51 years without picking a QB first
thewildrabbit replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Be grateful that Carolina drafted Cam Newton #1 overall because the bills would have surely selected him I say be grateful because there was no elite Franchise QB in this years draft, all of them graded as projects. There was no Sam Bradford, no Matthew Stafford, clearly the Bills FO didn't think there was a Joe Flacco-Matt Ryan-Josh freeman either or they would have drafted one. With Buffalo not selecting a starting RT-G-LT or TE in this years draft perhaps Fitz gets a serious injury early and the Bills go 0-16, then they could then draft Andrew Luck with the first overall...hey, you can dream -
agreed, and who Mike Mayock called a "beast" A little disappointed the Bills didn't go OT earlier as they drafted another project and need help now, didn't draft a TE. I just hope they got some starters this year besides Darius

Let me try this one more time... The reason why some of us are saying there is no "franchise" QB in this years draft is because there wasn't one, we KNOW this because every draft website I've been to is stating there is no Matthew Stafford-Sam Bradford type elite QB in this years draft class. All the QB's in this years draft are PROJECTS, none are NFL ready like Bradford was, none have the pinpoint accuracy needed in the NFL like Bradford does. Most ran a spread offense and were told by their college coach to NOT throw into tight windows, if the main receiver isn't wide open, then run it! Most NFL QB's take 2-3 years to develop, the last few years have been an anomaly in terms of QB's starting immediately. Dan Marino did it, Big Ben did it,Joe Flacco & Matt Ryan did it to a degree. Aaron Rodgers sat on the bench for 3 years while he learned the NFL system. Guys like Payton Manning- John Elway-Troy Aikman came into the league and took their lumps as starters, Matthew Stafford did that as well but has been injured most of the time because he went to a bad team with a bad O line. Cam Newton was only rated as a mid first round pick by every website I went to, not the #1 overall! Newton was drafted #1 overall by Carolina because they were DESPERATE for a QB, they are also darn stupid IMO. But I'm so happy they took Newton, because after reading what Nevergiveup stated, and what Buddy Nix was quoted as saying ""But when he was there and (Cam) Newton was gone, he was there, it was an easy pick."" If Carolina had passed then Buffalo would have selected Newton. That guy is such a huge project and unless the team that drafted him completely revamed their offense to a simplistic style like he ran in college, he won't be effective his first year. Newton does not have pinpoint accuracy, he doesn't know how to call plays, read defenses, setup protections, call alerts, he doesn't even know NFL verbiage as he was a one read and run QB. The way Auburn coaches called plays was by holding up a sign on the sideline with one number on it. This kid has so much to learn I highly doubt he will become a decent pocket passer for at least 2 years or more. So stating that, how would it help Buffalo to draft another 3rd round Trent Edwards- 2nd round Brian Brohm 1st round JP Losman and wait 3 years to see if he will eventually develop, it wouldn't IMO. Like I stated earlier, Fitz is NOT a franchise QB at this point, but who is to say that he can't further develop into a Rich Gannon type journeyman and lead the Bills to the playoffs. The QB play is still very dependent on his surrounding cast, lets hope the Bills give Fitz some help with a TE-OT-OG in the draft.

it was...SKOOBY Be grateful he is gone, I think he either was, or was related to Turk Schonert as they both seem to have departed around the same time frame

I agree sorta, If there was a QB in this years draft better then Fitz I think the Bills would have drafted him. Although perhaps the Bills thought Cam Newton was good enough, but I hope not tho considering his character issues. Anyway, every QB in the draft this year was either a project or had a shady past, the Bills had other needs to fill. Is Fitz a franchise QB... no, not ATM IMO. But lets not forget how well he played given his surrounding cast of players, a walk on RT, no TE, no running game, one WR. With Lee Evans injured and out Fitz helped a kid come off the bench get 1000 yards receiving and 10 TDs.Lets also not forget how Trent Edwards and Brian Brohm played with this same supporting cast of players, they both fell on their faces. If Chan Gailey states that he can win with Fitz, I for one believe him... so why not give him the chance I say. The Bills would have won that game against the Super bowl runner up Pittsburgh Steelers, in Buffalo, in overtime, if Stevie Johnson doesn't drop that TD pass right in his hands, in the end zone. Fitz played pretty well against the Ravens on the road in Baltimore also taking that game to overtime.... I look at Fitz and see a journeyman QB like Rich Gannon, another guy who wasn't a "franchise" QB, but was good enough to take the Raiders to a SB.

Take Ryan Mallet Buddy
thewildrabbit replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Andy Dalton before Mallett, the Bills couldn't protect Mallett with an Abrams tank, that o line still needs a ton of help I'm thinking Kyle Rudolf would be another option, the Bills haven't had a dominate tight end in forever, or an RoT. getting weary from watching "pants on the ground" Fitz run for his life -
Darius was undoubtedly the best of the top 4 I'd bang the table for ....so IMO the bills just had the best draft selection of the decade , All thanks to Carolina

I'm not un happy that Chan Gailey didn't get his dream QB in newton, because I'm pretty sure the NFL isn't ready to become a one read and run league

Let me second everything you said

Didn't see anything about this posted on their site, but perhaps this means that its almost 100% now that the Panthers take Newton Think about throwing out some disinformation to other teams that might be interested in a QB, this might cause them to trade up with either Buffalo or Denver to tab Gabbert, if its with Denver that leaves more options for the Bills to get Darius or Miller. Personally I think Gabberts stock has fallen despite the fact so many teams need a QB, and while Jake Locker and Ryan Mallett have seen their stock rise somewhat. I can see Locker taken in the top 15 and Mallett late in the first, Gabbert where he should be in middle of the first.

Nix for the love of all that is holy
thewildrabbit replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Me also... Wanna really be scared, go take a look at Nevergiveup's update thread in his post he writes that Nix has Newton / Darius at the top of his board -
Where do you guys get this stuff from.... from what I read in this thread Ngu first posted in this forum that Buddy Nix would be the next GM. I'm not under any impression who Ngu is, nor have I ever stated such. Exactly how am I showing off by stating the truth? Did you actually read who I was responding to, it wasn't Ngu. Another poster made a comment t and all I was doing was responding to it., which is my right. If you don't like what I write then feel free to put me on ignore or don't read my posts, but first I'd suggest you gain some reading comprehension because my post you quoted was not a response directed at Ngu Why don't you follow your own advice and grow up and learn to shut your mouth! ... better yet go have a beer and relax, the only screaming going on must be inside your head

Panthers narrow selection to 4
thewildrabbit replied to DisplacedBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
wth happened to Von Miller? The top 4 players with the best overall grade according to ESPN, Scout INC and NFL network are Darius- Miller-Peterson-Green Kiper's grading order- Peterson Von Miller-AJ Green-Darius, but then last night while watching NFL Live I heard Kiper state that he thinks that the Panthers should take AJ Green. Anyway, Newton is a only mid round pick according to ESPN's draftniks McShay and Kiper, it is because of the huge need at QB that they both project him to Carolina #1 overall. What really scares the #$!% outta me is that "Nevergiveup" stated that Newton and Darius are at the top of Buffalo's draft board (see update thread) -
A.J Green will be the # 3 pick
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo 66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He needs to pad his posts the four players with the best grades are Darius-Von Miller-Peterson-AJ Green, IDC which one the Bills draft as long as its one of those 4 guys -
That is awesome news, thank you for that info Ngu and always appreciate your valued insight into the inner workings at OBD On the last comment, I saw the difference in photos of Maybin pre-combine and at the combine, the kid put on 20lbs of muscle and looked like he had just completed the PX90 program. although he ran a 4.85 at the combine, he ran a much improved 4.59 at his pro day 40.vert leap and Broad Jumped 10' 9'' At 6'4 250 lbs he is very close to Cam Newton physically, BTW Newton ran a 4.58- 4.59 at the combine.... kinda eerily similar http://blog.pennlive.com/bobflounders/2009/03/maybin_significantly_lowers_40.html My comparison between the two players was based on how much of a project they both are concerning their abilities to develop into NFL starters, Maybin had a huge learning curve to get thru and still hasn't progressed. Newton's learning curve is much much higher and tougher as an NFL QB he will need to eventually throw from the pocket, read defenses, call protections, learn the verbiage, call alerts et al. The simple fact that he was caught cheating on his exams 3x at Fla makes me think this kid is going to have trouble making the transition into the NFL.

I agree I'm not advocating that the Bills pass on Darius or Von Miller, but if its a worst case scenario where Carolina takes Darius, Denver takes Miller and its a choice between Patrick Peterson or AJ Green I don't care which they take as long as they take one of those two. I can see AJ Green having a huge impact on the offense tho. Think a "New & Shiny" version of Randy Moss with no baggage.
-
well if what your stating happens to be true, then its a turnaround from years past where they took a one year wonder in Aaron Maybin, low Character player in Marshawn Lynch- Travis Henry- low Intelligence un-named RB drafted recently-Last season the O line was a "priority" that they failed to address because things didn't fall their way. Players with no ability in John McCargo. What worries me the most is that Buddy Nix openly stated he wished he had the first overall pick, and all I think of is Cam Newton... Hey, I hope they do the smart thing and do everything you stated....its just that past history has shown something different
-
I agree either AJ Green or Peterson I look at AJ Green and think if Fitz cant take a nobody from the bench and get him 1000 yards and ten TD's, just think what he could do with younger version of Randy Moss, holy cow.... To the other posters who think that Green would be a luxery pick, Buffalo WR corps currently stinks as they have one good WR in Stevie Johnson. Lee Evans has a tough time breaking away from defenders and just doesn't catch enough balls like the premier WR should. Even if they keep Johnson-Evans-Parish and Easly has a breakout year, thats only 4 WRs...whats happens when they want to run a 5 WR set? I know that there are guys I've never heard a thing about on the current depth chart-- David Nelson-Donald Jones-Naaman Roosevelt-Paul Hubbard

Report: Skins want to trade up to #2
thewildrabbit replied to Reddy Freddy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
what makes this year so unique is that since there is no free agency and teams haven't been able to acquire a starting or back up QB ....so they are looking at the draft. 1Carolina-3 Buffalo-4 Cincinnati-5 Arizona-7 San Francisco-8 Tennessee- 10 Washington-12 Minnesota- 15 Miami all lack a true "franchise" QB If Washington trades up with Denver, it is solely to draft Blane Gabbert IMO. I simply can't see them making that move for Miller or Darius There easily could be 5 QB's taken in the first round this year- Newton-Gabbert-Locker-Mallett-Dalton, and maybe even Ponder
