Why doesnt a good HC want to come here?
thewildrabbit replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just about every move that was made in the last two years for players and personnel seemed to be cost cutting moves, because of the economy? Instead of hiring a proven experienced offensive coordinator, Jauron promotes from within. Instead of hiring an experienced offensive line coach, Jauron promotes from within. Jauron fires the 2nd yr OC and promotes from within again. The Bills trade away Peters, cut Dockery and Walker and the Bills think that rookies and inexperienced cheap linemen will get the job done, when the rookie line coach couldn't get it done with vets? I'd have to think Levy hired Fairchild to run the offense, hired Jim McNally to coach the O line brought in high priced O linemen to build the offense. After Levy left and Jauron was on his own he started tearing it all apart. Seems like every move that Marv Levy made as GM was blown up by Jauron, even to getting himself fired. -
Why Did Haslett Lose Favor So Fast?
thewildrabbit replied to ajzepp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When you start a thread about someone do you ever stop to look at his actual record as a head coach or just want to remember him as a good player for the Bills, and say why not? NO 2000 10-6 NO 2001 7-9 NO 2002 9-7 NO 2003 8-8 NO 2004 8-8 NO 2005 3-13 His record 53-61 So looking at his work in New Orleans what makes you think he would be better then Jauron? The NFC South, Atlanta-Carolina-Tampa Bay. If he can't get a team to compete in that division, how can you think he could win going up against Parcells - Belichick teams, and now Buddy Ryans son is kicking butt with the Jets. The only coach I can see making this franchise a winner in the AFC East at this time is Bill Cowher. -
Schottenheimer's OFFICIAL THREAD

Marty ball would work with Brian as OC. If the Bills hire Brian as HC and also hire Marty as a consultant that might work also. This franchise is in desperate need of an offensive mind that knows what he is doing, either as OC or HC. These defensive OC's scare me into thinking we might get another Jauron or Williams for the next three years. -

This exactly what Marv levy said about the ex Packer head coach...whats his name, you know the guy just before he hired Jauron. -

Maybe Brian Scottenheimer Would Be Legit Here
thewildrabbit replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There has already been talk of him coming to Buffalo as the head coach and his dad also signing to be a consultant. Marty and Son, that would be better then another defensive coordinator from some team who hasn't proven he can be a head coach. -
Anyone else feel like just giving up?
thewildrabbit replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fans are so deprived of a winner around here we seem to have some sort of blinding bliss every off season. We all keep thinking that somehow the stars will align and the QB coach who never called plays before will become an offensive wizard. The offensive line lacking its best player who was traded away will suddenly start playing like all pro's, even the 2 rookies and new center. The QB's who took over 100+ hits this year will play like Brett Farve and the pain will never bother them, like timex watches they will keep ticking and play great. The reality is that we know the team will stink because the coaches have a history of losing before they are even hired, or are first time coaches and for some inexplicable reason someone thinks they can suddenly be a head coach. We all know if the Bills hire another wannabe it will be another long three years, very depressing. -
If the Bills keep this supposed search going it scares me that they might be after Ron Rivera of the Chargers, or some other assistant with no previous history of being a head coach. Stupidity has been rolling full steam and has prevailed at OBD for a decade, hard to believe it will screech to a halt now. The last thing this franchise needs is another wanna be coordinator getting his shot at becoming a head coach in Buffalo, the names Jauron-Williams-Mularkey are apparently already forgotten. I think Ralph Wilson forgets that the best Buffalo Bills head coach in the history of the franchise was Marv Levy, who got his start as special teams coach. A head coach in KC, Canada and the USFL before becoming the Bills head coach, never a coordinator. So RW and his infinite wisdom along with the bozo's in the FO completely overlook what could have been another Marv in Bobby April and didn't even give him the interim shot.

Chill out willyas He has never stated he didn't want to be in Buffalo...the current rumor is, Cowher is happy with the salery the Bills offered him but wants assurance that ....

Not for nothing but you find guards later in the draft, not great tackles. The offense should be first. Its the mentality like this that has kept Buffalo QB's from progressing and kept the Bills 25th or worst on offense every year. What sense does it make to grab a franchise QB and pay him big money only to see him run for his life play after play and get banged and beaten up like Matt Stafford. The reason Arron Rodgers is so good right now is because he was allowed to sit behind Brett and watch and learn. Same with Carson Palmer, he was allowed to sit and learn for a year. Changing the defensive scheme to something like the Colts now run and getting everyone back healthy will help the defense enough. The Colts ran the Tampa 2 in 08, then switched this season and the result is a much better overall defense, even without Bob Sanders.

The Bills have not gotten into Significant talks with Cowher, which means they aren't close, why in the %4#@ not? http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/...her?eref=fromSI You have Belichick, Parcells and now the Jets have a top Defense to contend with every year. This isn't the time to be pondering what to do or weighing options. Bill Cowher is far and away the best choice here, no question about it. Nobody else is even close to what this man has achieved in his time with the Steeler's. Give the guy what he needs and lets go forward. _____________________________ This team is a mess, it's going to take a ton of work to get the Bills into the playoffs and in contention every year. The offense is by far the worst area of this team, the Bills have been horrible for nearly a decade and haven't faired better then 25th in seven years. I don't think its because the Bills haven't found another Jim Kelly yet, if they did he would just get beaten down like all the others. Its because the Bills keep hiring defensive coaches and neglecting the offense. Mike Mularkey started in the right direction at 9-7 and drafted Lee Evans, then had problems with a Kelly Holcomb and JP Losman transition from Bledsoe the next season and went 5-11. In all honesty starting a rookie QB the guy should have gotten more leeway from the front office, but then the Bills FO were looking at Ben Rothlisberger and saying hey, why can't we be that good. Even Mularkey didn't build the O line like it should have been, everyone wants a high powered offense right away, even with rookies. Let's face it, Donahoe didn't do the Bills any favors with that 95 draft. __________________________________ Look at what Mangini did his first year with the Jets , even with a defensive background he knew enough to draft a center and left tackle with his first two picks, now the Jets have a dominating ground game. The Jets are in the playoffs with a rookie QB, but they are there because of a potent defense and ground game

Wilson updates AP on Bills coaching search
thewildrabbit replied to Delete This Account's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"we don't want a splashy name", "we want someone with passion"...the world is filled with people with passion, it doesn't mean they can create a winning team. The fans want a splashy name, that name is Bill Cohwer. Hire someone who can build an offense and make it work, look at the Baltimore Ravens this weekend and comprehend this... they are winning with a young QB, solid O line and dominate running attack, so are the Jets. That formula appears to work when you don't have a Payton Manning or Drew Brees at QB. -
how big of a joke is this team when...
thewildrabbit replied to OldTimer1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dontcha love how some fans get all bent out of shape about rumors that can't possibly be true So far the Buffalo Bills have only asked to interview Shanahan, Cowher, Fewell, Frazier AFAIK Jon Gruden made it known he wasn't interested in interviewing with anyone by stating so, after he signed an extension with ESPN. -

Bills close to making a decision?
thewildrabbit replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They stated they have a direction and it will happen soon, which means to me they already know who they want... that said, it can only be Fewell-Fraizer-Shanahan-Cowher. Since Shanahan is already a Redskin it leads me to believe Buffalo could have a great 2010 -
Bills close to making a decision?
thewildrabbit replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was Michael Lombardi, he stated he has spoken with someone in the Bills org and they have a direction they are going in, wouldn't say which direction that was. But also stated they feel that something will happen soon. Lord I hope it is Bill Cowher, who once he finds out John Fox will stay in Carolina will take the Buffalo job -
Yea well, lets see who he chooses as his head coach, that choice will define him forever.

The Bills want to wait to take their time and cover all bases in hiring a new head coach....why? They know where the weakness are and what they need to correct them, or do they? All this talk of hiring defensive coaches for the head coaching position is making me The Bills are 25th in offense or worse for 10 years now...every QB they bring in eventually falls on their face because of poor coaching. They can't find a way to get the running game to work so they continuously force the QB to try and win games. FIX THE OFFENSE !!! If they had moved quicker they could have had Charlie Weiss as OC to run the offense and help develop the QB's, he does have a history with some scrub named Tom Brady. OHHHH, I had forgotten...this is the Buffalo Bills! So after all the smoke clears surrounding Bill Cowher they will hire Jim Haslett

Joe Logan = SKOOBY I tend to believe what Adam Schefter has to say, the guy knows whats going on behind the scenes, While at the NFL he was always reporting things nobody believed that turned out to be true, like Morris HC of the Buc's -
Bills attempting to set up interview w/Leslie Frazier
thewildrabbit replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh lord, not the Tampax 2 for another 4 years... I don't care if Monte Kiffin himself is running that D, the Bills don't have Pat Williams in the middle to stop the run and it will more year after year of bad defenses. Didn't Nix state the Bills would hire a head coach with previous head coaching experience, one who had a winning record? -
I really hate to burst your bubble... The Bills Tampa 2 scheme sucks, it sucks against the run the most, but it still sucks overall. Why opposing O coordinators even try and throw against the Bills when they know they can easily run against the worst defense against the run. The pass rush was decent and the secondary played pretty well considering all the injuries. The defensive passing stats are skewed because of a few games in particular. The Browns game with high winds and they only completed TWO passes the entire game out of 17 attempts, the stats after that week put the Bills #2 against the pass in the NFL because of the weather. To bad the Bills still lost that game 3-6 The Jets game where the OC let a rookie keep throwing the ball up in bad weather and allowed him to be intercepted 5 times, kinda funny considering the Bills couldn't stop the Jets ground game at any point. Jones had 210 yds rushing, Washington had 99 yards rushing, why they chose to throw at all is beyond me. The Panthers game where they have a brutal running attack and yet they let Jake D throw it around for INT's, kinda stupid huh. If they played them again after Jake gets injured, its a blowout for the Panthers. My take is that the Bills were more lucky this season in the secondary, more then they were good. Special teams were woeful most of the year and the offense was down right horrid. The Tampa 2 has been terrible against the run every year and under Jauron, so then the Bills draft a puny DE with the very first pick last year, figures... That win against the Colts, with Payton Manning on the bench and the Colt backups in the game, they gave the Bills the game to keep their players healthy. They let Curtis Painter throw it....Curtis Painter Bottom line... Points for 258, Points against 326 says it all
-
I think the Tampa 2 will always be weak against the run, at least the way Fewell and Jauron run it. Anyway, I for one will be ecstatic to see the Bills move away from that crappy scheme. On another note, just think if the Bills had focused their off season building the O line instead of tearing it apart, and then not replacing the tackles with anyone worth a damn, they would have won more games. Had the Bills built a power running game to play keep away from opponents offenses and controlled the clock, it would have made an enormous difference to the offense. A power running game allows the QB to manage the game instead of forcing them into critical situations constantly.

Buffalo Bills Head Coach
thewildrabbit replied to thewildrabbit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
C'mon, the NY Giants have the best O line in the NFL and one of the top running games to go with that O line, they also had a top TE and WR corps when Eli got there plus Kevin Gilbride as OC.Top system, running game, coaching, O line. Big Ben had Bill Cowher and the Bus, all he was asked to do his first year was manage the game and let the running game do all the work, and it did take them to a SB. Big Ben also had Ken Wisenhunt as his OC, who is now HC in Arizona.Top system, running game, coaching, O line. Payton Manning had Tom Moore as his OC who taught him to call his own plays, Bill Polian to build a great O line and running game, great WR corps, look at his supporting cast, friken awesome Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers had Cam Cameron as their OC an one of the best O lines in the NFL to sit behind and learn, plus Cam Cameron teaching them. If I'm not mistaken Rivers sat behind Brees and learned for a year, so no, he wasn't thrown into any fire. All you did was reinforce my point about schemes, play callers, coaches and O lines. all the QB's you mentioned went to really good teams with really good O lines and decent if not some great coaching. I highly doubt any of those QB's could have achieved the success they now have... if they had been drafted by and played for the Buffalo Bills. Don't forget, the Bills had a rookie play caller in Schonert and AVP, no QB coach and the worst O line in the NFL and Dick Jauron as HC. Rotten coaching, scheme, play calling and O line... this is why they need to blow up the entire team and rebuild it with someone who knows OFFENSE! -
Buffalo Bills Head Coach
thewildrabbit replied to thewildrabbit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So if the Bills remain 25th in offense or worse you're OK with that? So if the Bills continue to draft QB's and they continue to fail because they lack proper coaching, you're OK with that also? Lastly, Can you link some credentials as to why you think Rivera take the Bills players and turn them into a top defense in the NFL, has he done this with any other team as DC?
