  1. Correct me if I'm wrong... Chan Gailey was with the Chiefs for only the 08 season, he was at Georgia Tech from 02-07, and then wasn't he fired just before the 09 season started and just before jauron fired schonert? The Chiefs went 2-14 with Chan Gailey as OC and Herman Edwards as HC The QB's in 08 Tyler Thigpin had 11 GS 230 comp 420 attempts 54.8 comp % 18 TD and 12 INTs Damon Huard had 3 GS 50 comp 81 attempts 61.7 comp % 2 TD's 4 INTs Brodie Croyle had 2 GS 20 comp 29 attempts 69.0 comp % 0 TDs 0 INTs The RB's in 08 Larry Johnson rushed for 193 Attempts 874 yds in 5TDs -12 GS Jamaal Charles 57 attempts 357 0 TDs-2 GS Kolby Smith 35 attepts 100 yds 1 TD-3 GS Not a real glowing endorsement for a hire as a HC IMO. The Bills beat the Chiefs that year 54-31. In fact I think he got Herm Edwards fired, rofl Just to add, I didn't dig into the Chiefs 08 season very deeply but my take is that they were always playing from behind and threw the ball more often to play catch up, kinda like they did against the Bills. Defenses tend to play prevent and lay back allowing more passes underneath when they get a lead. If that is truly the case then that might be the exact reason as to why Thigpin is now a 3rd stringer in Miami. One poster here stated: Case in point: Thigpen looked like a Pro Bowler in KC when Gailey was there. ..really?
  2. Jeez, If only nevergiveup had posted this...
  3. I did read the final paragraph and you did make some good points about upgrading the line and who to bring in. My problem was that you opened your post by stating that "The Titan offense is a joke without Chris Johnson." Which is not exactly true now is it, considering that line only allowed 16 sacks all season. Not to mention that they have several decent veteran blocking/ receiving tight ends as well. Chris Johnson is a special back no doubt, but to state that the entire Titan offense is a joke without him is simply lame IMO. The Titans only went 8-8 in 09, so that 2000+ yards rushing and escape-ability didn't propel them into a superbowl now did it?- they went 13-3 in 08, and 10-6 in 07 without Chris Johnson. You can drink the Chan Gaily kool-aid and think that Spiller will make an impact much the same way Chris Johnson did for the Titans, I don't think he will...not unless the Bills can import the entire Tennessee O line You can take either take offense to this post or answer my original question... Now, even if chan gailey was the most brilliant play caller in the NFL or the most brilliant QB coach in the NFL, exactly how does that equate to giving the QB more then 3 seconds to throw the football?
  4. Should the Bills make moves to upgrade the team at Receiver and Left Tackle? Do you guys buy what this new regime is selling, that is another rebuilding season. Rebuilding is what this franchise has been doing for the last decade. This entire season could depend on what this new GM / FO / HC do in the up coming weeks. Should the Bill NOT make any trades or free agency moves we can all expect this season to be filled with many losses and many unhappy weekends, it will again suck to be a Bills fan for 2010. The Bills need to do a few things to make a real run at being competitive this year, calling this year a "rebuilding" year is an excuse for losing! Then they will spew the same garbage jauron spewed at us, even after 4 years of drafting and free agency the team still lacks talent!! I say BS... the team lacked talent in scouting, choosing draft picks, on the sidelines and in play calling / game planning. I dunno about the rest of you fans but should the Bills call this a rebuilding year and refuse to make any further moves to upgrade the team, then I refuse to support them and will not buy merchandise, game tickets. Sadly for you guys I will still come here and vent What I think the Bills should do is...there are still viable options at WR & LT that could perhaps help this team to win games and even sell some tickets once fan faith is restored. They could resign TO or another veteran FA receiver to help the passing game. Then sign Flozell Adams or make a trade for Jared Gaither, pick up a veteran free agent LT, there is still time to make moves. I can only hope this new regime doesn't pull a jauron and go into this season as is. Some moves would at least show me they recognize they have some serious issues at certain positions and will attempt to correct them. http://profootball.scout.com/a.z?s=127&amp...rc=16&pid=3 Do you guys buy the "rebuilding" line?
  5. Thanks dog, I just don't see how play calling alone is going to help the team throw while the QB is getting killed. Anyway, Turk Schonert was an idiot, Alex Van Pelt called the plays in that game against New England., its why AVP still has a job in the NFL and the is playing golf. The Bills couldn't run the ball in the 4th QTR to control the clock against the Pats and suffered the loss for it. The Bills played very well offensively at times against NE in that opener, lets not forget that Bill Belichick's forte is game planning another team "after" watching tape on them, he made adjustments during the game. The Bills ran lots of successful screen plays and Edwards made a few first downs by running. It looked like a jailbreak many many times and the Bills had a decent play called against it. Trent Edwards played pretty sharp most of that game because he hadn't taken a brutal pounding in previous games. Lets not forget that on the second to last play of that game Edwards was sacked for a big loss and Bell allowed that sack, that spin move by TBC owned Bell.
  6. That first statement about Tennessee kinda destroys your credibility... RT David Stewart 15 GS- 6 years exp LT Michael Roos 16 GS -6 years exp -pro bowler C Kevin Mawae 16 GS 15 years 8 time pro bowler LG Jake Scott 16 GS - 7 years exp RG Eugene Amano 15 GS-7 yrs exp The above players who played all 16 games took 1039 game snaps, this 2009 offensive line was second in the NFL in allowing sacks, at just 16 sacks... Chris Johnson did have a 2k yd rushing season, but just think how well Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch could do with the blocking that Johnson got. Not to mention how well Trent Edwards would play if he was behind that O line. Also, its doubtful he suffers his second concussion in two years playing behind that Tenn O line, instead he played behind an inept, inexperienced, below average ability line, and on a team with a rookie game planner / play caller. Now, even if chan gailey was the most brilliant play caller in the NFL or the most brilliant QB coach in the NFL, exactly how does that equate to giving the QB more then 3 seconds to throw the football?
  7. How can the problems be corrected when the O line is still a big a question mark as it was last season, or even more so? Show me the difference between dickhead jauron and chan gailey, both ignored the most important position on the O line in the draft and free agency at left tackle. Now this new butthead coach is trying something even more stupid then Jauron did, and that is to get a 7th rounder coming off a torn ACL to hold down the left tackle position. Wood is coming off a severe leg injury and is also a big question mark. The only player to play all 16 games last season did so with a bad back, so wtf does anyone know if he can sustain another 16 game season with his back problems? If you just look at the problems this team had last year with the offensive line and they have 3 players returning from injuries that they may or may not completely recover from. Then they have another scrub veteran they got from the Raiders, as if Langston Walker wasn't bad enough. chan gailey might know how to run an offense better then jauron, but he sure doesn't have a clue how to build an O line if he is following the same road jauron took. Now, explain to me how the QB's will get better playing for gailey when they won't have time to throw or adequate protections, just like last season
  8. Your absolutely correct, I'm not ready to accept it...and neither should any head coach. That rebuilding crap is for 1-15 / 2-14 teams, this Bills team has been rebuilding for TEN YEARS! Every time they hire a new head coach he has to implement his schemes and system and players and it hasn't worked yet! This team was like 5 players away from being very good and most every Bills fan knows exactly what positions needed filling. (Left tackle)-(Right Tackle)- (Starting WR) -(OLB)-(NT for the 3-4) Ignoring that one position is going to haunt this team just like it did last season when jauron ignored it. The Bills could have addressed the WR position by making a play for Brandon Marshal- Anquan Bolden-Santonio Holms, instead the Dolphins, Jets and Ravens got way better. When Marv Levy was hired his first statement was " we are going to get as good as we can, as fast as we can!" Rebuilding is for losers and is an excuse for losing.
  9. Like Michael Lombardi of the NFL network has stated, "the Bills are tough to play and easy to beat" Jaurons Teams were out coached, out game planned and faced better schemes and players for the most part. Look at the teams the Bills beat, Buc's-Jets-Panthers-Dolphins-Chiefs-Colts. Two of those teams were clearly worse then the Bills in many areas Buc's-Chiefs. The Jets, Dolphins and Panthers allowed their QB's to throw countless INT's while their running game was owning Buffalo. Miami had Chad Henne starting as Pennington was injured, he threw 3 picks while Rickey W threw another. Sanchez learned about the horrid weather conditions in NY and threw 5 ints, Jake D played like an Idiot and the Panthers let him continue to turn the ball over. The Colts game was a gimmie as they pulled Payton Manning at 1/2 time. I'd like to point out that the Bills players did play much better once Jauron was fired and Perry Fewell replaced him. Heck, even the run defense even got better under Fewell. In 09 Buffalo's O line looked about as bad as I've ever seen a Bills line play and the new GM / coaching regime only replaced the RT with a vet scrub from Oakland. The new coaching staff is filled with a bunch of inexperienced college coaches and assistants, very few veteran experienced NFL coaches. Brand new offensive and defensive schemes being taught by coaches that themselves are learning on the job doesn't give me much hope that this team can turn it around in one or two years.
  10. Every head coach that gets hired figures he has at the very least the length of his contract to prove he can turn the team into a winner. Clearly Jauron figured after his extension he would have time to develop Aaron Maybin, even if it took 2-3 years. What coaches don't realize is that it is a "win now" league. Drafting players that need 2-3 years to develop can kill a coach. Kay Stephenson drafted Bruce Smith, a lot of good it did him. I'm sure Cam Cameron thought he had more then one year in Miami, and 1-15 did him in. Bottom line, I like Chan Gailey and really want to see him get a shot at further developing Trent Edwards, but looking at that O line and both tackle and center positions needing upgrades, and then he ignores them in the draft and free agency so far. It shows me he can't develop any QB who is playing behind such a bad line. I'll still cheer for the Bills and hope that Gailey proves me wrong, although I highly doubt it. I suppose I'll await his firing and hope for the Bills owner to finally get fed up with losing. Something which he will never do as long as fans keep buying tickets. People forget what prompted RW to hire Chuck Knox ...10 straight years of losing to the Dolphins. He got very lucky with Bill Polian after back to back 2-14 seasons. Just don't forget that Polian was only promoted because the incumbent GM had a heart attack. Its not like Polian was hand picked to build the team, he fell into the job.
  11. Amen brother... Plus the Bills new O line coach is an assistant from KC... that gives me some peace of mind Look at it this way, should the Bills lose enough to be in position to draft next years #1 overall ...I highly doubt Gailey will still be the head coach. Looking at the draft and the way the team is being built with no real changes to the O line-QB-WR positions, I believe the Bills hired an offensive minded Dick Jauron. How this franchise can keep paying millions of dollars to inferior coaches is beyond me, the old adage "you get what you pay for" still escapes RW. The Bills coulda had Martyball...he wanted the Bills job badly. I had so much hope for the Buffalo Bills finally becoming a winner again after RW fired Jauron, and there was talk about Shanahan and Cowher becoming the next Bills head coach. Now, I find that that hope has done a rapid 180, and as the season gets closer all I can do is despair at the thought of what this team will look like in 2010.
  12. Here you guys are... still talking QB's when the Bills will field an inferior O line again this year, and without proper protections and time to throw it won't matter which QB gets the starting job this season. On a 1-10 scale Sam Bradford was a 9 as QB and the only reason he wasn't a solid 10 and a good reason for Buffalo to try and obtain him from the Rams is his shoulder injury history. Plus the fact he was never under the duress like some QB's are, he was protected well and he played well. In games where protections broke down he wasn't as sharp. Locker, Luck, Mallet or any of next years QB's don't compare to Bradford just yet, although they might after this coming season is over. As of right now Bradford would be still drafted #1 ahead of all of next years crop. JMO "IF" the Bills were to draft a a QB it will take around 3 years for him to fully develop, which he wouldn't / couldn't do with the O line the Bills are attempting field this year. Chan Gailey is an "idiot" if he thinks that any rookie running back will improve pass protections and give the QB time to throw. I suppose you all will need to see that once the season starts.
  13. This team has had lots of luck, problem is it has all been BAD LUCK for a decade... UPDATE... per pft http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...is-for-ed-wang/ I h8 having a sprained Wang
  14. Thank you for the clarification on Tebow. Chan got his 'water-bug", the one he was talking about long before the draft even took place, Question, I'm still very perplexed as to why the Bills have not made a move to fortify the LT position yet, it looked like they attempted to on several occasions and didn't get it done. Any news on this situation would be much appreciated.
  15. In regards to the bolded, Can you provide a link to the so called move up trade with the Jets, or is this pure BS speculation? I already stated they wanted to trade back into the first for Brian Bulaga and when he went to the Packers so they stop trying to trade up, JMO. NOW, even if they did want Tebow and he was gone in the first, then why did they have serious discussions with the Rams before day 2 started? This link is directly from the official Buffalo Bills website: http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/04/23/r...ng-to-trade-up/ Even Chris Brown stated he thought the Bills were interested in a LT ""Personally, I think the Bills are targeting a left tackle prospect.""
  16. Well it doesn't help that he was fired at his last job... as an offensive coordinator. He would have probably jumped at the chance just to be OC again if Cowher had taken the Bills HC job. You are 100% right tho, if he wins... then everything is golden.
  17. You are entitled to your opinion, no matter how off base it is. The facts are ...the Bills were trying to trade up in the first round and stopped trying after Bulaga was taken by GB. They had serious talks with the Rams before day 2 started about trading up to get the first selection in the second round. Now, who was there that the Bills would even be interested in besides Rodger Saffold who the Rams chose with that first selection? Then recently the Bills made news again about an interest in trading for Jared Gaither the LT of the Ravens. The Bills have shown me that they KNOW they are still lacking at LT and tried to do something about it... and perhaps still will. The only QB they showed any interest in so far was Donavon McNabb, NOT Jason Campbell, NOT Tim Tewbow, NOT Colt McCoy, NOT Jimmy Clausen. The Bills basically had their pick of ANY QB in this years draft and free agency and decided to stay with the QB's they have in camp. My take is that if none of the QB's in camp can make a decent impression on Gailey he will then look elsewhere, like at Tyler Thigpin. Tim Tebow was rated a 2-3 year project at best to become a starter at QB, unless it was for a part time wildcat / pistol option player. I think Ralph Wilson made that statement about Denver panicking because it was true.
  18. I agree, I'm not drinking the Nix-Gailey kool-aid yet, they need to show me they know what they are doing. So far I'm not impressed at all, and here is why. The entire NFL world watched in the 2009 off season as the Bills made headlines by trading away their ONLY all pro player, LT Jason Peters. Then the 2009 draft and the Bills select a DE with the first pick when the NFL world knew he was going to be a 2-3 year project, everyone except Jauron &Co. The Bills still needed to replace Jason Peters at LT and didn't, not in the draft, not in free agency. The result was a disaster of a season and complete failure at both tackle positions to protect the several different QB's, and give any of them time to throw. So here we are again this off season, new head coach, new GM, and same old story. Someone, somewhere at OBD has the greatest faith in D.Bell at LT to ignore the position again early in this years draft. Then they band-aid the right tackle position with another scrub from the Raiders,as if Langston Walker wasn't bad enough. With the very same scouting crew still intact Buffalo for the last 8 years, the guys who selected Aaron Maybin #1 in 2009 and failed to find decent O line talent in the draft for nearly a decade. I have no faith in Bell, Meredith, Wang and Calloway ever becoming decent starters, these same scouts have a 8 year history of drafting mid to late round O line draft picks that fail. CBS Sport.com has the Bills selecting Jake Locker with the #1 overall pick in next years draft, and it looks promising to me. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft?tag=fas...nfl;NFL%20Draft Should the Bills actually get the first overall pick next year because they are the worst team in the NFL next season...I can only wonder if the next Wal-Mart head coach RW hires will be smart enough to actually try and find top talent for the tackle positions. The Rams selected Sam Bradford first overall this year and the very next pick was OT Roger Saffold.
  19. I don't buy it, if that is the case then why didn't the Bills go after Jason Campbell or a different named QB like Clausen or McCoy once Tebow was gone if they wanted a QB? There were rumors that the Bills were interested in Tebow and more rumors that they were not interested in any QB in this years draft with the exception of Sam Bradford. The rumors were even more hot and heavy over Jimmy Clausen, and then Colt McCoy. I tend to believe the Bills were not interested in any QB in this years draft besides Bradford, who was unattainable because of the price the Rams would ask. About the only QB we sorta know for certain the Bills made an offer for was Donovan McNabb and McNabb turned down Buffalo. I tend to think that the Bills have their eyes planted on what the Dolphins are doing with 4 QB's on the roster in Chad Henne, Pat White, Chad Pennington and Tyler Thigpin. The odd man out in that situation might just be Pennington if he doesn't fully recover from his shoulder surgery. Henne is the starter and the Dolphins will want to keep Pennington if healthy and should Henne falter they have seasoned vet to bail them out, Pennington did take them to the playoffs. Pat White is the developmental project to run the "wildcat". That leaves Tyler Thigpin as perhaps the guy left out in the cold in Miami...and Buffalo may be his next stop.
  20. Granted Marv Levy was a much better head coach then GM, but then that was his first stint at GM. If given more time I think he would have done really well as the guy just had the ability to adapt, learn and adjust. Marv did a ton of things properly and started things off the right way. He hired a head coach who reminded him of himself and gave an experienced NFL coach another shot at being a head coach. HUGE mistake, just about everything Marv did while as GM ...ole Dickyhead tore it apart. Marv looked around the league for a decent OC and wanted a high powered offense so he hired Steve Fairchild to implement the greatest show on turf to Buffalo. Fairchild quit and Jaruon replaced him with a QB coach who had never called plays or installed game plans, fired him two weeks before the season starts and replaced him with another QB coach who had never called plays or installed game plans, what a freaking moron! There are certain things you need to take into consideration concerning his time in Buffalo. He was limited by the scouting department who obviously suggested Langston Walker and Derrick Dockery would be worth what the Bills paid them, they weren't. Then the 15+ year veteran O line coach Jim McNally retires and dickhead replaces him with...you guessed it, a rookie assistant line coach. The result of that was Trent Edwards suffering a severe concussion in Arizona and the line played poorly and protections suffered as did the Bills QBs. The strength and conditioning coach was one of the worst under Jauron and the Bills had an endless amount of injuries year after year. So if you state Marv Levy scrood everything by hiring Dick Jauron, then yea that one move ruined Buffalo for 4 years. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions...
  21. Hey, when you realize you made a mistake on a player who looks to be a complete under achiever and different then the guy who played for you a few years ago, cut your losses right away and move on. Better that then have the guy stick around and ruin the chemistry in the locker room, JMO
  22. Adam Schefter reported the Bills were trying to move back into the first round, and at around pick 15 is when we first heard that rumor. I believe he was speculating it was for Tim Tebow. Most Bills fans were thinking something different, at least I was. The fact that the Bills were rumored to be interested in trading for Raven LT Jared Gaither awhile back sorta confirms what perhaps the Bills fans were thinking during the draft. That in fact they were trying to get back into the first to draft Brian Baluga for LT and not Tebow. Baluga went at 23 and the Bronco's traded up to grab Tebow who went at 25 because they thought the Bills were after him. Later after the first day of the draft it was reported that Ralph Wilson had said the Bronco's "panicked" in moving up to take Tebow. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...enver-panicked/ More rumor/ or proof http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/04/23/r...ng-to-trade-up/ Rodger Saffold? more stuff- http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/4/23/...to-go-with-a-qb Then again Schefter is a guy who I believe knows whats going down long before anyone else in the media does, so only the people in the Bills war room really know. http://ballhype.com/story/twitter-adam-sch...ebow-to-denver/
  23. The Bills in 1999 were a playoff team and only the cheat by Tenn and the so called "music city miricle" kept them from another SB. At the end of the 99 season the Bill released Thurman Thomas-Bruce Smith-Andre Reed. John Butler was fired in December 1999 and In 2000 the team went to brain-fart syndrome and drafted Eric Flowers with the #1 pick, the entire draft that year amazingly bad. Wade Phillips still had a pretty decent team Pat Williams-Ted Washington- Phil Hansen- the reason they went 8-8 is beacuse Phillips was determined to have Rob Johnson play over Doug Flutie. Interesting read about how Butler was fired by Ralph Wilson and why. Anyway, whoever was responsible for that 2000 draft should have been hung up by his nads http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_ga...s_insider_1220/
  24. ya know your right, that year I watched the 1999 Rams in pre-season before Kurt Warner and the team looked horrid once Trent Green went down. I had them winning 2 games all year and then Warner steps in and...wow! Usually it takes a few years to build up a team so most know when it will happen. By pulling a Joe Flacco, do you mean like the AFC Wildcard game last year where he went 4 of 10 for 34 yards and no TD's and Ray Rice and a strong defense won the game for the Ravens?
  25. Good ole Bill, still stinging from that Spiller pick... I like the pick personally and think that "if" the guy is indeed a special talent then he was worth that pick. I remain skeptical that this RB is going to make the offense any better then Fred Jackson did last year and still think the Bills scrood themselves by not going for a LT before round five.
