Brian Brohm Released

I could see the Bills drafting Ponder if he is there in the 3rd, or Dalton if he is not.... then again with so many needs at LB-O Line, maybe not. -
Nix Doesnt believe it trading down
thewildrabbit replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When Nix took over he stated that the Bills were "not that far away", then after 5 games that tune changed to "Its going to take some time" Its what happens when you hire a bunch of assistant NFL coaches and a bunch of assistant college coaches to coach your players and then try and implement new schemes. Both Nix and Gailey are in over their heads, Nix isn't cut out to be a GM and that was made clear with all the buffoon moves he made last year, Gailey is trying to run the entire offense, set up the offense and game plan, call plays, coach up the QB"s, and teach his coaches all at the same time. 6-10 this year seems realistic Who knows what foolish moves they will make in this years draft... -
Post-Combine: Who do YOU want to draft @ #3
thewildrabbit replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I went with Miller also, Mike Mayock and his comparison on Miller to DeMarcus Ware changed my mind. Buffalo needs a pass rusher big time, the also need a run stopper big time. A great DB like Peterson would help also....so any quality defensive player works for me! Just thinking about last seasons draft and how they didn't need a RB and yet took a guy who can't block, who can't find holes, has no patience behind his blockers, who was supposed to make his O line better. The Bills already had a guy who could do all that in Fred Jackson, plus he is a better 3rd down specialist. I can't help but think that this team will select another player that is not needed, that will need a ton of coaching and may or may not get better. -
Patrick Peterson runs a 4.32 Forty at the Combine
thewildrabbit replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or the next Dion Sanders... He won't sell tickets like Newton would, but he will be a starter from day one. In a defensive loaded draft, this guy is the best of the bunch. Low risk, high value player -
We'll Be Drafting Our Franchise QB This Year
thewildrabbit replied to Bangarang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This years QB class might be better then last years in the long run, save for Sam Bradford who is several heads above anyone in this years class. Andew Luck would have been the 1st QB selected this year but he decided to stay in school for his final year. The thing is Luck didn't grade as well as Sam Bradford, so there is no top ten QB in this years draft, which means there is nobody that would be good enough to step in and play openeing day, at least IMHO. All the QB's in this years class need developmental work, some more then others. Some QB's send out more alarm bells then a 10 alarm fire does, some guys I wouldn't even have on my draft board due to their past history. Blaine Gabbert won 18 games in his last 2 years at Missouri,, threw for 3186 yards last season and 16 TD's passing, 5 more rushing. Has a career pass efficiency rating of 132.59, so yea the best QB in this bunch, still I wouldn't start him. Jake Locker has some accuracy problems, but it looks like its easily fixable with better footwork. -
JIm Kelly-Bruce Smith-Cornelius Bennett-Thurman Thomas ever get kicked out of a college for cheating 3 times on exams? they ever transfer to 3 different colleges in 3 years, they ever buy stolen goods and get caught, any of their dads try and get 200k from a college for their son to sign a letter of intent? the NCAA is still looking into this... To put some of the best Buffalo Bills players in the same category as "Cash" Newton is really de-meaning to those men, and Bills fans.... well except for Bennett, he did go to jail for sodomizing a girl. Thurman Thomas on "tweet" (per NFL network) If anyone thinks Newton is better then Fitz, they need to be drug tested
-
Cash Newton had "IT"...but he returned it, the stolen laptop he bought....the other persons exam paper he put his name on, and got kicked out of Florida for cheating on exams 3x times.... 3x schools in 3 years Sure why not at #3, he can follow Willis(nothing to do in Buffalo)McGahee- Marshawn (gun toten) Lynch- Travis( its not my kid) Henry into the Bills hall of shame
-
Funny, you don't recall posting ""The only conspiracy that exists is the one circulating in your own mind."" I do, go back and re-read what you post. It seems like you want to argue for the sake of arguing sometimes.....you want to move on, fine with me...just stop posting garbage that you make up, or back it up with a link One last thing about Cam Newton you are so high on. 3 years and 3 different schools, he was kicked out of Florida for cheating on exams THREE TIMES, including putting his name on another students paper and turned it in, bought a stolen laptop, and recently declared himself an entertainer and an Icon. Oh yea, perfect fit to follow guys like Marshawn Lynch-Willis McGahee-Travis Henry into Buffalo. He is promoting himself big time right now, just strikes me that this guy is all about the $$$$, a real class act huh...feel that in your gut? http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5783051

Both Nix and Gailey have both stated the defense is their major concern, and I for one believe them. I asked you to post a link to their supposed comments being vague and somewhat contradictory and now -vague and non substative, I'm not naive, did Gailey state he wanted a '"water-bug" type RB last year, and did they draft that type of player with the first pick or not? You are the one with all the subterfuge going on in his brain, get a grip

If this is to be believed ...
thewildrabbit replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills fans can only hope and pray the Panthers take Newton, then the Bills will have a better choice on defense. I've been advocating for O line help for the last 3 years, now I'd really like to see them fix the defense...last in the NFL against the run. Now that Schobel has retired, the Bills have no pass rush, and nobody to replace him as Maybin is worthless. -
Gailey says while OT is not a crying need......
thewildrabbit replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The weakest area of this team is the run defense, no question. Worst in the league last season and near worst for the last 4 years says it all. What is that old football adage "run, and stop the run" to win games. With Tom Brady and Randy Moss in NE I can understand why Jauron kept drafting DB's, he must have had constant nightmares about Brady to Moss TD's over, and over in his sleep. Still, he should have drafted to stop the run and make them throw, and drafted for a better pass rush. I think that just might be why the Bills over reached for Aaron Maybin. How he couldn't see the guy as a huge 3 year project, and perhaps a huge bust just shows how little he actually knew about positions besides DB's. Anyway, The Bills are still in dire need of stability at RT- C (if they don't move Wood to C) in my view, and I'm still not sold on Bell at LT, the guy seems to get man handled by the good teams when it really counts the most in the 4th QTR. I'd be happy to see the Bills draft a DE-LB with that #3, or trade it back and take Nate Solder-Tyron Smith-Gabe Carimi in the first. They went into last seasons draft with the O line as a " priority" and came out with a 5th and 7th. The 7th was cut in pre season and the 5th never saw a start even tho the team was desperate for stability at RT. Run defense-pass rush- O line-TE, all work for me -
Lets get this straight, You! are the one who posted that ""What Gailey says publicly means very little? Do you think he is going to tip his hand about his evaluations about the qb prospects? If Gailey thought that Fitz was a mediocre qb do you honestly believe that he is going to publicly state that our current qb sucks? Yea, I do think if Chan Gailey thought the current Bills QB sucks, and that the team needed a QB, then I think he would come right out and say so. The Bills are drafting at #3 overall, with only Carolina and Denver in front of them who need defense, and both have new defensive minded head coaches, I don't think they need to be secretive about who they like and don't like in terms of a QB. Just like last season when all he talked about was a "water-bug" type RB,....and then who did the Bills draft..a water-bug type guy in Spiller! . exactly what statements have been " vague and somewhat contradictory"? care to post a link. I don't read things into what the HC says like you guys do, I happen to think the man speaks his mind
-
RW also stated that they wouldn't reach for a QB just to take one, that they will draft the best player, whomever that may be. After listening to Gaileys latest comments I'm fairly confidant the Bills will go defense with that #3...you guys can continue dig up conspiracy theories thru all the smoke Chan Gailey is blowing every time he speaks
-
First of all, just a winning season would be a nice start.... this team is so far removed from a playoff team its not funny.... Get a grip on reality, at 4-12 no current QB in the league could take this haphazard bunch of misfits to a SB....exactly how many SB's are ya gonna win with a defense last in the NFL against the run?
-
You bet!!! The thing is, its really to early to tell if any of this current crop of QB's is going to evolve into an elite QB, need to look at them again after the combine, and their pro days. We all will see their measureables, its the unmeasurables that are most important. work habits, study habits, first one in, last one out type of a guy. Recently the scouts have been getting it right, aside from Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russell 4 years ago...so far it looks like most teams that took a QB early have had success the last 3 years, Matt Ryan, Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford, Matt Stafford, Josh Freeman, Joe Flacco, only Tim Tebow isn't starting. After reading what Chan Gailey has had to say yesterday I'm thinking the Bills will pass on a QB in the first round (I hope so, the defense is just sad), I can't help but think that Gailey might be looking at Ponder in the 3rd round. You guys, and the armchair QB analysis.... Chan Gailey stated that he thinks Fitz did a great job last season, and is going to remain the starter, he also says that he has won playoff games with players that have less talent then Fitz, thats good enough for me
-
I agree Russell was an under achieving blimp, Vince Young is not and he is always injured, Young ran a 4.58 which is faster then Newton, plus he is a head case...so was Vick...so is Russell....Newton stole someones laptop, he has a shady past and very well could be another head case. 4.75 isn't fast at all in the NFL, he isn't going to out run anyone, and he ran more then he threw in college... The guy might have been bigger, stronger, faster in college.... but the NFL is soooo much faster...he will get killed in Buffalo behind that horrid Bills line. Take the experienced vet QB out of the equation and put a rookie in his place, kinda what Brian Brohm looked like in that Jets game last year. ...Newton is gonna get killed. I'm all for drafting a franchise QB, if there was a Sam Bradford- Matt Stafford I'd say go for it... Newton has a huge potential to be another bust, I'd rather see the defense get help.
-
I couldn't agree more here, the year the bills took Aaron Maybin I was pushing for a LT-RT-C any O linemen really, but everyone was so enamored with Maybin's speed.....where are all the "OH, you can't teach speed guys now"? Now I'm pushing for a DE-OLB with that #3 to help the worst defense in the NFL, and I'l bet the old coots go for a QB, why not...its not a real area of need because Fitz was the ONLY highlight from last season. I think this has just become a waiting game for Bills fans, the guy in charge has been out of it for the last 10 years, and blames the player talent....which of course he is responsible for...but hey! he is making money!
-
Don't throw the race card here, in actuality its what EVERYONE IS comparing him to, the guy I quoted threw in Russell. They all happen to be black QB's who can scramble, have big arms and who all played brilliantly in college. Vick never won a national championship tho, and was the #1 overall for a reason. He was faster-quicker then most NFL DB's, he was clocked at 4.36 at his rookie mini camp, and said to have run a 4.25-4.33 at the combine. Thats Dion Sanders DB type speed at 4.28 and almost unreal. Just to give you some perspective on the subject ...Newton did the 40yd dash in 4.75, Fitz did it in 4.87....Newton isn't going to run away from anybody in the NFL, just ask Spiller!
-
I notice how you ignore that both Vick and Young have been severe head cases to the teams that drafted them, and I disagree that Newton is more polished then Mike Vick was coming out of college. Lots of college QB's win national Championships and then never amount to anything in the NFL. Vince Young, Reggie Bush, Mario Williams were all in contention for that #1 overall in 2006. Fans in Houston wanted to GM Lynch Charlie Casserlie for passing on Bush and Young to select the DE #1 overall, Bush turned out to be a high priced 3rd down specialist (the Patriots laugh at that), Young a head case. Bush set to make 11 million from the Saints this year, somehow I doubt that happens. Mike Vick-Vince Young- Jamarcus Russell are his comparisons like it or not, and a history of problems, man I hope Carolina takes Newton
-
He has a great upside if you look at him only as an athlete, the problem is he is like Aaron Maybin in that he is a one year wonder, and a one look, and run QB that needs tons of developing in terms of reading defenses, going thru a progression of reads on his receivers, learning a pro offense, ETC. Nobody really has any idea of how the guy will develop until after the combine when the scouts can try and put all the pieces together. As it stands, he has some serious red flags and questions surrounding his past. Everyone is comparing him to Mike Vick and Vince Young...the one needed prison to get his head straight about being the best he can be, and actually studying film. The latter is still a head case, and was just released by his team, after how many millions they paid him? Lets face facts here, no way in hell that the Bills select Newton at #3 and he sits and learns behind Fitz. Even if they tried that, the very first bad game Fitz has...in goes Newton. Anyway, I don't really trust this Bills scouting staff to properly evaluate any player at any position, considering on how many players they whiffed on in the last decade. The head scout does all his work from his home in Fla....he is related to George Costanza.

Ralph's got QB issues
thewildrabbit replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea we agree really, Inept is the proper word. This franchise has been so inept in drafting that when they reach its usually a complete bust. If I'm the new owner I'd fire every scout that has been with the team more then 2 years, then hire Thomas Dimitroff away from the Falcons and make him president, then let him hire who he wants. -

I disagree, if the Bills played a bad team with little or no pass rush, then Bledsoe would tear them a new one, once that guy got into a rhythm he was very very good. His problem was that teams knew that if they hit him early it would cause hit to get happy feet and then start hearing phantom footsteps, and the game would go downhill because he would try and hurry his throws. The last winning season the Bills had was with Bledsoe at QB (9-7) and they lost the last regular season game to Steeler backups, if they win that game they make the playoffs at 10-6. Mike Mularkey wanted Bledsoe to start counting in his head once the ball was snapped, the ball had to be out by 4 seconds. So the team tried to make an old QB change his ways instead of building up his supporting cast, simply moronic! The Bills drafted JP Losman thinking he was much more mobile and could escape the pass rush, yet they they wanted him to be a pocket passer and kept calling deep passing routes.... Have the Bills had a dominate TE in the last 10 years? Have they had a dominate center or any O linemen besides JP who they traded away? How does the O line sound LT Jonas Jennings LG Ross Tucker C Trey Teague RG Chris Vilarrial RT Mike D Williams, with TE Mark Campbell. Oh yea, great O line huh.... Someone at OBD has been giving the coaching staff the "find the soap on the floor in the shower" routine for 10 years.... in terms of player talent. Someone keeps telling the coaches that these players they will draft can get it done, when in fact these players can't get it done, and have failed year after year. Cam Newton, the one look and run guy... he is going to get killed running the ball in the NFL. The last thing you want is your 50 Million dollar QB getting hit every play trying to run the ball. People keep thinking Mike Vick-Vince Young, Vick was great because he was faster then the DB's chasing him, the linemen and LB's had no chance to catch him once he broke into the open. Cam Newton doesn't have that kind of speed and will more then likely always be injured like Vince Young is. Ask any starting NFL RB, toughest job in the NFL, bar none. The only way Newton could work is if he sits and learns for a year or more, which won't happen. -
Ralph's got QB issues
thewildrabbit replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trust me, they gambled...they have been taking risks and reaching for players for 10 years. Arron Maybin was a one year wonder in college who had only one move, and that was run the arc, if the tackle got his hands on him it was over. This all was noted in his draft day bio, and the Bills scouts/staff over looked all his deficiencies because they heard the magic words "you can't teach speed" The Bills FO was envisioning another Bruce Smith and took the gamble. The thing is in todays game the O linemen hold on every play, and its not really called unless its outright flagrant, even then some refs just let it go. To call Maybin a bust would be very accurate considering the Redskins drafted right behind the Bills and they ran to the Podium to select DE/OLB Brian Orakpo, who was voted to the pro bowl his first year. I could say the same horror stories about tons of Bills picks, wtf was the FO doing drafting McCargo in the first round, and they moved up to do it!! The guy was rated as a 3rd rounder or higher on most boards, and this FO gave up picks to move up to get him.... all based on the fact he played on the same line with Mario Williams, their thinking was that Williams was getting all the glory all the credit. The reality was that the opposing teams were doubling and tripling Williams and leaving McCargo free, so the brainiacs at OBD determined McCargo was a great player and moved up to the first round to grab a 3-4th rounder. Donte Whitner was another reach, most draft boards had this guy rated as a late 2nd rounder, the 56 rated player. The Bills must have thought different because they drafted him at 8th overall. 56th to 8th...c'mon The Bills wanted Ben Roithlisberger but the Steelers moved up and beat them to the punch, having lost out on Big Ben Tom Donahoe decided to move up into the first round and grab JP Losman anyway. As usual the FO had their head up their proverbial backsides again this year. They had a dominate pocket passer QB in Drew Bledsoe. Instead of drafting to protect the current QB with decent O linemen they decided to gamble on another QB to develop. I can only surmise that having been burned by drafting Mike Williams, they must have determined they could properly evaluate QB's better then LT's, they were wrong again. There is a reason this team is at the bottom of the league for a decade, bad drafting and taking gambles on players. Ya know what, I don't see things changing this year either. Now they finally have a decent QB and instead of building the supporting cast to help the guy, they want to draft a rookie and start the development process all over again. -

thewildrabbit replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most of these posters are so desperate for a "franchise" elite SB winning QB they are willing to gamble on guys that don't grade out to fit that mold.... the last gamble the Bills took was on Aaron Maybin, the one before that John McCargo, JP Losman ETC ETC ETC. Aren't you guys sick and tired of this team gambling on high draft choices? The one freaking singular bright spot on the team last season was the play of the back up QB, now everyone wants to replace him with a maybe... I agree 100% with that last sentence , the question is what will the old farts do? -
Ralph's got QB issues
thewildrabbit replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looking at the grades of this years QB's coming out of college the only one even close to Sam Bradford-Matt Stafford was Andrew Luck, and he decided to stay in school. The rest are all developmental QB's that will take 3 to 5 years to fully develop, if they ever fully develop at all. Fitz is not an elite QB ATM, and he is not in the mold of some the QB's to win a SB like Payton Manning- Drew Brees. Fitz is closer to Big Ben and Aaron Rodgers in that he has classic "escapability" like those two have, and is really more of a gunslinger type like Brett Favre or Jay Cutler. Fitz will make some big plays, but he will also make bonehead plays trying to force the ball into tight situations. He needs the HC to help keep him in line like Favre had in Andy Reid, and to set up plays like GB used that allowed Favre to succeed. To answer the question, Draft to build the up lines, both offensive and defensive. RT-LT-LB-DE @ # 3 all would upgrade this team more then a developmental QB would.
