Fraizer did NOT turn down the Bills
thewildrabbit replied to BillsNYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was stated earlier in the week that the Bills were looking to an offensive mind rather then going defense again. The only winning record this franchise has had in almost 10 years was with Mike Mularkey at 9-7, Wade went 8-8 in 2000. I have no idea why Nix didn't even interview Brian Billick or Steve Marriucci, then again perhaps he did inquire about them and was rejected. It seems that the Bills searching process was kept on the down low after Brian Schottenheimer turn them down. Who really knows how far down the list Chan Gailey was... The Bills front office will blow more smoke about Gailey being "their guy" all along -
What will make you renew the NFL Sunday ticket next year
thewildrabbit replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My take is the only reason Cowher and Shanahan even spoke with the Bills FO is they released info that the Bills would pay 10 million a year to get a top coach. So when all this blows over it will be interesting to hear what actually happened with those two, considering Shanahan took a 5 year 35 million dollar a year deal with the Redskins. It is not "all" about the head coach, all he really needs to do is motivate the players, manage the team and game and his assistants. It is all about who he hires as his assistant coaches, Marv inherited some great players and hired one terrific OC and went to 4 SB's. -
What the hell were the KC Chiefs thinking?
thewildrabbit replied to KD in CA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly, if he gets one more suspension he will be gone for an entire year, then next after that could get him permanently suspended. Granted Allen is an amazing talent, but playing on a losing team can make you want to drink more often then not I'd think. Both teams got a good deal from it IMO. -
Jebus, hasn't this team been thru 2 assistant coaches hired to be head coach in Mularkey and Williams to understand it is much more difficult for them to succeed then one with previous head coaching experience. One who has a winning record, the Bills took a chance on a HC in Dick Jauron who was a loser. What most on this board realize is that Mike Tomlinson was the DC of the Vikings before he was hired to be the Steelers HC, he left a great defense in Minnesota and joined an already great team with a promising young QB in Pitt. You notice that Tomlinson didn't change the defense in Pitt to the Tampa 2, instead he let the DC there continue to run it. So exactly what has Frazier accomplished that he should be considered for the Bills head coach, that Viking defense was already good when he got there. The GM added Jared Allen and they have the Williams Bros in the Middle to stop the run. Dick Jauron could easily make that defense look good, and we all know what he was like as HC. can Frazier manage a game? can he hire the right OC/DC? can he get the smallish Bills defense to actually stop the run? can he build an offense that will be better then 25th, which is what it has been for 7+ years. can he mentor the QB's, which nobody has since Mularkey. The Bills can hire the guy, I just don't see him being any better the Perry Fewell, who coached better and was an upgrade from Jauron.

The only thing asinine here is your post, I'm allowed to post whatever conjecture I want. Yes, I have owned a business! Furthermore, If there was a person I targeted first because I knew they could do the job better then anyone else and honestly offered them top dollar and they refused the job, I certainly would question my headhunter/ GM / Human resource manager as to why they turned down the job. As a Bills fan I'm offended that the FO releases information that they will hire Mike Shanahan / Bill Cowher for 10 million a year and then get turned down. We haven't heard the reasons as to why those men turned down the job, I for one want to know. Until the FO releases Info as to why the "splashy" names turned down the job, I'll speculate all I want.
-
Ok so, Mike Shanahan listens to the Bills FO when they fly to him and ask for an interview, he grants it and is offered the job and turns it down Bill Cowher listens and allows an interview, seems like the FO and Cowher talk on several occasions, is offered the job and turns it down. Brian Schottenheimer says no to an interview Leslie Frazier says yes to an interview, not offered the job....yet Perry Fewell says yes to an interview, not offered the job, gets hired by NY Giants as DC Jim Harbaugh says yes to an interview, is offered the job and turns it down I've seen reports that Charlie Weiss turned down the Bills. Considering nobody knew that Nix had offered the job to Harbaugh or that he even had set up an interview tells me that there are more out there that have turned down the Bills. _________________________________________________________________ As a fan at this point you have to ask yourself WTF is happening here. A few weeks ago the FO is blowing out smoke that they will pay Shanahan or Cowher 10 million a year and both listen because of that, and then turn down the Job. So that the 10 million a year was complete bullsh!t, just to get some interviews going forward, and garner some actual interest in the job. Now that the smoke has cleared nobody wants to work for Ralph Wilson. It makes you wonder what pay scale the Bills offered a new HC because the high priced guys turned down the job. Cowher was said to have made 7 million in Pitt, same with Shanahan in Denver. Now Shanahan took the Redskins job for 5 years 35 million, sounds like 6 million a year to me,another reason I think that 10 million was utter BS. It also makes me wonder how much power the new coach is going to have also, any say in personnel decisions at all? Will Ralph Wilson sit in on the draft and make his choices as usual? Because the only guys they can get to currently bite at the hook are assistants who have never been a head coach, and even some of them are saying no. I conclude that the real Mr Ralph Wilson stepped up and said... get us the cheapest guy you can and give him no power.

Why not Herman Edwards or Mike Sherman??
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo 66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marv turned down Sherman after he blew the socks off him at his interview just before Jauron was hired, he then went to the Texans to become the OC, he was fired after the team was ranked 28th on offense his first year there. Kyle Shanahan took over that Houston offense. He is now the HC at Texas A&M Herm Edwards has already stated he doesn't want to coach for awhile and likes his job as a comentator. There are some viable options left for the Bills, neither of these two guys are among them. -
Since When Did Weiss Turn Down the Bills?
thewildrabbit replied to Arkady Renko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TG: After a full decade without making the playoffs, the only way I can avoid writing anything negative about the Bills would be not to cover them at all. http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/...your-doorstep-4 -
Don't bet against Cowher just yet.
thewildrabbit replied to DukeyBomb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Once Adam Schefter stated that he would be hired as the Buffalo Bills head coach before Bill Cowher, I knew it was over for Cowher to Buffalo. Schefter worked for the NFL network last year and has an "in" with every team in the NFL, he knew the Buc's were going to hire Morris long before everyone else even had a clue, besides the owners. If Schefter says it, you can take it to the bank. Charlie Casserly was a GM for the Redskins and Texans and worked for the NFL, he now reports for CBS on their pregame shows every week. He is about the only guy I listen to each week before games to find out the latest info around the league, he has some great insight. -
Woah - Bills offered HC job to Harbaugh
thewildrabbit replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dungy is STILL under contract for the Colts so he can't possibly consider any job with another team until his current contact expires. This was made known on the NFL network this week when it was mentioned that Seattle was interested in Dungy for GM and he responded that he couldn't even TALK with them because he is STILL under contract. There was also talk that the Colts could pursue a tampering charge because Seattle openly contacted Dungy, and by NFL rules they cannot speak with him unless they ask permission from the Colts. -
Woah - Bills offered HC job to Harbaugh
thewildrabbit replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't blame the guy, seems like nobody wants the Buffalo job. Could be a lame duck job if something happens to RW. The only thing that will make me happy now is if the Bills entire front office gets fired. Looks like the job will be either Frazier or Grimm -
We may hear some news after this weeks playoff games, depending on which teams are eliminated. I suspect we will finally hear whether Rivera will give an interview or not should the Chargers lose. This suspense kinda stinks, the team is waiting to talk with coaches still in the playoffs, meanwhile all the decent assistant coaches will be gone. Romeo Crennell and Charlie Weiss would have been great additions to the Bills as OC / DC, now that won't happen. At least we know the window for hiring a new Bills head coach should close after the super bowl at the latest, only another two weeks
-
Taken from the link above: Frazier is regarded as one of the top co-ordinators ready to step into a head-coaching job. Frazier has won Super Bowls as a player with the 1985 Chicago Bears and an assistant coach with the 2006 Indianapolis Colts. In three seasons with the Vikings, he has helped mould the veteran defence into one of the best in the league and continued their recent history as one of the stingiest against the run. Wasn't Mike Tomlin the DC at the Vikings before Frazier, that Vikings defense was pretty darn good at that time also. I'm of the opinion that the Vikings defense is great against the run because of the Williams Bro's in the middle Pat and kevin, and if you recall the Bills were really good at stuffing the run with Pat Williams in the middle. So exactly what did Frazier do at Minnesota that wasn't already there? Why did Marvin Lewis fire him in Cincy? Sorry, I'm not sold on Frazier as some are on this board. All I see is the Tampa 2 defense staying in Buffalo with the smaller players that Jauron drafted and the Bills still being the worst in the NFL against the run for another three years
-
Dunno, maybe Nix is getting embarrassed by so many declining the job and even declining interviews, Id rather have any offensive minds then Frazier by default... lord please not another Jauron clone and more of the Tampa 2. The Bills don't have the players the Viking have, it would be another 3 years of major fail. Frazier and Grimm I just don't get http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/01/1...oing-as-planned Has anyone in the media asked, why not Brian Billick ?- Why not Steve Marriucci? -Both of these men have stated they want to be a head coach again. Both have winning records and playoff experience, Billick has a SB ring as HC. There is another name out there and I really like his work as OC and QB mentor, none better the the NFL IMO. Cam Cameron, nobody in the NFL can build a better power running game then this man. Marriucci knows the "west coast" offense could mentor the QB's, something this team is in desperate need of. Brian Billick-why not? a super bowl winning HC Steve Marriucci- why not? had the 49ers in the playoffs 4 of his 6 years there Cam Cameron- too many don't like his one year with the Dolphins, I say give the guy a another chance Jason Garrett-why not? he has gotten Tony Romo playing like a super star late in the season. Dunno why the Bills are not even considering any of those four guys, considering two or more would jump at the chance to become the next Buffalo Bills head coach.

"Housecleaning turns into reorganizing basement"

We all kinda knew the housecleaning was done by the front office clowns, hence why they let go some really good coaches and kept all the fools in the FO. -

Bills want an offensive minded coach
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are right, the fans would revolt... perhaps all the way up until that first win against the Patriots 200+ yards on the ground and 3 rushing TD's with anyone behind center, tho it might take 2 years. This team is desperate for an offensive mind to repair the entire offense, the line, the playbook, the play calling, the scheme, and mentor the QB's so they actually progress. The Bills lost out on Charlie Weiss by waiting to interview others, who sadly have declined the job or and or the interview. The only other offensive mind I can think of that wants a HC job and knows how to build an offense is Steve Mariucci. -
Bills want an offensive minded coach
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So Jimmy Johnson was 1-15 at Dallas his first year, you can't define a coach who had only one year to prove himself. But you know what, with this fan base your probably right because the fans would run the guy off before he has a chance to build the offense, correct the playbook, teach an OC or mentor the QB's. Just like they ran off Dan Henning and Kevin Gilbride. -
Bills want an offensive minded coach
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didn't mention Martz because I think his time has passed, fired from his last 3 jobs, and 2 of those as an OC. Simply look at what the Ravens did to the Patriots in that playoff game AT New England, 200+ yds rushing, 3 rushing TD's ( Flacco 4/10 for 34 yds ). That Baltimore running game dominated that Patriot defense. For the life of me I can't understand why Cam Cameron isn't highly thought of for the Bills head coaching position. He was given autonomy by Harghbaugh to run that offense and he has done an amazing job. Think for a min and look at Flacco for that Patriots playoff game, 91 yr old Mr Ralph Wilson himself could have been at QB and the Ravens still win that game. Doesn't that give any insight into what kind of power running attack Cameron can build? Look back at the Chargers and take a look at LT when he played for Cameron, then think what he could do with Jackson and Lynch. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/People/Coac...am_Cameron.aspx As for Grimm, he can build an O line for sure, although as RB coordinator for the Cards the offense is 28th in rushing. Granted he has done a really good job with that offensive line sack wise, considering he has less then super star players, but then Kurt Warner throws those quick slants. I doubt the Cards are in the playoffs with Matt Leinart as QB. I honestly don't get the magic Grimm has to be a head coach. -
Bills want an offensive minded coach
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank god someone in the Org is talking an offensive mind, even if Wilson doesn't admit they need one. I wouldn't mind Steve Mariucci-Cam Cameron-Brian Billick- Jason Garrett as the next Bills head coach. Only Cameron has mentored QB's with great success, Phillip Rivers, Drew Brees and now Joe flacco. -
Pats fans believe the dynasty is Over
thewildrabbit replied to CarolinaBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea well, watch in disbelief as Belichick trades for Brandon Marshall and drafts a few players for the O line, that Patriots team is one or two players away from another super bowl. -
Fewell to Giants as DC according to league sources
thewildrabbit replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is good news on so many levels. The guy is a good coach, he took over an injured mess of players and had them play some winning football. That was with a rookie play caller and the worst O line in the game. He deserves a chance to show he can correct the defense in NY. The Bills defense against the run actually improved while he was head coach. Then again... he is no longer a candidate to become the Bills head coach, and the Bills won't suffer the Tampa 2 under his hand -
Source: Frazier next Bills HC
thewildrabbit replied to buffalo1983's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What are you talking about, the last two head coaches had the Jets in the playoffs? In 04 Herm Edwards had them 10-6 and won a playoff game that got Marty fired. The Mangenius went 10-6 in 06, I'd hardly call that franchise a disaster. One of the best O lines in the NFL and the best running attack, the problem with the Jets the last 6 years has been QB injuries. BTW, who drafted Derrelle Revis...before you cannonize Rex Ryan. That "fat man" inherited a darn good team, all he did was straighten out the defense.
