I know Buddy Nix recently coined this phrase after he was hired and In his talking with the media about rebuilding the Bills he stated something like " I don't want to hear about the labor pains, just show me the baby" I'm thinking he stole that line from Ralph Wilson who has been saying that to his Buffalo Bills treasurer & CFO Jeffery Littmann for decades, just show me the money...err baby! You simply can't ignore the fact that this owner has tried to do everything he can to save money in the entire history of the team. While he did pay for big marque players like OJ, Kelly, Smith...but then players like Jason Peters and Pat Williams were undrafted and therefore didn't seem worth of such a high pay increase so they were moved along. The team paid big bucks to Langston walker and Derrick Dockery for the O line and kept them when they played 1/2 way decently, the O line coach changed and their performance fell and they were released. Every move the team makes seems to be about saving money and keeping costs down, unless the player is a fan favorite or owner favorite. You need to take into consideration that although the Bills have been mediocre the last decade winning wise, they have made the owner a bunch of money and sold countless amounts of jerseys and merchandise. Every year the games are sold out and the stadium filled with glossy eyed fans thinking this could be the season they go back to the SB. So tell me, what real incentive does this man have to pay for a big name coach? Never mind the fact that a proven winning head coach could easily turn this team into a winner like Chuck Knox did, but because it would also cause all the players to be suddenly recognized as good and they all would want more money, thus it is far easier and cheaper to keep the team on the verge of being good as long as the fans keep coming. P.T. Barnum used to say, ""there's a sucker born every minute"" Wanna make a difference and create some real change, stop buying merchandise, stop buying tickets. Stop supporting mediocre!

While I don't completely buy into your conspiracy theory, perhaps he wants to leave this earth with Bills fans still loving him for keeping the team in Buffalo. Could an O-line shift be in the works?
thewildrabbit replied to macaroni's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Benching Green and paying him 3 mil to back up RT is actually a worse idea then keeping Trent Edwards, besides if they bench him or cut him it would be admitting that he should have never been signed in the first place. So perhaps they move Green to RG, Wood to Center, leave Bell at LT,Wang at LG, Levitre to RT, so Bell-Wang-Wood-Green-Levitre makes the most sense to me, but who knows what will work with this rag tag group. None of them seem capable when it really counts. -
The reason nobody wanted the job is because of the pecking order at OBD, most GM's would want more power and say over the draft, free agency and players in general The GM and head coach are handcuffed to the owner Ralph Wilson- Treasurer Jeff Littmann- Russ Brandon CEO- Jim Overdorf S VP of football admin....pretty tough to get anything done when you have no power over anything Still, I'm not certain as to who is responsible and who made the call to sign Cornell Green or give Chris Kelsay an extension, but they need to go

I think McCargo goes long before Evans, but then again this is the wacky Buffalo Bills....worst team in the NFL:bag: -
I have no faith in the current scouts after Cornell Green...or the GM for the Kelsay deal Not to mention that everyone still breathing was openly stating in the off season the Bills needed to upgrade the O line-QB-WR-OLB, and yet they draft a RB. While I don't disapprove of the Spiller pick, I just don't get why none of the other areas didn't get addressed early in the draft or fee agency

Relax, it had to be done

Welcome back, kinda knew you couldn't stay away It would have been better if they made this deal in the off season pre-draft when Seattle wanted him then, same compensation as I understand it and that 4th could have been used this year. Anyway, I just don't see this team improving the running offense with the current O line. Why they didn't address the O line early in the draft makes me wonder if this staff has a clue how to build a team. -
Buddy Nix himself stated this team was not that far off... Don't show me the labor pains...show me the baby!! I'm still waiting to see that freaking baby...how many weeks do the fans need to endure these labor pains http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/Buddy-Nix-Named-General-Manager/b01c064d-a534-4efe-bdfc-a52e86ea272a One guys opinion on Gailey

That move for Whitner really was mind boggling considering that he was the 53rd rated player in the draft that year, I have no idea why the Bills had him so much higher on the Bills board then other teams. But then look at the McCargo pick, to move up to get that guy was another bizarre move Lets face it, the Bills have been pretty inept at drafting as long as they have been bad, this year is no exception. Bad GM's make bad choices, I have no idea why everyone wants to give this guy another 3 years to get better, at 70 years old if he doesn't have by now he certainly won't have it in another 3 years.

Dunno about you but I'd sure as heck take Aaron Hernandez with that 4th, look who the Bills have at TE... Anyone who doesn't think this team needs immediate help and could have used that pick this year, simply isn't aware of just how bad this current team really is. -

where do you get this stuff... you state Bill Polian didn't build that O line, I prove he did and you change the subject... A HOF O line will certainly give a rookie QB a better chance to develop then a poor O line, the Bills have been proving that point since Bill Polian left Buffalo -

The chicken or the egg... If you build a solid O- line that can run the ball and protect the QB decently you have a far superior chance to develop the QB properly then letting him run for his life and get hammered every time he throws...tell me this doesn't make sense! A perfect example is Ben Roethlisberger, when in his first years as a Steeler the team didn't require him to win games for them, they had a strong O line that could run the ball with Jerome Bettis, plus WR's Hines Ward, Plaxico Burress, Antwaamn Randle El If you doubt this take a look at the players on that 15-1 team in 94---2 first rounders- 1 second rounders, a FA and one 5rd draft pick on that O line Don't forget, that was the year that the Bills just needed to beat the Steelers in the last game of the season to get a WC playoff spot, the Steelers rested their starters and still beat the Bills with back ups like Willie Parker playing. -

where exactly did I state that Polian drafted LT Tarik Glenn, all I stated was that he was already a Colt before Manning got there. The RT was drafted in 97 also 2006 SB champs- Tarik Glenn LT 1997 DP- Dylan Gandy 2005 DP LG-Jeff Saturday C- FA Jake Scott RG 2004 DP- Ryan Diem RT 2001 DP so 4 of 5 on that SB team where brought in by Bill Polian, I'd say that's a yea Besides, Guard Jim Ritcher was drafted by Chuck Knox in 1980 and was with the Bills all through their SB years, yet I still contend that O line that Jim Kelly had protecting him was a result of Polian putting the pieces together. -

while I don't object to the trade, I find it highly questionable because the Bills could have made this trade pre-draft with Seattle who wanted him at that time and gotten the same pick this year. Considering all the holes on this team a real RT would have been nice -

Kinda funny how it took an injury to Bledsoe to give Brady a chance to show he could play... The thing about Bledsoe that even Donahoe didn't realize right away is that if he played against teams with a bad pass rush he would carve them to pieces once he got into a rhythm. He did this with the Bills also, Bledsoe had some really good games as a Bill. .BUT! if he got knocked around at some point in the game and hit and hurried, he would start to hear phantom footsteps, it would destroy his confidence and the game would go out the window. Opposing team saw this and started going all out to blitz the guy and take him out of his game, and it worked. Give Bill Belichick credit as he saw this much eariler then anyone else and got rid of him, it did help that Tom Brady was his back up and showed he could out perform Bledsoe in games! -

Run that counterpoint to C.Bsicuit97, because I agree that even the greatest QB is going to fail behind a poor O line. Like I stated with the Colts, they drafted a LT with their #1 pick the year before they drafted Payton Manning. To the OP question, have they reached a tipping point? no, not yet! I'm hoping that at some point after the mid point this season, when the Bills are 1-7 or 0-8 that Nix comes to the realization that he made a huge mistake by hiring Chan Gailey, he grows a pair and fires that loser. Marty S is available and would jump at the job. If Nix remains a vage all season, then I would hope that Grampy Wilson gets fed up with a 1-15 season, realizes that the fans are going to abandon ship and fires both Nix and Gailey Cowher wants back into a HC job -

So would David Carr- Joey Harrington-Trent Edwards et al- and to any other poor SoB QB that gets drafted to a crap team that never builds a decent O line to protect him. Don't bring up Payton Manning, because the year before they drafted him #1 overall, they drafted a LT #1 in Tarik Glenn in 97, the year BEFORE...Bill Polian built a solid O line for his QB at Indy just like he did for Kelly in Buffalo. Jeff Saturday has been the Colts starting center for the last 10 years, 4 time pro bowler ...not even drafted. Payton Manning is one of the least sacked-touched-harried QB's in the NFL every year because he has had a solid O line, he is also one of the hardest working QB's who demands his receivers stay after practice to keep working on passing drills so his passes are out very quickly. The entire offense is highly scripted and precise and one of the very best offensive units in the NFL. -
I'm just happy these morons in the FO didn't trade him to the Jets-Patriots-Dolphins, and yet somehow I get the feeling that Lynch will end up in NE and haunt the Bills for a few years To all you brainiacs who think Jackson is the better player.... both players have two distinct styles of running, Lynch the fright train and Jackson is a Jaguar, Spiller OTOH is a Ferrari. Lynch needs a bigger hole and would better suited to line up in the I to hit the hole at full speed, Jackson needs a crease and like Lynch can break tackles. About the only RB utilized properly in the last few years was Jackson, but as old as he is you just don't want to feature him full time. "IF" the Bills had a better O line and OC those three backs could really wear down a defense and win some games. Lynch and Jackson proved that under Steve Fairchild when each rushed for 100+ yards against the Dolphins. The Bills lost a good skill player for only a 4th round pick, they could have made this move back on draft day that would have gotten them a pick this year.

good post, welcome aboard The posters here are in denial, this tandem of Nix / Gailey drafted a full draft and none of those players save Spiller have made any impact this year. Spillers impact so far has been marginal compared to other RB's selected later in the draft. The Bills have a hand full of desperate needs to improve the team and this staff almost completely ignored those positions. I'm not buying into the best player available crap, what if the best player available for the next ten years is a DB at the first and second pick! You draft the best player available for your greatest area of need. Buddy Nix went out in free agency and brought in Cornell Green, the worst RT in the NFL and then paid him 3 mill a year, so what does that tell you about Nix! How many year do we need to wait to call this two morons? I'm already convinced these two losers are going to do nothing but make this franchise worse then it already is. -
Okay so do we need to trade Lee Evans now?
thewildrabbit replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, trade the guy away and completely gut the team for picks... Just don't be mad next year when this team falls on its face again because those picks don't pan out. -

Why the Bills should tank this season
thewildrabbit replied to smuvtalker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What is scary about the current Buffalo Bills situation is that it looks like Chan Gailey and Buddy Nix are actually trying their best to turn this team into a winner, yet failing in almost every aspect. What the OP just doesn't comprehend is that the loser mentality that pervades in very bad teams is so very very difficult to get rid of, players that get drafted or sign in free agency will come in and go through the motions of playing and all they will really want is that paycheck. Instilling confidence into players and telling them that if they put forth their best efforts that they will succeed, and getting the players to firmly believe that is about the hardest part of a head coaches job. The head coaches main job is to motivate his players to do their very best each week, and manage the games each week. The X's and O's should be left to the coordinators and assistant coaches. What happens if the Bills get the #1 overall pick and draft a QB...and he turns out to be JaMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf. Or perhaps he pulls a Eli Manning / John Elway and refuses to sign with the worst team in the NFL. Perhaps he pulls a Jim Kelly / Tom Cousineou and signs with another league... I look around the league and watch what the winning teams do, in the playoffs almost every year and they don't need to bottom out to get better. Patriots- Ravens-Steelers -
Everyone got what they wanted in trading Lynch...
