Trent Edwards - Where do you stand?
thewildrabbit replied to MURTR's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills had a great offensive game plan for the Patriots, and yet failed badly against the Saints. They knew Greg Williams was going to bring the heat, and he did...all game long. It bothers me to say it but AVP failed to compensate correctly and adjust with more draws and quick screens. If the DE's are coming full speed then you work to run to the spot they vacated. He is young and learning as he goes, hopefully he will get better. I'd get TO into the game plan way more then he is,with end arounds, line him up in the slot, play him at tight end, reverse, double reverse, fake reverse. That guy should be touching the ball at least 12- 15 times a game, or more. He is still the best play maker on the Bills roster, not getting TO the ball is plain stupid. Your paying the guy 6 mill a year, let him earn it !!!! -
good point... Why would Gruden come to Buffalo to start rumors when he could go to Detroit and talk to the man himself. Nobody in the Bills front office besides Wilson has the power to hire and fire the head coach. Gruden is a hit on MNF,better then anyone they have had in a long while. Why would he leave midway through the season and break a contract? I don't see Wilson paying Gruden what he would require to be the Bills head coach, I just don't see Wilson pulling the trigger until the bye week. SKOOBY?

The "fans", aka "media" also wanted Dan Henning gone, to bad they didn't realize it also meant that Levy would leave with him -

I disagree, Coaching is everything in my opinion, you could field the greatest players and still lose every game if they are not coached properly. The super bowl trophy is named after a coach for a reason, not a player, owner or simply named the NFL trophy. Although the Bills defense might have been helped somewhat by Joey Porter, the offense would have still suffered by some horrible play calls. I feel that if Jauron had fired Turk Schonert prior to the 08 season and AVP was calling the plays last season, the Bills would have won at least 3-4 more games IMO. For some reason I get the feeling that I'm about the only one that actually realizes the importance and impact of the firing of Schonert had on this team, I rejoiced when I heard that bit of news. Bad coaches can screw up a team just as easily as bad players. -

Las Vegas is making book that the Bills will not win 7 games this season, and everybody seems to be taking the under. Should the Bills finish with a winning record or actually attain a playoff spot, it will surprise most of the population. That said, I think the Bills have shown marked improvement since preseason and the firing of Schonert. It remains to be seen on what they can accomplish before the bye week. I made a post about the Bills winning 2 games before the bye week and Edwards getting carried off the field by week four. That was all before AVP took over as the Bills OC and the play calling changed dramatically , I'm now almost optimistic about the Bills winning more the 7 games this season. Although, I'll reserve judgment until they actually win a divisional game. -

Perhaps this has something to do with it? This was written and posted on Sept 25 08 The national debt was about $5.7 trillion when Bush took office in January 2001. Today, after almost eight years and a couple of wars, the debt has risen to about $9.7 trillion. http://www.2theadvocate.com/opinion/29726059.html The max limit on the ND WAS 10.6 Trillion in 08, it is now at 11.4 Trillion and clicking at 3.88 million a day.The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $3.88 billion per day since September 28, 2007! -

Sorry, but I have to disagree with that statement. I blame a coach for last seasons poor QB play at times, and its not Jauron. The difference between Schonert and Alex Van Pelt is like night and day, all I did last season was complain about the formations and play calls. Edwards was out injured in the 2nd Jets game with that JP roll out and the second half of the 49ers game and the play calls were the difference in those losses, two among many. I think that AVP could have gotten much better results if he were the OC last season, play calling can be the difference between a decent team and a great team, in my opinion. -
Gotta be the new rule changes. For 08. April directed the Bills special teams to a number one ranking in the NFL in 2008 to mark the third time in the past five years as compiled by Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News and was named to the Coach of Year Award as voted on by his peers and initiated by Ray and Rob Pelfrey, the founders of Professional Kicking Services. http://www.buffalobills.com/team/coaches/b...fc-3ac22b2cfd3f

I've always said I liked DicK Jauron as a person, my problem with him has been his choice of coordinators with the Bills. Turk Schonert was a total waste of a season last year. He might have said the right things to get the job, he surely didn't show he knew what he was doing game after game. I think the guy actually ruined JP, and was on his way to destroying Edwards confidence before he was fired. Best move Jauron has done so far IMO. AVP actually looks like he knows how to get a QB and O line lacking confidence into a game and be productive. Great play calling so far, very impressed with AVP. I voted for Bush, didn't vote for Obama, wish I could switch those votes around now. -
I'll admit, I had very little faith in the complete rebuilding of the offensive line this off season and stated my concern openly on this board. The line appears to have gotten better with the newer younger players, and the no huddle is working. I think a lot has to do with AVP calling the plays instead of Schonert, it just goes to show what a difference one coach can make.

Amen I noticed that Freddy appeared to tire in the 4th qtr, RB's take such a beating every game it is a good thing the Bills have two really good backs in Lynch and Jackson.

The thing is, with TO injured during the preseason it also hampered Edwards and TO rapport and ability to sense and understand each others nuances. A good example of this is that the Patriots added 14 year veteran WR Joey Galloway in the off season and although he is listed as the 3rd receiver on the depth chart, he has yet to make any big catches. Tom Brady and Galloway have yet to get on the same page and he played the entire preseason with Brady throwing to him. Stating that, it might take a few weeks for both Edwards and TO to get into sync, where Edwards can feel comfortable throwing to TO. Hopefully, the sooner the better
-
Your never going to get him to stop arguing his opinions no matter how lame they are, he thinks that Lee Evans is a top 5 receiver and yet he can't seem to beat double coverage. I dunno why he states that Edwards is constantly not seeing the wide open receivers, like he has game tape he breaks down and KNOWS Edwards is doing this. I'm fairly certain if Edwards were indeed not seeing wide open receivers that the coaches would have moved to replace him in the off season. This seems to be his particular delusion, along with his statements like ask any OC DC in the NFL, as if he actually converses with some, SKOOBY 2. It never occurs to him that perhaps the Bills offensive coordinator (Schonert) was correct when he stated that double coverage shut down Evans and the Bills deep passing game last season. Funny how that never stopped Schonert from calling constant 5-7 step drop passing plays, to bad he never adjusted it to make Edwards have success as AVP did. To me Trent Edwards would be a perfect fit in a west coast passing offense IMO, I'm only guessing here but I'd think that is what he learned while at Stanford. Schonert also stated the Bills lacked a big time receiving threat opposite Lee Evans to help take coverages away, that leads me to believe that Parrish and Reed are not getting the job done in single coverage. It is why I stated I'd like to see both of them sit while giving Steve Johnson a chance. Now that the Bills have TO on the other side of Evans the Bills should have a much improved down field passing game, no excuses now.Although it might take some time for TO and Edwards to get on the same page. An example of this is how veteran WR Joey Galloway and Tom Brady are struggling to build a rapport, and TO was injured in the preseason, so perhaps it may take a few weeks. The Buccaneers seem to be coming to Buffalo at the perfect time to test the deep game, Tony Romo burned that Buc secondary big time last week, Edwards should be able to do the same to some extent. Hopefully TO and Edwards will hook up a ton in this game.

I'd say the play calling was great compared to what Schonert used to call, they guy couldn't stop using the shotgun and kept calling for deep passing plays which take 4 or more seconds to develop and Roscoe,Evans and Reed never seemed to be open. Besides the fact that Edwards didn't often have 4+ seconds to throw the ball. AVP called plays that allowed Edwards to get rid of the ball quickly, instead of trying to find an open receiver deep down field, which helped negate the Patriots pass rush to some degree. Edwards doesn't throw a lot of interceptions, which is a good thing! I'd rather he take the dump off if he can't find an open receiver. Some people on this board declare Edwards to slow to read defenses and he fails to find an open receiver, Is this really the case or are the receivers simply not getting open? Turk Schonert came out in the Buffalo news after last season and stated that once opposing teams took away Lee Evans with double coverage the passing game suffered greatly. My take is once Edwards develops a rapport with TO, the middle to deep passing game will get better. I'd like to see Parrish and Reed sit, and Steve Johnson get a shot at the 3rd wide out spot, JMO.
-
I'm not certain if it was Trent or the play calling on that last drive as I don't know what plays were called. Seems that Edwards was taking longer to find his receivers much the same way he did with Schonert calling plays. Kinda leads me to think he was looking deeper then he had been, JMO.

Steve Johnson sighting soon?
thewildrabbit replied to RockPile007's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Which makes no sense to me, the Bills are paying TO 6 mill this year... They need to get him the ball every chance they can, the guy is still one of the best WR's in the game. Johnson might be good at some point, why break him in now when you have a known top ten wide out on your team. -
The Bills really surprised me with how well the team played. The fact that they were even in the game up until the last 5 min exceeded my expectations. On that last fumble, I blame lady luck...
-
To AVP, great play calling, cheers ! What a difference in the play calling, nice job. To the new O linemen, Cheers! Great job on MNF. All off season I've been crying about the O line changes and worrying about how long Trent Edwards would stay upright. Those young guys on the line played their butts off, nice job! Gotta tip my hat to Dick Jauron and offer up a I honestly didn't think the Bills would be that prepared and play as well they did, all three phases looked good. One day lady luck will stop kicking the Bills in the crotch and let them win games like that MNF game, what a heart breaker. Trent Edwards needs to work on the 2 min drill a bit, Jim Kelly was a master at that and so is Tom Brady. Clearly Edwards is not there yet and he really needs to focus on the receivers at the sidelines and just getting first downs, instead of trying to get it deep. Lastly,I know it will happen at some point, perhaps Edwards needs more time to develop a rapport with TO but he really needs to TRY and get the ball to TO every chance he can, I don't care if TO has 6 players covering him and Evans, Reed and Parish are wide open, throw TO the ball!!!!

Leodis McKelvin's property vandalized
thewildrabbit replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No class Bills fans vandalizing a players personal home...makes me ashamed to be a Bills fan at times. The guy is a good young talent and players are human and make mistakes, there is no reason on this earth as to why a decent person would even think about doing something like this to a players home. I'd think Leodis feels bad enough about that game, and how much it meant to the team. Now that this incident made the NFL network and all the sports pages it really gives all Bills fans a black eye. -
IF AVP is smarter then Schonert he won't call a pass play with more then a 3 step drop back, screens, slants and everything but a 5-7 step drop. Try and run the ball more then usual to give Trent some confidence that the offense can work.
-
If you read the Bills website it explains the reason why they cut Walker, the guy was winded every play and couldn't get back to the line to even run the no huddle, either at RT-LT if he can't get back to the LoS quickly he was useless. So Clearly they are better off without him in TRYING to run that no huddle. I honestly don't know what to make of these actions, trading Peters and not replacing him with a left tackle in the draft. Then just cutting Walker because he doesn't fit the new offensive scheme. So, what happens if Bell re-injures his back ?
-
Mike Mayock on the NFL networks preview show, Trent Edwards is sitting there with five guys on the O line that he isn't sure that have any armpit hair yet Made me really laugh... At the end of the day the foundation of any offense starts with the offensive line. As usual the Patriots were picked to win the division, the AFC and the super bowl. If the Bills had kept Jason Peters at LT and Langston Walker at RT I know I sure would feel better about starting two unproven rookies and an unproven new center. Watching BJ Raji pushing this line around in the preseason didn't make me feel very secure about the lines future success. I honestly hope Jauron knows what he is doing with starting all these young players along with a new offensive coordinator, it just seems to me he is planning his own demise as a head coach in Buffalo, and leaving the next guy a real mess.
