The entire point that I'm trying to get across, Did the Bills create the problem with Peters by bringing in free agents with less ability and pay them much more then Peters? Did Peters outperform his 4 million a year contract by making the pro bowl 2x, while other LT's are being paid 6 million a year more then him? Go on and tell me the Bills have a better offensive line without Peters protecting Edwards blind side. I don't love Peters, but I'd love it if he were still a Bill and didn't have to worry about Edwards blind side. Didn't have to wonder if a 366b LT *cough* *cough*(closer to 400lbs then 350lbs) can adequately block the speed rushers he will face this season. I only hope Langston Walker takes this move to heart and trims down to 330lbs and pancakes every rusher he faces.
-
Did you miss the previous posts about players out performing their contacts and making the pro bowl, Like I stated Peters was being underpaid by 6 million dollars, or more, per year. What about Marcus Stroud, wasn't that a slap in Peters face to see a player come in as a free agent and then the Bills redo his contact the very next year? The Buffalo Bills officially declared last year's trade for defensive tackle Marcus Stroud a success by giving him a two-year contract extension worth $8.25 million a year, Stroud's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN.com. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4050434 Seems like teams can do as they please, whenever they please. Honestly, I don't think Peters was greedy at first, had the Bills simply upped his contract more then Walker or Dockery he more then likely would have been satisfied. The guy was the only Bills pro bowl player and the the Bills best offensive player and they managed to get him mad and lose him.
-
Peters has two more years left on a contract he signed in 2006. He would have been paid an average of about $4 million, well below market value for an elite left tackle. The Miami Dolphins signed last year's No. 1 draft choice, Jake Long, to a five-year deal worth $57.5 million and $30 million in guarantees. The Carolina Panthers in February kept All-Pro tackle Jordan Gross from hitting the open market with a six-year contract worth nearly $60 million.http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-7-83/...for-Peters.html Jeez, he was only being underpaid around 6 mill a year. Yea that greedy bastage should have played out his contract and been happy to do so... Can you really blame a player for wanting what he deserves, what loyalty is there in the NFL when the Bills outright cut Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith and Andre Reed to stay under the cap.
-
At the end of the Bills negotiations with Peters they finally said they would pay him what he wanted, and he said after all this I just want out, so they were forced to trade him. The Bills are notoriously cheap (RW) and will fight tooth fang and claw rather then pay certain players what they truly deserve, they screwed up with Peters and they know it.
-
Show me another player on the Buffalo Bills that out performs his contract and then makes the pro bowl. Should the Bills look into redoing his contract if he out performs his old one, even if its only one year old? I look at it from the stand point you never know when and injury can end a career. I'll state it again, the average lifespan of an NFL player is THREE years. I dunno, perhaps I favor the players views rather then the views of the front office. But in my view any time a player is clearly better then others on the team at the same position and he is under paid and he knows it,then you pay him! So lets look at what happened, the Bills bring in Dockery and Walker as free agents and over pay them and it gets their best player upset. So what do they do, instead of simply paying Peters a dollar more then either. They screwed it up and lose him.
-
When the team completely overhauls the offensive line and every player at each position is changed, 2 rookies penciled in at guard and one didn't even play guard in college, then a back up player from another team to start at center...I'd say that constitutes a rebuilding. Fans don't want to acknowledge the fact that the Bills are rebuilding again, they rebuilt after Greg Williams and again after Mike Mularkey... and now Jauron knows he didn't get it right in his first three years soooo, he started rebuilding again.
-
The Bills had a trade in the works with the Lions for trading Dockery and it didn't go through because they screwed it up. The only Bills player named to the pro bowl the last two years was LT Jason Peters, irregardless of how Bills fans view him now he is highly thought of around the NFL, in fact Andy Reid the HC of the Eagles stated Peters was the best LT in the NFL, which is why they gave up a first round draft pick for him. The average life span of a player in the NFL is THREE years, so IMO every player has a right to obtain the best pay he can get, while he can get it. The team will cut a player when they feel like it no matter what his contract states! A few years ago the Bills brought in Dockery and Walker and paid them both more then Peters, although Peters was clearly better then both of them. The Bills should have re upped Peters contract right then and there, they didn't and the result was an unhappy player. Had the Bills renegotiated his contract and paid him accordingly they would still have one of the premier left tackles in the NFL and all these posts about the O line would be moot
-
My point was, he knows he is out of his natural position and knows he is not suited till fill LT, he will still try his best because he is a professional. I didn't state he was focusing on his limitations, I stated he knew them. and was very aware he is simply not being put in position to succeed by the coaches. This move just shows me that the Bills don't understand the offensive line positions very well, there is currently nobody in the entire Bills organization that has a clue on how to build a dominate O line, or they are just to cheap to actually pay a top LT. The very first thing Parcells did at Miami was draft a LT (Jake Long) to protect the QB. The Bills had a premier LT and they screwed it up, just like they screwed up by releasing Derrick Dockery when they could have traded him for a pick. Its kinda funny how the bad teams continually find a way to stay bad, no matter how hard they try they, keep shooting themselves in the foot.

All the no huddle does is limit substitutions by the defense, how on earth does it take away the opposing teams best pass rusher? In plain fact it doesn't and never will, the Bills will face the same players down after down and the idea is to keep the opposing team from switching defensive packages and players. It may help with not allowing defensive substitutions, which would limit teams from rotating the defensive linemen in and out. The fact is, if the O line can't handle the initial pass rush put on the field, then the no huddle is useless. The latter part of that bold statement is the most ridiculous thing I've read recently
-
A man has got to know his limitations, Walker understands he has been given a position he is not suited fill and it will surely make him look bad. The Dwight Freeney types will blow right by him and he knows it, So every Bills fan will be crying and saying he sucks, it is more of the fact that he is being put into a position to fail. It is what every NFL personnel man has been stating all off season, The Bills traded away their left tackle and then don't even try and replace him in the draft or free agency.

I was at that game also, not only did the fans have plastic trumpets, the guy behind me had a car battery with a diesel air horn, the nose was unbelievable. Thurman Thomas had the most incredible game I've ever seen, I can only liken it to the Kellen Winslow / Charger game at Miami. "The Epic in Miami" 1981 div playoff

I can recall the Bengals even faking injuries during that 88 Championship game to slow the Bills 2 min drill. Then there was that mysterious clock problem that went away after the Bills left the field. The Bills and Marv Levy didn't try and cheat to win games, like other teams have done, perhaps that was their downfall. The old adage, "if your not cheating, your not trying hard enough" Something Bill Belichick can tell you about.
-
I agree, I'll be happy when the Bills learn how to run the ball again. If you can't convert a 3rd and short running, you will not win many games, JMO. The Bills are still lacking a 3rd down back, a great blocking FB and TE. 3 words, protection, protection, protection. The reason Payton Manning is able to put up the numbers he does is because he is one of the least sacked QB's in the NFL. It is not just his quick release, the game plan or the passing scheme. It is the line calls and protection by the O line. '

Roscoe had his chance to step up when Josh Reed was hurt last year, he didn't. That is somewhat discouraging because that is the time to show your stuff. Josh Reed took several years to finally get good, Roscoe may just step up this year because of all the competition, who knows. -
Random, anonymous scout rips Maybin
thewildrabbit replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd have to think that if Maybin had started 3 years or more in college and put up the same numbers all 3 years he did last season he would have been the #1 overall, he has that much speed with that first step. But he is very raw and will need to learn so much at the NFL level. There were so many questions about his sudden weight gain from 230 at the end of the year to 249 at the combine, and the fact he only started one year at Penn St. 2. Aaron Maybin, Penn State 6-5, 249 Pre-Combine Position Rank: 2 Post-Combine Skinny: He was even more rangy then expected, measuring taller than originally listed. While his straight-line speed was fine, running a 4.88, he lit it up in the cone and shuttle drills. The explosion came through in the vertical (38") and broad jump (10'4"), but the 22 benches was a bit of a concern. Positives: Phenomenal athleticism … Can be used in a variety of ways on the outside. Tremendous quickness … Can cut on a dime. Negatives: Not all that big. At 245 pounds, he might be an outside linebacker … Needs to prove he can handle himself against power running teams … Needs a few more pass rush moves. http://cfn.scout.com/2/840503.html I still would have drafted Orakpo, I think he will tear apart the NFL in 2 years 1. Brian Orakpo, Texas 6-3, 263 Pre-Combine Position Rank: 1 Post-Combine Skinny: The Combine was a microcosm of everything Orakpo is, for good and bad. He was a terror at times running a 4.7, benching 225 pounds 31 times, and leaping over 39 inches, but he hurt his hamstring raising even more questions about his durability. Positives: Freakish combination of size and speed … Tremendous athlete. Unstoppable pass rusher with a variety of moves … Great burst. The offenses knew what was coming and still couldn’t stop him. Negatives: Durability concerns … Questions about motor. Great when it’s on. … Good run stopper, but he’s a pass rusher. -

Granted it is pure speculation on my part, I just don't see the Bills drafting him at #11 and not interrogating Poz thoroughly to find out what he was like in college. What he did off the field, who he hung out with and what kind of work ethic he possessed. I'd think they asked his coaches at Penn St the same type of questions, its just that another player might have a tendency to see more of what goes on outside the locker room. -

Fla St DE's are known to look great in college and stink at the NFL level. The guy I feel the Bills missed on was the RAK, Brian Orakpo, that guy is a monster. Mike Mayock stated he thinks Robert Ayers will be the best DE out of last years draft class. Three years from now we will know who the best is. -

It is clear the Bills took a big risk drafting Maybin, he might never develop into an NFL DE, perhaps a OLB though. That is an entirely different skill set and that is the reason Gholston feel on his face so hard, lots of undersized DE's in college simply can't make the transition to OLB in the NFL. Maybin does have that fast first step and can run the arc better then most, his speed off the line is what sets him apart. From what I've seen and read he has no moves to go with his speed, so if an O lineman gets his hands on him...its over. Plus him being undersized at DE won't help much with stopping the run. The upside on the guy can be great though, he could be another Dwight Freeney / Bruce Smith, that is saying a lot I know. I suppose we will all just need to wait and see how he develops. Anyway, the Poz must have given the Bills a glowing report on Maybin, most likely why the Bills took the risk and drafted him. -
How much will the no huddle offense help offset our

Go back a page or two and read my post on last years Ravens, they ran the ball to setup the pass and that is why their rookie QB did so well. Exactly what the Bills should have done with the veteran experienced O line last year, instead they underachieved and fell on their faces. The point about the NYG running game, the Bills stole Jim McNally from them to enhance the running game and it never did come to fruition. I think it has more to do with Tom Coughlin and his will to get the running game going then just an O line coach. You guys didn't see the fact that Schonert didn't even start using play action pass plays until the Cleveland game,it was constant shotguns or a run behind Peters, that was basically it! Peters was out of shape and didn't want to play in Buffalo and it showed. 'The bills were literally killing the Jets in the 4th QTR running the ball, they had just made a first down running the OC calls a play fake QB rollout...guess who missed his block, # 71 When the running game was killing the opponent, Marshawn Lynch had 134 yards on the ground by the end of the third QTR and Schonert stopped using him in the 4th, 49ers game I honestly think that with different coaches, HC-OC-O line coach that the Bills are in the playoffs last season. The talent was there, just not in the coaching staff. I'm not to keen on the conditioning coach either, Rusty Jones where have you gone? Ok I'll shut it now till the season starts, give your eyeballs a break from my bitching about the coaches
