fake reverse, something new -
I agree with the bolded, as the Bills offense hasn't been able to control the clock or stay on the field either this year or last year. Last season at least they had a semblance of a run game. To his credit I think Schwartz has done a remarkable job in allowing less first downs, and put his opponents in third and long far more then Pettine ever did. However, Denver has such a quick strike offense that scores a ton of points, and its rare their drives last more then three minutes because they score so quickly. The Denver defense is on the field as much as the Bills only for different reasons. After losing to St Louis with Peyton throwing 54 passes for 368 yards vs only 10 attempts rushing in a 7-22 loss, and watching Manning not have a very good day. The Denver OC changed up the offense in favor of more quick, short pass along with a whole lot more running the ball. What I find interesting is the Denver offense was having the exact same problem as the Bills are having with weak players at the OG positions, and they couldn't get any push in the run game. The coaches figured out that by changing up blocking schemes they were able to get stronger in the middle, and hence have been very strong running the ball the late two games against both Miami, Kansas City. The Dolphins did have a top run defense until the broncos ripped them for 35 rushes, 201 yards, one TD. Against Miami CJ Anderson 167 yards on 27 rushes, one TD. The Chiefs also had a good run defense until the played Denver, and then CJ Anderson had 32 attempts, 168 yards rushing. Manning only throwing 34 passes, against KC, 35 passes against Miami with a lot of dinking and dunking the last two games. Thus nullifying both teams pass rushes on Manning, as he was only sacked once each game. The Rams got him 3x times. Now with a much stronger run game Denver is a serious contender to win the SB this season IMO. John Elway didn't win one until he had Terrell Davis pounding the rock. CJ Anderson!! Kinda why I think Buffalo will lose, and lose big. Especially if they come out throwing like they have since the Chargers game.

Jay Gruden May Be Shown The Door.
thewildrabbit replied to george c's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Redskins owner and GM are siding with RG3, and there most certainly will be a new HC in Washington next year. Skins owner Dan Snyder keeps all his HC's on a very short leash. I 100% believe that they will keep RG3 over Gruden. RG3 may or may not have the "YIPS", and the kid did win rookie of the year, and take his team to the playoffs his rookie season. RG3's problem is he screwed himself when won a power struggle with Shanahan, and got him fired. Now he needs a HC who can develop him into a pocket passer. GL with that task. -
This~ I was correct when I thought Pettine would get some looks as a HC last year, and he did get more then looks as the Browns hired him as their new HC. Not to mention that he took a 4-12 team with a lot less talent then the Bills have, and he has his team at 7-5 too. That 7-5 record is the best that franchise has seen since 2007, and previous to that 2002. Pettine has proven to be a decent HC so far. Schwartz is more knowledgeable at this point in his career, and a better DC then Pettine IMO, as he is clearly doing much better then Pettine did, and without Kiko! Schwartz is able to field a championship like defense without the help of a good offense that can run the ball, control the clock. His defenses are out on the field just as long as Pettine's were, and his results are far better. Putting opponents offense in 3rd and long more often, and less first downs. In Schwartz's defense of his time in Detroit he did take over a horribly bad 0-16 team and managed to get them to the playoffs in three years. Then I look at their QB, and every year it looks like Matthew Stafford chokes at the end of every season. Should the Bills not fold like a lawn chair over the next four games, and the defense stays in the top ten. Then I can easily see multiple teams looking at Schwartz for a head coaching job next year.At the cost of losing Schwartz I'd rather see Marrone gone along with JV college OC Hackett. Then promote Schwartz be the next Bills HC just allow him to hire some top assistants like Rex Ryan as DC, Jay Gruden, or Ken Whisenhunt for OC.

He wouldn't, and is probably really looking forward to the challenge. Manning gets the ball out to his receivers in 2.2 seconds, which is fastest in the NFL. Going to be tough to get to Manning with just the front four. I'm not worried about the Bills defense per se, as I'm more concerned about the Bills going 3 downs, and out all game so the defense is worn out by the fourth quarter. Denver is the #3 team in the NFL in total defense, and Buffalo is #5. The Bills are #1 in sacks, and Denver is #5.

Mike Williams. Ugh. Just ugh.

Man, John. I would think a change to a good experienced NFL OC would be the difference between George Edwards / Dave wannstedt vs Mike Pettine / Jim Schwartz was to the defense. This coaching staff has had two years to coach up the players, or tell the GM these players aren't good enough. Instead you get guys like Colin Brown out of the practice field and Marrone right out there with him "hand on" showing him what to do. Right up until they cut him after week six last year. Marrone is a supposed O line guru, and its the worst area of the team by far. I've come to the conclusion this HC doesn't know the difference between a good O line player, and bad player if his job depended on it, and it does. Marrone says he will play his best players, and yet Cyril Richardson was out there how many games before he was replaced by the better player in Urbik. I also have a tough time believing that Chis Hogan is a better player in any aspect over Mike Williams. Even if the Bill had the best O line in the league, exactly how is predictably running up the middle 60 to 70% of the time going to win games? That is, if the current OC would stop calling pass plays long enough to utilize a good run game. This still isn't going to find a way to get Spiller in space, nor is it going to allow Sammy Watkins to play up to his potential if he continues to be used as a decoy. Really good coaches like Chip Kelly find a way to get the most out of their players, and even QB bums like Mark Sanchez. A HC like Chip Kelly wouldn't have gone into a second season with Pears, Urbik on the roster...much less them starting, and Pears at RG is a complete joke. i'm not afraid of change because this isn't the same owner who will hire bottom of the barrel head coaches. I could see Schwartz getting promoted to HC, and then finding top assistants to coach the offense, defense. Like Rex Ryan as DC and if they should get fired Trestman or Whisenhunt as OC. -
The answers are coming in the next 4 weeks

I'd think Marrone might, and I'm hoping Hackett is gone no matter what record the team finishes with. The offense is a joke. I for one believe this team is a solid offensive coaching staff away from winning the division. Then you have to think if Pettine can get hired as a HC, I'd think Schwartz will be given more looks. I'd hate to lose Schwartz. -

Well said, and I'm also very frustrated with the offensive coaching staff. All good points. I can't hardly wait for the off season to see what the Pegula's will do with their new team. -
Is a Bronco Win Over Buffalo Really Imminent?
thewildrabbit replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
C'mon guys. The Broncos are fielding the #5 offense in points, and yards. The #3 defense in yards, and 17th in points. That Denver defense is currently ranked #3 in total defense, and #10 against the pass, #2 against the run. The Bills are playing "on the road" in Denver at mile high stadium. QB Peyton Manning has throw 36 TD's to 9 INT's. Now for the keepin it real stuff. The real discrepancy between the two teams is with the Buffalo offense, as they are currently ranked 24th in yards. 21st in passing, 24th in rushing. 23rd in 3rd and out percentage. 26th in 3rd down efficiency. 31st in first down statistics. The Bills are currently 30th in red zone TD scoring. Last time I looked the Gailey clone is still calling for more pass plays then runs. The offensive line is still a huge concern, and nobody on it is playing up to their past abilities. The entire receiving corps seems to be questionable, and hurting. The superstar WR the Bills gave up three picks for is hurting, and since opposing teams have rolled coverage's his way is not performing like he did at the start of the season. Spiller is not ready to play just yet, and Fredex looks to be still hurting from his injury. The reality is that if it comes down to just FG's, then the Bills have a shot to win. -
Report: Harbaugh very likely gone [update: now gone]
thewildrabbit replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He wasn't like that in college from what I've read about him, and doesn't really seem to be that way in San Fran. Although, there is no question he is an alpha male, and wants things done his way. The biggest problem seems to be the discord between Harbaugh, and GM Trent Baalke, and so much so that they refuse to meet face to face. They currently correspond by email. Then you have the fact that Harbaugh has no control at all over the roster, and Baalke has all the control. 11 players on IR, 5 players on the unable to perform. 11 players questionable for the Oakland game. I can kinda understand the frustration of not being able to have control on who he wants to replace injured players. Still the defense is a top 10 unit and the problems with the offense are with QB Colin Kaepernick, and his inability to progress as a pocket QB. It was Harbaugh that told his father that after the Niner's drafted Kaepernick they drafted the best player in the entire draft. So I would have to think that he was Harbaugh's choice to replace Alex Smith. I would imagine that in Oakland, or anywhere else Harbaugh chooses to go after this season he will have all the control he wants over the roster. Then there is still the chance that the 49ers sign him to an extension, and give him more control over the roster. -
Slim to none, and Slim left town. I have no faith in the current offensive staff, the O line, the scheme, the play calling. Other then that, if the Bills trade offenses with the Broncos it would be a 100-1 blowout in favor of Buffalo.

thewildrabbit replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrone seemed fine with the acquisition of Williams at first. I think the grudge goes back to week *four against the Texans when Williams made a post game comment about the Bills OC not understanding the Texans were in a different coverage then the one they had anticipated, and yet stayed with the same game plan until late into the third quarter. Williams basically stated things tend to not work well when your playing against a different coverage then the one you game planned for. That's in the official Buffalo Bills videos on their website. *Sept 28th press conference "we adjusted a little too late" Regardless, seems so lame to keep a known red zone scoring talent like Williams inactive or only on special teams for any reason. The stupidity of the current offensive coaching staff is unbelievable, and I can't hardly wait for the off season. EDIT: thought the video was against the Chargers, and it was actually against the Texans. Funny thing is Mike Williams had 2 receptions for 84 yards, and a TD in that game. Then Williams remained a starter for Detroit 2 rec 8 yards. Then went MIA for the Patriots game. Pretty big grudge for being late. Anyway, I have a tough time believing Hogan is the better option ...
