  1. I'm no fan of Fitz or Chan Gailey, but the one thing this HC is noted for is developing QB's, and he did a good job with Fitz last year. I'd say he already improved the passing offense. To bad its the only thing he improved on so far, as the running game, defense and special teams all went downhill. How on gods green earth do you know what Fitz can or can't do.... you can't see into the future ...or even into anyones ability to do anything. Your just an armchair QB with a distorted view on things. First you say a QB either has it or he doesn't, then you say they can develop.... I know you want to, but you can't have it both ways! Nobody, not even top NFL scouts can see 100% into a college players abilities or how they will fully develop, or if they will eventually develop into an elite SB winning QB. If they could, then there wouldn't be guys like Brady-Warner coming outta nowhere to step into greatness. If the top NFL scouts can't tell, then I know for 100% certainty you can't tell if Fitz can further develop or not!. Fitz is a very very smart guy, not because he want to college at Harvard, but because he basically aced the wonderlic test with a 48 out of 50, and did that in record time, 9 min. He also showed me that what he learned while at Cincy playing against the Steelers-Browns-Ravens that he retained the knowledge of their defense schemes to almost beat the SB runner up, and he would have if not for a dropped pass by his receiver in the end zone, in OT! This shows me that if the Bills want to beat the Patriots or Jets any time soon they had better keep Fitz as the starter and upgrade his supporting cast.
  2. I'd rather see the bills take a DT-DE-LB before a CB at #3, then go Ponder for QB
  3. I'm not over reacting or slamming anything, calm and cool here. Although it does get annoying dealing with some people...... Try and absorb the idea that Fitz has played for CRAPO TEAMS.... Brady started playing on an already SB team. Kurt Warner went to a team that had HoF RB Marshall Faulk and was loaded with soon to be super star players.... HUGE DIFFERENCE! Now think about how well Brady or Warner would have performed given last years Buffalo Bills team to play for, no running game, no defense, no special teams, no TE, and only one decent receiver all season. It is literally insane to think pocket passers could have out performed Fitz who had to run for his life in several games. How do you KNOW fitz can't make a huge improvement in his play if his supporting cast improves, you can't ! I for one would like to see the bills spend that #3 on defense, rather then a QB that is going to take 3 years to get to the level of knowledge that Fitz already has, even then the guy may never develop and turn into another JP-Edwards.. Matt hasn't taken his team to the SB yet, hasn't even won a playoff game yet. I was making an entirely different point.... which clearly you didn't get
  4. Jeez dude, all I've been saying is I want to see if Gailey can improve Fitz before this team wastes another high draft pick on a QB Anyways, in regards to your first paragraph, Look at the year Tom Brady was knocked out for the season in the home opener in 2008, the guy who replaced him was a NOBODY! That replacement QB didn't even start in his ENTIRE four years while in college, his last start at QB for a team was his high school FB team! This nobody went on to lead that Patriot team to an 11-5 record, which wasn't good enough to make the playoffs that year. Still, 11-5 from a guy who's last start was in high school. That tells me he had a great supporting cast of players, and coaches, and team around him!
  5. Your entire argument is pure and utter horse crap. Tom Brady was a late 6th round pick that nobody knew would develop into the super star QB he is today, he wasn't a franchise QB from day one! So to make a statement like "either you have it or you don't" simply doesn't fly. Kurt Warner can come out of nowhere to be great, who on this earth would have thought that a guy working in the supermarket would go to the NFL, and then take a team to the SB, an undrafted arena league guy....he was signed in 1998 by the Rams, he threw 4 of 11 passes for 39 yds and a QB rating of 47.2, and was 3rd string behind the great Tony Banks. Then the next year in 1999 the Rams cut Banks, and signed Trent Green to start, Green tore his ACL in pre season and was lost for the season, Warner stepped in and went on to throw for over 4000+ yards and 41 TD passes with a 65.1 comp rate. NOW, WTF knew Warner "had it" before he started that season....NOBODY! Just like you have no clue as to whether Fitz can improve on his play or not
  6. I see the point you are trying to make and your stating that Drew Brees could have developed into an elite SB winning QB no matter what team he played for.... I say Horse hockey! If he had been drafted by the Detroit Lions instead of the Chargers he would have gotten beaten down, and more then likely would now be a back up QB or out of the NFL by now. If Sean Payton had picked up Fitz as a free agent and Drew Brees was injured during that SB run,htf do you KNOW how well he would have played? Look back to the Steelers-Chiefs-Ravens games the Bills played this year, all 3 are playoff teams and Baltimore and Pittsburgh battled in the AFC Championship game to go to the SB, last time I looked Fitz didn't drop the TD pass to beat the Steelers. Fitz played well enough to win more then 4 games this year, it was the rest of the team that sucked so bad. Look at Drew Brees height, the guy is a smuff by todays NFL QB standards, and he would have a difficult time even getting drafted now, teams are complaining Jake Locker is only 6'3'' . Coming out of Perdue Drew Brees was graded much higher then Fitz, as he was a 2nd round pick, and had better skills entering the NFL then Fitz who was a 7th round pick to the St Louis Rams, as an after thought. Drew Brees had better skills then, and has better skills now. But like I stated eariler he has a totally different styple of play then Fitz, with Fitz being more of a gunslinger type. Mike Riley was the HC of the Chargers when they drafted Brees, that team went 5-11 in 2001, and Doug Flutie was the starting QB for that SD team. Riley was fired after that season and Marty Schottheimer was hired to replace him, do you recall Martys nickname? He is nicknamed Marty ball because his teams run the ball more then they throw it, he demands the QB manage the game, and not make mistakes, mostly had the ball off to the RB. Do you know that Marty benched Brees in his second season, later Brees would state that the benching was the best thing that happened to him as it made him much more discliplined in his throws, he was far more carefull after that. Did you also know that one of the first coaches hired by Marty was Cam Cameron, the current OC of the Baltimore Ravens who is now tutoring Joe Flacco. Brees has had basically only 2 HC's and 2 OC's to learn from in his 10 year career, 2 of the best NFL offensive minds in Cameron and Payton. Pretty darn good resume that Brees has, now look at Fitz. The guy went to Harvard, how many NFL QB's has that school produced? Nevertheless, in his first game he came in at half time for the Rams, they were down 24-3 against Houston, Fitz threw for 310 YDS and 3 TDs to lead the Rams to a 33-27 comeback win. That Ram team went 6-10 that year. 2 years with the Rams 05 -(6-10) 06 (8-8) Bengals 07 (7-9) 08 (4-11) Bills 09 (6-10) 10 (4-12) the guy has been on some pretty bad teams with 5 different head coaches, different OC's, players, schemes. Not a real good recipe for success for any QB, even one drafted in the first round, much less a 7th rounder. I have never debated that Drew Brees doesn't have better pro QB skills then Fitz, he does, and always will have. I highly doubt Fitz will ever be as accurate as Brees, but then not many QB's are.... However, comparing Drew Brees and his SB winning team to the Buffalo Bills and Fitz is moronic. Like I stated earlier its like comparing apples to poop, it just doesn't work. You stating that Fitz will never be an elite QB and lead a team to the SB.... wtf are you to declare that as fact? Look at Rich Gannon a journey man QB who got the Raiders to the SB but lost, -Mark Rypian, 6th round pick-Jeff Hostetler, scrub career back up that beat the 1990 high powered Buffalo Bills, -Joe Theisman, 4th rd scrub that needed to go to Canada to play-Kurt Warner was a walk on who was working in a supermarket. Brad Johnson was a 9th round draft scrub and won a SB. Lets not forget that guys like Tom Brady weren't franchise QB's before they won the SB, they were declared "franchise" QB's only after. I"m not saying Fitz is the absolute answer at QB, all I'm saying is give the guy a year to show if he can be the answer. Let him have this off season-pre season for Gailey to further develop him and see if the guy can be a winner, just get him better support... a decent running game would be a start. Besides, there is no top QB in this years draft, they all need developmental work.
  7. So what ! I only bring it up because you started to compare the entire teams and their respective QB's.... vs each other...Bills vs Saints is a moronic comparison . Fitz vs Brees is a moronic comparison. My comparison was only on the QB's scrambling abilities, which Drew Brees is NOT noted for, neither is Brady or Manning! However, Brees a superbly accurate pocket passer and has a completely different style of play then Fitz, the latter is more of a gunslinger type. One QB has been a career back up, while the other has been a career starter on above average and or playoff teams, with better coaches, better players, better schemes, better play calling. I'd say that Drew Brees is better then Fitz in just about every aspect....except in one area, that is running for his life, Fitz did an exemplary job at that feat this season , even Mike Vick didn't do as well as Fitz did this year. Is it any wonder as to why Brees is better then Fitz... given the teams they have both played on. Also note that Fitz didn't make it thru the season without suffering an injury, he was injured last season and knocked out for a game, same as this year. All I'd like to see is Fitz get the chance to show what he can do as a full time starter, of course everything depends on how the Bills build his surrounding cast. Have a TiVo? Go back and watch that Jets game in which Brian Brohm started, that play from Brohm is what you will see when an inexperienced rookie QB starts for the Bills this year, should they draft one and start him. Expecting a rookie QB to come out in this years draft and play like Sam Bradford or Rodger Stafford is foolish, there is nobody with that high a grade in this years draft.
  8. Thank you, finally someone else who gets the team aspect , and well stated BTW to look at last years team and think a different QB could have won more games is absurd in my view Quite frankly, thinking Brees-Manning or Brady could have run for their lives better then fitz did this past year is simply being delusional. Perhaps the only two QB's I think could have MAYBE done better with this team is Aaron Rodgers and Ben Rothlisberger with their scrambling abilities, even then its debatable Lets not forget that the bills learned the hard way that Spiller can't block.... In my view, this years Buffalo Bills was about equal to the 08 winless Detroit Lions save for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who should have received the NFL equivalent of the congressional medal of honor for his service to the Buffalo Bills this year. He clearly earned every penny they paid him, he even earned what they paid some of the other players. You say you do, but you don't.... You are still comparing a backup QB who played 35 games on horridly bad teams to elite SB winning QB''s and their teams, if you can't see the difference in that, then it is pointless to continue this discussion
  9. First of all how can you compare Drew Brees, a QB who has tons of starting experience on some really good teams to a career back up who finally got a chance to play most of the season on a horrible team, and who has always played primely on bad teams. What you clearly don't understand is the difference between a great team and a bad team, you think its all about the QB and that the entire difference between a great/bad team is the play of the QB. Do you get what the meaning of the word TEAM means? I think you guys just don't get how bad that last seasons Buffalo Bills team really was, or still is. Let me tell you something you don't see, that if Tom Brady- Payton Manning- Drew Brees would have started that game the Bills played against the Jets this season that they would have been running for their lives just like Fitz did. The bigger question is... would any of them have survived that game? Fitz was the leading rusher in that game as there was no ground game from the RBs whatsoever, and he has an ability to scramble better then most QB's in the league. His release is on par with those guys, his decision making this year in most games was on par, it was his surrounding cast that was so bad, and is the primary reason for the Buffalo Bills 4-12 season, no question. In making these comparisons to teams and QB's that recently won a SB shows me that you guys really don't understand just how important the QB's supporting cast is, O line-TE-receiver corps-RB's .
  10. I'm not missing anyones point, he clearly compared the Buffalo Bills team to last years SB winning Saints, whats folly is you guys stating that you know Fitz won't improve if the team around him improves
  11. Are you guys seriously brain damaged ot what? you are comparing elite SB winning QB's on teams that recently won a SB.... to a guy who was a career back up QB ...that finally played most of a season ...on one of the worst 4-12 teams ever. I have NEVER stated that fitz will win the SB or even take any team to a SB or even playoffs for that matter. I'm just saying that the guy deserves a chance to enter this next season as the starter, deserves the chance to show what he can do with a full off season and pre season behind him, with Chan Gailey focusing his attention to helping Fitz become a better QB. Fitz is a brash gunslinger type in the mold of Brett Farve and Jay Cutler, he will always try and force the ball where he shouldn't, but then he will make more big plays then most would. All I'm saying is I'd rather see fitz be given a chance at full time starter, then watch some rookie go thru 3 years of painfully development and learning, which usually means another 3 years of losing as there is no Sam Bradford-Rodger Stafford in this years draft
  12. Hey man, you were the one comparing the super bowl champs to a 4-12 team, and those 4 wins only came about because of a career back up QB playing better then he ever previously played. No offense, but that comparison alone completely kills any credibility about anything you say. Then you go on to talk about drops... cherry picking ....and his stats, wtf do his stats have to do with anything? This years 4-12 team has to be one of the worst I've ever watched, and the only bright spot on the team is a back up QB, and you guys are trying to compare him to elite SB winning QB's, unreal ! Just stop the comparisons and think for a min, this horridly bad team with no defense almost beat the Ravens-Chiefs -Steelers, all in OT, all playoff teams.... basically because one guy played above what he had done the past. The only dropped pass I'll ever mention is the one by Stevie Johnson that would have beaten a SB caliber team in OT, the Steelers.
  13. Payton Manning played behind an inferior line this season compared to other years, and it showed, he was hit more often, and had to hurry his throws more often. Manning was basically forced to be the entire Colts offense, with a poor running game and weak defense and many injuries to his receiving corps. This years Colts team didn't make it very far in the Playoffs because of all the injuries and the poor play of their O line. You can bet all the talk about the Colts forums is about rebuilding that O line in this years draft to protect their best player. The current Buffalo Bills O line is far inferior to anything the Colts fielded this season, with walk ons off the street at RT, and virtually no TE. At least the Colts had a decent backup TE in Jacob Tamme who could step in and replace Dallas Clark somewhat. Again, you guys are comparing a freaking part time back up QB who suddenly emerged to an above average QB for the Bills to elite super bowl winning QB's in Manning and Brees....Its freaking ridiculous to even make those comparisons. How in the heck can you guy be so sure that Fitz won't further develop his completion % and accuracy.... you can't! All I'd like to see if Fitz be given the chance to start this year after giving him an off season to prepare to be the starter, let him be the focal point of Chan Gailey's off season program. Hopefully the bills can build a proper running game to support him
  14. Are you seriously comparing last years super bowl champs to this years slump bowl chumps? ....C'mon, get a grip... you have a seriously distorted view of player abilities Look at all the injuries to the Packers this year, it didn't stop them from winning it all, 12 players on IR. The buffalo Bills wish they had a LT as good as the Saints have, a TE as good as Shockey, a receiver corps as good as Colston, Meachem et all, a defense as good as the Saints. Not to mention as play caller- HC such as Sean Peyton. Drew Brees has much more starting experience and played on teams where he could learn and develop, Cam Cameron was his OC while in SD. Fitz was a backup QB and an after thought until given his chance to shine this year, and on one of the worst team even fielded by the Buffalo Bills, If not for Fitz I highly doubt they win a game all year.
  15. Name one current NFL QB who could be an elite QB on that PoS team the Bills fielded last season... Bell at LT...scrub walk ons at RT.... Roscoe Parrish out injured... no running game...The supposed super star RB taken with the #9 pick in the draft that can't block, can't run.... Perhaps you guys all forget the first two games with Trent Edwards as QB...or howabout the Jets game in which Brian Brohm started...fitz the leading rusher against the Jets because they have no running game Fitz did an amazing job considering his surrounding supporting cast was horrifically teribad, the only guy who played almost as well as Fitz all year was Stevie WSS Johnson who had the dropsies at the absolute worst time against the Steelers. Jeez, I for one would like to see what Fitz can do if given all the reps in the off season-pre season and is given all of Chan Gaileys focus and attention. Hopefully the Bills can get the running game going, find a decent solution at TE and RT .
  16. I was never a Ryan Fitzpatrick fan until the Baltimore, Pittsburgh, KC OT games, with all three teams in the playoffs last season, and then the Ravens and Steelers duking it out in the AFC championship game for the chance to go to the SB! The ONE singular bright spot for the entire Buffalo Bills in the 2010 season had to be the emergence of Fitz and his ability to set protections, read the defense and get the ball out so quickly it negates most opponents pass rush. Considering the supporting cast around him, bad O line with walk ons playing RT, virtually no running game, no tight ends, Roscoe out for the year. The Bills were unable to run the ball effectively and they put the QB under enormous pressure all year, the guy did a remarkable job playing QB on a bad team. Having stated that, I just don't get how so many posters here can't wait to draft some of the project QB's in the upcoming draft this year. There is no clear cut QB that is as good as Sam Bradford in this years draft, if there was then Carolina would select him. All there is in this years draft are QB's who need tons of developmental work in running an NFL offense and reading pro defenses, QB's that will take 2-3 years to properly develop. Look back to that Jets game in which Fitz was injured and Brian Brohm started, Brohm played horribly in that game, it sure shut up the fans clamoring to see him start and play. That game also showed the glaring weakness of the O line to properly protect a young QB that is still learning, most fans seem to want to throw another young player behind that horrid O line ....only to watch him get beaten up and broken down for the next 3 years. This current Buffalo Bills team as so many positions of needs above a developmental QB, that selecting one in the first round at #3 is simply a lame move IMHO. The Bills already have a decent QB in Fitz who could further develop under Chan Gailey and perhaps improve his accuracy and completion percentage. Upgrading his surrounding cast would certainly improve the team and the QB's performance from my view. Read this: http://msn.foxsports...reakdown-021411 Team Needs QB (developmental), OLT, ORT, OLB, SS The Bills have been one of the worst teams in the NFL for years against the run and the very worst last season, they had an excuse under Jauron as the Tampa 2 is noted for its weakness against the run. The move to the 3-4 was supposed to improve the defense, instead it made it worse. I can only hope that letting Marcus Stroud go was a precursor to drafting a DT-DE-LB with that #3 overall. Then follow that up with some help for the O line and LB corps.
  17. Like I stated in the above post, there is no Sam Bradford in this years draft. Drafting a QB at #3 when the team has needs in so many other areas, it would be a huge waste of a pick. As it stands, the Bills have a better then average QB in Fitz, who has shown he can do a good job considewring the lack of talent surrounding him. Did you happen to watch Brian Brohm in the Jets game last year when Fitz was out with an injury, that is what a rookie QB would look like every game....How can you want to draft another new QB.... and force him to try and survive on this team? If the Bills draft a QB and don't drastically upgrade the O line and TE position, then he will most certinly turn into another JP Losman -Trent Edwards. JP had an adaquate HC-QB coach in Mike Mularkey, what he didn't have was an adaquate O line, and time to learn, and develop under the same coach. He was handed over to an offensive moron in Jauron who ruined both JP and Edwards. Why draft a QB now and turn him into another David Carr or Joey Harrington, et al?
  18. I get the single point... My first point. No offense here... but what you don't get is that last year there was ONE "franchise" QB in last years draft, that was Sam Bradford. There is NO Sam Bradford in this years draft, the ONLY guy with a grade even close to Bradford was Andrew Luck, and he decided to stay in school. QB's for some reason always carry some mystical hype with them, teams submerge themselves into all the hype, and then seduce themselves into believing the guy can be great....when in reality the guy isn't all that great and needs a ton of support to allow him just to become a viable NFL QB. I'm glad you brought up Joe Flacco, the guy has some great features, ideal height, powerfully top arm, can make all the throws. But you know what, the Bills had a guy like that, and couldn't protect him, his name was Drew Bledsoe. Yea thats right, Joe Flacco is a very immobile pocket passer who can make every throw, but needs a great O line to protect him. The Ravens posses a great O line, running game, and now a receiver corps, they couldn't get by Pittsburgh in the playoffs because the Steelers have the better QB in Big Ben. The difference between Flacco and Rothlisberger is that big ben has much more mobility and can scramble to by time, he tends to hold the ball longer to make plays like Aaron Rodgers, If Flacco had big Ben's feet things would be very different IMO. Big Ben wasn't a 'franchise" QB when the Steelers selected him, he grew into that role the same way Joe Flacco is trying to grow into that role. What allows those two to develop, and grow into top QB's is their surrounding cast, great O line-great running game-really good coaching. When the Steelers drafted Big Ben they were a power running team under Bill Cowher with a bruising RB in Jerome Bettis, along with a great defense. The Steelers ran more then they threw and that allowed Big ben to manage the game, and learn, while NOT making mistakes. My second point, given the history of draft failures this franchise has endured over the last decade, what makes you think these men can even identify a future franchise QB? With this current staff they are more likely to draft Ryan Leaf then Payton Manning....again I'll point out, there is NO Manning in this years draft. Even "IF" they do manage to identify the top QB in the draft, and then manage to draft him, what makes you think he will get capable support to allow him to develop? The Bills do not posses a great running attack to help support that new QB, no TE like Todd Heap or Heath Miller and no depth at TE like the Steelers and Ravens have, no power running attack. The Buffalo Bills O line is still one of the very worst in the league, Fitz was able to make that line look much better then it was. Even then when the Bills played a top team like the Jets, Fitz was running for his life most of the game. He was the top rusher if memory serves. The Buffalo Bills currently have a guy at QB who did a remarkable job last season considering his surrounding supporting cast, they need to improve that supporting cast!
  19. . Look, I would dearly love to jump on the Bills bandwagon and ride it to the playoffs. I just don't that happening with this owner, this FO, this coaching staff. Ralph Wilson is the current Buffalo Bills president, and has his hands in on everything that transpires at OBD. Someone posted that the owner was on the phone an hour everyday to the HC during the regular season, talk about micro managing...The Buffalo Bills need a real president in the mold of Ozzie Newsome of the Ravens, Bill Polian of the Colts, Mark Murphy of the Green Bay Packers. This owner is responsable for the mess this team has been for the last decade, and until he hires someone that know how to run this franchise, it will continue to be a mess. Buddy Nix failed in his first year, in the draft, and in free agents, and in trades, it is almost comical how inept he was last year. I would laugh, but as a Bills fan.... it makes me want to cry. Chan Gailey was able to improve the passing game, one area of the team. The defense, special teams and running game all went downhill under Gailey. Both Nix and Gailey were stating that the Bills "were not that far off" in the beginning of the season. Then after 5 games that tune changed to " its going to take some time'. Going from 4-12 from 6-10 is not an improvement, and yet the team unloaded the "bad" QB & RB. The team drafted a supposed super star RB last year with the 9th overall pick , but he clearly wasn't NFL ready...who's fault was that? The one main theme coming from OBD is the lack of talent, and yet the team retained the same people responsible for that lack of talent that has been plaguing the franchise for a decade. Sorry I can't share in the delusional optimism that pervades most Buffalo Bills fans, I see things the way they are.
  20. Actually it didn't, it took going to prison to change his work habits...it took Andy Reid to help him become a better pocket QB. No NFL team wants their 50 million dollar QB running if they can make throws like Aaron Rodgers / Tom Brady, running is a last resort after all the check downs are covered and the back in the flat is covered. Does Cam Newton like dogs....?
  21. I hope the Panthers do take Newton, so that the bills will select an LB or DT to help the run defense. Newton grades out as a top 15 pick , most teams will grade him as a middle first or late first rounder, and a project like Tim Tebow. Granted Newton has better mechanics and not as many technique flaws as Tebow. But he is a one look and run QB, if the first look isn't open he will run, that doesn't work in the NFL ! The top graded QB from last year and this year was Sam Bradford, he even graded out better then Andrew Luck . There is no #1 overall QB in this years draft from what I've seen, I can only hope the Bills don't get caught up in all the Newton hype and use that #3 on defense.l
  22. Let me ask a few questions...Do you really honestly trust this band of of clowns to schlep to the podium in this upcoming draft and choose a viable prospect at any position? Considering they chose Aaron Maybin and CJ Spiller the last 2 drafts, then looking at the history of failed QB's this franchise has tried to acquire since Jim Kelly. What is the constant that has remained the same with the Buffalo Bills since the Jim Kelly days and Bill Polian / John Butler / AJ Smith leaving....total ineptitude at drafting What is the weakest area of the team? The team is desperate for players who can stop the run, kinda like a priority right? Then you can expect them to ignore DT and LB until the later rounds! Ralph Wilson stated early last season that the bills would draft a QB, and I'm pretty certain that Cam Newton would sell a whole bunch of season tickets for ole ralphie Do you really trust Chan Gailey to coach up Cam Newton? The thing is... I don't trust this offensive guru to properly develop the guy. He already failed at making Trent Edwards better, and spent the entire offseason - preseason trying.... then he outright cuts him....then we saw Brohm fail in his one start. Do you think the O line is fine? The Last I heard from Nix and Gailey about the O line is that they will keep Wood at center, and the line should be fine....maybe fine against bad teams. This team still needs a quality LT-RT and then guard if Wood moves to center. You put a rook QB behind that PoS O line and he will get killed. Fitz made that line look way better then it really is, and even with Fitz as QB they still don't run the ball very well, Fred Jackson can't be expected to continue to make the first 3 tacklers miss on every play. Can Fred Jackson carry a full NFL RB load 200-300+ carries? Even though the team took Spiller in last years draft in the first round, the kid isn't an every down back, plus he can't block. Fred Jackson is great, but he can't be expected to be the full time starter and carry the ball 300 times a season as he is older and will wear down quicker if in that role, besides the guy is a brilliant 3rd down back in pass receiving, blocking, and running. Remind me again why the bills chose Spiller....well nvm. The bills still need a 1st & 2nd down bruising RB to fill the void left by Marshawn Lynch Maybe its me, but the more moves this team makes it seems the further away they are.... kinda like one step forward and two steps back. Anyway, the Bills should be in the forefront to draft Andrew Luck with the 1st overall next year
  23. The old fox... The same old fox who brought in Cornell Green at RT and paid him 3mill, guys off the street played better. The same old fox who could have traded Marshawn Lynch at last years draft to numerous teams for a 3rd the Bills could have used that pick in last year for their ( before the season, "not that far away") (after 5 games, "this is going to take some time") "rebuilding", the same old fox who missed the calls from the Saints who would have given up a 3rd days before he was traded to Seattle for a 4th. Ironically that Run by Lynch won the game for Seattle against the Saints in the playoffs, wonder if the Saints FO thinks Nix is an old fox? http://gridironfans....hawn-lynch.html The same old fox who went into last years draft stating that the O line was a "priority", then took OL at 5th and 7th. The 7th was cut in preseason and the 5th never made it to the starting lineup even though the team was desperate for stability at RT. The same old fox who let his HC coach up Trent Edwards all off season-preseason and gave fitz back up reps... to cut the guy after 2 games and get nothing for him. At his first presser the man himself stated he wasn't the smartest guy in the room, I for one believe him. I think you got the old and the F right, the rest is debatable.
  24. To elaborate a little on what Mike Mayock stated.... He said the best pro day workout in shorts he ever witnessed was that of ....Jamarcus Russell!! So many young players enter the draft with all the tools to become a franchise QB, and yet so many fail at the next level because you really can't see much of anything watching a player throw the ball in his shorts! What is the most telling is when you put on the game tapes, and watch what they do under pressure. Mayock stated he will need to watch them at the combine to further evaluate all the QB's. Its the intangibles that will make the difference. Like, is he the first one in the locker room, and last to leave, is he a workaholic, a gym rat that is willing to spend the extra time to prepare and learn his craft? What kind of football IQ does he have, is he a fast learner and able to take direction, can he read a defense, does he make smart throws? Does he love the game and is willing to do what it takes to become the best, or does he just love the payday and want to take the money and run? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So many teams draft a QB and then fail to coach them up properly and surround them with enough talent to succeed, then they throw them into the fire and expect winning results. The only results they usually achieve that way is a broken QB, both mentality and physically. Buffalo still doesn't have the proper supporting cast to properly develop any young QB, the line still isn't nearly good enough in run or pass blocking. It might look adequate against average teams now because Fitz can read a defense, call the proper protections and get rid of the ball quickly enough. But we all saw what happens when the bills face a good pass rush (Jets) , Fitz ends up running for his life, just like JP Losman did, just like Trent Edwards did, If Fitz gets hit enough this upcoming year and suffers concussions like Edwards did, he will start getting happy feet and start hearing phantom footsteps just like JP and Edwards. We all watched that very same line fail to protect Brian Brohm. Not to mention that very few really good experienced QB's can succeed with no real running game to take the pressure off them. Play action passing still works, even in todays pass happy league. Although a guy like Cam Newton just might develop into a SB winning QB at some point, and he sure would sell some tickets.... I'd rather see the Bills keep fitz as the starter, and build the O line properly. Find a great TE and build deeper receiver corps. Perhaps draft Christian Ponder- Colin Kaepernick-Andy dalton in the 3rd- 4th and develop him
