What the "experts" think, TNF Bills at Fish
thewildrabbit replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sammy one on one should win his match up, and that Dolphin O line just needed to move three players across the line. The Bills D line should have a field day, err night. Tallywhacker already dinged up, and he gets his arse handed to him by the Dr of sack, Marcell Dareus. CBS sports has the Bills by 53%, I like it. -

How Many Wins saves the Coaching staff
thewildrabbit replied to rumblefish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I certainly don't know what team you are referring to, as the best in over a decade. What some of us in the reality see is that this offensive coaching staff has made so many, many mistake from their first year, and second year that this team could have been in the playoffs both years. Its slipping away fast to another lost season. The Bills offense was ranked 20th last year, and are even worse this season at 25th with a better QB. FAIL The Bills were near last in the NFL in 3 downs and out last season. They were so bad in fact that they garnered the nickname "hurry up and put offense". Its really almost no different this season, as the Bills still can't make a first down by running when needed, and are still so bad in sustaining drives. FAIL How does an intelligent HC with a pedigree in the O line start a Colin Brown at LG, or have a backup like David Snow even on the roster. Pears at RG, really? Two years with bad players on the line, and the Bills are currently fielding one of the worst, if not the worst O line in the League. FAIL No veteran QB on the roster last year to help the first year OC, and the THREE rookie QB's. Hacket coaching EJ, Tuel, Lewis was like the blind leading the blind. we now see the significance of what presence can do to help young QB with with Kyle Orton on the team. Currently both EJ & Hackett are learning from Orton. FAIL. The Bills are last in the league in red zone offense, and yet keep a big red zone threat in WR Mike Williams unused or mostly inactive. The HC would rather help his good buddy the ST coach by having an extra man on kick coverage's even tho he has an extra kicker starting to kick it out of the end zone. 2x FAIL. Spiller under HC Chan Gailey had a spectacular year in a spread offense, and Hackett could never figure out how to get Spiller in space. So, consequentially we got to watch a lot of plays with a talented RB running into the backs of his blockers because there is no hole from all the bad blocking due to bad O lines. FAIL Numerous penalties during games at the most inopportune times from players who should know better, bad coaching. FAIL The Bills gave up three draft choices to trade up for Sammy Watkins, their first pick 2014, the first pick 2015, and a 4th in 2015. Granted he has been slightly injured at times but he has still played in every game. Right now Sammy is tied at 30th in receptions, and Brown from the Steelers has 79. This coaching staff should be getting Sammy much more involved in the offense in various ways. By moving him all over the field, slot, outside, RB to run end arounds. Reverses, fake reverses. Especially since Spiller is on IR. The guys IS a playmaker and this staff used him as a decoy in one game they lost. The more receptions Sammy has the more chance the Bills have in winning. FAIL The Bills are currently fielding a top ten defense currently ranked 6th in the NFL, and finally have a veteran journeyman QB who doesn't force throws, and doesn't cause turnovers. Yet this offense still can't win games because of poor decisions by the offensive coaching staff. Me personally I'm so tired of the ineptitude, stupidity, and mistakes I'm hoping the HC and entire offensive coaching staff gets the ax. I just don't see this team making the playoffs, or winning 9-10 games. Schwartz is a keeper tho. On a side note this season could possibly be saved by benching Pears, and finding a better player at RG. (Incognito?) Running an actual spread / pistol type offense like Gailey used to run. Then allow Mike Williams the chance to be effective in the red zone by actually being active. JMO. -
Why I think Marrone should be fired...
thewildrabbit replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
and what does that tell you about his mentality? an O line guru that fields the worst line in the NFL. I consider the source -
Good post, and a waste of energy tho as most fans simply want to blame the QB. He didn't have an EJ in Houston type day, and he didn't turn it over. Good thing a top red zone target in Mike Williams was inactive because the team really needed that extra kick off coverage just in case he didn't kick it out of the endzone. If the QB is missing his receivers on a consistent basis towards the end of the game, why keep throwing it over, and over? Fifteen passes vs two runs in the 4th quarter, and then the one on fourth down sealed the loss. Strip, and nice hands Chandler...

But can you see what aspect of the team was playing great all game, and which wasn't?

Orton Unforced Errors Week 10 - Film Breakdown
thewildrabbit replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is no question that the team needs to score more then 13 points, and would have if Brown isn't stripped right before his run into the end zone. That was against the team that hadn't allowed a rushing TD all year. The Bills floundered on offense against the Jets, but it was covered up by the 6 turnovers. One of my beefs is that a top red zone threat was inactive to give ST's more help with returns...yet they mostly kicked it out the back of the endzone. Lots of ways to point fingers at this loss, and Orton isn't getting it from me even if he wasn't perfect. Not when they could have kicked a FG to make it a one point game with 2:33 left and let it rest on the defense, kicker to win it. -
Broncos considering signing Incognito
thewildrabbit replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to disagree. Judging by PFF reports both Pears & Urbik are grading around zero in both pass, run blocking. Richie graded more then a positive +10 in both aspects with every team he has been with. The guy is a top player at his position, its his big mouth baggage that does him in. -
Both the only two run plays in the fourth quarter resulted in a right end run by Bryce Brown for no gain, and Frank Summers left guard for one yard. My basic complaint against the coaches was for the 4th down pass against the leagues best pass defense while knowing Orton wasn't playing his best. Take the FG, and make it a one point game. Then let the strongest area of the team that has been playing great all day stop them, and have the guy who has already made a 58 yarder this year give it a shot. Its not like the Bills have the Jacksonville defense or that Detroit kicker who missed three in a game. Its like these coaches don't do whats in their own best interest, and play to their strengths.
-
That's the way I see it as the Defense was playing great all day, and had 6 sacks on Smith. The percentages say kick the FG, and take the 3 points. Then considering how Orton was paying it made no sense to keep throwing when he missed on a bunch of previous throws. 15 pass attempts vs 2 runs in that fourth quarter.
-
Thinking of that, I gotta wonder if Orton would be constantly throwing to Steve as he was always finding a way to get open. I was thinking that Williams should also be much more experienced in running every route in the playbook. Anyway, It just makes no sense to me to have a viable red zone threat inactive when the team is desperate for help in that area.

Why I think Marrone should be fired...
thewildrabbit replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That list could go on, and on with mistake after mistake the last two years. Starting with Colin Brown in replacing Levitre, and how he lasted 6 full games before being replaced I'll never know. I'm going to blame the HC for every bad player that takes the field under that HC. Just like the GM also needs to take the blame. Does the GM force a HC to start a player? Marrone stating he starts his best players, and yet he doesn't because he doesn't seem to know the difference. Urbik benched for Richardson while Pears plays RG. Yea, that makes perfect sense. -
Maybe Tom Brady. But then, if got that far that WR would be cut by Belichick. I agree with Kelly The Dog, in that Orton would probably want the more experienced player out there, as he is less likely to make a mistake and be in the wrong place, or not be in sync with the QB's reads.

Bills vs. Chiefs Postgame
thewildrabbit replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Open up man, tell us how you really feel. I hear you tho, this game and the Houston game stand out to me as outrageously bad coaching to have EJ try and throw 44 times into that fierce pass rush, and now having Orton throw 48 times into the leagues #1 pass defense. 7-2 flushed away. even if it means losing... -
What happens if The Bills lose Thursday?
thewildrabbit replied to first_and_ten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is valid, it is very valid! This game was so Deja Vu of last seasons loss its crazy. The Bills were going up against the #1 pass defense in the league, and chose to throw 48 times at it. The coaches should have noticed that Orton wasn't on his game, and yet went pass happy in the fourth quarter with 15 passes to two runs. Its not like Orton turned the ball over or had a horrific day like EJ had in houston. He just never got into a decent Rhythm so why not run more? Then at the end of the game when you are seeing Orton miss open receivers... kick the freaking FG and be down by one point, and then let the defense, and kicking game win it, or go for an onside kick. Listen to the CBS sports Recap, as also they say it was bad coaching. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/gametracker/recap/NFL_20141109_KC@BUF -

I don't know if i agree with that. It seems to me that Marrone is so predisposed in helping his best bud Danny that he doesn't have time to involve himself in the sinking offense. Can both Hackett, and Marrone be so stupid to play into teams strengths, and play away from their weaknesses like running at the good run defense of the Jets, and ignoring their crippled secondary. This week is was throwing 48 times at the leagues #1 pass defense while limiting the running game averaging 5.0 YPC avg with only 22 rushed against the leagues 17th ranked run defense. Hackett did the same thing with EJ at Houston, and allowed him to be exploited by that fierce Texans pass rush. I gotta admit, JJ Watt loved him for it. If its something immediate like Whaley giving him an ultimatum after losing at Miami. Ex Dolphin OC & GB HC Mike Sherman is doing nothing this year that I know of, and as is Chan Gailey. If its just the OC then I would love to see LSU's OC Cam Cameron get a shot at OC, as he would build a very powerful run game, and he developed Joe Flacco.
-
Its amusing to me to see this poster keep defending an offensive coaching staff that I think even he is smart enough to see is not very good. But, its what he does. You seem to be dancing around the fact that this current team fields the very worst O lines in the league, and one of the very worst offenses under a supposed offensive & O line guru. I gotta admit, I haven't heard the Marrone should get credit for the defense spiel from him yet.

Good point, and I'll bet he gets an awful lot of looks at HCing jobs this off season. A lot of the reasons a HC does or doesn't make it depends on his GM, and his assistant hires. Schwartz did inherit a 0-16 team and got them to 10-6. Nobody thought Pettine was going to get looks either. -

thewildrabbit replied to first_and_ten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are correct, he is not an "elite" franchise type QB or the Bills couldn't have landed him so easily. The coaching calling 48 passes against the leagues #1 pass defense is disturbing to me. Considering the Bills run game was tearing them a new one with 22 rushes for 111 at a 5.0 YPC average, and against an 18th ranked Chiefs run defense. Sorry, it just makes no sense to try and go full bore against another teams strengths, and work away from their weaknesses. This team is beating itself in many games. -
Good points. Plus, there could be many reasons as to why a QB has a slightly off day. But nothing compared to EJ's day against Houston. If he took a hard hit early, and slightly injured something it has an effect. If he took a hard hit and his mental timer says get the ball out earlier it has an effect. So many things can contribute to a QB having a slightly off day, and Orton looked like he never did get into a proper rhythm . My problem isn't with the QB, its with the coaching staff not recognizing that the QB wasn't fully in sync, and just kept calling passing play after passing play. Especially when the run game was working so well to the tune of 5.0 YPC avg. Then considering the Chiefs did have the #1 pass defense in the league, and Orton didn't want to force passes. He didn't have a turnover all game. In my view Orton was the least of the issues in that game.

This~ There is nothing we fans can do except cry in our beers, and hope Brady falls on his face at some point. As much as I wanted Marrone to be successful, its been mistake after mistake is so many facets that shows the entire coaching staff is still learning as they go. Will the Pegula's want to wait it out another two years to see if this staff can eventually become actually relevant in the division? I dunno. I know I don't want to wait when I see other teams become playoffs teams in one year after a HCing change. The Eagles, and they continue to win with a backup off the waiver wire in Mr Butt Fumble. The Cardinals with the best record in the same division as the 49ers, and Seahawks Mike McCoy took his team to the playoffs in his first year, and may do so again this year. Jeez, even Mike Pettine has his Browns leading the black, and blue AFC North division over Baltimore, and Pittsburgh. Still, the Bills are only 2 games out of first place in the division with 7 games remaining. At Mia, NYJ, Clev, At Denver, GB, At Oak, At NE. Hey, miracles do happen! Win the next 3, and its 8-4, lose to Den & NE but beat GB & Oak, and its 10-6. That's enough to show me that no changes should be made playoffs or no playoffs. Even at 9-7 it might be enough depending on how the team is playing at the end of the year, and if the OC is still out thinking himself. I'm a big EJ fan, and think this was the right move as with Hackett as OC its like the blind leading the blind. Why some fans are still whining about the move is beyond me.
