Very revealing Gaughan article
thewildrabbit replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Baltimore Ravens run a 3-4 defense, per se. Suggs lines up on the line of scrimmage and yet he is a linebacker that plays with one hand down, they say they run a 3-4 and Suggs is a LB so they don't have to pay him DE money, but the Ravens really run a 4 man line most of the time. -
Someone the Bills might actually be able to afford, that is IF they can talk him out of retirement. The opposite of tricky dick, Martyball Marty Schottenhiemer is an extreame motivator, his last job he was fired after taking that PoS losing Charger team that Eli manning refused to play for to 14-2. Plus the guy knows what coaches to hire, he had Wade Phillips as his DC and Cam Cameron as his OC. I'll take 14-2 over 7-9 any day

We won't know what kind of team we have til week 9
thewildrabbit replied to Tcali's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What a load of BS, if the Bills get pounded by the Patriots in week one, we will all know what to expect the rest of the season. On the other hand IF they pull off a miracle and beat the Patriots, then your point might be valid. But after watching the Bills and Edwards play against that Packers 3-4, I doubt they will even keep the game close at NE. -
The Packers are a GOOD team, they will do well this season and might make the playoffs. I wonder how the Bills will play when they face a great team this season. The Packers were bringing the heat every play it seemed, the new DC wanting to show the changes to that defense. Last week the Bills faced a defense that they see every day in camp, the Bears style of Tampa 2. The Bills got their first taste of a 3-4 defense, and they get another taste next week against the Steeler's. The final week will be against Detroit and they should have a decent showing against them. I can only hope the Bills O lines does a better job against the Steeler's, because as of now the Patriots, who should be a great team this year, are going to steamroll right through that Bills O line.

Is coaching the reason for a culture of losing?
thewildrabbit replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree with the last statement concerning "systems" the no huddle just means they will employ the same passing scheme, just at a quicker tempo and not huddling. It is the same crappy offense they have had for years from what I've seen. -
Some of you think the Bills are a mess?
thewildrabbit replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marv Levy said. "Coaches have arguments all the time. Seems to me this might just give that head coach some added respect by his players, much the same way the Mike Ditka and breaking his hand on the wall did for the Bears. Unless Cable has a rap sheet and or has a history of violence he won't see any jail time, my guess is this is his first offense so he will get a wrist slap by the local judge, and probation. I'll bet Rodger Goodell will hit him with some sort of suspension if found guilty, what will he care if it inspires his team to get to the playoffs, which is what happened with Ditka and the Bears. -

Lane Kiffen had problem with that exact same assistant coach and wanted him fired,Al Davis said no because from what I've read he is Al's inside man on the coaching staff. In other words, the guy is a RAT. Anyway, dunno about you but I'd be pretty pissed if I found out someone was talking crap to my boss about me, behind my back. Mike Ditka punched a concrete wall so hard he broke his hand during a team meeting... Mike Singletary drops his trousers during a half time talk... WR Steve Smith punched another players and hurt him badly,Bill Romanowski spit on players and punched a player and hurt him, both players were sued and lost. Even the Bills best head coach in their history used to be fiery on the sidelines, You "over officious jerk! " made me laugh. Like I said, lets see where this takes him. -

All I gotta say is that Marv Levy had some assistant coaches who brawled it out in a training class one year, can't recall who though. Special teams coach and D line coach over blocking schemes and what players the will utilize in kickoff coverages? It just seems to me that you would want coaches, players with a competitive fire on your pro football team. I would really like to see some fire in ole Dickeys eyes for once,or even in his voice. The Chin, out on the sidelines yelling at players at the top of his lungs and spittle flying out of his mouth, cursing out a player who missed a key assignment, then goes over and pats him and says get it right next time....YEAH BABY! The Tuna giving his rookie CB the nickname "toast" because he misses so many coverages, always fighting with his QB and making him focus on assignments....YEAH BABY! You can look at the Raiders as dysfunctional... or you can look at them and say, that head coach has fire inside, lets see where it takes him. -

If it's all about the QB,why didn't the Bills win that first super bowl against the NYGiants, Jeff Hosttetler was the better QB? Why didn't Dan Fouts, Dan Marino or Fran Tarkington ever win a super bowl? It's a TEAM game, its not just the QB, it's everything! Coaching, players, scheme's and some luck. Jauron has had so many chances to field a playoff team with the Bills In his first year the Bills are desperate for a safety so he drafts Donte Whitner who was rated as the 56th best player at #11 = fail He trades up for McCargo and drafts a guy everyone else thought would go in the 4th round with a first round pick =fail He brings in two very expensive O linemen in free agency who play so poorly it makes their best O linemen want more money because he finds himself as the lowest paid pro bowler in the NFL = fail To add to that, instead of paying the guy they trade him, and instead of drafting a new young OT stud they replace him with a guard in the draft=fail Jauron loses his offensive coordinator, who was on the verge of getting lynched by fans anyway and then replaces him with an understudy who runs the same crappy scheme= fail How many chances does the guy need to get it right? It looks to me like he needs to continually change the players HE drafts or brings in as free agents. It looks to me like Jauron fails because he really doesn't have the skills of a top NFL head coach= 7-9= lucky, as its tough to win in the NFL, just ask Bill Belichick -
Who would you have picked at #11,
thewildrabbit replied to Peace Frog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For your information Vernon Gholtson plays hard and gives 100% effort... he is having big time problems switching from DE in college to OLB in the NFL. Most DE's that are moved to OLB tend to have difficulty with coverages and gap assignments. Also, he will most likely be making more impact in the NFL this year then *show me the money* Maybin will. -

Da Rak I agree, it's why the Redskins didn't wait more then 30 seconds to grab him after the Bills passed on him. From what I've seen of him he is a monster on the field, nobody could stop the guy in college. He had injury and motor questions though, but still he was the highest rated pass rusher on most boards. I think the Bills drafted another Mike Williams in Maybin, that guy is all about getting paid and getting the most money asap. I didn't like him at #11 and his stance on holding out confirms my thoughts. Most people were thinking Michael Oher to Buffalo once all the other OT's were taken and since Peters was traded away that selection seemed to make sense. At this point with training camp over, Maybin will be lucky to play at all this season, he has lost so much he could have learned. -

Your post was a rumor,my post is fact -
The team confirmed a deal was done to The Associated Press, but terms were not immediately disclosed. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=txvi...t&type=lgns And he plans to play in the next preseason game http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/...g-friday-night/

I don't mind people standing, in the back row where they can't obstruct someone else s view. It is kinda like the moron who wears a gigantic hat and thinks its cool... have some courtesy and remove the hat during the game. Perhaps it is the moron who likes to get wasted at a game and offend everyone around him except the other drunks.

How will Billicheck stop the no huddle?
thewildrabbit replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Glanville was indeed a very colorful head coach, he used to leave game tickets every game for Elvis at the teams will call booth. He used to drive around on a Harley Davidson motercycle and would always dress in black clothes, he is the one who termed the NFL logo as the "not for long". Don't forget he drafted Brett Farve and used to kid him and make fun of him by calling him Mississippi, stating to him that 4 guys needed to be injured before he would play. To bad for Jerry, smart enough to draft him, just not smart enough to use him. I only mentioned him because he used to be a defensive coordinator and went on to be the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, he took them to the playoffs one year. His use of the Gritz Blitz didn't get him fired, it was just a really stupid idea that backfired and gave the opposing offense a chance to make big plays from vacated coverages. All the QB needed to have was 3 seconds to hit any receiver who could take it in for a touchdown. My point, pass rush isn't everything. -
Raiders Head Coach Assaults Assistant
thewildrabbit replied to Bad Lieutenant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone recall the altercation on Marv's staff, Marv downplayed it to the media but it was still pretty big news. One coach punched out another coach in a meeting room, can't recall the names. Might have been Chuck Dickerson who was later fired by Marv for his remarks about the Redskins O line before the super bowl, which prompted them to post it on their wall in the locker room and gave them the edge to play better. Their big and ugly and they stink? -
Some Observations About The Game.
thewildrabbit replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some things to take into consideration, 1st, Da Bears run a similar Tampa / cover 2 defense as Buffalo, so the Bills offense have seen it every day in camp, Its a 4-3 defense as well. Plus the Bears defense didn't get into Trent's face like the titans did. They ran simple defense and didn't switch anything to stop the Bills passing game, normally a defense will make adjustments to stop whatever your attacking them with. The Bills starting defense didn't get much pressure on the Bears QB either, which is not good. On the other hand, the play calling was much much better,Turk called a really good game. If Schonert continues to call plays like that every game I'll be forced to stop complaining about him. Heck, the Bills might even win some games this year. The offense didn't run the ball as well as hoped, and tight end continues to be a huge concern. -

thewildrabbit replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are correct, but what if its weak against the run and the secondary is so horrid that they can't cover anyone, what then? Jerry Glanville invented a rush called the "gritz blitz" where the entire defense all rushed the passer at the snap of the ball, needless to say he is no longer a head coach in the NFL. What John Lynch was saying is that the Tampa 2, or cover 2 is very good with a good pass rush, it is weak against the run and not so good if you can't put pressure on the QB. You know, kinda what the Bills pass rush looks like most games. -

I watched the preseason game as well, with the Buc's vs Tenn and John Lynch was in the broadcast booth, he stated the Tampa 2 is a great defense provided you have a great pass rush... So Yea, the Bills could use a Warren sap and Simeon Rice, along with LB Derrick Brooks, S John Lynch and CB Ronde Barber. -
Not much the FO can do if Maybin and his agent are being greedy

Doomsday outcome for the season.
thewildrabbit replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After what I saw during the first preseason game, you guys are being way to optimistic right now. 8-8 or 7-9 no way. Week 1 Mon, Sep 14 @ New England Patriots 7:00PM (ET) L Week 2 Sun, Sep 20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4:05PM (ET) W Week 3 Sun, Sep 27 New Orleans Saints 4:05PM (ET) L Week 4 Sun, Oct 04 @ Miami Dolphins 4:05PM (ET) L Week 5 Sun, Oct 11 Cleveland Browns 1:00PM (ET) W Week 6 Sun, Oct 18 @ New York Jets 4:15PM (ET) L Week 7 Sun, Oct 25 @ Carolina Panthers 4:05PM (ET) L Week 8 Sun, Nov 01 Houston Texans 1:00PM (ET) L Week 9 Sun, Nov 08 BYE Week 10 Sun, Nov 15 @ Tennessee Titans 1:00PM (ET) L Week 11 Sun, Nov 22 @ Jacksonville Jaguars 1:00PM (ET) L Week 12 Sun, Nov 29 Miami Dolphins 1:00PM (ET) L Week 13 Thu, Dec 03 New York Jets (Toronto) 8:20PM (ET) W Week 14 Sun, Dec 13 @ Kansas City Chiefs 1:00PM (ET) W Week 15 Sun, Dec 20 New England Patriots 1:00PM (ET) L Week 16 Sun, Dec 27 @ Atlanta Falcons 1:00PM (ET) L Week 17 Sun, Jan 03 Indianapolis Colts 1:00PM (ET) L I'd say if they continue to look as bad as they did against the titans, then 4-12 and Jauron will be lucky to survive the season. It is tough to win in the NFL, the Bills will be lucky to steal a win... -
Watch Payton Manning and the Colts sometime, they rarely huddle up and the offense hurries to the LoS and he starts barking audibles using the complete clock sometimes to confuse the defense. He can change the play depending on what defense he see's, or just bark out nothing to make the defense even more confused. If anyone were ever a field general, its Payton Manning. As another poster sorta stated, the no huddle really depends on each linemen knowing and understanding each call and read to be ready to block their man when the ball snaps, it takes time and that fabled word "Continuity", which the Bills currently don't appear to have much right now,but it is only the first preseason game.
-
Both the Patriots and Eagles were using the no huddle with starters in last nights preseason game. Brady played the first half and looked good throwing to Moss and Gallaway, they also have another Wes Welker clone in WR Julian Edelman.

Old pros, Brady & McNabb play a half...
thewildrabbit replied to Billistic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They want Edwards completely rested by the opener so is at full strength to run for his life with fresh legs Seriously, Jauron doesn't want the starting QB to knocked out for the season in the first preseason game because of an untested, and completely rebuilt O line.
