  1. Trent Edwards benched...the villagers headed to OBD with torches and pitchforks wanting to burn down the facility because the Bills lost two games... Chan Gailey panicking because he is so desperate for a win OR does he just want to give his team another option and chance to win at NE? Who did the Bills lose to? The Dolphins have a really good 3-4 defense run by Mike Nolan ...they just went into Minnesota and beat down legend Brett Farve, intercepting him 3 times at home, more then he threw all last season !!! plus they caused 5 turnovers.- The Packers could be super bowl bound this year as they have an excellent team in almost every aspect. At the end of the season I wouldn't be surprised if both the Dolphins and Packers are in the playoffs as both have top 3-4 defenses and the Pack has a top 10 offense. In that Miami game with 8 min to go and down 13-3 Gailey calls for a spread 5 WR offense and the Dolphins stopped blitzing and dropped into coverage, the result was an 80 yard drive and a TD to Parrish closing the gap 13-10. Now the Bills overcame penalties and a sack on that scoring drive, the offense was in pure attack mode with 4-5 WR sets and the Dolphins only rushing 3-4 to keep from getting beaten by a big play. So what do we know, that 2 WR sets and conventional running plays didn't work very well against the Dolphins. Blocking and protections were very suspect. The "wildcat" worked for the Bills against the Dolphins and they got a first down from it, next play was a hold so they go to a 2 back 2 WR set and try and have Edwards bail out the O line penalty, which we already knew doesn't work.We saw that the spread formation with 4-5 WR sets worked brilliantly late in the game. We saw that at Green Bay the Bills came out in the conventional 2 back 2 WR set and tried to run the ball, then went to a 4 WR set on 3rd and 9, Green Bay zone blitzes and is Edwards sacked back to the bills 5 by Matthews after 3 seconds, it was basically a jailbreak but Clay got the sack, pocket collapsed We saw that the Bills were able to run the ball with conventional 2 back sets on GB in the 2nd QTR and Jackson scores on a run. Later the Bills try and run on a 2nd down and 20.... The Bills tried to run the ball against the Packers with mostly conventional 2RB 2 WR sets and when then didn't convert or couldn't convert by running they kept putting Edwards in long yardage situation to try and make up the yards the running game set them back from. The stats look horrid for Edwards but honestly this looked like early Dick Jauron play calling (Schonert-AVP) 11of 18 for 106 yards 2 INT's, both INT's were deflections http://www.cbssports...20100919_BUF@GB Did Edwards have a horrible game...yep no question. but was he constantly put in tough situations by the play caller...yep no question. Trent Edwards was not the only one benched, Roscoe Parrish is now the 2nd receiver in 2 WR sets replacing Steve Johnson So with only one decent receiver being doubled and tripled and no viable TE option and in long yardage situations and a heavy blitz always coming, best to bench the QB http://blogs.buffalo...%28BillBoard%29 Bottom line. If Chan Gailey keeps putting his QB's in very difficult situations, 2nd and long- 3rd an long with suspect blocking and protections I highly doubt any QB will have great success. Edwards had about 2-3 seconds in both games to unload the ball before he would be whacked. And even when he did get rid of the ball he was getting whacked anyway. Did the Bills want to showcase Lynch to be able to trade him and therefore they ran the ball much more against the Packers then they did against the Dolphins, did Chan not realize this Packer defense was the #1 defense against the run last season with the same players returning this year? Did Chan lose his balls and try and go ultra conservative because his pistol offense didn't work so well? We all saw that a 4-5 WR spread formation worked brilliantly against the Dolphins and kept them from constantly blitzing, then why not run that against Green Bay at some point on 1st and 2nd down? Then burn them with a big play when they try and blitz, pretty sure Roscoe and Spiller are faster then Clay Matthews We saw the "wildcat" get a first down against the Dolphins, why not use that more often and make the game exciting? Run the "Wildcat" more then once or twice a game...for the love of god, get Spiller the ball and use him like the Saints use Reggie Bush My take is Chan created his own problems with the offense in going to conservative by trying to run Lynch and then putting the QB in long yardage situations and thereby allowing him to be susceptible to a heavy blitz, it is also my take he benched Edwards to soon. I think he over reacted, OTOH he certainly made the masses happy. But hey, at least now he doesn't need to worry about getting a career ending concussion playing behind a really bad O line and with conservative game plans. Its fitz's turn to run for his life
  2. Oh I dunno... perhaps it was that last drive with 8 min left in the Miami game and Gailey calls for a 5 WR spread offense, the Dolphin defenders stop blitzing and drop into coverage. Trent takes the team 80 yards down field with a TD to Parish. The fact that all preseason the Chicago Bears offensive line looked horrid allowing so many sacks every game, many were saying Cutler is gonna get killed this year. The Cowboys blitzed him constantly the first few series in the last game, the Bear O line couldn't block Ware and Spencer whatsoever, they were forced to hold them because they simply COULDN'T BLOCK THEM. Cutler looked exactly like Trent Edwards running for his life and getting hit after every pass play! The Mike Martz made adjustments- shorten the drops, get him under center, get rid of the football quickly and have him step up in the pocket, then he ran a spread offense and the Cowboys dropped into coverage BOOM TD to the TE with a quick slant pass ...the result was the Cowboys DE's were no longer getting to Cutler and he started to carve that defense up. To me Gailey is biting off more then he can chew in trying to run the entire offense, watch protections-call plays- make adjustments
  3. Seems pretty offensive to me ... they bench Edwards and yet keep Green starting Fitz may actually do well as opposing teams don't have any film on him in this new offense, lets hope he does well
  4. Why is this coach getting a pass already, I don't get it? Look at the Redskins, HC comes in and doesn't like the QB and BOOM gone! New QB with McNabb.- QB FIXED! O line needs upgrading so they draft a LT with first pick and trade with Saints for a pro bowl RT-O line FIXED They need an experienced OC & DC so he hires them and doesn't try and do everything himself- coaching fixed The Redskins were in almost the exact same boat as the Buffalo Bills in every aspect, changing from a 4-3 to a 3-4 all new coaches, new schemes. I have much more faith in the Redskins righting the ship long before the Bills do simply because they have made the proper moves THIS YEAR! Both Nix and Gailey made me very skeptical about the future of this team with their off season moves(or lack of), the GM stating he is going to get some sleep as free agency begins and then brings in Cornell Green for 3 mil....not many seem to be bothered by this. I <3 the Bills and want to see them win asap and not thru some ""long brutal process"", its been 10 years of rebuilding as the entire decade has been wasted by hiring bums that shouldn't have been hired as head coaches. Bad GM no GM old GM Maybe its getting old and I'm getting on others nerves if so... I apologize. I just want to win now and can't wrap my head around why this should take three years or this should be a 'throw away season" Apparently Gailey wants to win now also or he wouldn't have benched Edwards
  5. The homers are forced to hold out on the thought "it can't be the coaches fault", it has to be the QB!!! No worries, after enough losses they will come around and see what you and I see...a guy that was fired as OC because his offense went 2-14. Although nobody here wants to hold him accountable for that .... A guy that was supposed to be an offensive guru and correct all the mistakes with Trent Edwards that Jauron and his staff of morons made. A guy who drafted a RB instead of a tackle because he stated that a great RB will make the line block better!! Down 13-3 with 8 min to go in that Miami game the Bills get the ball on their own 20 yard line...the Bills go to a FIVE WR spread formation set and that causes the Dolphins to suddenly drop into coverage instead of the constant blitzing. Edwards then takes the team 80 yards for a TD drive. That drive showed me that Edwards can get the job done if he has time to throw and his receivers are open. So what do the Bills do next game, start the game with a 5 WR set and open up the offense? NO! they go conservative and try and run the ball against last seasons #1 defense against the run...Yea blame the QB when he has trouble making constant 3rd and longs, better bench him! This guy is starting to make Jauron look good .....
  6. dog your simply not going to convince anyone around here that Edwards doesn't suck, most everyone that posts here is convinced that he is the major problem with the team. They don't get the fact that Gailey was supposed to coach up the QB's, coach up the O line, create new schemes and call great plays. The RB he drafted at #9 pick that was supposed to make the O line better, remember that line? The sad fact is he didn't choose to upgrade the O line LT-RT, he didn't choose to upgrade the WR position after releasing Reed and TO, he didn't choose to upgrade the tight end position, so the QB pays the price.
  7. As great as Bruce Smith was as a Buffalo Bill you have to understand he had a great setup in Buffalo with Tally behind him to make the tackle on the ball carrier and mostly his job was rush the passer. He made DC's game plan around him, and he was always double teamed and triple teamed Jim Kelly was a QB with a LB mentality, tough as nails and would butt heads till someone was bleeding. I can recall one NFL coach stating he wished he had a QB like Kelly because his team had gone through 6 QB's in ten years. He called his own plays and was a field general out there. granted he had a HoF running back in Thurman Thomas and a should be HoF WR in Andre Reed. I'd take the QB for the simple reason that he touches the ball on every offensive play and is more difficult to find a great one. When you think about the confluence in time of all those great players the Bills had on the team in the late 80's and early 90's, it makes you think that may never happen again... until you look at the current Indy Colts and realize the guy who was able to do that in Buffalo has done it again
  8. The Bills really really needed a safety in that draft, granted he was a reach at being the 56th rated player on the board, it can't be that bad a pick because he is still starting with that loaded defensive backfield If ya look at that draft they could have drafted Ngata OR Jay Cutler and still gotten Roman Harper in the second if they don't move up to draft McCargo Someone in that scouting dept needs to be fired.... TM... ring any bells? 3rd round- Ashton Youboty 4th round- Ko Simpson... Owen Daniels-Brandon Marshall- Elvis Dumervil all 4th rd picks
  9. Good point, it seems to elude most of the posters here.... and Chan Gailey ""Gailey, lacking for answers, decided to make the obvious move. Fine. It's something. But the guy had six months to coach 'em up and get the offense fixed. Instead, it seems like he's making things up as he goes along"" All I gotta say is...what happened? Where is the innovation, where is the QB improvement, where is the RB that will make the line block better....HIS WORDS!
  10. Jauron and his band of clowns ruined both JP and Edwards... Both Edwards and JP have the David Carr-syndrome in that after so many hits and sacks they now hear phantom footsteps and get nervous feet. Perhaps if given a solid O line and running game they might start showing promise, otoh they both might revert after getting hit a few times. Drew Bledsoe was that way, he was a fierce QB until he was hit a few times in a game, hit him hard and early and the game is over. Time to move on...
  11. Bingo! Did he not take the time to actually watch Green play for the Raiders, or did he listen to some scout. I'm thinking both he and Gailey took a scouts advice and signed the guy without watching how he played last season. c'mon, they couldn't have watched him play...could they? Green wouldn't be a backup on my team, not for 3 million a year...not for league minimum
  12. You know what, the buck stops with the head coach, as bad as the QB plays the HC is the one that is accountable. After what has transpired over the last 6 weeks I've come to a few conclusions about the new Bills HC. 1) He didn't watch film of anyone from last season, he couldn't have or some of the players on the roster wouldn't be on the roster and some wouldn't be starting! This in itself has tremendous impact on the team this year. I can understand the thought of starting everyone with a clean slate, but you just gotta know what you have to work with from the start. Old-lazy-just to much to do? 2) He has NFC how to change a game plan mid game! He has no real clue how to call a game from the sideline as he can't see what the entire defense is doing, unless he is taking cues from his OC up in the booth, which is kinda lame. The Dolphins came out run blitzing and spying Spiller to shut the rookie down, much to their surprise they found the protections so bad that they could easily get to the QB and disrupt throws.Edwards had at most 3 seconds max to get rid of the ball, and even then he was getting whacked. Gailey kept trying to throw out of the shotgun all game, very reminiscent of Turk Schonert. He didn't even try to establish a run game, just stubbornly kept trying to have Edwards throw the Ball, which was stupid of him as Edwards constantly had someone in his face and only had around 2-3 seconds to get rid of the ball. The Bills ran the "wildcat" for a first down, next play was a hold. Down 13-3 with 8:34 left in the game Gailey goes to a spread offense with FIVE WR's and waddya know...the Dolphins drop into coverage and Edwards has time to throw !!! He then takes them from the Bills 20 yd line for an TD 80 yard drive The momentum clearly shifted to Buffalo and the defense stops them and forces a punt with around 2 min to go. You guys know the rest, they took a safety! the O line making stupid mistakes, costly penalties, not blocking well. bad protections. What does this tell us? That if Gailey had run that 5 WR spread set from the start it might have been an entirely different game. Edwards can do well if given time to throw and has open receivers.. 3) Bad Game planning- He went conservative against the Packers trying to run the ball and keep it away from Aaron Rogers, not a bad idea at first glance, but then he didn't even realize that the Packers were the #1 defense against the run last season and are returning with LB Matthews on fire. Maybe I'm wrong here but if the Bills start the game in a 5 WR spread set and force the LB's in coverage it means they can't crowd the line and blitz all the time or they get burned for a big play...hrmmm Spiller in the slot.... wide open field in front of him. Jeez, i wonder if that Matthews guy can keep up with Spiller? Anyway Sully is right, this move smacks of desperation.... after only two games, is he panicking and listening to the fans?
  13. Not for nothing but the Patriots will need to look at last seasons game tapes to get a look at Fitz, and even then they might not have enough to scout him in this new offense. My guess is he will undoubtedly look better then Edwards did against the Packers and Dolphins as those two teams look to have really good defenses. The Packers may have the defensive MVP this year in Matthews.. The Pats didn't look all that great against the Jets, so after watching film of that Jets win the Bills may find some areas to exploit. Not saying the Bills will win, just saying might not look as bad.
  14. This I don't believe at all, In the 90's Bill Polian proved that the fans will fill every seat if you put a winner on the field. The problem with the current Buffalo Bills is that RW resorts to old habits and tries to save money in every aspect, forgetting what Polian taught him. That with a perpetual playoff team in Buffalo Wilson could charge top $$ for luxury boxes and the stadium would sell out, shoot they might even get a waiting list . OTOH, it makes perfect sense to keep the team constantly mediocre and on the verge of being good, that way the owner doesn't need to hire expensive coaches-GM-players keeping seats filled and yet costs down. I think it would be much more challenging to build the winner as he would have to pay the coaches and players up front to kick start the franchise, and who knows he might get a Ryan Leaf or two along the way. Most people always take the easier path in almost every instance, Wilson is no exception
  15. You got it all wrong, Fitz is not the savior....its Brian Brohm the college god of football Can't wait till he gets his shot
  16. He is the reason they let Pat White go Instead of looking for QB's the bills should be looking to shore up the O line, WR. no QB will have much success with in this offense with the current players
  17. Yea, and wait till Fitz takes the field and says... WTH is TO? WTH is blocking at RT? WTH am I doing out here? Let Brohm play, at least finally find out if this guy has a chance to become an NFL QB...we will never know if he keeps riding the bench
  18. old news, another thread already started
  19. This makes me ecstatic, glad to hear it... Now I wonder how long it will take before we hear Fitz sucks.. Linky--- http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/20/chan-gailey-gives-up-on-trent-edwards/
  20. This makes me ecstatic, glad to hear it... Now I wonder how long it will take before we hear Fitz sucks..
  21. BUT BUT BUT....ITS ALL TRENT EDWARDS FAULT....HE SUCKS ...AND HE IS A MORAN! Several things are clear to me, one is that Chan Gailey thought he could come in and teach fundamentals and improve the team, what he didn't realize is that last years team was lacking in schemes and game planning Guess what, the scheme-game plan-play calling haven't improved at all. This man stated in his post game PC that he called for several deep passes and can't understand why they didn't get thrown...that in itself shows me who the real "MORAN" is now
  22. The only problem with your scenario is that in order to bring Jackson-Haynesworth-Mankins to Buffalo you would then need to pay them, not gonna happen as long as RW lives. He doesn't want to spend his precious money. The biggest area of concern right now on this Bills team is not WR, not DE, not OG, not C its at RT & LT So the one guy you forgot to mention that might actually be a good idea and help the team immensely is... trading for Marcus McNeil LT from the San Diego Chargers Then the Bills could move Bell to RT where he might actually do some good. RW might actually pay this guy, the problem arises is that Buddy Nix won't trade away his precious draft picks to obtain him, thus the franchise is stymied by two old Ebenezer's
  23. Only one thing bothers me, the Bills are paying Cornell Green 3 million a year for that horrid play at RT... I don't see how a QB change will help anything on this team, unless they were to trade for Mike Vick. Fitz won't be an upgrade, no more TO and the O line is actually worse then last season. But hey! I'm all for benching Edwards so you guys will see what I already know P S I'm now convinced Gailey is a moron, he stated in his post game PC that he called for some deep passing plays and doesn't understand why they didn't get thrown
  24. Kinda funny that the guy hired because he was an offensive "guru" has managed to make the offense worse then it was under Jauron, who we know is a moron! So what does that tell us about Chan Gailey? All I know is it will get worse before it gets better, Bills play at the hated Patriots Sunday and another double digit blowout
  25. I disagree. the worst player on this Bills team by far is Cornell Green, who is making 3 million and way more then Edwards. he was brought in to be an upgrade and clearly he is anything but.
