Chuck Pagano and Mike Smith are worse than Marrone
thewildrabbit replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Simply because that is all related to bad coaching! After the Miami game both Phil Simms & Deion Sanders say it wasn't the QB, it was the coaching / playcalling. Nearly last in the league on offense, and worst in the league in the red zone with a supposed offensive guru as HC. This coaching staff has almost buried itself with ineptitude, and I for one am grateful we have new owners who will make changes -
Ben Tate, LaGarrette Blount released
thewildrabbit replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The current coaches don't even know the difference between a good offensive lineman, and a horrific one. Yet practice against their own D line which is one of the best in the league. Gailey didn't know the difference between Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Brian Brohm as he stated all three were about the same. Then started Trent Edwards I yearn for the day when this team finally hires some good offensive coaches that actually know WTF they are doing. Marrone & Hackett are stealing money, as was Gailey. -
The real question here isn't if Sammy was worth it or not. The question, or dilemma is the team still doesn't have their franchise QB, nor do they have a 2015 first round pick to obtain him this draft. So, when every team in the rest of the league is drooling over which prospect they will obtain. Buffalo will be sitting there watching Cleveland take their top 10 pick. This is going to become more volatile as we get closer to the end of the season. Now in with some sensibility wouldn't it have been better to draft Odell Beckham Jr with that first pick, (as they loved the kid too) and still have that 2015 #1 pick. Or even trade back and grab that elusive big target that Buffalo has needed for the last 6 years in Kelvin Benjamin who is leading the league as the best rookie WR to date. I'd Imagine Benjamin would help greatly with those red zone woes. With that trade back they pick up an extra second and grab that TE or OG that they really needed. Its nearly every draft, every year that this team still fails to fulfill its roster properly, and there are still huge fails coming from the scouting department.

I've recently seen him post in another thread. I left him alone with the thinking that he just might be so disgusted with this years team that he simply doesn't care to think about the game after its over. I know I don't.

Who do you WANT as the Bills coach in 2015?
thewildrabbit replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We do. I get that every game that Alabama plays is an event almost equal to a super bowl event with all the crazy fans. Granted Saban is 62, and is on course to become the greatest crimson tide coach ever, and his current roster is loaded for the future. My take is men like him are driven more by the big prize then just by money. He has already won four BCS championships, and no Super bowls. Sometimes guys like him feel the need to scratch that itch they can't get to, and that itch being the Vince Lombardi trophy that says you, and your team is the best in the world at the professional level. Its going to an interesting off season as Atlanta owner Arthur Blank is said to be trying to get Saban to make a move, and so is good friend Atlanta GM Thomas Dimitroff. Time will tell. -

I'm very well aware of how exciting the college football scene is in big football cities, and big football states. I'm also very aware that the elite schools pay their coaches more then some pro teams, and those winning HC's like Saban can make a ton of money. Nevertheless both Saban & Petrino went back to college because they both failed at the NFL level, and not because they were lured back because of working for their Alma mater or simply because of money. Like I said there are only 32 NFL head coaching jobs in the world, and that in itself is far more prestigious. Then there is no ultimate level of football higher then the NFL, america's most popular sport by far " Pro football is the most popular sport in America for at least the 30th straight year." http://espn.go.com/n...ar-mlb-2nd NFL 35% College FB 11% Besides all that I still see the Pegula's not having any issue at all in making the next Buffalo Bills head coach the highest paid HC in the league. They could probably lure Nick Saban away from Alabama if they wanted, even with his 6.9 mill per. -
Reich is not the problem. Phillip Rivers is said to have a severe rib injury, and has had it for awhile now. The team has gone thru so many centers that they even picked up Doug Legursky as their 3rd guy, and now he is out with an injury. Their O line is so banged up they are getting a grade at 31st in the league. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/nov/16/chargers-philip-rivers-rib-injury-antonio-gates/ Its also that their starting RB's have all been out or injured. Danny Woodhead on IR. Their starting RB Ryan Matthews has been out with an injury all year until this week. They have been using cast off Donald Brown, and undrafted rookie RB Brandon Oliver up until Matthews was cleared this week.

IMHO Fans should not be afraid of change. Look what happened with the losing of DC Mike Pettine, and the hiring of Jim Schwartz, as the defense is a now full on top ten unit. We all knew the talent was there before Pettine / Schwartz, and just not being utilized effectively. The offense is bad for obvious reasons, and even both TV commentators ex NFL QB Phill Simms & Ex NFL DB Deion Sanders acknowledged it wasn't the QB, it was bad coaching. We recently see every week that this coaching staff can't make the half time adjustments to get the offense to work. Its probably going to get worse as the season goes on, and team become more familiar with the plays the Bills run. This year with the addition of Kyle Orton, and Sammy Watkins we know the offense shouldn't be near last in the NFL. The offense has enough talent to be a playoff team save for the coaching, and a few positions. I know I for one will embrace the change. Perhaps it might even be Bill Cowher, Jim Harbaugh, or even Frank Reich. I can see the Bills actually in the playoffs, and competing with the Patriots for the division with better coaching

Kinda funny to think that Marty S was fired by the Chargers after a 12-4 season, and blackballed after that. Or Eric Mangini was fired by the Jets after a 9-7 season, and yet because the owner happens to like Big Mouth Rex (with his Mark Sanchez tattoo) that Ryan is still employed by the team at 2-8. Nobody really knows what the Pegula's will do at this point. I think they won't make any changes this season simply out of respect to Russ Brandon who is preaching continuity in keeping Marrone. Then the Bills defense is a top ten unit while the offense is one of the very worst in the NFL despite the journeyman at QB. keeping Marrone next year, and changing the OC would be akin to Gailey swapping out George Edwards and allowing Dave Wannstedt to take over as his DC. Mostly because I just don't think this offensive minded coach has a clue how to build a proper NFL offense. I think there should be ample time after the season, and before the combine to hire a senior NFL adviser, and then for the team to hire a new president of football operations, and then let that man do his job. This team has lacked a real football brain at the top of the food chain for 14 years,(John Butler) and Donahoe doesn't count as he was fired in his job as GM before becoming team president. Kinda like Gailey getting hired as HC after he was fired in his last job as an OC. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24749471/accorsi-holmgren-wolf-candidates-to-help-bills-ownership-transition

thewildrabbit replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly, well said. Like I said I think the grade PFF is currently giving Pears, Urbik, and the rest of the line is far, far to generous compared to what they are actually accomplishing. Look at the numbers for the last three games, and the drive starts yards speak for themselves. I don't need to look at PFF to see the Bills are currently fielding one of the very worst offenses in the NFL. Then think about exactly why that is -

Just go back to the Jets game and look at what the offense did all game. They had starts at the Jets 48, punt. Jets one, TD. Jets 31, FG. Jets 27, FG. Jets 44, punt. Jets 10 FG. Jets 14 TD. Without those 6 turnover I gotta wonder what the score would have been. Perhaps a loss 23-20? Then look at the yards in the drives. 64 -1, 5, 1, 92, 4, -4, -4, 9, 9, 3, -1, 14, 71. Talk about pathetic! The Bills had 4 series where they lost yardage! So, out of 13 drive starts the Bills had only three successful long drives, and two that were actually big plays by Sammy in his 3 receptions for 157 yards, and a TD. The Jets have a very stout run defense, and a crippled secondary so the bills rush 32 times and pass only 17 times. If not for the 6 turnovers.... Against KC. 7 plays, 51 yards. TD 6 plays, 30 yards. Punt 3 plays, 1 yards. Punt 3 plays, 0 yards. Punt 9 plays, 23 yards. FG 6 plays, 25 yards. Punt 11 plays, 71 yards. Fumble 11 plays, 73 yards. FG 4 plays, 19 yards. Punt 4 plays, 21 yards. Punts 7 plays, 10 yards. Downs 2 plays, 16 yards. Fumble... against the Chiefs the Bills are killing them with the run game to the tune of 5.0 YPC avg. The Chiefs have the #1 pass defense in the league and they choose to throw 48 times vs 22 rushes Against Miami, 10 drive starts 14 plays, 67 yards. FG 17 plays, 85 yards FG 1 play, -1 yard end of half 3 plays, 3 yards. Punt 8 plays, 49 yards. FG 3 plays, - 20 yards. Safety 5 plays, 10 yards. Missed FG 5 plays, 24 yards. Punt 4 plays, 2 yards. Downs 4 plays, 7 yards. Downs.... Simply pathetic. The Dolphins have the #2 pass defense in the league so obviously the Bills throw 39 times. The Bills rushed 19 times for 54 yards with a 2.8 YPC avg. Just look at those numbers, is PFF wrong? Even when the Bills can mount an effective run game they choose to pass, and thus put more pressure on Orton for success. Against both the Jets & Dolphins the run game was pretty much useless. We all saw last night that even with Andrew Luck as the QB you can't win without an effective run game. Now that the Patriots found 3rd string RB Jonas Gray who ran 38 times for 199 yards, and 4 TD's, it didn't matter that Brady threw two picks. -

Sites like PFF, and Football Outsiders have a bad rep with most fans here simply because they post what most Bills fans don't want to see. Which is negative stats about their favorite team What I've noticed over the years is most Bills fans don't tend to believe another fans opinion on a subject unless they see it written by a neutral site. Its kinda why I quote them often when I post about the O line, as it should be something that other fans can relate to. I don't look at them as the holy grail of stats, but they are very close in their posted stats to what I see on the playing field in terms of certain players. Take a look at what they posted about Pears from the Miami game. What they don't really tell you is really just how bad he is, and how much he is restricting the Bills ability to run the ball. I feel both Pears, and Urbik are really killing the Bills ability to run the ball. I feel that grade is being way to kind, and it should be more like -15. "Erik Pears, RG: -3.9 Breakdown: Fresh off his first positive grade of the year, Pears came crashing back down to earth against the explosive Dolphins defensive line. It wasn’t that he was beat with an alarming regularity, but more that when he was beat it was often off the snap, causing plays to break down. He’s had a tough year and with the future in mind, is it time to blood some younger players with higher upside? Signature Play: With 8:26 to go in Q2 Pears is beat so quickly off the snap at first take you think the quarterback is drifting in the pocket to set up a screen. A second viewing though eliminates any idea of that, with Randy Starks flying by the Bills right guard as if he’s not even there." were they wrong? https://www.profootb...lphins-week-11 Why the Bills haven't turned to someone else like Richie Incognito is beyond me, or even someone off the PS. -

thewildrabbit replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whats crazy is the Bills have two very solid starters on their O line in Wood at C, and Glenn at LT, and its the absolute horrid play at the OG position that is killing the team. Plus, the rookie at RT isn't helping things in regards to their overall grade as a unit. Pears, Richardson and Urbik are so bad its bringing the entire line down, and is a big reason why they can't run effectively at all, and not much better at pass blocking. Anyway, I highly doubt either coach would allow Erik Pears to play guard. Erik Pears, RG: -3.9 Breakdown: Fresh off his first positive grade of the year, Pears came crashing back down to earth against the explosive Dolphins defensive line. It wasn’t that he was beat with an alarming regularity, but more that when he was beat it was often off the snap, causing plays to break down. He’s had a tough year and with the future in mind, is it time to blood some younger players with higher upside? The Falcons went 4-12 last year with that stud, first round pick at QB starting every game all year. It just shows that even playoff QB's can't overcome a bad team. -
Kelvin Benjamin is a beast at 6'5 240 lbs, and was drafted with the 28th pick in the first round. Update: New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks broke his thumb and will be out 4-6 weeks http://www.rotoworld...in-cooks-(thumb)-out-4-6-weeks Granted he doesn't have Sammy's hands, and doesn't always finish his routes. If you have him on your fantasy team then you should be starting him every week, as Kelvin is killing it the last two weeks with 20 pts two weeks ago, and 29 pts this week, and he really has had only two off weeks all year. Sammy has had five off weeks so far. Lets face it, for whatever reason the Bills just aren't getting him the ball enough. Eff Chris Hogan, he can't do what Watkins does, and he is the one who can't hold Sammy's jockstrap. Watkins shouldn't be the decoy for Hogan. This Bills OC sucks.

Who do you WANT as the Bills coach in 2015?
thewildrabbit replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In all honesty I highly doubt any person in their right mind would choose any college over an NFL job, as with the latter there are only 32 in the world. Nothing carries as much prestige or glory with it, as winning the Vince Lombardi trophy. Then I also doubt that the Pegula's will allow anyone to outbid them for the services of the person they determine will be their new head coach. Just the same way they they surely overbid for the team to ensure they would own it. Then, I also doubt that anyone will care about the incident between Jim Kelly & Jim Harbough years ago. I'd bet Jimbo would embrace Harbaugh should he become the new HC. This poll may be getting more, and more interesting over the new several weeks depending if the bills continue to lose games. Some others to perhaps add to the list, as they will get looks for head coaching jobs next year. Denver DC Jack Del Rio: Denver OC Adam Gase: Oakland interim HC Tony Sparano: 49er OC Greg Roman: 49er D line coach Jim Tomsula: current Stanford HC David Shaw: -
Schwartz as Head Coach, Pepper Johnson DC
thewildrabbit replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Out of respect for Russ Brandon I think the Pegula's will leave the coaching staff intact until the offenseason. Thus allowing Marrone to bury himself leaving them no alternative but to make changes. Schwartz might be the choice at that time, who knows. I'd prefer to see how many more games like the Miami game the defense will allow before canonizing Schwartz. -

thewildrabbit replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Horsehockey! Neither one of those two would allow Pears to play RG, and I'm pretty certain that they would request different players until they found one that was actually decent. Then, neither would place friendships over smart choices for assistants either. That is exactly what killed Gailey in his choice for George Edwards as his first DC, and then Dave Wannstedt as his second choice. This is whats killing the Bills this year is Marrone is so intent on helping his best but the ST coach that he is overlooking his other friend in OC Nate Hackett. Bad assistant coaches also killed Dick Jauron, as the man was just to afraid that if he hired someone with actual NFL experience to run his offense, that he might just be replaced by him. Then Matt Ryan has been sucking the last two years for various reasons, and his bad QB play will probably get Mike Smith fired.. right along with their GM Thomas Dimitroff. A great QB can't overcome a bad O line, and a nonexistent run game. As we all saw last night, even the best QB's can't win without a decent run game to support them. Then what did the Patriots do? Ran the ball down Indy's throat with RB Jonas Gray for 38 rushes 199 yards 4 TD's. But, but, but its a passing league. Marrone is a dufus of epic proportions, as he is the one with the offensive background. St Doug is an ex NFL lineman, ex NFL O line coach, ex NFL OC, and yet is fielding the worst O line in the NFL (his supposed forte), and one of the worst offenses in the NFL (26th), and the very worst red zone offense in the NFL. Please don't compare a bad coach who hasn't gotten a team past 6-10 to coaches who both have gotten their teams to playoffs. -

Some thoughts re coaching, the GM and moving forward
thewildrabbit replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree Russ Brandon is a football operations moron, and as for his continuity statement. Should the Bills have kept Jauron? NO! the man refused to hire experienced OC's and it because of that he ruined two young QB's! 7-9 Should the Bills have kept Chan Gailey? NO! The man refused to try and find a QB besides Fitz, and his choices for DC's were a joke! 6-10 Should the Bills keep Doug Marrone? NO! the man is stubborn, and an egotistical jerk by calling himself St Doug when he doesn't know a decent LG from a horribly bad one. He is so absorbed in helping his best bud the special teams coach that his offense is floundering badly (26th in the NFL), and worst in the league in the red zone. The one player who could really help with the red zone troubles has been unused or inactive most of the season. 6-10 gets him fired, and so might 7-9 -

thewildrabbit replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While some say Happy wife, happy life! There is a lot to be said about the Raiders, and the owners desire / talk of eventually moving the team to San Antonio. Plus, talent wise which team would you rather coach? Then, why take a step backwards into college again? My take is Harbaugh wants to prove to the world that it was all him and not GM Trent Baalke who transformed that 49er team into a winner. IMHO, Money talks and BS walks. I think these new owners will acquire whomever they set their sights on. -
This WR draft class might end up as the greatest in NFL history when you look at what some of them have already achieved. Carolina WR Kelvin Benjamin is currently ranked 14th Bills WR Sammy Watkins is currently ranked 17th Buc's WR Mike Evans is currently ranked 23rd NOS Brandin Cooks is currently ranked 36th NYG WR Odell Beckham Jr Philly WR Jordan Matthews Arizona WR John Brown Pittsburgh WR Martavis Bryant Miami WR Jarvis Landry EDIT: adding un drafted rookie Jacksonville WR Allen Hurns . 30 rec 475 yards, 5 TD's http://espn.go.com/n...qualified/false • The New York Giants' Odell Beckham Jr., 12th pick: After watching Beckham catch seven passes for 108 yards in Week 10, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, "They've got a great one in that kid." His comments harked back to those uttered one year ago by an NFC personnel director, who said he believed the two best wide receivers in the country might be at LSU. The first was Beckham, the other was Jarvis Landry, another rookie wide receiver now shining in Miami. Some startling stats that make you wonder why the Bills haven't made a greater effort to get the ball to Watkins. • Buffalo's Watkins, fourth overall pick: Watkins' production has been a major factor in predicting the Bills' success. In the four games in which Watkins has had 30 or fewer receiving yards, the Bills are 0-4. In the five games in which Watkins has had more than 30 receiving yards, the Bills are 5-0. Buffalo needs Watkins, who is battling a strained groin, to step up down the stretch. http://espn.go.com/n...-schefter-blitz
