  1. exactamundo Irregardless of what you DJ haters think, it was DJ who started the talks with Owens
  2. Thank you for having a pair, and at a time when nobody was giving you any credit for addressing the teams needs! At 6'3'' 220 lbs, Owens gives the Bills that big target they were hoping for when they drafted Hardy. Now Tyke Tolbert needs to get to work on Owens drops. It may have been due to that finger injury and or maybe lack of focus, geterdone Tyke. If nothing else this signing gives the Bills instant credibility on offense. It means opposing teams will be forced to leave single coverage on Lee Evans. I now have some hope for the 09 season , Thanks Coach Jauron P.S. If only the Bills can get that TE they also desperately need, if not in FA then in the draft
  3. This Bills team and its coaching staff need all the help they can get to keep their jobs, If TO can get 10+ TD's 60+ receptions and open up the deep passing game, then this Bills team might actually have a chance to compete against New England. Personally, I don't shiv a git how disruptive the Bills locker room is if they win 10 games this season.
  4. Free agency isn't over... the draft hasn't even begun, and won't until the end of April...and it is still awhile until training camp. Lets face it, there is still time for Jauron to save his sorry staff and A$$, considering the fact that they openly stated they need an elite WR opposite Lee Evans, and that the team needs to score more points. This gives me some real hope that the team might actually acquire a player who can help open up the passing game. Lord knows the current OC is gonna do nothing but call passing plays, even when its a clear running situation. So why not enable the guy to at least have the personnel to make those plays work. A really good tight end will also help enormously, passing options at RB,TE and another WR besides a possession player just might give the Bills a decent passing offense to compete against the Billicheats. So yea, a WR and TE worth a damn in either FA or the draft will make my year, and give me hope. PS, I could care less who they draft defensively, even god playing DE would fail to make the Tampax 2 work by himself, The bills don't have nearly enough talent for that crappy scheme to function the way it should. They will always be run on and will always give up the big play that defensive scheme was purposely designed to stop.
  5. Where do you propose the Bills pick up Dwight Freeny and Bob sanders along with Brian Urlacher and Tommie Harris along with Warren Sap and.... you get the picture. Those teams were loaded with tremendous talent, its why those defenses were so good, even then once Bob Sanders was hurt the defense wasn't nearly the same. GL with this because the Bills talent evaluators at OBD are average at best, there isn't one superstar player on the entire team!
  6. The "Tampa 2" and cover 2 are sorta 2 different animals. You can run a cover 2 scheme with any defense whereas the Tampa 2 is now only used by Dick heads
  7. ROFL The Bills had fewer injuries last season then the previous season, especially in the secondary, the stats reflect that? The Tampa 2 scheme is designed around the fact that only the front 4 linemen are supposed to go after the QB, that's it! No blitzes, no dogs, just send the 4 smaller, faster, penetrating linemen to get to the QB. There is a reason as to why so many teams have stopped using this style of defense, those smaller, faster penetrating linemen tend to get pushed around and run over and somehow never make it to the QB very often. Its why the Bills run defense stinks and will continue to stink at stopping the run and rushing the passer.
  8. If Jauron wants to keep his job he had better upgrade the WR position! They lost out on Coles but I suspect that they didn't want to over pay for a guy they may not keep very long. The window to keep FA receiver is probably 2 years as the Bills have some good young receivers on the roster right now. The Bills coaches know they need a veteran WCV receiver on the other side of Lee Evans. They know they need to score more points. Irregardless of all those who want more defensive players, If the Bills fail to make any moves to reinforce the offense they will most certainly be the very same inept scoring team they were last season, and will face a losing season no matter how good the defense is!!! Anyone of those listed above three would help the Bills offense immensely and have the experience to draw defenders away from Evans to open up the deep passing game. Galloway, 4 star, If his foot is OK,they guy is still very fast, will catch everything and could have another 1000 yd rec year, this time for the Bills Harrison, 4 star, the epitome of the classic "Wiley crafty veteran" and also would garner more coverage then Evans gets,if completly healthy would be a great pick up for 2 years to help show the younger players the ropes and open up the offense. T.O.Yea...TO! Owens is the only 5 star player available, offer the guy an incentive laden ONE year contract so he keeps his mouth shut and then watch the offense explode,he will want the ball every play and I'd say give it to him. The guy is an unmistakable talent and if kept for only one year he shouldn't disrupt the team to much. 10-15 touchdowns from him will make everyone happy. The only other options that might really help is if Crabtree drops to #11 and Buffalo takes him,or get Percy Harvin , Jeremy Maclin, all three have a 5 out of 5 star rating from Scout.com. At this point with the Bills still running the outdated Tampa 2, I could care less who they get in the draft or FA for the defense, they will stink no matter what, particularly the run D. Improving the offense with a WR upgrade will really help the team considering the current OC wants to call passing plays every down.
  9. The team he is referring to is the Raiders...Al Davis will pick Crabtree in the draft,ot Percy Harvin.
  10. Dunno why it would be worrying, the guy didn't play but 5 games. WR Joey Galloway was cut by the Bucs. The 37-year-old struggled through a foot injury last season. If his foot checks out OK this guy might be a huge help to the Bills
  11. Coles could just be that WCV the Bills need to open up the offense, the options in FA are down to him and maybe Marvin Harrison, who they can't afford, they need someone immediately. It took Josh Reed 5 years to develop into a really good possession receiver and he had way more potential then any young receiver the Bills have ATM.
  12. If Greer is so good, then why are the bills letting him leave, why sign Drayton Florance instead ? The team has a coaching staff. Head coach, offensive coordinator, position coach. While I agree that Jauron (HC) and Schonert (OC) are tools and inept in some areas, I'm not convinced Tyke Tolbert the receivers coach is a complete dunce just yet. It doesn't take a rare mind to see if a receiver is running his routes properly in practice, if he is catching everything thrown his way, if he can separate from DB's and make a difference. Not to mention that the QB and QB coach also have input into the offense, if someone really stands out and can make big plays consistently in practice then they would be given more chances on game day, pure and simple. Trust me, when an elite receiver completely turns around the DB and then runs right by him it opens up eyes. "The Bills really don't have that guy"
  13. Crikey, http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/billsnfl/story/585785.html • “In our division they know who our big threat is,” he said. “It’s Lee Evans. So what are they going to do? They’re going to take him away. They’re going to make you beat them in other ways. We have to improve in the pass game, no doubt about it.” “When you double Lee, he’s your big home run threat. You’ve got to find someone else who’s going to get deep. We don’t really have that guy. We had James [Hardy] but he was limited in what he did, being a rookie. We have to find other ways to get the ball down the field.” • At the same time, Schonert said he tried to call deeper routes more times than people realized. “We call them and you get sacked. You get beat right away. There were times when we had Lee Evans for a touchdown. We had Hardy for a touchdown the very first play of the first Jets game, but we had to dump it off to Marshawn real quick because of protection.”

  15. Jeez, I can't believe what some of you guys post on here, do you ever read the papers or what other posts have to say? The HEAD COACH and OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR have both recently stated in the buffalo news; 1st they need to score more points! 2nd, opposing teams have been shutting down the Bills only deep receiver and they DESPERATELY need another player who can be an actual threat to help Lee Evans and Trent Edwards. 3rd they stated, and I quote: "WE DON"T REALLY HAVE THAT GUY" !, meaning the 2nd receiver who is so good that he can take pressure away from Evans and make teams stop doubling him, which will open up the passing game and give Trent someone to throw to ...that is ACTUALLY OPEN!!!. When they make a statement like "we don't really have that guy" do you think the coaching staff has never given Jenkins, Johnson and Hardy chances to show what they can do? They most certainly do give all of them ample chance to shine in practices, reps, If they make to many mistakes they obviously don't see much playing time!! The difference between those young raw players and an experienced good veteran player is astounding, a seasoned vet can run precise routes, already know all the "hot reads", and earn the trust of the QB by not making constant rookie mistakes and drops during games. Receiver position in the NFL is called a "skill" position because it takes a great amount of skill and knowledge to preform at the NFL level. A receiver can easily run an off route and cause an interception, that screws the QB and the trust factor. SO YEAH, the Bills are really desperate for that second or even primary receiver to open up the passing game. I'd love to see the Bills go for Marvin Harrson, but I know they can't afford him, I'd settle for Coles though. AND, they still need a tight end
  16. I hope the bills don't take Maybin expecting him to be anything but an OLB, the guy was 234 in collage and went up to 249 for the combine and stunk it up at a 15 LB heavier weight, the guy ran a 4.89. Mayock stating the heavier weight really hurt him and may drop him out of the first round,he was horrid in the 3 cone drill. Watch path to the draft on NFL network Scout.com has him as the 27th rated player Maybin is a playmaking defender who lacks the size necessary to be an every down DE, but he could become a tremendous force as a 3-4 OLB. He has a great frame, but has to add to add bulk to compete at the next level. He has a quick first step, uses his speed to his advantage and is able to harass the quarterback by using his long wingspan against a tackle. He moves well laterally and changes direction smoothly. - Chris Steuber, Scout.com http://profootball.scout.com/a.z?s=127&amp...900&yr=2009 Just to give you some insight, Aaron Curry ran a 4.56 40 Maybin really had only one good year (one year wonder) at Penn st and could be a huge bust Of course ESPN has Maybin at the 11th pick Mcshay and Kiper #10. So we will see who really knows players and who doesn't
  17. I honestly don't understand why so many on this board just don't get that the Bills offensive scheme is freaking horrid, Its doubtful any player will flourish in this Bills offensive system. There is a reason why most teams have moved away from the Mike Martz passing offense.
  18. Curry won't be there at 4, he will be taken by the Chiefs at #3. Now that KC has their QB they will go OL or defensive side and right now Curry is the best player in the draft this year. The guy runs as fast as a WR and is 6'2'' 246. Of course it makes you wonder if perhaps the Patriots have something up their sleeves in that suspicious deal that sent Cassel AND Vrable to the Chiefs for only a #2. Their new GM was talking before the trade that Cassel would be worth a #1 and a #2 or more. Could the Pats have something cooking with the chiefs for that #3 overall pick during the draft?
  19. I don't know how you see that... The Bills may have the better QB and lead receiver, but that's about it. Jauron and his staff are running out dated offensive and defensive schemes that most other teams have dropped and moved on from and yet the Bills cling to the Tampa 2 and Mike Martz passing system. A dysfunctional front office, with no GM and the owner as acting president. The current Bills team is lacking a dominant front office force with an actual Pro football mentality and intelligence. There are still some people out there that could really improve the Bills franchise, like Mike Lombardi and Charlie Casserly as GM's. Wilson won't hire anyone because he doesn't want to give up the power and control. I think the 49ers might make the playoffs this year, the KC Chiefs will be in the playoffs before the Bills and they have a ton of rebuilding to go.
  20. It has more to do with the offense Cutler was in at Denver then it does his overall ability, look what happened to Eli Manning and the NY giants offense once they lost Plaxico Burris. Without Brandon Marshall, and if put into the Bills offense of last year. Cutler throws 25 INTs. Cutler 3 years in the NFL and in a dream passing offense with a top 5 great tall receiver and in a complex west coast offense Edwards 2 years in the NFL and in one of the worst offenses in the NFL, with a rookie offensive coordinator Jeez, tough choice
  21. I can't believe that you guys are comparing Trent straight up against Jay without taking other factors into consideration. Like comparing Denver's, Mike Shanahan's offense vs Buffalo's, Turk Schonerts ...are you freaking kidding me!!! With Denver you have an offensive genius running the west coast offense like it should be run, lets face it with a decent defense Denver is in the playoffs last season. Two super bowls and multiple playoffs under his belt, who would you rather play for, Denver or Buffalo? The receiving corps, Schonert recently stated that the Bills don't have that receiver opposite Lee Evans, hence all the pass coverage goes against Evans and they take him away most of every game. So Edwards really has no viable deep down field options. Whereas Brandon Marshall is like Plaxico Burris minus the handguns and is better receiver at this point, he is 6'4'' 230 and runs 4.4 40 ...are you freaking kidding me!!! Plus Denver has a player like Evans in Eddie Royal who is smaller and a burner. But Marshall is that receiver that all QB's dream of having. Like I stated eariler, if you put Cutler in Buffalo's offensive scheme he would be horrid, Cutler throws way more interceptions trying to force passes to Evans when he isn't open. In the Bills offense Cutler would not be rated the way he is,no way would he be a top 5 QB. You can't compare apples to toolboxes!!! Schonert is a tool, his first season as a offensive coordinator all he did was call shotgun passing plays, he was trained by someone most fans hated as a OC in Steve Fairchild. Running a system that has been dumped by every other team in the NFL. Martz was fired in St Louis,Fired in SF, Fired in Detroit, only the bills still run that crappy Martz offense. I'm not a Trent Lover by any means, Cutler might be more effective in Buffalo due to his better arm strength in the latter part of the season, cutting through the rotten weather and wind. Still,he would throw way more INT's. Didn't the Bills play the Broncos' last season? Which QB looked better for that game?
  22. Cutler has the better arm strength, but Edwards has the better accuracy. If you were to put Cutler in Buffalo's offense with Schonert calling plays, Cutler would have thrown way more INT's trying to force the ball to Evans. Denver had way better receivers Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall, Graham and Scheffler are better TE's,the better offensive line and most importantly the better head coach and offensive wizard in Mike Shanahan. The only area where the Bills were way better then the Bronco's was the RB's, and the Bills didn't actually start using play action passing until the Cleveland game, nor did they ever try and mount a constant running attack. It seemed like all Schonert did was call shotgun pass plays. I think Edwards would have looked great in Denver's offense with Shanahan installing the game plan
  23. SKOOBY was talking trash to the posters here at TBD, stating that his BMW is worth more then most homes in Buffalo
  24. #3 is horse hockey concerning the pass blocking, if you had read Turk Schonert's interview in the paper recently, he stated that the bills pass blocking was horrid, its the reason the Bills failed to go deep very often. The line looked good on some plays but then nobody was open so he went to the dump off pass. There is a small glimmer of hope in terms of that Schonert interview,at least from what I read. The Bills know they need a TE, they know they need another receiver like Lee Evans, opposite Lee Evans to help take the double and triple coverage away from him and help open up the offense. They know they need to build a better offensive line to run and pass block better. Jauron is on his last legs IMO and what he does this off season is critical, and will either make or break him as a head coach. Look at it this way, its a win win situation for Bills fans,if Jauron doesn't get the help needed to repair the offense and has a losing season, I'm confidant that Wilson will be forced to cave in to fans and season ticket holders and fire Jauron. With so many super bowl winning coaches currently unemployed this season, perhaps the Bills might hire one next season,or during the season if they go 0-9 or something. Shanahan- Cowher-Billick-Gruden,heck I'd be happy with martyball in Buffalo. If the Bills do manage to find the right players in the draft and free agency and get a winning season... everyone is happy.
  25. I just don't see buffalo signing anyone right away,if they did it would be because they threw a ton of money at them. I'm hoping they take their time and find players who are actually worth the money they pay them. Lets face it, Jason Peters is, and was way better then Dockery and I don't blame the guy for wanting more $$$ when he has to lineup with some player who is clearly inferior and getting paid much more $$$
