  1. I honestly thought the Bills would make a strong pitch for Vince Young. Tebow definitely fits that mold of Brad Smith-Cam Newton- VY so perhaps the Bills did want to move up to draft him last year. Considering how bad the O line currently is I gotta wonder if Fitz-Tyler-Smith can last the season, if not Tebow certainly could enter the picture. The Bills are gonna go pistol-waildcat then why not spread-option and bring in Tebow and let him run what he did in college. Right now Bronco fans want Tebow, they want a winner. But clearly the Denver FO isn't going to change from the traditional drop back QB pro style. Things could get interesting this year if the Bills need him, and can get him cheap
  2. If I'm not mistaken the last thing I heard from RW was that he stated that if he made to the breakfast table in the morning it was a good day.
  3. I think what escapes most fans is that this owner doesn't care if his team wins a SB, what he does care about is if his stadium is filled and he is making a profit. I just don't get being 26.5 million dollars under the cap and not even trying to solidify the O line with a FA pick up so the team can at least be mediocre, right now they are trying a guard at LT.
  4. Seems like many fans have short memories about last season, most only want to remember the wins and almost wins.Whats scary is that the Bills lost Lee Evans for the final 3 games, and although the Bills did beat the Dolphins they were literally destroyed by the Patriots and Jets. I gotta wonder how much the loss of Evans will hurt the offense this year. Then looking at all the injuries so far, many knocked out for the rest of the preseason. The O line getting shifted around, a guard playing LT... it could be another bad start this year.
  5. Well, The Patriots just brought in two players, Albert and Chad The Jets tried to obtain the highest paid DB in the game, I suppose they will be forced to make do with the second highest paid DB. What are the Bills, under the cap by...29 million? I can guarantee that if the Bills go win less or 2-14, that there is no leash
  6. Its not just the concussion in Arizona that did in Trent Edwards, it was the multiple concussions, the bad scheme, bad O line and lousy coaching that did him in, just like it did with JP....but then that same formula has done in every QB since Jim Kelly
  7. On the contrary, Nix stated " we are not that far away" when he first took over. It was only after 5 straight loses that he changed that tune to "its going to take some time" Then at the bye after 0-8 the owner stated PP, its going to take pain and patience. If the Bills tank this season and finish with another 4-12 record or worse, I just don't see both Nix and Gailey keeping their jobs. But then again, Tom Modrak kept his job for almost a decade, it might take RW to pass before this team replaces anyone now. PS. only Buffalo Bills fans are content to wait 4 years to see if the team will win... yeah and we should all hope Rex Ryan and Bill Belichick will also retire by then
  8. Yeah! Well said.
  9. NFN but just about every one of those players is another teams cast off, and just because they are on the roster or starting doesn't mean they are worth a darn.Tyson Clabo would have been a top free agent. When I state Nix doesn't believe in building thru free agency, I kinda mean top talent...which would mean top money. Brad Smith does add something interesting to the offense, but will the wildcat work well with this O line? This almost seems like another Spiller deal, the less Fitz is on the field the less rhythm and continuity the starting players will have.JMO After the draft and before free agency I was really down that this staff basically ignored the O line again and posted my disappointment many times. I was met by a slew of kool-aid drinkers who think Gailey-Nix are the second coming of Levy- Polian, and can do no wrong. Even tho both men made many mistakes their first year. What gives me solace now is the fact that I see I'm not the only one disappointed, I see and hear from many many fans out there that are very dissatisfied by this staff and their moves, and or lack of moves in building up the offense. Trading away Lee Evans for a 4th rounder...jeez the Bills lost their best deep threat, and a former #1 draft pick for a maybe who may never make the team. After reading all the posts here by Bills fans concerned about the offense, and the line, I tend to think this duo have this year to better that 4-12 record, if they don't then I don't see them getting a 3rd year.
  10. When the Bills don't pay him the Patriots will pick him up and go to the SB with him. Freddy is better then anyone the Jets,Dolphins or Patriots have on their rosters. Is Gailey trying to justify that #1 pick to try and prove he is better then Jauron? Remember he boldly stated after he drafted him that he would make the O line block better...speaking of blocking Seriously, the only way this kid is going to get better is to work him and get him playing experience. What better way to do that then in preseason games.
  11. This is a 5 year rebuild, or maybe longer. I've never seen a team ignore the O line like this team has over the last decade. Don't forget that Nix doesn't like building thru free agency, and has proved that to be true! Considering how many draft picks have been used to solidify the DB's and D line ...he Bills should have a top 10 defense, they don't! A very average LB's corps will be the reason. The SB champs let their MLB walk and the Bills pick him up and think they found gold... The O line is below average in at least 2, maybe 3 spots and because of that the current Bills QB's will get manhandled by the good teams. The Bills will indeed be looking for a "franchise" QB in the draft next year, so QB-OL-LB will be on the table for next years draft. But! Somehow I still think the man behind the curtain will want more "skill" positions filled next draft...especially if Spiller doesn't meet his potential. So QB-RB-WR-LB and then maybe an O linemen. The Bills offense will suck even worse this year then last year. with no viable deep threat to draw coverages away from the run game ...opponents will stack the box even tighter. I think the receiving corps will sorely miss Lee Evans as Stevie Johnson is going to have difficulty as a #1 receiver. Fitz is going to have a tougher time as opponents know he is the starter and will bump the receivers out of their routes to stop the quick short passes. Good teams will easily out game plan Chan Gailey and this year he might eventually realize that in the NFL you need good solid O linemen to run / pass block or you simply won't win many games. The running game will miss Lynch and his power as Fred Jackson will have a tough time carrying the full load, Spiller has already shown how impatient he is behind his blockers as he can't find a hole if there is no hole. I honestly don't ever see this team crawling out of the bottom of the AFC East with this GM and HC.
  12. switching the QB's and running a wildcat will only keep fitz from developing timing and rythum I suspect it will still be a jailbreak again this year on Bills QB's, kinda good that Fitz isn't going to be the only guy taking a pounding
  13. Last year Fitz had a 6.7 yard per average rush, and threw for 3000 yards while playing only 13 games as back up QB. In that loss to the Jets Fitz was the leading rusher because he was running for his life almost every play. 7 carries for 74 yards http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/8664/ryan-fitzpatrick If you look up Vick he was at 6.8 YPR This is entire thread is moronic... Thigpin looked decent against 3rd stringers, what happened last week?
  14. Considering the amount of draft picks this franchise has put into DB's & D linemen the Bills should have a top ten defense. But, looking over the last decade of bad coaching, bad scouting, and bad drafting... this is what you get when you hire inferior personnel. To correct this crap all the Bills would really need to do is find the right head coach like they did with Chuck Knox. He would would make everybody else on the football side look brilliant! And no, its not Chan! he allowed Green, Spiller & Trent Edwards to start last season, so he can only judge players after they fail!
  15. This kid will make the O line block better... Not every player steps into the NFL and is ready to compete right away, RB's shouldn't need 3 years to develop tho. Anyway, lets see what he does this season before declaring him a bust.
  16. Perhaps gailey just wanted to run plays and see how his players performed in those plays and didn't scout or game plan to win. Denver was the worst team in the NFL last year against the run and still have suspect DT's, if the Bills were playing to win I would think they would run the ball till Spiller's & Jackson's legs couldn't take anymore. Then let Brad Smith run it at them. That starting O line looked very suspect against a bad Denver defense, dunno why the Bills aren't calling up every FA tackle out there
  17. This post is ridicules. Bell =always injured and allows way to many pressures. The biggest problem I have with Bell is when its the 4th QTR and the game in on the line ...he plays his worst Levite = gets pushed around to much Hangartner=back bad, would make a decent backup Wood = stud and only good solid player on that line RT= they all stink The O line will be the reason this team fails to win again this year. They might be able to compete against other bad teams, but the good teams will dominate them.
  18. Excellent point ! This goes hand in hand with good coaching as Its not only finding great players its also developing them properly. Trent Edwards was from Stanford where he played in a west coast offense, he came to Buffalo and was trained in that crappy Mike Martz system. Not even by Martz, but by his OC at St Louis who never even called the plays, Martz did. Steve Fairchild was learning the system under Martz when he was hired away by Buffalo. Fairchild left to take a college HCing job after one year so Jauron promoted the QB coach. He then went on to fire Schonert 2 weeks before the season starts and promotes the QB coach again.Talk about a cluster fluck way to develop a QB. You guys know that Martz system, it got Kurt Warner injured, Mark Bolger injured and now is getting Jay Cutler killed. Another incident was with Jason Peters. 25 year veteran O line coach Jim McNally finds and develops Peters from a tight end free agent walk on into a pro bowl left tackle. That line with Peters-Dockery-Butler-Walker was pretty darn good, the only problem was the Bills couldn't find a center worth a darn so that O line never really gained any continuity. Melvin Fowler was the weak link, then Duke Preston the following year. McNally retires and Jauron replaces him with an assistant instead of hiring another coach with experience. The man who replaced McNally eventually became a decent line coach, but it took a few years. In the mean time the line play went down hill, protections went bad. That was the year the Bills went down to Arizona and Edwards suffered a severe concussion. Knowing how lame that staff was under Jauron I'll wager they let Edwards play again to soon. When you hire a top head coach like the Bills did with Chuck Knox he knew how to draft the proper players, and how to properly develop them. Guard Jim Richter was a #1 pick in 1980 and spent 3 years on the bench and played special teams until he was ready. He played 16 seasons in the NFL at guard. I don't see how RW can stand paying players like Maybin and McCargo and get nothing in return, and watch his teams fail year after year and let it continue for so long...or maybe that's just me Anyway, now we have to wait another year or two to see if Nix really knows what he is doing concerning his drafted players, and we also need to see if Gailey's staff can develop them properly .
  19. Again, I'm happy for you that "you" feel empathy. jauron was horrible, and yet 7-9 still beats 4-12 I for one want to see some actual production on the field from the players this staff drafted, plus I'd like to see that production translate into wins.
  20. I'm happy for you that "you" are pleased with Nix & Gailey and the direction they are taking the team. However, I'm not! They screwed the pooch is so many areas in their first year. Not one player started from last years draft class and we still need to see if any of those players will actually ever make an impact. Besides Marcel Darius fell into their laps, and Williams we still have to see what this years draft class offers. 2 years, 2 drafts, 2 free agency periods and still no RT, still no depth on that O line. no decent free agents, minimal impact from any of the players drafted so far. What i posted earlier wasn't crying about the last 11 seasons, it was merely stating the reason as to why this franchise has been so inept, and from what I've seen so far from the good ole boy team things really haven't gotten better. The team did go 4-12 last year, which was worse then Jauron. This staff still has a bunch to prove to some of us. Get busy waking up!
  21. What you don't get is ...its not about numbers! The Bills could draft all 224 players out there and bring them all into camp and still not figure out which are the best. Its about evaluating college talent before they hit the NFL level, this franchise has shown they haven't been able to do that since Bill Polian- John Butler. This is the entire reason as to why Bill Polian is so successful as Gm / president, same with Ozzie Newsome of the Ravens. The Buffalo Bills had 3 of the very best talent evaluators in the NFL and fired them all. Bill Polian- John Butler- AJ Smith In Bills Polians case he should have just sat back and let the man run his org like the Colts owner is doing, instead he has to have his nose in everything. With John Butler he should have paid him top dollar and hired a capoligist to help him. Ralph Wilson's famous words to Butler after he didn't immediately accept Wilson's offer of a new contract "If I can't hire you, I'll fire you! The season wasn't even over when Wilson did this. This owner keeps cutting his own throat to save a buck..plus he is noted for a very cantankerous demeanor Think about how different this franchise would have been the last 15 yearsif the Bills had retained any or all 3 of those men.
  22. No, that statement should read it took him 2 drafts and 2 free agency periods and 3 weeks into camp to just realize this?!?!? The fan base here has expressed more concern over the O line since Nix / Gailey were hired. Even the media asked Nix before his first draft and both Nix & Gailey stated at that time that the O line was a "priority"! Then after the draft he stated that because the way the draft "unfolded' he was unable to obtain any decent line players....but he managed to draft a "waterbug" scatback #1 and D linemen #2-#3-#6 Honestly, this just sounds like a bunch of crap to appease the fan base who know better, and have known better. So when Fitz gets his a$ handed to him this year and gets put on IR the Bills will announce they are drafting a QB.... and its starts all over again. Same crap different year, different faces save the man behind the curtain pulling all the strings. I feel bad for all the devoted fans out there that love the Bills, spend their hard earned money to support the team and keep getting hoodwinked by a charlatan year after year. Snake oil anyone? "'Propaganda"" is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position so as to benefit oneself. C'mon guys, it doesn't take 3-6 years to rebuild a team. Atlanta- Kansas City-Miami- Tampa Bay all recent rebuilds, and now this year it will be Detroit and St Louis. Even in Buffalo Bills history it didn't take this long for Chuck Knox or Bill Polian. In two years those teams had the team turned around from 2-14 / 3-11and those teams were far worse then what Nix - Gailey encountered when they first arrived Remember Nix's line...""we are not that far away"" Before Knox in 77, 3-11. First year 5-11 got better, second year 7-9, third year 11-5 Before Polain became GM in 85, 2-14 First year 4-12 got better, second year 7-8, third year 12-4 Nix Gailey took over from Jauron- Fewell 6-10, Nix-Gailey first year got worse 4-12 not better
  23. How can someone who only worked as GM for 2006-2007 be held responsible for a decade of failure, for what happened before he was hired as GM as well as the four years after he left? Understand that the Buffalo Bills have sucked for more then a decade, they sucked before Marv took over as GM, they sucked during the time he was GM and they sucked after...and they still suck. What is the real constant that has been the main reason as to why this franchise has failed year after year for so long? One only has to look at the very top of the organization. The owner was the president of the team before Tom Donahoe and after Donahoe left and still is sitting in the most powerful seat on all the teams decision The thing that really gets me is that as little as two years ago this owner stood up in front of the world and declared the team is lacking in talent, and he chuckled about it! Well, wth, like someone else is responsible for hiring and retaining an inept scouting staff and coaches for a decade. If there is one thing that has burned into my mind is this owners ability to fill his stadium year after year (filling his pockets at the same time) with such devoted fans so desperate for a winner that they basically ignore the man behind the curtain pulling all the strings. In the movie the wizard of Oz the man behind the curtain actually tries to help at the end. Seriously Mrs Wilson... stop trying to blame Marv
  24. If that first sentence were true then why would the Bills go after Claybo like they did? Dunno why this team has ignored building the line for so long, just seems epically moronic to me. There is always some skill player who looks like he might sell more tickets then a big ugly on the line I suppose
  25. Gotta disagree on Fitz, last year he was about as good a scrambler as you can get in the NFL, only Mike Vick had a slightly better yard per carry average rush at 6.7 or so. He was the leading Bills rusher in that first Jets game and was literally running for his life on every play. However, I do agree that the writers assessment of how Fitz scrambles is all wrong. Plus he didn't hold the ball long at all, that ball was out and gone in around 3 seconds or less every play. Fitz only had happy feet because during the first 8 games he had inferior protection and was forced to scramble around quite a bit
