Eli Manning, they guy who won a SB with the Giants? I keep hearing that story about Polian calling Wilson's daughter a name, yet have never seen an actual quote from a named source about it. During the time surrounding 91 SB in Minnesota, I heard a rumor about Polian's brother selling a playbook or something to that effect. I tend to believe that Polian lost a power struggle in the front office and to save money Wilson fired him.

The Bills are so bad __________________

7-9 is starting to look good -
Is this franchise is finished? Now that the NFL teams will no longer share revenue...where does that leave the small market teams like Buffalo? The Bills will have to pay Jauron the next three years while hiring and paying another head coach...who can they realistically afford besides someone willing to take the job for peanuts? Shanahan was just a smokescreen IMO. If this front office made the all personnel moves and they don't hire a real GM or president, this team will continue to languish with highly paid average players. The front office allowed Jauron to completely rebuild the offensive line, or did they force him into cost cutting moves? The same thought with the offensive coordinator and O line coach, was Jauron foolish enough to believe he could win with 2 rookie coordinators calling plays, or was that forced on him to promote from within? Every time I see this team make a move to save money by getting rid of an expensive player it seems like they don't make enough effort to bring in anyone else even close in talent, they dumped 3 high paid O linemen and it cost the team more then just money. They brought in T.O. and then got rid of three linemen to pay him. The smoke is clearing and the Bills are only going to continue on a downhill slide with this current front office.

its not as bad as you may think
thewildrabbit replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills are currently 30th in total offense, 30th in passing, only Oakland and Cleveland were worse. The defense is not the biggest problem by far. #17 in rushing with the worst O line in the NFL, just think if the Bills had a solid line...that could have made the difference in 3-4 wins. #21 in total defense, #2 against the pass and #32 LAST against the run and you want a better pass rush? 1) fix the offense, OC, game plan, play book. 2) fix the offensive line 3) change the defensive scheme away from the Tampax 2, worst in the NFL against the run -
So is Michael Lombardi, either would be better then what the Bills currently have running this team as GM. Between Jauron and this front office staff, they don't have a clue who to draft that would help this team win asap. Maybin was a total waste this last year and still might be two years away from contributing every down.

Even if he comes out and throws like a mad bomber, and plays great. The Bills win the next two games and and suddenly it looks like the Bills have found their QB, head coach. Then next season the entire thing falls apart because the front office thinks this team can win with the current coaches, players, scheme and playbook... and nothing changes. Because...defenses may lay back and let Brohm throw to get some looks on him. Plus the fact the Falcons secondary stinks and the Colts will be resting starters. These two games mean nothing, save a better draft position. The Bills were smart in firing Dick Jauron, he was a moron concerning draft picks and offensive game planning. Not to mention he had no clue how to build an offensive line or when to build it. If your going to blow it up completely wouldn't it have been smarter to do that when he first got to Buffalo? Plus his last two offensive coordinators were promotions to people who had never called offensive plays before the job as OC in Buffalo, thoroughly moronic. Now the owner needs to clean out the rest of the fools in the front office who allowed Jauron to make the moves he did. He also needs to revamp the entire offensive and change the coaches, line, QB, OC, RB, WR, TE. Wilson was talking about blowing up the F.O. and entire staff and starting over. I happen to like Perry Fewell, I just can't stand the Tampa 2 defense, so I don't see him staying.
-
My biggest fear is they retain Fewell or hire another defensive coach and the offense and playbook stay the same. Then all they do is continue to focus on the defense when the scheme is holding them back. Just what the Bills need is more DB's.

let the mock drafts begin
thewildrabbit replied to DELLAPELLE JOHN's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Drafting for defense and a QB for this team is a waste of time, unless your Dick Jauron Defense is not the problem, same as it wasn't the problem last season. Its the crappy Tampa 2 scheme, it will always be problem no matter who they draft. If this team doesn't draft a premier left O tackle and address the O line in the draft and free agency they will have another poor season. A dominant blocking fullback and tight end would also help the offense. -
Brohm to start?
thewildrabbit replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can't really hold the Bills fans / posters here accountable for their desire to throw a young QB into the fray to "see what he can do" as so many coaches have done the same thing over and over again, year after year in the NFL. These coaches are supposed to be highly paid professionals, and yet have allowed so many inexperienced QB's to play in a sink or swim environment. I've witnessed so many rookie QB's get thrown into the game before they are anywhere near ready, with inferior lines and schemes, and on bad teams. The coaches mentality is... they want the QB to win games for them, rather then just be a part of a team effort to win. -
Are you happy the Bills lost?
thewildrabbit replied to Endzone Animal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
none of the above I can't stand the Patriots and Tom Brady, this season was a down year for them and the Bills played well enough to actually win with a handicapped team. I wanted the Bills to win this one -
No, that's what only two of you think. With your mentality I suppose you would take a sentance from a paragraph out of context that you didn't agree with and underline it, make a post about it and then not back it up... Seems to me you share the same traits as alphapr!ck

$10 Million dollars on the table and no one wants it?
thewildrabbit replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This front office didn't want to pay Jason Peters, Derrick Dockery or Langston Walker and got rid of them all to save money. Anyone or two of those three would have helped this team win games this season Stating that, I'd say that the front office talking to Mike Shanahan was all a bunch of fluff to make the fans think that they had a real interest in him, or him, in the Buffalo Bills. There is no way this franchise will pay another head coach 10 million a year while paying Dick Jauron 3.5 million for the next three years, 13.5 million...no way. -
I said... LOL! Prove it!

Mike Holmgren to be President of Browns
thewildrabbit replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy has won a super bowl...and been in a SB 3 times as HC. He knows how to build a team through the draft like he did in GB and Seattle. He started as the offensive coordinator on Bill Walsh's 49ers,so he knows how to build an offense and develop a QB. He knows how to hire the proper coaches to help get the team into the playoffs and SB. He took a PoS Seattle team and did just that. What do the Buffalo Bills have in the front office as president? -
Most college QB's that are highly regarded and drafted early fail because the coaches / team / front office are inept. Usually the #1 overall draft pick is going to the worst team in the league and they have some really bad personnel all around to achieve that #1 pick. I think the fact that Plunkett failed in NE shows that a bad team can ruin a bright young player. Then given time to recover and play behind a good O line and on a good team, they can win.
-
The Patriots did indeed give up on Plunkett as they traded him away, even if they did get the farm for him. The Niners released him 2 years later. Did Grogan ever take the Pats to the SB,much less two ? I would have to think that the damage to Plunkett was already done and he needed time to recover and regain his form. I can only think that the Patriots learned the hard way and started building the O line for Grogan. In 75 the Pats went 3-11, 76 they went 11-3 so all those picks must have helped build that team. The point of my post was, although I like Perry Fewell and what he has managed to get out of the scrap heap of players available to him... this team is in desperate need of an experienced offensive coordinator or HC who knows how to build a proper offense. The Bills also traded OJ for some nice picks, kinda makes me wonder if some GM's or FO people were lining their pockets from some of these trades. Like the Minn-Dallas H Walker trade.
-
The main reason most of the QB's you named failed because of a bad team around them, bad O line, bad offensive scheme, bad skill players. It just goes to show to build the O line first, then grab a QB and skill players. The best current example of what not to do is the Detroit Lions. They kept drafting QB's and WR's with those #1 picks and the team never did get better.
-
Because it is really stupid to have an inexperienced QB start behind a really bad offensive line. I'm glad the coaches realize this even if nobody on this board does.

Winner of the 1970 Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award as the best college player of the year, Plunkett started at quarterback for two years at Stanford University. He completed 530 of 962 passes for 7,544 yards and 52 touchdowns, becoming the first player ever to account for more than 7,000 yards in passing and in total offense. He joined the NFL's New England Patriots as their first round draft choice in 1971 and was named rookie of the year after completing 156 of 328 attempts for 2,158 yards and 19 touchdowns. That was the beginning of a roller-coaster professional career. Playing behind a shaky offensive line, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Plunkett was frequently sacked and suffered a variety of injuries during the next four seasons. In 1976, the Patriots traded him to the San Francisco 49ers, who released him after the 1977 season. Plunkett joined the Oakland Raiders as a backup during the 1978 season. He took over as the starter after Dan Pastorini suffered a broken leg in the fifth game in 1980 and he helped lead the Raiders to the Super Bowl title as a wild-card team. In Oakland's 27-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XV, Plunkett completed 13 of 21 passes for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns and was named the game's most valuable player. http://www.hickoksports.com/biograph/plunkettjim.shtml Plunkett was one of the highest rated QB's to come out of college and went to a bad team with a poor O line where he was sacked and injured often, 2 teams gave up on him before he joined the Raiders, 7 years after being drafted. Those days when Al Davis had a brain that actually worked, he built a solid team with a great O line, good running game and good defense. Given 2 years to sit on the bench and recover from the beatings and injuries he took in NE and SF, he regained his form from his college days and went on to win 2 super bowls. Bill Walsh stated," It takes an average of 4 years to properly develop an NFL QB". Allowing any inexperienced QB to play behind a poor O line usually results in the QB never progressing and ultimately failing completely. Not only is a good O line important, the offensive scheme is important as are the game plan and the protection packages. I like Perry Fewell and what he has managed to do with the team Jauron left him... is get his players to compete in every game they are in... despite the crap O line, crap protections, and crap offensive scheme and a rookie play caller, not to mention all the injuries plaguing this team. I like AVP as well, but this franchise is in desperate need of an experienced offensive mind to properly setup an offense. O line- protections- overhaul the playbook-game plans. Shanahan would have been the guy, but he might be going to the Redskins. Anyone know a young Sean Payton, perhaps Cam Cameron ...

Grimm, Billick, Martz
thewildrabbit replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I HAD to choose between the three, Martz gets no consideration because he was fired from his last three coaching jobs. Grimm has no experience as a head coach, so nobody really knows what he can do, didn't the Bills just suffer through 10 years of inexperienced morons and one colossal experienced moron. Billick is the only one who has a SB ring from when he was the head coach. Granted he had Ozzie Newsome bringing in talent, and had an unbelievably great defense.+17 turnover differential that SB year. Billick went 80-64 at Baltimore .625. This guy will only succeed if the Bills make changes in the front office in terms of a top talent evaluator for the draft, plus they bring in some talented coordinators to run the offense and defense. -
JP is better then Russell imo
-
Jeez, Simmons has how many years of NFL experience? Even if he has learned Buffalo's podunk offense, which I doubt. He would still be playing behind the worst O line in the NFL. So you want to see him get sacked, beat up and perhaps injured or concussed to prove what? That he can run for his life as good as Edwards or Fitzpatrick? What most people don't get is that it takes an average of 4 years to properly develop a QB, let the guy sit, learn and watch. Let him go through an off season program so he fully understands the Bills offensive playbook and learns to read NFL defenses by watching film. Let him compete for a starting job next year in training camp. If he is as good as you make him out to be, then he needs a chance to show what he can do behind a somewhat competent O line.

Grimm, Billick, Martz
thewildrabbit replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its the Patriots! Exactly how many wins have the Bills had over that team since Jauron has been the Bills head coach? Its highly unlikely the Bills will even be in that Patriot game. However, should they win... it will make my year. The Patriots NEED to win to stay on top of the AFC East. The Falcons may or may not have Matt Ryan and Michael Turner back from Injuries, at 6-7 they are still a decent team. With the starting QB and RB in the lineup I don't see the Bills winning that one. The Colts might be resting their starters and may not want to endure any injuries, 28 players on the injury report this next week. -
Grimm, Billick, Martz
thewildrabbit replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Perry Fewell more then any of those 3, at 2-2 as head coach he has won 2 more games then I gave him credit for winning when he first took over as interim head coach. The two losses were Jags 15-18 and Jets 13-19 with the Bills very much in both games until the end, unlike Jauron. This last game gives me hope that the Bills have a head coach that understands you don't need to force the QB to win every game. Considering the state of the Buffalo Bills when this guy took over it is amazing to me that this team is playing this hard for this guy. Considering the O line and injuries and schemes the Bills run, a rookie play caller and back up QB starting... Patriots-Falcons-Colts left to play, if he finishes 2-5 then maybe Grimm-Billick, never Mike "fired from last 3 coaching jobs" Martz. If Fewell somehow manages a win over the Patriots, then the guy really deserves a genuine shot at the head coaching job next season -
Its been a fun weekend of ... now back to reality. You guys want the Bills to start a QB that doesn't yet fully know the system he is playing in. Behind an O line that was bad from the beginning of the season to currently downright horrid. So you can watch him run for his life play after play? Exactly what will the Bills gain by destroying a decent future QB prospect?
