Why I believe the Gailey wants to trade down
thewildrabbit replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From what I've read its not Gailey making the picks this year, he has stated its all Buddy Nix. If Buddy Nix was wide awake during last years draft he could have traded back and fixed the O line in one year by selecting both Brian Bulaga and Rodger Saffold. Lets face it, CJ Spiller was a wasted pick at this point for the amount he contributed last season. If Buddy Nix is awake for this years draft HE WILL trade back, the reason is very clear to me.... 20 million dollars guaranteed to a rookie who may or may not be a blue chipper. Unless Nix scouts these first 10 players and KNOWS himself that a blue chip player will be drafted with that #3 overall, then go for it. If the guy has any doubts about any players that will be there after Carolina and Denver make their selections, then trade back and still get that DE AND RT and save the Bills all that guaranteed money. Lets say that Carolina selects Darius, and Denver selects Von Miller, at that point Buffalo is left with DB Peterson... If they choose not to take the CB, then trade with Washinton or another team with a top 15 pick. Meanwhile with 10 DE's first round worthy they could draft a DE with the first pick and they trade back up and take a OT or a TE, Kyle Rudolph. If Von Miller is there at #3 then the Bills will select him, if he is gone then trade back and get that DE, OT or TE -
Horton ESPN AFC East Team Needs
thewildrabbit replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The saddest part of that post is the fact that the Buffalo Bills don't have one area of team strength, it used to be the secondary and running game in 09, but that went downhill last year. The point Horton is trying to make is Bell is a below average player and wouldn't be starting at LT for other teams, which I believe to be true. The question is, would he even be serviceable to start at RT? The Bills have one good QB, no decent back up... one good RB, no decent backup...no RT, a below avg LT...they need a guard now that Wood moved to center . The tight end position basically doesn't exist for the Bills so, a back up QB- LT -RT -G -TE, and that's just the offense... The defense was worst in the NFL against the run and has been for years with Jauron running his Tampa 2, a DE or two, an OLB or two, a DT -
Poll on whether Fitz is the right guy or not
thewildrabbit replied to The Cincinnati Kid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you can state with 100% certainty that the receiver ran the perfect route and it was all Fitz's mistakes... Look at the surrounding cast of players around the guy, look at how the other 2 QB's played with the same surrounding cast (Edwards & Brohm). Last years Bills team almost beat the SB runner up Pittsburgh Steeler's, in Buffalo, in OT! Almost beat playoff teams Chiefs-Ravens on the road in OT, must have been because of that stifling Buffalo defense or the dominating running game the Bills posses...but then perhaps it was the brilliant play of all those pro bowl receivers the Bills have.... Parish gone, Lee Evans hurt and out part of the season, RT walk-ons off the street, no TE, and a nobody receiver comes off the bench to get 1000+ yards receiving, 10 TD's last season...to bad this same kid drops the TD pass in the end zone that would have won the game for Buffalo against the Steeler's in OT. Fitz threw for 3000 yards last season and only played in 13 games, 23 TD's 15 INT's on one of the worst Buffalo Bills teams I've ever seen, no running game, no TE, one good receiver, a bad O line that never did find a decent RT to solidify the line, along with one of the worst defense's in Buffalo Bills history. Everyone should stop scrutinizing the QB play, and start looking at other areas to complain about. When was the last time a Bills QB threw for 3000 yards, on a team as bad as last years was. I'd say the guy played well enough last season to deserve an honest shot to become this years Buffalo Bills starting QB, and not some rookie, I just hope this coaching staff / GM gives this guy a proper supporting cast around him to help him succeed -
Amen, the scouts sucked before Levy/ Jauron, they sucked during, and they sucked after... meaning they still suck and yet still retain their jobs What some fans need to realize is that there was no way Dick Jauron and his Tampax 2 defense would have ever selected Haloti Ngata. That defense requires smaller, quicker penetrating D linemen that can run to the ball. That is the basic reason he took Aaron Maybin, the guy who had only one move and that move was a magical bust off the line to run the arc. His problem was that he only played one year at Penn St, and mostly padded his stats against bad teams. Once an opposing player gets his hands on Maybin his magical burst is over, its the reason why he was selected to be a pass rusher, and yet has ZERO sacks after 2 seasons. This is the type of bad scouting I'm talking about, nobody did the proper homework on this kid, he clearly shouldn't have been drafted by the Bills at #11 in the first round. Last season the Bills selected CJ Spiller in the first round, the kid who was supposed to make the O line block better, remember that line....the problem with Spiller is he couldn't find the hole to save his life, couldn't block anyone, didn't learn his receiving routes, and was a liability every time he took the field. But this also begs the question, is it just the scouting that is failing year after year, or the coaches inability to teach these young men how to do their jobs properly? But then again, after 5 different coaching staffs since 2000... its the scouts. The Bottom line is that this franchise resembles the Detroit Lions during the tenure of president Matt Millen, they hired a guy who had no prior player development skills, and no management skills, no prior front office experience at all... the result was a disaster for the seven seasons he was there.(2001-2008) The fans finally got sick of him as president and started plans to stop attending games, everyone wear bags on their heads at games, and the Millen man march. Is it going to take an 0-16 season for this owner to wake up and hire the right people like Detroit finally did? Because if Fitz gets a serious injury early...then that could happen.I can see 0-16 next year with this staff.

What other near Billion dollar organization hires known inept personnel and then continues to retain them year after year after having further proven how inept they are....It appears to me that if you suck at your job in any NFL capacity the Buffalo Bills will find a spot for you! Want proof, simply look at the history of drafting in the first round this franchise has done over the last ten years or so. Wade Phillips started it all off when he took a bust with DE Erik Flowers in the first round in 2000. Tom Donahoe did draft some decent players during his tenure, but then he also drafted a complete bust in LT Mike D Williams in 2002 which set the team back years at that position, even the current Bills still seem reluctant to draft an offensive tackle early because of that bust. With first round picks like Nate Clements-Mike Williams-Willis McGahee-Lee Evans-JP Losman. After Donhoe was fired, (Marv Levy-Dick Jauron) 2006 Donte Whitner- -John McCargo --2007 Marshawn Lynch-- (Dick Jauron) 2008 Leodis McKelvin -- 2009 Aaron Maybin --Eric Wood --(Chan Gailey) 2010 CJ Spiller How is it that the scouts for this team still have their jobs after ten years of this BS, particularly the VP of college scouting Tom Modrak who has been with the team since 2001, and is semi retied, and yet scouts from his home in Florida... Want further proof? simply look at the latest hires in top positions making millions of dollars a year to do jobs they clearly aren't qualified for, the owner hires a GM who is 71 years old and has never been a GM previously, so no GM experience. That GM hires a man who was fired in his last job as coordinator and promotes him to Head coach. Let me get this straight, the guy was fired at his last job and then gets hired AND promoted by the Buffalo Bills My take is ...the owner has a kind heart and likes to promote from within the org, he like to promote loyalty, he likes to hire people he thinks he can trust. The BIGGGEST problem is that the owner should be a ruthless business owner and hire ONLY top QUALIFIED people, and if they don't perform....then fire them like he did Tom Donahoe. The NFL is filled with very bright young people who actually know how to do their jobs,(instead of a guy who states he is going to get some sleep as free agency opens) there are about 6 top GM's in the league right now I can think of who could change this franchise from a perennial loser into a perennial winner in less then 3 years if given the chance. Hire one of those men and promote them to president, at 90+ years old this owner needs to retire.

Whoever doesn't want a QB at #3 is dillusional
thewildrabbit replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This year the Bills can luck out and avoid their normal suckatude because the top 3 defensive players are all rated as blue chippers Darius DT- Von Miller LB- CB Peterson So the bills are in a unique situation to be able to take a future pro bowler without much effort AND despite the fact they have the worst scouting dept in the league. The Bills are not desperate for a QB as they have a serviceable vet in Fitz, only teams that are truly lacking a decent QB will reach for a QB this year. They will reach because there are no blue chip "franchise" QB's in this years draft, only projects that will take a year or two to develop. Looking at how that vaunted Buffalo Bills O line performed with Trent Edwards and Brian Brohm as the starters, one would have to be delusional to believe that any rookie QB could find success playing behind that line- no running game-no tight end- one receiver = QB -
Poll on whether Fitz is the right guy or not
thewildrabbit replied to The Cincinnati Kid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitz can be the right guy, but I highly doubt he will succeed with a lame coaching staff, lame team surrounding him. The guy stepped on the field and took charge of the offense, he called protections and found the open receiver very quickly. With that quick release and almost instant recognition of the open receiver he negated the pass rush most of the time. It wasn't until he faced really good teams like the Jets, that suddenly that O line looked very below average. If you listen to both Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey they both say the O line is fine as is....while clearly that O line isn't fine against good teams. That O line still needs a RT-LT-G and a decent blocking / receiving TE. The only position that really changed all last year was RT, and yet the team regressed badly in the run The Bills were in a bunch of blowout losses last season, and one could argue that Fitz had good stats from garbage time play. But then don't forget that the Bills almost beat 3 playoff teams in the Ravens-Steelers-Chiefs in OT, with one of the worst Buffalo Bills defenses ever, and no running game. Go back and watch that Jets game from last year, Fitz was the leading rusher because he was running for his life every snap. If the Bills fail to upgrade that O line, I don't see Fitz surviving the season. If he gets hit like Edwards got hit in Arizona, the Bills could be drafting Andrew Luck next year. Anyway, after watching Fitz work some magic last year I have complete faith he could take a team to a championship, but he can't do it without the proper support.... If he never gets that proper support we will never know if he can further develop into a top QB -
Has Clayton said anything relevant about anything in the last two years, his opinion on football matters have taken a back seat since Adam Schefter joined ESPN IMO. Man that dude is fugly. Anyway, I just can't see this franchise drafting a QB at #3 considering how bad the defense has been the last 5 years. But then... this is the same team that traded away their best O linemen, and then replaced him in the draft with a first round OLB/DE who can't play. The new regime takes over and drafts a first round RB who can't play...the more things change, the more they stay the same. There isn't much that this team can do to shock me anymore, doing the smart thing with that 50 million dollar #3 draft pick might be a refreshing change though.
-
What gets me when I look at mock drafts like these is that they don't really look long and hard enough at the particular team needs. The Buffalo Bills need a run stopper-Darius- they need a pass rusher-Von Miller-they need some O linemen- they need a TE who can actually block and be a receiving threat. IMO the biggest area of need is at DT and stopping the run, but wouldn't be upset if the Bills go pass rusher with Miller. If both guys are gone I'd draft Peterson before I'd draft a QB. All three will be pro bowlers- Darius-Miller-Peterson, so any one of those three work for me None of the QB's in this years draft grade good enough to be drafted in the top 10, its only because of a desperate need that any will go before 10. BUT! considering the Bills dumped both Edwards and Brohm and currently have no adequate back up QB I can see them using a #2 on a QB. The only problem with that is are they going to be like the Miami Dolphins who have drafted a QB with that #2 draft pick 3 years in a row, John Beck-Chade Henne-Pat White, and that last guy reminds me of why running QB's suck at the NFL level.

"Buffalo is a black hole of draft information "
thewildrabbit replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
amen The current Bills fans seem to have tons more patience then past years fans, even considering the decade of the 70's in which the Bills didn't win one game against the Dolphins. The Bills are approaching that mark again only this time its the Patriots, the last time the Bills won the division was 1995. They now have finished last in the division 3 years in a row, and yet from reading what most of the posters have to say...they are blissfully optimistic about the future of the team. All anyone need do is look at the history of the franchise down thru all the years to determine that this owner will continue to hire 2nd -3rd rate head coaches-GM's as long as tickets are selling and the stadium is sold out year after year, its almost as if winning is unimportant. Simply consider this new combo, the GM is 71, and is in his first job as a GM. This HC was fired in his last job as the offensive coordinator after the team went 2-14, the new rookie HC didn't want him calling plays for him. Most fans seem so eager to defend this new staff no matter what their past history or how many bad moves they made in their first year. Even more unexplained is the fact that although the 2010 offensive stars were QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Stevie Johnson, AND this is the first time in years that the team has had a 3000 yard passer, while Johnson went from the bench to 1000+ yards receiving with 10 TD's, many many fans seem to be clamoring for a new QB to be drafted with that #3 overall pick. I suppose one could argue that the Bills played very well against 3 playoff teams in the Ravens-Steelers-Chiefs and took them to overtime last season, and they did this with one of the worst Bills defenses ever, a horrid O line, and no running game. Clearly the QB play by Fitzpatrick was the highlight of the season, and yet many fans want him replaced. While most Bills fans appear to give all the credit to the emergence of Fitz to Chan Gailey, I look back, and ask why then did this HC spent most of the off season preparing Trent Edwards to start, and not Fitz. Then he claims credit for Fitz when Perry Fewell had already acknowledged Fitz was the better QB the previous season after he benched Edwards and replaced him with Fitz. So I'm not entirely sold on the ability of this new so called offensive guru HC to build an offense, the team flounded with both Edwards and Brohm at QB, they had no effective running game to take pressure off the QB whatsoever, and badly regressed in blocking schemes. I remain highly skeptical that the team will make the proper choices in this years draft, and for this team to win games next season..... consider if Fitz gets hit like Edwards got hit in Arizona... game over... season over. -
"Buffalo is a black hole of draft information "
thewildrabbit replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all, I think you could give this new staff 10 years and they still wouldn't get it right if they are listening to the same scouts who advised drafting players like Maybin-McCargo-Losman in the first round, and all the bad players this franchise has drafted for 10+ seasons. Then I would argue that looking at the 2010 Buffalo Bills, and the state in which Dick Jauron left the team in, that there were some glaring player needs that needed to be addressed, and this new GM / HC failed to address them. They went into last years draft stating that the O line was a "priority", and yet almost ignored it, they drafted a 5th and 7th, and the 7th was cut in pre season, the 5th was injured and never saw the field despite the fact that the team was desperate for stability at RT all year . Buddy Nix stated after the draft that things didn't fall right for them to take any O linemen early. Clearly someone made a horrible mistake in thinking Cornell Green would be a solid fixture at RT, he wasn't. I can understand the thought process in trying to change from a 4-3 to a 3-4, considering the Tampa 2 scheme is noted for allowing big gains on the ground. But why even try and make that switch if you don't have the proper personnel to run it? The result was that one of the top rated secondaries going down hill, and the run defense stayed as bad as there were when running the T2.. Another area of concern was that the new HC was hiring some inexperienced college coaches that needed to be trained to do their respective jobs at the NFL level. This put an extra burden on the HC because he not only needs to teach his players his schemes, he needs to teach his coaches as well.. Plus the fact that the HC was calling plays, setting up the new offensive scheme, and weekly game plans. That is a crap load of extra work for any HC. The one area that showed how inept this staff was last season was when the HC named the rookie RB the starter, only to find he didn't know how to block for protections. Remember the line by the HC, "this RB will make the O line block better" ... well, that didn't happen. Looking at this team, and the way they went about the rebuilding, it should take 4+ years if not longer.....even then I don't see them competing for a playoff spot with this staff vs Rex Ryan -Bill Belichick Anyway, its going to difficult to screw up this years first round pick if the team drafts for defense- Darius-Miller-Peterson all look to be future pro bowlers. IMO this team still needs 2 tackles, a guard now that Wood moved to center, a TE, a decent OLB. The only thing that makes me think the Bills will screw the pooch again this year is if the "owner" wants a QB to sell tickets. -
Yea DrFish, no hard feelings here either, we are both Bills fans. My father was a Bills fan,as are all my brothers. Heck, my son buys season tickets, and although every year I try and persuade him not to do so, he still does. I can recall my dad cheering for the Bills in the 60's. I just had other things on my mind at that period in time Believe it or not I don't hate RW or CG, tho it is a love-hate relationship being a Bills fan at times, and in all honesty I don't dislike RW or CG as men. The thing I dislike about the owner is that he tends to hire people he thinks he can trust, he likes to promote from within the org, and likes to reward loyalty. Nothing wrong with that really if you still make the right choices. As we look back now over the history of the Buffalo Bills about the only time that paid off for RW was with Bill Polian. The man hired Stew Barber to be his GM, ex player and complete Idiot as a GM- The man hired Kay Stephenson to be his HC, ex Bills QB, and complete Idiot as a HC, although he did draft Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly and change the helmet color from white to red. Mr Ralph Wilson isn't flashy, like he states. He dives to games (or used to) in a Ford Taurus (probably a rental) waving to Bills fans in the parking lot as he drives in on game day. The man can afford to roll up in a limo, or a Rolls Royce if he wanted. Point is, sometimes he should be flashy and hire a flashy HC like he did with Chuck Knox. That HC got the job done with a complete fool as his GM in Stew Barber. Knox was a supreme motivator and took a bunch of ordinary players and made them believe they were a playoff team.OTOH Marv Levy needed Bill Polian as GM, and is regularly crucified in this forum daily by many posters for the job he did as a GM. Levy was a good motivator, and HC. Perhaps Marv's his best trait as a HC was his ability to hire the right assistant coaches, like Ted Marchibroda. Ole Ted was the one responsible for the K -gun / no huddle offense, one of the highest scoring NFL offenses ever. The point to this post is that although I didn't like Dick Jauron as a HC, and still don't even like him as a DC, as I've come to loath the Tampa 2 defense. The man is still very well respected throughout the NFL as one of the hardest working coaches ever, his players loved him and played their hearts out for him every game. Believe me or not, Dick Jauron did a better job in his first year in almost every aspect then Chan Gailey has done so far. But perhaps that was because the much hated GM Marv Levy was behind Jauron making those moves to build up the O line, hiring Steve Fairchild away from St Louis to install that Mike Martz high powered offense. It seems that every single thing Marv Levy did as GM was taken apart by Jauron after Levy retired as GM. As bad as people perceive Levy to be as GM, his replacement was far far worse, RW didn't hire a replacement and let Jauron become the de facto HC-GM. From what I've witnessed so far from Chan Gailey and Buddy Nix, both are as incompetent as GM and HC as Dick Jauron was ...I see them both getting fired and replaced within 2 years. Its OK you guys don't see it yet....you will! I know I have this overblown ego, but bear with me here. Did Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey bring in a new RT last off season by the name of Cornell Green, and pay him 3 mill a year to play RT or not? Did Green play very poorly, then get some mysterious injury so he was benched, and then was quietly released during the year? Did Buddy Nix then resort to pulling in guys off the street to play RT during the coarse of the year? What part of that is erroneous? what part am I lying about, what part isn't the truth? If Chan Gailey and or Buddy Nix aren't responsible for obtaining a bad player and letting him start, then who is, Dick Jauron? Feel free to continue to admonish me for repeating the points I've been trying to get you to acknowledge. Nevermind the fact that the points are an honest, valid look at one single area of ineptitude and incompetency by this new staff. I get that you don't want to answer, I get that you want to defend a coach worse then Dick Jauron. I also get that you won't answer what I've put to you over and over in my question, who exactly is going to "load up" this team. Its OK, I get it. You are entitled to your opinions as well, just remember them 2 years from now.
-
Exactly why do you guys feel determined to defend the mistakes and miscues? This head coach didn't do a darn thing to improve the team last season, he only made it worse. The ONLY bright spot was Fitz who was running for his life 1/2 the time because this new head coach / GM didn't upgrade the O line. In case you missed it the team got worse then it was under Jauron at 4-12... Fewell did better, Jauron. did better Defending a coach who made the team worse then it already was makes no sense to me . This man needs to win more then 4 games to win me over, just as the rest of the team needs to improve besides the passing game. Speaking of Fitz, as well as the guy played last season half the posters here want to draft a QB with that 3rd pick, another idea that makes no sense to me.
-
You STILL didn't answer the question. I still wanna know who you think is going to "load up" this team. I have a tough time believing your over 50 years old considering how you want to keep defending Chan Gailey ....considering some of the bad moves he has already made. Did you defend Dick Jauron also? I can recall a 30+ page post a few years back from someone defending Jauron and all his moves. BTW, I had season tickets from 89 to 94, 4 great seats close to the field, but gave them up when I saw the team going downhill, plus I took my family to all 4 super bowls, and watched my team lose firsthand. I'll support a winning team, just not going to support a loser, and I never will. I've been well aware of Mr Ralph Wilson's frugality when it comes to paying head coaches, and I was really upset when he didn't keep Knox. Although its my right to rail, B word and moan... I don't consider what I'm doing as complaining, all I'm doing is pointing out the cold hard truth about the errors this coaching staff keeps making. ""I am defending Gailey against what I consider to be unfair criticism from people who are looking for a scapegoat to dump the miserable state of affairs on. It has taken many years and many bad moves by persons other than Gailey to put the team where it is."" How is it "unfair criticism" if I point out the truth? Isn't the current head coach responsible for the players brought in under his watch? I was pointing out Cornell Green and CJ Spiller who were both brought in last year. Every time I witness the Bills make a stupid move I'll come to this forum and post about it, just like I do when they make a great move.
-
I almost hope Chan Gailey- Buddy Nix- Ralph Wilson take Cam Newton with that 3rd pick...it may come back to bite them. The reason Evans didn't get double coverage later in the year was because of the emergence of Stevie Johnson more then anything else IMO. Should the Bills want to dump Lee Evans, then that AJ Green selection might make sense. The Bills are desperate for defensive help in the front seven for stopping the run and rushing the passer more then any other need, a RT wouldn't hurt either.
-
First of all I'm not playing both sides, the O line was entirely his fault, and not Perry Fewell's or Dick Jauron's or any other past head coaches fault like you infer. Once the guy takes over as HC he is responsible for every player that takes the field, and if that player doesn't know how to do his job, then how is it the responsibility of past head coaches? You say he had Fitz well prepared to take over and that's why Fitz did so well, on the contrary Fitz played well because he was named the starter over Edwards the previous year by Perry Fewell. Fitz was the better QB to begin with and your man wasted an off season preparing a QB he cut two weeks into the season, talk about a moronic move. What you don't get is that if the stadium isn't filled by guys like you, and there is a threat that the owner won't make a profit, then at that point he will finally break down and go out and hire a proper HC. Just like he did back in the late 70's when he hired Chuck Knox, why don't you "Google" Chuck Knox, and see that he was able to turn around the Bills in a very short time... good coaches do that... they usually improve the team their first year, and they don't make constant bonehead moves. The ONLY thing that improved last season was the play calling, and even that was suspect during several games. I have no idea how old you are or how long you have been a Bills fan, all I can say if I've been a fan and have attended Buffalo Bills games OJ Simpson was the starting RB. You appear to be new at this because you are defending another of RW's scrub hires. Lest you forget, Chan Gailey was fired in his previous job as OC of the 2-14 KC Chiefs So you can recommend all you want, I'm staying right here, and will continue to rail, piss, B word, and moan all I want... as is my right. Until either until the current owner awakens and hires a good HC or the team passes to another owner. P.S. you didn't answer the question... who exactly is going to "reload" this team, the same men who thought Cornell Green was an effective RT at 3 mill a year?
-
Oh... so now you know what the hell I'm talking about. Sok, you were defending him, and I get the reason why, in that he is only been the HC for one season, and you want to give the man some leeway to build the team the way he wants.... I'm just not going to give him any ! Why should I not comment about his many mistakes and blunders, this guy is just another scrub HC in the long line of ( wanna be's-has been's-maybe's) scrub head coaches hired by this owner. Its not scapegoating the guy if I'm pointing out his very valid mistakes. You point out that he was handed a bad O line, and I point out he was given an entire off season to correct the situation. Was it entirely his fault because the scouting staff sucks so bad they can't determine the difference between a bad player and good player.... yea, it is entirely his fault....as the HC it is entirely his fault for not looking over each and every player acquired by the team. There is a reason the team was worse last year at 4-12 then the year before with Jauron-Fewell, Gailey isn't part of the problem... he IS the problem. The owner states that the reason this team loses is because of the lack of talent on the field, its more because of the lack of talent on the sidelines in the coaching and FO staffs, and has been for a decade. This team has been losing and reloading the coaching staffs for over a decade, exactly who is going to be grading and evaluating the new players so the team "loads up"? The very same men who thought Green was a 3mill a year RT? Your take is Chan Gailey had Fitz prepped and ready to go after cutting Edwrads, my take is that Gailey was darn lucky Fitz was still there or didn't suffer a serious injury during the year, because last years team goes win less without Fitz. Lets not forget Fitz was out injured for one game last year and one game the year before. What happens if Fitz gets hit as hard as Edwards did in Arizona and starts playing like Edwards, like Losman. Why guys like you continue to defend these loser coaches this owner hires is the reason the stadium is always filled, and more importantly the reason why things will never change with RW as owner.
-
I wasn't against the Spiller pick, and in fact I thought choosing a RB was a good idea considering the state of affairs concerning Marshawn Lynch. Then again I thought they would go O line before the 5th round, even then that 5th rounder never saw the field, which was pretty bad considering how desperate the Bills were for steady play at RT. Also, I don't have access to run a check on any player like the Bills do..... so I would know stuff like ....can he block, does he know protections, does he know the receiver route tree, does he know more then one route? Clearly Spiller is another one trick pony with speed just like Aaron Maybin, and just like Maybin what good is the speed if the player doesn't understand how to utilize it. What good is a player who can't block or tackle at any position, save QB. To say the Bills scouts screwed the pooch again would be an understatement, I just don't get how this scouting staff can be so bad for this long and still retain their jobs Anthony Davis T or trade back and get Bulaga RT Brian Orakpo or Oher i was ok with McKelvin I was ok with ML Ngata
-
Nobody is arguing that Fitz wasn't the better QB, in fact I pointed out that Perry Fewell benched Edwards in favor of Fitz the year before. Last years O line was clearly worse then the year previous simply because they had walk ons playing RT most of the year. Posting the sacks stats between the two QB's doesn't necessarily point to the difference between the O lines. If you watched the games over the last few years then you also noticed that Fitz had more escape-ability when he played vs Edwards. There were also many variables besides the two O lines and QB's, player changes, play caller changes, offensive scheme changes, protection scheme changes. ETC. Gailey had a crappy OL to work with last year. To wit: because Gailey drafted a crappy RB with the 1st round pick , and didn't draft an O linemen until round 5, even then that player was such a project that he didn't see the field despite the fact that the Bills were desperate for stability at RT all season long. That underlined sentence of yours sure sounds to me like you are defending Gailey...again.

Are you denying that you stated : "The greatest chef in.the world isn't going to make ground beef into a porterhouse. Edwards has turned into a head case and Brohm just doesn't have the talent. Neither one is coachable. It's not fair to dump those two on Gailey's doorstep." When I read that it sounds like you are defending Chan Gaileys inability to mold either of those two into serviceable NFL QB's, even as backups. Thats what the hell I'm talking about! BTW, apparently Chan Gailey thought Edwards was still coach-able, because he wasted an entire off season preparing Edwards as the starter
-
well, not for nothing but you did stand up for him when made the statement Edwards was good until he was concussed and knocked out of the game in Arizona, and very coach-able early in his career. Jauron was such an unbelievable moron in terms understanding how to build an offense and offensive line, and yet the new supposed offensive minded guru actually made that horrid O line worse then it already was.

Its OK if you don't want to hang any blame for those two on Gailey, he didn't draft either. But then he shouldn't get all the credit for Fitz playing as well as he did either. What has Chan Gailey done so far to make you think he is a good HC? At 4-12 the team was worse last year under Gailey then it was under Jauron or Fewell. Isn't the offense this HC's specialty? The O line didn't improve in any aspect, it got worse at RT all season long, the defense remained one of the worst in the league, even after the secondary improving to one of the best last season under Fewell. it regressed this season, 3-4 or 4-3 it didn't matter, they couldn't stop the pass or run, special teams got worse I will give Gailey some credit for his play calling at times, it was better then Turk Schonert or AVP. But then I think back to that Miami game in which all he called was shotgun passing plays with a RB and RT that couldn't block anyone.... The pass offense improved because Fitz was able to call protections-read defenses-quickly release the ball before the pass rush got to him. plus he showed some amazing escape-ability in some games The run offense was worse in YPG and If not for Fred Jackson they have no running game at all, if not for Fitz they have no passing game at all. The O line looked like it improved but it actually regressed last season. They had walk-ons at RT who played better then the guy they brought in and paid 3 mil to. Pass protection schemes were horrid from day one and it was Fitzy's escape ability that allowed him to survive most games. remember the Jets game where Fitz was the leading rusher, it was because he was running for his life most of that game. Chan Gailey names CJ Spiller the starting RB when Fred Jackson hurts his hand, never mind the fact that the new RB doesn't know how to block, pick up blitzes or even find a hole. Never-mind the fact that the new RT Cornell Green doesn't know how to block either, plus he isn't even quick enough or smart enough to move in front of opposing players to stall them for a second or two. Those two areas alone should show you that this HC didn't prepare his players properly or even know that his players weren't properly prepared. HTF do you name a player the starter and then need to see him play in a game to find out that he can neither run or block... This head coach is so far removed from a HC that actually knows what he is doing.... Dick Jauron did a better job his first year.... now I just wonder how long it will take for the rest of you to see it.

As bad a player as you think Donte Whitner is, the guy has done a decent job considering the coaches during his stay in Buffalo, plus he has remained a starter. Somehow I don't see it as entirely his fault in that he has to constantly chase down RB's that are getting thru the gaps because the linemen and LB's are out of position and can't tackle. This Buffalo Bills front seven haven't stopped any team from running for 5 years. I'm kinda surprised the guy doesn't have pure white hair from all the worry, knowing he has to do his job and most everyone elses... not many in front of him know how to tackle. Not to mention that the guy was the 56th rated player coming outta the draft, again not his fault he was selected so high, and therefore carried high expect ions about his play. At least the guy was on the field and did the best he could given the circumstances. Spiller was a liability as a RB last season, he couldn't block worth a damn so he was only involved in called run plays or specific pass plays in which he was the main target Imagine Chan Gaileys surprise when he names Spiller the starting RB to open the season.... only to find that he was getting the QB killed every pass play, and then couldn't find a hole to save his life....he didn't stay the starter for very long... a few plays maybe.

Agreed on both statements! As I recall last year a few months before the draft that was all Chan Gailey was talking about was, a "water-bug" type guy. My take is, he coached against Spiller in college, and knew his potential for big plays, and then sold it to the rest of the Bills org, so they drafted him. What escapes everyone is the fact that no scout did the proper homework on this #1 pick...all of the RB's drafted in the first round after this kid did so much better last season. WTF good is a RB that can't block...that perhaps isn't smart enough to learn and understand a complex passing offense? Everyone posting here seems convinced that this player can improve over time, he was already given an entire off season, mini camps-training camp-preseason games, and didn't learn... he was attending college right? coaching or player?.... I kinda miss Eric Studesville.... So far all this kid has done has shown is that he is another one trick pony in the mold of Aaron Maybin....kinda scary as a Bills fan looking at what this scouting staff/coaching staff has done with #1 picks over the last few years Maybin-Spiller-McCargo-Losmnan.... So this begs another question, do both the scouting staff and coaching staff have a clue as to knowing how to do their jobs? The scouts get a pass here based on past years of draft stupidity, but now that GM Buddy Nix has seen first hand...with his own eyes.... how badly his scouts botched his free agent acquisition of RT Green and first round pick CJ Spiller.... will he now over ride their input and put forth the effort to throughly scout all players himself, and make the proper choices? His credibility as a lifetime of being a scout is now on the line as everyone will now see if he knows what he is doing. Now, one could argue that the Bills had such an atrociously bad offensive line that didn't run block very well, and therefore Spiller couldn't have a successful season under any circumstance... and yet...an undrafted free agent walk-on in Fred Jackson was the better RB in finding and hitting the hole, being an elusive runner, blocking, in passing schemes, and already was one of the very best 3rd down backs in the league. About the only thing Spiller can do better then Jackson is outrun him in a straight line from goal line to goal line, or the 40 yd dash. So this begs the question, WTF was Spiller even drafted in the first place? best player available, according to who? thats BS because Spiller wasn't even the best rated RB by most other teams, specifically because a RB is useless if he can't block. The Bills went into last years draft and stated the the O line was a "priority" and then after the draft stated that the draft didn't "fall" right for them to draft a tackle until the 5th round. So the team struggled to find a suitable RT all last season, even had walk ons off the street who played better then FA Green who the bills paid 3 mill. Chan Gailey getting so much recognition as a great QB developer because Fitz played so well in some games last year....and yet... Gailey failed to improve Trent Edwards, even after working with the guy all off season...mini camps...training camp...preseason, and defended the guy right up until he cut him after two regular season games. Gailey even finally cut Brian Brohm after the season where he started one game in which he replaced fitz...so the guy failed to develop 2 of 3 QB's. Wanna know my take, Gailey isn't such a great QB coach/developer like some claim, he just got lucky that Fitz was sitting behind Edwards on the bench. Even last seasons coaching staff already knew Fitz was the better choice as Edwards was benched in favor of Fitz by Perry Fewell the season before. Fitz played well against teams like Pittsburgh-Baltimore-Cincy-Cleveland because he played against them in the past when he was the starter in Cincy during the time Carson Palmer was injured. So he knew those teams and knew how to defeat their defenses, so he played well against them. Chan Gailey gets most of the credit of those 4 wins, even with a horrid defense, no running game, bad O line, poor overall coaching... I couldn't stand Fitz at first... but he is now my hero, and he should get ALL the credit for those 4 wins, and almost wins...all Gailey did in my eyes is call the plays. Smoke screens...I think this current Bills scouting-coaching staff has enough trouble simply dressing themselves and tying to tie their own shoes properly, most should wear loafers, and pull ups-pull ons... the ineptitude that STILL pervades throughout OBD is nearing epic proportions, even by NFL standards. The Buffalo Bills are already at the bottom of the AFC East division, and will likely remain there...but, will they be the worst team in the NFL in 2011...good chance should Fitz suffer an injury early Food for thought..... http://walterfootball.com/draft2010.php BOTTOM LINE: The Bills will NOT select a QB in the first round this year (unless they trade back and obtain more then one pick this year, not likely according to Nix or trade back up into the first). The reason of NOT choosing a QB with that first pick? Chan Gailey must now realize he is simply to mentality overloaded trying to teach his coaches, teach his players, all while trying to do way to many jobs besides just being a HC ....to draft a QB in the first with that #3, and then have the fans clamor for the guy to start...then he will need to spend most of his limited time trying to develop the guy. I'd say "no way" with 100% certainty...but then there is always the RW factor. Logic should dictate no big surprises this year, Dareus-Miller-Peterson depending on what the Panthers and Broncos do in front of the Bills

Most fans that come to this board and post are all well aware of the ineptitude that permeates throughout this franchise, about the only thing this team has been good at over the last decade is marketing, and selling season tickets. The owner made himself president after he fired Tom Donahoe and the team has gone down hill since then... in almost every aspect ....besides the ticket sales! Looking around the NFL the last ten years or so about the only team that even comes close to the ineptitude of the Buffalo Bills in terms of player acquisition was the Detroit Lions when Matt Millen was president of the team. Lets face facts here, nobody really knows how much influence or input the owner has had in the drafts for the last ten years, but considering he is the president and has a reputation of having his nose in everything, he takes all the responsibility.Just to show how the owner of this team disregards fan intelligence, he boldly states that the player talent is lacking, and yet he himself is entire reason the team lacks talent. Anyway, I have no faith that this team will select anyone of any value at any position in the upcoming draft simply because of their past history of bad draft choices. Carolina-Denver-Buffalo-Cincy-Arizona-San Fran-Tenn-Minn-Miami-Jacksonville-Seattle all lack a true a "franchise" QB. I can see Gabbert-Locker-Newton-Ponder-Mallett all going in the first round, there is even a rumor that NE is looking long and hard at Ponder with their late first round pick
