Quarterback and the draft
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalonian-at-Heart's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all the Bills could easily get a shot at Bradford and Clausen as both are coming off injuries, Bradford shoulder surgery and Clausen foot surgery. That is of course if they both stink it up at their pro days. If they both perform very poorly it will raise lots of question marks and they will slide, lotta dough for a maybe. Rams-Yes Lions-No Buccaneers-No Redskins-Yes-Shanahan needs someone to develop Chiefs-No Seahawks-Yes Browns-Yes-sent Quinn packing, Holmgren needs someone to develop Raiders-no OTOH four teams ahead of the Bills could draft a QB, I'm hoping that the Bills draft Tebow in the 2nd round as he will bring some excitement to Buffalo again. http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/hol...ord-339657.html -
I disagree, Bledsoe took the Patriots to the super bowl. Think about it, if Bledsoe had stayed with the Patriots his entire career like McNabb has stayed with Philly i'm pretty sure the two would have very comparable stats. Like I stated in an eariler post, McNabb has a "no trade" clause in his contract, which doesn't mean he can't be traded, it simply means he can choose which teams he gets traded to, he isn't coming to Buffalo!

Why the Bills should be better in 2010.
thewildrabbit replied to Coach55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just the fact that a new head coach with an OFFENSIVE background is in charge makes me feel better about the up coming year. Dick Jauron had a defensive back ground and yet still tried to run an out dated defense that was horrid against the run. Michael Lombardi on the NFL network stated that the Tampa 2 has been around so long that many many teams have formulated plays to take advantage of that scheme. He went on to say that teams like the GB Packers had set up around 12-15 plays that they knew would work against the cover 2 and any team on any given Sunday. Payton Manning knew how to beat that defense 5 years ago, and did so on a regular basis. Jauron was a hard worker and that's about it, he was not an innovator like Bill Belichick and never will be. In today's NFL you need a head coach with a brain like Sean Payton who creates new plays every game plan, and then changes the way the offense runs each week so that defenses can never get an actual lock on exactly what your offense will do every game. The last few years the Buffalo Bills offense was so predictable each week it was laughable. This next year so many things are changing on the team and it may take some time before the players understand the new defense and offense, at least now... I have some hope for the future. -
Interesting note about 2002, no really great QB stood out in the draft so they went after Drew Bledsoe and got burned, then Bills went LT in the draft and got burned again by Mike Williams. One more reason I'm hoping Nix knows what he is doing in terms of evaluating talent, draft that LT and if no QB is worthy this year... then wait for next year instead of giving up valuable picks. That #2 for McNabb might be the starting LB or NT for the Bills for the next 10 years

Do any of you McNabb wannabies have a clue about what it would take for an older QB like McNabb to come into a new system to have to learn that system, with very inexperienced linemen, and new coaches that don't even know the system either, and one decent receiver on the roster. You guys must have the mindset that because he is decent in Philly that once traded to Buffalo the entire Philly offense comes with him, it doesn't! Don't say look at Brett Farve either, because in Minn they are running the very same offensive system he used in GB, the very same OC that he played for in GB is now running the offense in Minn. I really don't need to worry because McNabb would take one look at the Bills offense and he has a no trade clause ...which in essence means he can void any trade to a team he doesn't care to go to, he is not coming to Buffalo. (thank god)

I don't get why different is always better with some people... The Bills didn't suck because they didn't have a QB, they sucked because they lacked a OC with experience, they lacked a head coach who knew how to build an offense, they lacked a proper game plan, they lacked a decent offensive system, and above all they lacked a decent O line. The O-line was particularly horrid... with each player having very little experience and so many injuries, it was an out and out nightmare for the Bills QB's all season. The ONLY player on the O line that was there for every game was the center. There isn't a QB / man on this earth that would have had a successful season in the offense the Bills put on the field last season, that is the reason Ralph Wilson blew up the team! Donovan McNabb might have been good a few years ago when he could scramble, not anymore. He has had a recent history of injuries behind an O line 1000% better then anything the Bills have fielded, along with better coaching, players, game plan, system. If the Bills pull the trigger on McNabb and give up any draft picks it will be about the worst move in team history IMO

Nix is passing on quality free agents
thewildrabbit replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What is the saying... You can't teach an old dog new tricks? I look back at Langston Walker and Derick Dockery and think the Bills don't feel like paying a bunch of money to older players who may or may not be in top form, they were burned by those high priced free agents. There is a point when these older players hit that proverbial wall and are done. Why did the Buc's and Pats not resign Watson and Bryant? Watson is a pass catching TE, the Bills have some of those and need a dominate blocking TE. The Bills have 3 young WR's on the team, lets see if they can play. Sorry, but I'm happy that the Bills are NOT diving into a free agent pool of older losers who are at the end of their careers. -
Yea, the four guys we had last year that couldn't stay in their gaps and tie up the five O-blockers... so they are gonna now try and tie up five guys with 3 and let the LB's try and make the tackles

Why the Bills Shouldnt Draft a QB This Year
thewildrabbit replied to Jsi922's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Should this new Bills GM and coaching staff NOT address the left tackle position at some point then this team is as doomed as the Jauron teams. If they don't go LT with that #9 in the draft then they should go after Mark Tauscher, the Packers line suddenly got way better last season once he started playing again. Shoot, I think they should sign the guy just to have a qualified starter at LT while the young players are learning the ropes. -

Kelly's injury was very serious as he had pins inserted to hold it in place. Drew Brees also has had a bad shoulder injury... and we all know how that turned out. Good thing the Dolphins passed on that injured shoulder So yea, if the surgery goes right, as does the rehab and the player fully recovers from the injury, then it is a non factor. As I stated earlier the scouts will find out if Bradford's arm is OK at his pro day, if he is at full arm strength he will go in the top 5, if not... he could slide quite a ways. -
Why the Bills Shouldnt Draft a QB This Year
thewildrabbit replied to Jsi922's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing is both the so called "franchise" QB's in this draft have injuries they are rehabbing from, Clausen foot, Bradford arm. Clausen is closer to being a "right now" player because he was in the ND pro style offense and ran in a pro style system under Charlie Weiss, Mike Mayock equates him with Mark Sanchez. Bradford is more Matt Ryan, but has already suffered two shoulder injuries in college and once you injure a shoulder it has a tendency to become more susceptible to another injury. Bradford has looked great in college because his O line was very solid and he was hardly ever touched in most games. In the games where he was hit and harassed he didn't play well at all. Both of these guys are huge unknowns and once they preform at their pro days it will give the scouts some insight as to how they have recovered from their injuries. My take... yea the Bills need a really good QB, but they might already have one in the three they currently have on the roster. All three are young and still learning and could really develop well under a decent offensive mind in Chan Gailey. C'mon guys, how could any QB on the Bills roster develop under Dick Jauron and his staff of clowns, they couldn't...they didn't. Build up the O line and see what you have in the 3 young QB's on the team. If they all fail behind a good O line then we all positively know it is them and not the coaches, the system, the line. P.S.The last thing I would do is draft Bradford to play behind the current Bills O line, he wouldn't survive the first few games and re-injure that shoulder, another wasted first round draft pick. -
Conspiracy theory regarding the Bills
thewildrabbit replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First, don't you think the Bills are still stinging from the Langston Walker / Derrick Dockery free agent signings? I think they are, and would like to be more frugal and make wiser decisions about who they sign. The Bills already addressed a RT position and signed a seasoned vet who can bring some leadership to this very inexperienced line. You gotta know that they need to address the LT position in the draft with that #9 pick. Second, the Chan Gailey hiring was all from Buddy Nix, he needed somebody he could trust to run the team the way he wants. We all need to wait and see what kind of team Gailey puts on the field before we crucify him. Third, My take is Nix wants to rebuild the team mostly from the draft and not from other teams rejects. Lets face facts, if a player was really that good then why would the team let them leave in free agency...they wouldn't and they don't! -
Sam Bradford scored a 36, that puts him around Payton Manning
-
I agree with the Bolden part, and I doubt that if Troy Smith was a quality back up they would let him go for a 5th round pick. In the NFL it makes sense to keep every player that can benefit your team, even if they don't want to be there. Considering how many QB's get injured each year why would they let him go for such a low price?
-
The thing is, QB's usually take 3-4 years to develop "if" they are kept in the same system, same coaches, same team. The Bills currently have 3 relatively young QB's on the roster and different isn't always better. My take on the Bills QB situation is Trent Edwards has shown flashes that he can be really good given decent protection and a good game plan, (week one at NE)among others. This coaching staff needs to build a decent O line and scheme and see if Edwards can fit that scheme, he is after all just going into his 4th year. Leave Edwards as the starter and see how he preforms in training camp. Then, I'd say let the Bills draft a OT 1st pick and the Tim Tebow with the 2nd pick as Mike Mayock gave Tebow a glowing endorsement stating this guy could be a great QB in 2 years in given time to develop properly and learn NFL techniques. The Bills could use Tebow in various situations similar to the "wildcat" while teaching him and letting him play part time, like Vick is doing in Philly. P.S. I wouldn't give anything for McNabb much less that #9 pick this year, the guy has been injured off and on the past few years and he would be horrid behind a very inexperienced Bills line. Plus the Bills have so many areas of needs I wouldn't give away a 3rd rounder for Troy Smith either, that pick could be a starting LB or NT.

Kelly wants the Bills to draft Tebow.
thewildrabbit replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kelly's problem is more of the NFL caught up to him and the Bills style of play, plus the departure of both Bill Polian and Ted Marchibroda. The offense stayed exactly the same and nobody with a brain was instructing Kelly properly. Had the Bills somehow kept Polian there is no doubt in my mind they would have won a super bowl. -
They just Railed Us on NFL Network (LINK)
thewildrabbit replied to Silvercrw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's no wonder they were all laughing at the Buffalo Bills... To add the new GM just hired a head coach that was fired from a job as an OC, from a team that is struggling to win just like the Bills. Then the new HC hires a bunch of college coaches for his assistants. To top it off, Gailey will try and implement the 3-4 with Tampa 2 players and change the offense to his "pistol". 5-11 or 2-14... yea somewhere around there, just keeping it real -
Is Anybody Getting Season Tickets This Year?
thewildrabbit replied to box0life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The real problem with the blind faith people who purchase season tickets is that it keeps the owner from going all out one way or the other. To either sell the team to a different owner who really wants to win and will spend the money to put a top product on the field, or to make him cough up the money to hire a real head coach and GM. If the Bills continue to sell out games what incentive is there for real change? All I currently see is three more years of mediocrity or less. -

Is Anybody Getting Season Tickets This Year?
thewildrabbit replied to box0life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great expectations The odds that the Bills win the super bowl are 100 to 1, same as the teams listed below. Detroit Lions Cleveland Browns Kansas City Chiefs Buffalo Bills Oakland Raiders St Louis Rams Tampa Bay Buccaneers You guys realistically think that a team that is converting both offensive and defensive schemes... run by a head coach that was fired last season as an offensive coordinator of one of those lowly seven bottom teams, who hired a bunch of college assistant coaches can somehow resurrect this team to respectability? If you want to purchase season tickets because its fun to bond with friends at games, that's fine. If you want to go to see the star players on others teams, that's fine also. Understand this, the reality is that the Bills will be lucky to win 5 games this season no matter who they draft or bring in as free agents, I believe they will be contending for the #1 overall for 2011. They may be contenders for the playoffs in 3 years, If Wilson doesn't blow up the team again before then. -
Let's Face Facts, Shall We?
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pretty funny right now if you ask me Both Bradford and Clausen are coming off surgery and both have concerns because of that. I'd at least wait until I see them at their pro day before I cantonize them. But hey, that's just me -
Let's Face Facts, Shall We?
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perhaps you guys have faith in Buddy Nix, look who he hired as his HC. Sorry, but I have no faith in this man until he proves otherwise. He could have hired Gailey as the offensive coordinator and he probably would have jumped at the Job. Now Gailey goes out and hires a bunch of college assistants. Even Nix stated at his presser that he wanted a HC with experience because of the steep learning curve in the NFL. So looking at this new coaching staff and GM it looks like at least a 3 year plan just to become somewhat competitive. The AFC East is going to be a very tough division and the weakest team by far looks to be the Bills because they are changing both the offense and defense schemes. I wonder what marketing move the front office will pull off to sell this team to the fans in 2010, to me I just don't see them selling this team this year. I also wonder how much tolerance for losing the fans will have with this new regime, if the Bills are vying for the 2011 #1 overall draft pick by mid-season will RW blow everything up again? -
If you are gonna throw out names... Why not Jim Sorgi who was released by the Colts after holding a clipboard behind Peyton Manning for 6 years. The move by the Colts was to save paying him a roster bonus, I'll bet they plan on resigning him at some point because the current backups are Curtis Painter and Drew Willy

Don't worry about the lack of name players
thewildrabbit replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mr. Wilson blew up the entire coaching staff and the team is in full rebuilding mode. Don't expect big named free agents, think cheap in every aspect. It almost makes me wonder if the Bills will trade out of the #9 spot to get more picks considering they need so many positions filled, it is also less expensive to do that. -
I dunno, I'm not entirely sold on who he chose as head coach, then who the HC chose as assistants. But then will the front office even allow Nix to do his job by selecting the players the team needs to win... or the players the front office wants to bring in to sell tickets? This team needs to address the O line in a big way, both LT-RT-G and a blocking tight end. Definitely not sexy picks and may not sell many tickets, but they will start to win more games and build a solid foundation for a strong team.
