  1. If Spiller is as good as Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson...then why on earth would the Bills give him away? The Bills have two really good running backs atm in Lynch and Jackson but neither is a "franchise" back. Freddy is older and Lynch has to many personal problems. I'd say grab the best player available, if that is CJ Spiller, then draft him!
  2. Considering Chan Gailey has a history of building really good running games I wouldn't be upset at CJ Spiller, as long as they address the LT position at some point. I would even be upset at Spiller with #1 and Tebow #2.
  3. Sorry, but you will never make the case to me that the QB's have been the problem and not the coaches. Explain to me then why Ralph Wilson just blew up his entire coaching staff, while Trent Edwards is still with the team? Seriously, you can honestly say that the Bills last two offensive coordinators have been good enough ? Lets face facts shall we, where is Turk Schonert now? If he was decent and it was all the QB's fault he would have a job as OC or at least as a QB coach, he doesn't. AVP was at least hired to be a QB coach again. For my money the lack of experience in OC coaches has ruined JP and possibly TE. Not for nothing, but isn't it the coaches duties to figure out a game plan to beat the opponent and not the QB's duty? What happened to the 1/2 time strategy session where the coaches go over whats working and what isn't and make the proper changes to correct mistakes and make adjustments to win the game? The QB is simply a pawn of the offensive coordinator and he does what he is told, the OC calls the plays he thinks will work and the QB goes out and does his best to execute what is called. It is up to the coaches to put the players into position to make plays! Roscoe Parrish has been one of the most under used players on the roster. Talk about a waste of 6 million dollars in signing T.O.,then again it got the fans to buy tickets. What if the defense is so familiar with the play calls that the primary, secondary receivers are covered and the QB has 3 seconds or less to find that 3rd or 4th outlet and deliver the ball. Not like the Bills are deep in talent so that the opponents only need to cover one guy, instead of three or four. So yea, It was lack of talent everywhere, coaching, O line, receivers, TE, FB.The Bills have had a few above average players on offense the last few years. Lee Evens, Fred Jackson, Marshawn Lynch, Trent Edwards. Edwards has had his a$$ handed to him so many times the last two years I wouldn't be surprised to find out he is finished as an NFL QB.
  4. I'd say some of both... Back in the 80's when the team was 2-14 they were bad enough to warrant change and the owner made changes to the coaching staff again and again, but it wasn't until Bill Polian was hired as GM from 1986 to 1993 did the Bills start to get good. Kinda funny that he got the job only because the GM at the time had a heart attack and he was able to sign Bruce Smith in the GM's place. Not like anyone at OBD was smart enough to tag this guy as GM on merit alone. Notice the correlation of 1986-1993, they started to get good after 86 and started to go south after 93. Shoot, I didn't know Bill Polian from a bag of beans, and when he hired Marv Levy, who at the time the media crucified as running the wing T at KC as his other NFL HC gig, I was very skeptical about them both. But then Polian had talked Ralph Wilson into coughing up the money to pay Jim Kelly,a huge coup for Polian. The guy had to fight tooth fang and claw to convince the owner you need to spend money to make money. Then the media announced that the Bills / Marv Levy had hired Ted Marchibroda as the offensive coordinator, as soon as I read about that hiring and saw how they had started to change for the better in 87. I purchased season tickets in 1988 and held them until 1994, they were awesome seats because nobody wanted season tickets back then. I knew Ted Marchibroda from his days as HC with the Colts and a QB named Bert Jones in the late 70's. Ted mentored Bert Jones and I knew the type of offense he would run in Buffalo with Jim Kelly, I was excited. What I'm trying to say here is, that "IF" the Buffalo Bills are to regain their glory of the early 90's, they will need to start at the top with the GM. then a good head coach, great offensive coordinator, some great players. The current state of the franchise: They hired a new GM and HC, and the HC hired a bunch of college coaches...(uh oh,learning curve). The Bills haven't been lousy enough to get the #1 overall pick... so they won't get a boy named Suh! Currently the Bills don't have one super star on their entire roster, NOT ONE! Some players on defense might reach that point eventually, and Lee Evans and Fred Jackson are close, but no cigar. They don't have Jim Kelly, Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, no O line, and by the time they do get a build a team and O line and get a star QB, both Lee Evans and Fred Jackson will be ready to retire. From my view, all you current season ticket holders are in "hope mode" and still hoping the Bills can regain their form from the early 90's. Sorry, but I don't see playoffs for at least 3+ years, and winning a playoff game in the AFC East might take 5 years, providing that Nix and Gailey are indeed the answer. So if you can afford to back an inferior product, feel free. They won't get my money until I know the owner will spend the money to put the product on the field and sidelines. The guy owns a near billion dollar franchise and runs it like a k-mart. This latest debacle with losing Jason Peters and then not replacing him in the draft shows me that the owner doesn't care enough about winning to hire competent personnel to run his team, and perhaps still doesn't.
  5. Do you remember the Denver game in 07, JP drives down the field and the Bills are on the Denver 30 yd line, he looked good and was doing well on that first drive until... First down at the 30, Rookie Marshawn Lynch misses the blitz pick up and JP is sacked back at the 45 yd line. Denver started blitzing, and because the Bills had changed linemen again this off season... the line and protections lacked cohesiveness because of a new O line coach, and a new OC, and new players. Offense takes time to develop, more so then a defense, things need to stay the same year after year and the longer the players work and play together the better they get at it. Jauron changed linemen every year, not to mention play callers changed almost as often, 6 different play callers in 5 years Mularkey took over calling plays from his OC in 05, Fairchild, Schonert, Alex Van Pelt. This past season every player on the entire O line was changed and two rookies started, the other three had very little experience. It was almost like playing behind a complete rookie O line in 09. Is it any wonder why everyone thinks all the Bills QB's suck... Mr. Ralph Wilson blew up the entire coaching staff for a reason
  6. I disagree, Fairchild was never a real OC as Mike Martz called the plays in St Louis. Besides, look how many changes JP had to endure as his QB coach, head coach and offensive coordinator. It was like a constant revolving door on offense. How could any player develop properly under those conditions? Kinda funny how each and every QB since JP has regressed game after game, they start out looking decent and eventually turn to crap. JP-TE-Fitz Did you notice that the Vince Lombardi super bowl trophy is named after a coach and not a player or owner! Coaches make or break teams IMO, and the Bills have had horrible offensive coaches for 10 years or more.
  7. There are 7 tackles that will go in the first round, maybe more. I'd be open minded if the Bills went CJ Spiller, Dez Bryant as long as its offense. Then go LT with the #2 pick. This draft is the deepest it has ever been for tackles, there are 7-5 star tackles and 7-4 star tackles. That is 14 decent tackles in round one and two
  8. np. The Bills QB's have been so handicapped by their surrounding cast the last few years you simply can't properly evaluate them by the tape. Gailey will implement his offense and his playbook and see who gets it and who doesn't, and then start the guy who shows he can get the job done. Hopefully the Bills correct the huge mistake they made last year by not addressing the LT position and replace Jason Peters with someone who can stay healthy and do the job at LT.
  9. Bump for the people who might wanna watch
  10. If the Bills draft a defensive player with that #9 pick ...I'll go then I'll TEN YEARS of 25th or worst on offense in the NFL says it all...
  11. How soon we forget... J.P. Losmen was supposed to have a breakout year in 07 after finishing a strong end of 06. Lots of analysts predicted good things for the Bills in 07. The problem was: the Bills changed offensive coordinators from a slightly experienced Steve Fairchild who worked under Mike Martz in St Louis as an OC but never actually called plays, Martz called them. Then the Bills went from a coach who had some semblance of what he was doing to a complete tool in Turk Schonert. (BTW, where is turk now?) Turk stunk it up and was fired and replaced by another inexperienced QB coach in Alex Van Pelt. How on gods green earth can anyone correctly evaluate the QB play the last 3-4 years when they were coached by people who didn't know what they were doing. What amazes me is that Jauron and his staff of clowns were paid millions as professionals, they should be arrested for stealing. If I'm Ralph Wilson I wouldn't pay any of them a dime after firing them all, and cite total incompetence.
  12. Good point... Not only that, think about the Rams a min. They had Curt Warner under contract and let him go because they "thought" they had the franchise QB in Marc Bulger who looked really good behind a top O line and on a super bowl caliber team... WHAT HAPPENED? to that "franchise" QB in Bulger? He was pounded game after game and surrounded by lesser players and he now is a shell of what he started out to be because of inept coaching and poor players acquired, kinda like last years Buffalo Bills.
  13. Matthews has always stunk on football, I can recall sending him letters back in the 70's because some of his articles on the Bills had the stats all wrong. Which showed me he didn't even research on the subject he was writing about, it still makes me wonder how he has kept his job all these years.
  14. On NFL Network Thursday 7PM 3/18 Should be interesting to hear what they say
  15. Cowher stated he would have hired Gailey as his OC and changed the defense to a 3-4. He felt that the Bills didn't have a top QB and it took him years and years to find Big Ben, so he really didn't want the job. Losing out on Bill Cowher doesn't bother me as much as not hiring Marty Schottenheimer, who really wanted the job BTW. It stands to reason that if the Bills had hired "Marty" that he would have lured his son away from the Jets to be the Bills OC and eventual head coach, who the Bills wanted to hire as HC, and he turned down the job. Rumor was that RW didn't feel "comfortable" hiring Marty, perhaps it goes back to his last job at SD where he didn't get along with GM (ex Bill scout) A.J. Smith. I dunno...all I do know is Marty has a remarkable history of turning around bad teams and making them into playoff teams.
  16. I would agree with the Bills need a competent receiving tight end...they also needed a blocking tight end, a better full back. A better O line, a better game plan, a better play book, a better play caller, a better scheme, better coaching. I can recall watching corner blitzes coming and the QB see's it and the WR doesn't (Josh Reed) because he isn't looking, if he did notice that the guy covering him just dropped to run the other way and he was wide freaking open for about three seconds... but if the WR is to stupid to pay attention to details like that. That could have been a huge play, how many years do you give these guys to become smart players, Roscoe Parrish is the same way. I know this is just one play, but I have seen this type of thing happen so many times the last few years. I think it all comes down to coaching, which has been lacking on the offensive side of the ball for 10 years. Hopefully things start to change as the players learn how to do things properly. Bottom line , how can you judge any player on the offensive side of the ball when they were lead by incompetents.
  17. I watched it once last year, even recorded it and then deleted it as its just to painful to watch more then once. I get the feeling that Bills fans are more desperate for a ring then the owner is...
  18. Good article on the Bills from CBS Sport.com and Clark Judge No matter who the choice is, look for the Bills to be committed to the run now more than ever. Gailey tailors his offenses to his talent, and the talent here is at running back, not quarterback. Plus, Gailey has had a history of success running the football, whether it was at Pittsburgh with Jerome Bettis, at Dallas with Emmitt Smith or at Miami with Lamar Smith. Gailey believes in winning with the run, and considering the weather in Buffalo, he should. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/1307324...overlist_footer I can only dream of a Bills team like the current NY Jets / Ravens have, I still smile when I recall last seasons AFC playoff game IN New England where the Ravens pounded the ball down the pats throats for a 33-14 win. Did I ever mention that Joe Flacco went 4-10 for 34 yards total all game, he played the entire game. Pats fans were literally crying after that game stating the dynasty is over.
  19. I kinda disagree, how good could Bruce Smith have been if he had played on a bad team, in a crap scheme. With no Daryl Tally behind him to make the tackles that he whiffed on trying to rush the passer. How good would Reggie White be every game on bad teams eating three blockers every down. I think you guys tend to underestimate just how bad that Bills Tampa 2 scheme was against the run, along with certain players.
  20. I agree, Stroud is not the problem when he is healthy. My take is that Jauron's and Fewell's scheme lacked discipline and the LB's were out of position and players were constantly blowing assignments against the run. Anyway, I am just happy as hell the Bills will no longer be running an outdated cover 2 scheme
  21. Yea, but to a lot of players it is more then just a game. There are tons of players who would play pro football for very little money, for the love of the game. Jerry Rice will be remembered forever as one of the greatest WR's to ever play the game. How great do you think he would be on on an 80's bad team like Tampa Bay-Detroit-Buffalo. Plus the life span of an average player is about 3 years, so even getting a SB ring is a rare event most would cherish the rest of their lives. What you need to realize is that some players have life long dreams of going into the pro football hall of fame, you can't buy your way into there.
  22. The problem is he can't gain yardage constantly running into the backs of his blockers because there is no hole. I acknowledge that this would be a great pick if the Bills had even a decent O line...they don't. Look at the NY Jets / Ravens and their O line, basically any RB / QB can be good behind those lines.
  23. Kind of a ridiculous prediction considering at least 7 tackles or more will go in the first round. I tend to think the fact that the Bills are desperate for a top LT and will draft one no matter who is still on the board
  24. Lets face facts, the Bills were a bad team under Dick Jauron and bad teams find ways to lose a game. From his first year with the Bills the O line kept making mistakes game after game, he corrected that and another problem area would pop up. The guy never had a handle on the entire team. His defenses were always bad against the run, his offenses stunk because of the inexperience of the play callers and lousy game plans. The fact that the Bills were in a ton of games and even won some tells me that they were decent and won despite the coaching. From what I saw the skill level on the field from the players was good enough to win, it was the coaching holding them back. Look at how many average players that left the Bills went on to play pretty good elsewhere. I feel bad for players like Lee Evans who saw the last four years of their career wasted because a moron like Jauron was in charge.
