No thanks, I'll take Tony Dungy ONLY if he comes with Bill Polian, the guy who drafted Payton Manning over Ryan Leaf and drafted all the superstars the Colts have had over the last 10 years. The guy (Dungy) was famous for the Tampa two defense, you know the one that Monte Kiffin invented, the ex DC of the Buc's. In its day and with great players the Tampa two was very effective. Currently, most all NFL team have moved away from it because of the glaring weakness in stopping the run, cept for tricky dick and da Bills.

In order to create room on the roster, the Titans released rookie quarterback Alex Mortensen and rookie cornerback Jeremy Haynes. Mortensen, son of ESPN analyst Chris Mortensen, threw two passes in Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game, one of which Buffalo’s Reggie Corner returned for a touchdown. Fisher joked that the younger Mortensen completed both his passes. “We just didn’t have a luxury of carrying him anymore. I told him, ‘It’s a great experience to be able to play in a game.’ We got him in the ballgame and he’s two-for-two with a touchdown, so he should be happy about that,” Fisher said. http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/spor...-returns-titans

It's not just the money he will make over 5-6 years of his first contract, its the guaranteed money. This kid came out this particular year after having played only one year as a starter because he wanted to get paid! He has the ability to TELL his agent to get it done and get him signed and get him into camp. The longer he stays away the less he will learn for this season, which means the less valuable he will be to the team this season.

Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem with Fisher

I love the fact that Fisher pulled Morts son right after he threw the pick six, it might be preseason, but Fisher still wants to win -

What planet are you from? In the 3 years (going on 4)he has been the Bills head coach, has Jauron had no influence on who is drafted, who is brought in by free agency? This entire team that was rebuilt by Greg Williams, then rebuilt by Mike Mularkey and now rebuilt by Jauron. The titans have those players because of Jeff Fisher, the Bills have their players because of Dick Jauron. I'd be willing to bet that Fisher could take this years Bills team and make the playoffs, after some modifications and trades. Jauron and Turk Schonert would take that Titans team and would have Kerry Collins killed and out for the season after 4 games, after that Vince young would be running for his life every play. Because they would stop doing what they do best at, and that is running the ball, Schonert would install the no huddle and try and force throws every down. When they finish with a losing season they will proclaim its because the team lacks talent! I'd take Jeff Fisher in a heartbeat over every current and past Bills coach other then Marv, in the 70's 80's 90's to current time -
You guys are all panicking because you watched the Bills play one of last years top offensive lines in the NFL? That's right, Tenn had one of, if not the best O lines in pro football last season. Collins was sacked once every 40 drop backs or so and not many teams kept Tenn from running the ball into the endzone from inside the 20 with smash and dash. They also had the best record in the NFL last season.Same starters returning only with a better blocking tight end. Not to mention it is the FIRST preseason game and the starting defense played 2 series, if they can't get close to Tom Brady in the opener, then yeah...they might have problems this season. I also think that even if the Bills manage to sign Maybin, he will have little or no impact this season. Why do you guys think he came out of Penn St after playing only one year as a starter, because he wants to get paid!!!!!! Every time I see a player holding out like this it makes me think that they are all about the money and not the love of the game, Crabtree is the same way. The Bills screwed themselves by letting Orakpo slip by them to the skins one pick later, who already signed, JMO So freaking relax for a few weeks and lets see how the team progresses heading towards the regular season.

OT Jon Runyan has been cleared to work out.
thewildrabbit replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was going to post something similar to this when I read that Andy Reid met Runyan at the funeral for their late DC, the two talked and it was stated he was going to bring Runyan back to Philly because OT Andrews still has back problems. The Bills would be wise to sign this player if for nothing else then for leadership and experience ( probably knows more then Kuglar) and insurance, in case one of Buffalo's current OT's can't get it done.*cough we already know cough* PS, the problem TO had in Philly was with McNabb and Reid, the other players loved the guy on their team! -

I had no problem with the play, if your gonna take a big chance on a fake punt then why not do it in preseason. I'll wager Bruce Smith wanted to strangle Fisher though, he stated he still feels that music city miracle play was a forward pass, I concur with Bruce. The Bills were robbed that game, but I suppose it makes up for the greatest comeback in NFL history, where Andre Reed stepped out of bounds on the touchdown pass. -
The thing is, Jauron is not that far away from being a decent coach. His teams seem to play hard for him, they really work at their jobs. His teams have the right attitude and make the effort needed to win. But, head coach is only as good as all his assistant coaches and the schemes they run, the Bills have some serious problems with the Tampa 2 and (Mike Martz) Schonert passing offense. The no huddle is only effective as long as the offense continues to make first downs, then it will limit substitutions and cause the defense to wear down. If the team can't make many first downs constantly trying to throw the ball and the QB has no time to throw, the no huddle is useless. If its November and its 20 degrees outside with 40 mph winds along with snow and Ice and the OC is still calling constant passing plays 'hoping" to get a first down, when the team should be running the ball. Jauron continues to build the secondary and make the passing defense stronger, which seems kind of pointless considering opposing teams can beat the Bills by simply running at them, a big flaw of the Tampa 2.

Bend but don't break (Our D's mantra)

This years defense might be better in the secondary, but who will throw on Buffalo when they can easily win by running the ball. Then again Brady will still have a field day in the Pats home opener, between Moss, Welker and now Joey Galloway, the Bills will be lucky to keep the score under 50. -

The first string defense gave up the second TD, against the run. Dunno what defense you were watching but the one I was watching stunk, 2 missed tackles on that play that allowed White to get the TD from 3 yds out. Tenn passed the ball to the Bills 20 yd line and then 3 runs later went into the end zone... oh yea, good defense -
pls share whatever your high on...

Lets not forget one thing, Tenn had the best record in the NFL last season, the Bills played a very veteran experienced team in the first few series. Stating that, The Bills had an extra week to prepare their players for that game and yet they couldn't stop Tenn in the red zone, the run defense looked horrid again, not much change from last season. Levitre was pushed back 6 yards into Trent Edwards by a back up DT and Edwards couldn't step into his throw, which caused the INT, Imagine what Albert Haynsworth would have done, O line still has serious issues. The Bills failed to get the ball in the end zone once they got close, so they still have trouble with the red zone offense and they will kick field goals rather then score a TD. This offense shows me what I've been worrying about all off season, the Bills on 4th and one still try and throw inside the 20,they did it against the Titans. The OC will always want to throw the ball over running it, the run game will suffer because the OC simply refuses to find ways to get the run game going. Different year, same crap

It's not just him, it is his staff that is lacking as well. The OC has proven to be lacking in simple play calling, considering the defenses he faced and the fact he kept calling passing plays against nickle and dime defenses.During some games It appeared to me that last season he kept calling passing plays irregardless of who was on the field for the opposing defense or which QB he had throwing the ball,he was going to make the passing game work no matter what. Now you expect him to be able to analyze the opposing teams defense and make the proper adjustments...doubtful.

Take it to the bank that the Tampa 2 defense will get run on... I could really care less about White and Johnson, AKA smash and dash. They won't play the entire game and even if they rushed for 500 yards it won't matter, it doesn't count. I'm more interested in watching the O line protect Edwards then the run defense, which I know will stink.

Couldn't have said it better. The only NFL team I root for each week during the NFL season is the Buffalo Bills and 7-9 doesn't make me very happy, and never will. The Bills have been rebuilding for 10 years because the owner keeps trying to find a head coach that will work for wages at the bottom of the wage scale. The Bills also have difficulty bringing in players because of the team history of Ralph Wilson's frugality. Last season the Bills made an offer for future HoF tight end Tony Gonzalez of the KC Chiefs, they accepted but he turned down the offer and remained in KC for whatever reason. That one move showed me that the Bills FO have the right frame of mind in trying to build a winning team as Gonzalez would have given Trent Edwards an unbelievable receiver in a position that was one of their weakest. So they recognize the fact that they desperately needed to improve the receiving corp. Gonzalez might have changed the outcome of last years 7-9 finish to a winning record, perhaps even a playoff spot,I believe that. So, as bad as the team played in certain areas last season they are only a few positions away from becoming a very good team. Then this season they managed to trade away their only pro bowl player and not even try to replace him in free agency or the draft, which is puzzling. Then they completely revamp the entire O line and change every position, losing all continuity. That stated, how can anyone predict a bright year for the Bills after a complete O line rebuild? Not to mention, losing Greer-Crowell-Peters and the Bills still lack a good tight end and fullback. Then there is the fact that DJ will only hire experienced defensive coaches and promotes offensive coaches from within the team, like he is afraid to bring in a bright offensive mind. I see changes on the team that I don't approve of and come to this forum to vent my frustration about those changes, and because I think the Bills will have difficulty even making 7-9 this season from those changes.

Different takes on training camp

I just thought I'd let everyone know what they don't
thewildrabbit replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not to concerned on how well the O line plays in training camp or even preseason, its when the footballs start flying in Foxborough that will have me worried. The world will see how the Bills O line plays at the HoF game against Tenn Titans, they won't be able to hide anything against a good Titan defense. If the Bills coaches have a lick of sense they will not show anything but vanilla passing plays and constant runs to the back up RBs, maybe let Trent work in one series in the 3rd QTR. HoF game, Sunday Aug 9th... getting close
