This is why the Ravens suck.
thewildrabbit replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is not just the players, one of the first things Harbough did as head coach was to hire the best offensive coordinator he could find. Cam Cameron was the OC for that 14-2 Charger team with Schottenheimer as HC, now he built a great power running game in Baltimore that really helped their rookie QB do well. The Ravens could very well win the super bowl this year, then I suppose everyone will wake up and notice what a great team and coaches they have. -
Langston Walker released/Kirk Chambers re-signed

Since I don't expect Trent Edwards to live more then 4 games before he is blindsided into the ground, who should the Bills go after with that #1 overall pick? -
Langston Walker released/Kirk Chambers re-signed
thewildrabbit replied to Warren Zevon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like I stated in an earlier post, Vic Carucci on the radio after the lion game had stated that Walker had gotten beaten almost every play. His release just means the Bills want to save money again, perhaps they have another linemen they want to bring in as there are a few good veteran free agents out there. Some of those are coming off injury plagued seasons so how reliable would they be? So, logically you would think that since the Bills are now saving money on Walker they can go get some expensive FA OT, some of this teams moves defy logic though. -
It all starts at the top...

Perhaps my memory is playing with me again, but I seem to recall ESPN having camera's some years later in Thurman Thomas's house as he waited in agony to be drafted in the second round, and not the first round. -

I knew where Kelly grew up and where his parents lived. I knew he played played his college ball at the U. I also know that he was drafted by the Chicago Blitz in round 14 of the 83 USFL on Jan 4-5. The Bills didn't draft until April of that year. Funny that Dan Marino was the first player taken in that USFL draft and the last QB taken in the first round of the NFL draft. Kelly was drafted by Chicago and traded to the new expansion Houston Gamblers for the team's 1st, 3rd, 8th and 10th round picks in the 1984 USFL. I also know he was offered 3.5 million for 5 years and a one million dollar signing bonus with the Gamblers. I realize it was 26 years ago and as an avid Bills fan even during the horrific pre Levy years I used to watch lots of college ball and the NFL draft to see what players could help Buffalo. I could be wrong, but I thought I remembered ESPN covering Jim Kelly when he heard the news he was drafted by the Bills, on his couch at his home /apt in Houston, it could have been at his parents home in Pa though. Kelly put his hands over his face and got up and walked out of the cameras view. Later on I read that he had actually cried about getting drafted by the Bills. It seems to me that Pittsburgh can get just about as snowy and cold as Buffalo so the not wanting to play for the Bills because of the cold didn't really fly with me. Perhaps he was just upset he didn't get taken by the Steelers, his dream was to play for Pittsburgh, but it is also made me think of the Tom Cousineau incident. A quote from Armed and Dangerous, Jim Kelly's book- "Buffalo would have 2 chances and I was praying they'd pass on me both times, everything I have ever heard about the team and city was negative" If I'm wrong about the ESPN/house in Houston statement please forgive me, as my memory is not as good as it once was. Anyway you got a good laugh from it, so it can't be all bad. -
Offense: Unstable foundation forced simplification?
thewildrabbit replied to Pitta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two rookies on the O line, a new center and completely rebuilt line and the OC wants complex plays, formations and protections. All I did most of last year was complain about Turk "shotgun" Schonert and how he would keep calling 5-7 step drop passing plays with a 2nd string QB in the game and the opposing defense dropping into dime coverages. He was going to force the plays to work no matter what. The guy was a moron and the Bills are so much better off without him. -
Relationship between Schonert and Trent
thewildrabbit replied to Kiwi Bills fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most of you guys are freaking out over this move of Jauron firing Schonert, I went nuts when I heard the news. This is the best thing Jauron has done in his 4 years IMO. JP Losman had a really good end of 06 and many predicted a break out year for him in 07, now Turk Schonert became his QB coach in 06 and took over as offensive coordinator after Steve Fairchild left at the end of 07. Instead of progressing JP badly regressed in 07-08 to looking absolutely horrid at the end of 08. Most players usually improve with good coaching, so this chain of events the last few years leads me to believe the coaching has been lacking, even worse the players regressed badly, first JP and now Edwards. AVP may not be the best guy for the job, but it seems like he will fill the job and do better then Schonert. He has some play calling experience as he called plays in NFL Europe. Plus his ego can't be anywhere near as bad as Schonert's was. Before we start running around saying the sky is falling, give AVP a chance to see what happens on Monday night. He can't do any worse then what Schonert did in the preseason, and if he does I'm certain he won't keep the job long. -
What is a shame is that AVP is not going to have enough time to actually make changes to the offense, he has no time as the season is about to start. This offense really needs some big time changes too, Parish never seems to get the ball in space, for a possession receiver Josh Reed seems to never be open. Once Lee Evans gets double covered he is gone from catching anything... Not having a really good receiving tight end is hurting the offense...not having a really good blocking tight end is hurting the run game. Let's hope that TO can draw enough coverage to him so that other receivers can get open
-
IF Trent Edwards continues to play like he did this preseason the Bills would be wise to bring in an experienced veteran, to late to get Vick or Farve. If I were Dick Jauron I take a long hard look at Jeff Garcia because if he can play like he did in Philly and Tampa he could really really help this offense. Let's see what the Bills do against the Patriots, If Edwards struggles...Fitz and Hamden are not the answer IMO The way the O line looks the Bills will need a scrambling QB and if he can get along with TO... Garcia played well in the West Coast offense, who knows how he will perform in the Bills po dunk offense.

Predictions for the season?
thewildrabbit replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most of you guys are waaaaayyyy to optimistic about this season. If you listened to Vic Carucci on the radio after the Lions game he stated that Langston Walker was beaten almost every play. I think the play calling should be limited to runs, screens, rollouts and any passes that take less then 3.5 seconds to develop, Jauron wants an attack style(big play?) offense and I just don't see that happening with the current O line. 2 wins at the most at the bye week, and see what happens at that point when the team is 2-6 -
Is Jauron really the O's Problem?
thewildrabbit replied to barbwire's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From what I've heard his buddy Chris Collinsworth say about Schonert is that he has a huge ego, and what I took from what he had said was, Turks way or the highway... There has to be a logical reason for Trents Edwards decline this pre season, I'm now thinking that Schonert was making everything to complex for everyone. -
Is Jauron really the O's Problem?
thewildrabbit replied to barbwire's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Jauron did say this to Schonert, then Jauron is smarter then I gave him credit for... You know what the first thing Bill Parcells does when he takes over a team, he limits the offensive formations and throws out about all the offensive plays except for around 15-20 or so. This young team has 2 rookie lineman and has been totally rebuilt, the very last thing they need is to learn a very complex offensive scheme, complex formations and protections. Simplify and be repetitious so these young and new plays will have a chance at competing against some hard nosed experienced vets this season. Cheers to Jauron if he can get the offense going and give Trent Edwards some much needed confidence. -
BREAKING NEWS: SCHONERT FIRED

It is why his players love him, willing to take the heat for another persons mistake. Schonert calls the plays, Schonert made that call IMO. -
It all starts at the top...
thewildrabbit replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My entire point in posting this was to show that Ralph Wilson chose to hire Stew Barber to represent the Buffalo Bills as the General Manager. His actions were widely known throughout the league and it reflected upon the team. So when I state that Jim Kelly cried on his living room couch in Houston upon learning he had been drafted by the Buffalo Bills, the same team that had refused to match an offer by the CFL to a player a few years earlier, causing said player to shun Buffalo's offer and head north to the CFL. Is it an invention of mine to think that Kelly would rather play for the USFL then for the Buffalo Bills because of the Tom Cousineau incident? -
Oh your history is different from mine, Montana did in fact make it back to the super bowl and won it with KC, without Jerry Rice I'm actually kind of proud you put that quote in you're sig, it really does show others what a total fool you are. It states the truth and your twisted little mind can only see what it wants to see. If you go back and look at EVERYTHING in that paragraph. Montana also had a great team around him with the best receiver to ever play the game in Jerry Rice. Arguably the best ever head coach in Bill Walsh, who invented a great offense that is still used by the vast majority of teams today.Great teams make players look great, Montana didn't fair so well in KC after he left SF, he never made it back to the super bowl without Jerry Rice. Did you happen to miss the statement about Bill Walsh, or just choose to ignore it or over look it like you usually do with other posts. Bill Walsh and the west coast offense made Joe Montana great, not the other way around. Let's not forget that the 49ers dumped him for Steve Young and went on to win another super bowl in that Bill Walsh system. Go read up on what Steve Young did for the 49ers AFTER he left Tampa Bay, post some Steve Young stats. Bill Walsh's coaching tree has 28 current and former NFL coaches in it, The west coast offense is still very widely used throughout the NFL. Lastly, If Joe Montana had played for Detroit or the Cardinals in the 80's the guy would have become just another obscure has-been. Steve young went 2-14 in his two years with Tampa Bay and then went on to a brilliant career in San Fran with that Bill Walsh offense and Jerry Rice. PS, you don't know it is a team game, you constantly blame the QB without taking other things into consideration, making wild statements you are totally full of crap about. Stating that the QB can't see open receives even after the teams OC states there were no open receivers once opposing teams doubled Lee Evans.

BREAKING NEWS: SCHONERT FIRED

Charlie Casserly would get my vote as well, about the only guy I actually listen to on pre game shows. He would need to have enough power to pick the right coach and not some Costco / Walmart bargain basement no nothing. -
good lord, please no

This move tells me that Ralph Wilson isn't going to tolerate losing much longer, If that doesn't excite you as a Bills fan...then nothing will. -
BREAKING NEWS: SCHONERT FIRED
thewildrabbit replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With Jauron stating that he fired Turk Schonert and it was his decision reminds me of that rollout call in the Jets game last season that Jauron took credit for... It was Wilson. Which means that should the Bills falter and lose some games, other jobs might be lost Schottenheimer and Shanahan are both currently unemployed. Hey, I can dream can't I. -
You mention in this and other posts of yours that Trent has all sorts of wide open receivers that he doesn't see and checks down instead. After last season, the now FIRED Turk Schonert stated in the Buffalo news that the passing offense failed because once opposing teams doubled Lee Evans it shut down the passing game. The Bills OC comes out and states the problem was the lack of a decent receiver opposite Lee Evans and yet you continue to blame the QB. That moron of a OC was fired because all he did was call 5-7 step drops and wanted to make the deep passing game work irregardless of what the opposing team was doing on defense. 5-7 step drops usually take 4-5 seconds to develop, the Bills O line simply can't give that much time to Trent to even complete most passes. Trying to argue a point with you is senseless, you're about as narrow minded and dense a person as I've met on this board. Keep blaming the QB and not the receivers, not the offensive line, not the coaching. I suppose the next thing you will tell me is how great Jauron is,,, You may have gone to college, I highly doubt you learned much.
-
I don't care where you played college ball, you seem so enamored by it that it makes you think you're superior to every other poster, get over yourself SKOOBY. I think Joe Montana is one of the greatest QB's ever, it is just that he didn't achieve that acclaim by himself. Considering you played some college football it amazes me that you just don't get the TEAM concept. Would Joe M have made it into the HoF playing for Arizona or Detroit? Like I stated, he went downhill after he parted from Bill Walsh and Jerry Rice.

BREAKING NEWS: SCHONERT FIRED
thewildrabbit replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not in my book, Schonert was a moron who called the plays he wanted irregardless of who the QB was. I'll never forget that 49er game last season. Marshawn tearing the niners a new one with 135+ yards by the end of the 3rd QTR and Schonert tries to make JP win the game by throwing into a constant nickle / dime defense's. The 49ers didn't blitz and only rushed with 4 and dropped into coverage. Schonert panicked just the same way he used to panic when he actually played QB now and again, instead of his real job of holding a clipboard. I just hope AVP does a better job, If not, no biggie ...because Jauron will go soon also. I can't stop day dreaming about Ralph Wilson hiring Mike Shanahan or Marty Schottenheimer, either of those two would help this offense so dramatically. -
BREAKING NEWS: SCHONERT FIRED
thewildrabbit replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The story Adam Schefter is reporting is that RW was at the game with Detroit and made the decision to replace Schonert. Marcellus Wiley who played his first 4 years in the NFL with the Bills chimed in and stated that there is a precedence for RW doing this type of thing. He stated that Wilson put in a call to Wade Phillips to start Rob Johnson over Doug Flutie in that playoff game against Tenn. -
BREAKING NEWS: SCHONERT FIRED
thewildrabbit replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you listened to Chris Collingsworth talk about Schonert and his big ego in everything he does, football, the golf course. I came away with the impression that Schonert does things his way and that's it. He had this huge ego and wasn't interested in teaching his players, more of making them do what he wanted. That is just my impression and have no actual proof. However I did watch the way JP finished the 06 season, very strongly, and was supposed to impress for the 07 season. Instead he fell on his face completely and horribly, his QB coach was Turk Schonert. So then fairchild leaves at the end of 07 and he is replaced with Schonert. Trent Edwards this pre season seems to be regressing the same way that JP did in 07, maybe I'm wrong But let's see if Edwards improves under AVP. I'm hoping this OC will actually try and run the ball more to set up the passing game.
