on the field at the same time very successfully to help DeMarco Murray in their run game. I happen to agree that run game needs help big time. if your going to run a max protect offense, then perhaps why not put some offensive tackles in place of the TE's to help with the run game. The current Bills TE's are almost as useless as Pears.
-
What? Not entirely sure what game you were watching.... but the Bills only ran 22 times for 49 yards at Detroit. The average rush was 2.2 yards per carry. Spiller had 10 rushes for 8 yards, and kept getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage. CJ has trouble breaking three tackles and making yards after contact like Freddy does, so obviously he sucks according to many here. Then Orton threw 43 times, which is just about the exact same numbers from the week before at the Texans. Stating that the O line simply sucks is a gross understatement, and laying the blame on the two rookies starting is not entirely justified either. RG Erik Pears is a downright joke, and shouldn't even be on the field. The Bills O line sucks big time, as do their TE's. The play calling, and scheme also suck. Kyle Orton was calling audibles and changing plays that kept things working. That said, Nate Hackett is a JV OC, and should be replaced.

Naturally fans will be loving the pick after a win, and the Bills tied in the division lead with the Patriots after 5 games in being 3-2. Lets revisit this conversation next April, as so many things can happen between now and then. As adamant as some here are about spending a first round pick on an OG. I'm just as adamant about spending two first round picks AND a fourth for a WR. Especially considering the team still doesn't have their franchise QB. The one unequivocal position that touches the ball every offensive play is far, far more important then a WR. Both Kelvin Benjamin & Brandin Cooks look to be excellent receivers from this years draft. Now tell me a trade back for one of those two, while picking up an extra 2nd pick for a quality OG wouldn't have paid off big time. Pears at RG is a joke, and the run game, and offense is suffering for it. I love the win in Detroit, and that Sammy is a special player. Its just so far he doesn't look to be worth 3 players at this time. I hope Sammy is soon a top 10 WR with Orton at QB, and he single handedly destroys the Patriots. I may just change my mind

and yet Hackett keeps calling those shotgun draw plays that get the RB tackled at or behind the line of scrimmage!! Exactly how is that Spillers fault? -
Fredex continues to fire up the team with every play. My favorite Bill for the last decade. Kyle Orton changed the play on the last series, and managed to make things work despite Nate Hacker. Why is Pears even in there at RG? Urbik has to be way better, or Hairston, or even Cujo. Man Pears stinks. Detroit really missed Calvin Johnson, as their offense wasn't even close to what it is with him healthy. The Detroit Kicker, OH Henry. Thanks for sucking

This is it exactly. A real OC would find a way to get Spiller more yards, and less runs up the middle ...into the backs of the O linemen. -
Alex Henery for President

Good lord he stunk, and we are so thankful for it Poor guy needs to update his resume, as I doubt he stays in the NFL -
Is there any doubt that he will be unemployed after this week. The Bills defense kept them in the game. Carpenter won it. Sammy - Freddy- Orton all played a big part. Its just great to see them win this one.

I agree that the Bills aren't going to hold back...as that Lions D rips right thru them to the QB. If the Bills didn't want to run against the 27th ranked run defense of the Texans. Then what will they do against the #7th ranked run defense, and Detroit is the 5th ranked pass defense. I think I've read that they allowed only one TD pass so far this season. Anyway they are only allowing a league best 15.5 points a game.

1st Bills offensive play from scrimmage tomorrow?
thewildrabbit replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It should be a pass going against one of the leagues better run defenses. But then knowing the current tool calling plays it will be a run. Up the middle with Spiller
