  1. This Bills offense is not entirely devoid of playmakers. Lee Evans is #1 WR on a team with good offensive coaching, a decent O line and good play caller. I suspect Gailey will be very busy revising the play book, the scheme and protections. Fred Jackson may see more action in the passing game as well in Gaileys offense.
  2. Exactly, good post. Mike Mularkey also put that emphasis on special teams I believe, allowing "name" starters to play ST's. Marv also had the diminutive ST superstar Steve Tasker.
  3. If I'm Gaily I'd look at Jim Mora jr and see if he fits the scheme I want to run, jmo
  4. I agree... Although I feel that Eric Manginni built that team, drafted Darelle Revis and that offensive line and they already had a great running game when Ryan got there.
  5. He WAS the mojo, this team hasn't been even remotely close to what it was with him as GM. Now look at the Colts and what they have done since he has been GM / pres, 10+ years of winning. I'll bet he didn't need to fight tooth fang and claw with anyone at Indy to build that team, like he had to do in Buffalo.
  6. Jauron was a really good coach and well respected throughout the NFL, just not a good head coach. Jauron basically took apart everything Marv did as GM, even to the point of getting himself fired. The OC Steve Fairchild left, he promotes the QB coach to OC, fires him and promotes the QB coach again. The O line coach retires and Jauron promotes an assistant. Either he was afraid that any decent OC he hired would take his job, or he was afraid they wouldn't do their job well enough to get the team wins. I just don't buy the continuity crap he was shoveling simply because the one area on the team that needs continuity the most, Jauron changed it around every year he was in Buffalo. This last year he changed every position and then expects a 2nd year line coach to get them to play great, not to mention another OC / rookie play caller to make that offense work with a completely overhauled line. If anything, Jauron showed in his last year, it was a classic example of what not to do. If I'm RW I would Al Davis his azz and refuse to pay him what he is owed in his contract.
  7. There was a reason Dick Jauron and John Guy were fired, and Buddy Nix was hired. Almost every post I read about last seasons draft, most of the posters wanted Brian Orakpo over Maybin. Most were saying why not Michael Oher at LT to address the Jason Peters departure. Lets just hope Nix is better at evaluating talent
  8. If I were a HC and wanted a great coordinator, I'd train him myself rather then trust a hire that " might" want to his job the way I want him to do it.
  9. I'll agree. I'll also add that the starting QB Trent Green went on IR and the team suffered thru Cleo Lemon as the starter, where is Cleo Lemon now? Not to mention the GM over Cameron was Randy Mueller who was fired by Parcells, as was the DC Dom Capers also fired after his defense went into the tank. The entire team and front office was restructured after that season, so to blame everything on the HC is kinda narrow minded. If the new Dolphins HC Tony Sparano was such a great coach, then why didn't the Dolphins make the playoffs this year?
  10. Good thing Bill Polian didn't go by Marv Levy's stint at Kansas City as head coach when he hired him. You know, the one where he tried to run the winged T in the NFL
  11. You can't define any head coach after having the job for only one year, simply not fair. Jauron had 4 years and we knew he was useless after 2 1/2 years. The 3 year rule usually applies to most every head coach, if they don't have the team winning after that time, then move on. Even Chan Gailey only had 2 years in Dallas, which was still not enough. Jerry Jones stated he wished he had given Gailey more time as the Cowboys head coach. The reason you have to give a head coach more time is because you need to give them time to implement their schemes. Find out which coaches are doing a decent job or not and replace them if needed. Find and draft the players to fit your schemes, train the coaches under them and develop the QB. Sometimes a head coach goes into a team and needs to restructure the entire playbook, play calls and bring along a new QB. You can expect this to happen in Buffalo, so give Gailey at least 3 years to do his thing.
  12. I'll agree that hiring Cam Cameron would have been a marketing disaster! Yea, even worse then Gailey, at least Gailey has won before as a head coach at the NFL level. The Bills fans did implode already this year once they found that Martyball wanted to coach the Bills, but RW wasn't "comfortable" with him, which was a rumor I simply don't believe. As I stated in another post, Marty couldn't get along with A.J.Smith while at SD and A.J. fired him. Nix and A.J. Smith are friends, and Nix worked for him at SD as a scout, so he is familiar with what happened between Marty and A.J. Smith. If anyone was not comfortable with Marty it was Nix. Going back to Cam Cameron, I think the guy is far and away one of the best OC's in the NFL today. He has tutored Drew Brees , Phillip Rivers, Trent Green and Joe Flacco, so he knows how to develop a QB no question. Nix and Gailey's hire will be defined by the coordinators and assistant coaches they bring in, and schemes they will run.
  13. David Carr behind this Bills line...would make JP look good. ... I don't see David Carr listed as a FA Doubtful the Bills will switch to a 3-4 this year, tho all the posters here seem to want it. The Bills just don't have the players to fit that scheme. If the Bills grab a "splashy" vet QB I'd think it would be a trade for McNabb, Vick. My vote for a FA QB would go to Jeff Garcia,he would be cheapo and he knows what he is doing and can win some games, lets not forget the Bills need a somewhat mobile QB behind that horrid line.
  14. Nix will find another good ole boy to run the defense. As much as everyone wants a 3-4, this team is so far away from that scheme it would take two years to bring in the right players to run it. If Bates is hired they will use the 4-3, best personnel to fit it at this point.JMO I'll just be happy to finally get rid of the Tampa 2
  15. He seemed to know what he was doing in Miami, but then the HC Dave Wannstedt was also defensive minded. So perhaps he had some help with the Dolphins defense. I found an interesting article, posted a link http://www.bucem.com/2009/1/27/737218/mont...in-vs-jim-bates Hiring old retreads seemed to work for Dick Vermeil in St Loius, maybe is another good ole boy Bates was interim HC at Miami and went 3-4 and even beat the Patriots (SB team) that year. He went to Green Bay for 2 years as DC and when they fired Mike Sherman he was up for consideration as HC. They didn't hire him and he took it hard. The guy hasn't had a top defense since.
  16. Total speculation here, it will depend on who Gailey hires as his DC. The personnel already on this team would favor a 4-3, just hopefully not the Tamap 2. From a poster after he read this article: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...ough-for-bills/ # Big Stretch says: January 20, 2010 10:55 AM Already talking about changing the Defense in Buffalo. Gailey must be trying to alienate the last 50 people who think his hiring was a good idea. Read it, doubt the Bills will use a 3-4. Nix just says he likes it
  17. Ok, at first I was pissed like everyone else... Then I thought about it, Nix is friends with SD GM A.J.Smith and worked for him at San Diego as a scout. Now if any of you recall, Marty was fired in SD because he couldn't get along with A.J.Smith. Now if your Nix would you want Marty as your HC, I think not.
  18. The Bills let the dufas Jauron have the most say,and all he wanted to do was draft DB's... This year Buddy Nix will be drafting and I'll wager he will start with the left tackle position and not some puny DE. The Bills could have had Oher or Orakpo
  19. 40 years... then you remember the media stories about Marv Levy when he was first hired for the Bills and they jumped on him for trying to run the wing T at KC, they were brutal at first. Then the Bills started to win and everyone forgot that Marv tried to run the wing T, plus it helped that he hired Ted Marchibroda to run the offense for Buffalo.
  20. He and Al Davis can have a WC race to the...
  21. Good Lord!!!! We could have had Martyball ... ... Jeez, NFL network is reporting the Bills could have hired Gailey as the OC and he would have jumped at the chance. not comfortable = doesn't want to pay him Buddy Nix, good ole boy hired his good ole boy Chan Gailey
  22. Before you burst a vessel... take a breath and relax. Lets see who he hires as his DC and OC, strength and conditioning coach and others. Lord I hope we move away from the Martz passing offense and Tampa 2 defense. The Bills had a few really good assistant coaches under Jauron, it was his schemes and stupidity that screwed the team.
  23. Interesting article, he has some points. I think it all comes down to who he hires as his assistants, it really will depend on who Gailey hires as his OC- DC- Lines coaches et al. My biggest concern if this team is to succeed in any regard is to hire the best strength and conditioning coach they can find. The team can't even begin to win games with 22 players in IR.
