good OP The Chiefs are a running team not geared to make big comebacks, same with the Raiders. If the game is entirely on Jason Campbell shoulders, and the bills stop the run, I don't see the Raiders winning. Conversely if the Raiders get that running game working and play keep away with the ball they could win. The Raiders have a new HC, new OC, new DC and this could be an either good or bad thing. I thought Tom Cable did a really good job with the team last season and I can only dream of the Buffalo Bills sweeping the division like the Raiders did last year Anyway, if the Bills can adequately protect Fitz in this game the Bills should win. jmo

I have no doubt he will be fired eventually, him and his ultra conservative bend but don't break (or stop the run) defense
-
I wouldn't call the circumstances even close to similar, The Bills had who...Dickhead Jauron & OC's that should never have been OC's vs the Texans who have had Gary Kubiak, the guy who worked as OC under Mike Shanahan, and who is a noted offensive minded HC. Also Kubiak took over in 2006! Oh, is that the same year that Johnson emerged from 63 catches a season to 103 with David Carr as QB.
-
Yea, and what team did he play with all those years...who were his HC's, OC's & QB's Jauron-Turk Schonert-AV Pelt. His rookie year he did have Bledsoe, then JP, then TE, then Fitz. I think the guy was under utilized while in Buffalo, I also think he will do better in Baltimore once he learns their offense with a better team around him, better QB, Line, TE's I'm a big Lee Evans fan, unlike some other players all the kid did in Buffalo was keep quiet, and do his best regardless of the teams, coaches, QB's. A class act, I hope he fares well in Baltimore and gets a ring!

Let me re-post what I posted on page 3. This is what Baltimore's HC had to say... WR Lee Evans didn't catch a pass in the season opener, but he did make an impact. According to coach John Harbaugh, Evans' speed on the outside opened up crossing routes for other receivers. (Yahoo! Sports) My take Its only a matter of time before opponents start worrying more about Boldin, Dickson & Rice catching the ball and focus on those players which will leave Evans wide open. Needless to say Flacco has more then enough arm and accuracy to get him the deep ball. JMO If I recall correctly Boldin didn't have an immediate impact last season with the Ravens so you might want to hold Evans in reserve until he starts getting more targets Another thing, all those turnovers came from from the Steeler offense which was caught up in that trap of trying to play catch up. The Ravens and Steelers played a very similar playoff game last season in which the Ravens had a lead by 21-7 at the half. In that game the Steelers managed a comeback to win 31-24. Lewis, Ngata & Suggs had some serious impact in this game ...hungrier?

This is what Baltimore's HC had to say... WR Lee Evans didn't catch a pass in the season opener, but he did make an impact. According to coach John Harbaugh, Evans' speed on the outside opened up crossing routes for other receivers. (Yahoo! Sports) The facts are Evans was making big bucks to be just a decoy in Buffalo, he didn't see the ball as much because he was drawing all the coverage and Fitz didn't target him as much. Plus the fact that many have stated Fitz had a tough time throwing that deep out to Evans accurately. The Ravens have enough talent on that team is almost every aspect expect a WR deep threat. Evans gives them that scary one play TD bomb like Randy Moss gave the Patriots. Its certainly not his fault Buffalo didn't care to continue to utilize him. That deep threat not only opened up the underneath routes it also opened up the running game. NFN but Chan Gailey was the OC in KC just 3 years ago under Todd Haley and he knows the Chiefs playbook pretty well, that had to give the Buffalo Bills a huge advantage against the Chiefs. They also may or may not have changed the terminology for the calls, if they didn't its another big reason as to why Buffalo womped them so hard. It remains to be seen if that Buffalo offense can continue to be as productive as it was against the Chiefs. I hope it is, but something tells me it won't be.

Welcome aboard Lots of whiny little bitches here, along with homers, naysayers and haters among others. This forum even has Jets fans that post here and gloat. It seems we are beneath the Patriots fans atm, but that could change in week 3 -
Bills still not built to beat Pats
thewildrabbit replied to Geno Smith's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't call it a "night and day" difference. Jauron won more games his first year at 7-9 Gailey has had a big impact on the passing offense no doubt, and in this game against the Chiefs he finally got the running game going also. But, if I'm not mistaken even Trent Edwards looked like gold against the Chiefs in 08 beating them 54-31 Some things to consider, Chan Gailey was the OC in KC in 2008 and he knows their playbook, he also knows their defense as his offense would practice against them every week. So the Chiefs might have changed the language / terminology, but I highly doubt they changed their playbook. This had to give a huge edge to the Buffalo Bills. Plus the fact that the Chiefs didn't look ready to start the season in losing all 4 of their pre season games while making the starting QB play quite a bit in the last game because they looked so bad. He was also injured in that last pre season game. Not to take anything away from that glorious win over the Chiefs, but I'm restraining my enthusiasm until they play the Raiders and then the Patriots. The Raiders do have a new HC, new OC, new DC along with Jason Campbell at QB. Stuff the run and make Campbell win the game, the Bills are at home and should win this one. The Patriots should be much tougher to beat, then like I stated eariler they might be drained from playing in that Miami heat and a then playing a tough game against the Chargers. Yea, If the Bills can get pressure up the middle with MD & KW and make Brady hurry his throws like the NY Giants did in the SB, then the Bills have a good chance to win. -
Yea I agree. My take is Chucky is drooling all over Brady because he wishes he had a QB like him when he was a HC.

Bills still not built to beat Pats
thewildrabbit replied to Geno Smith's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Pats starting center broke his ankle, and this could mean a big push in the middle from KW & MD. Plus that game in Miami looks like it took a lot out of the players in that Miami heat. Then next week they play the Chargers which should be a burner and a big time game for both teams, almost a playoff type game that will certainly have an impact at the end of the season. The Patriots seem to lack strong outside pass rushers so Fitz should have decent time to throw.. Gonna be interesting how the Pats handle the Bills in two weeks, they could easily overlook the Bills and falter. At least I hope they do! A bigger concern for Buffalo right now is how are they gonna stop that Raider running game next week, D. McFadden 22 rushes for 150 yards against Denver. I gotta wonder if the Bronco's FO is now thinking they should have drafted Marcel Darius as they gave up 190 yards rushing to Denver at home....too late, he is a Bill -
Not only that, new KC OC Jim Zorn started the game with Charles and McCluster over Thomas Jones, which was the exact opposite of what Charlie Weiss did last year with the same players. Weiss started Jones to pound the ball and soften up the D and then let Charles loose.Needless to say that Jim Zorn might be fired again shortly, or at the least lose his play calling and offensive game planning ability taken away. That KC offense was horrid at QB also, Matt Cassell was terribad all day. I give props to the Bills new D for certain, they only allowed 7 points and the had the better turnover ratio. Right now the Bills have the #3 defense and are 3rd in the turnover ratio which is a huge improvement over last year. I'm not worried at all that the Bills are currently18th against the run because they just played the team that was the best running team in the NFL last season. Lets just hope they keep improving and beat the hell outta Tom Brady in week 3

Ok, who gets your game ball?

Fitz all the way... I don't wanna even think about what that game would have looked like with Brad Smith-Tyler Thigpin as the QB -
Typical National Media Slant...
thewildrabbit replied to ColdBlueNorth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NFN but that Raider team just changed the head coach again last season, I don't expect them to play better then KC did. So yea, the "real" test will be in week 3 against the devil himself -
I just want to see them play that well against the Patriots-Jets NFN but what a difference a year can mean, to both the Bills & KC. That KC team that didn't look ready to play in all their pre season games much less their home opener. I gotta wonder if it was was wise choice for KC's HC Haley to hire new OC Jim Zorn. Because he was fired as HC in Washington, fired as QB coach in Baltimore. Charlie Weiss bolts back into the college ranks for the same type of job as OC which kinda doesn't make sense, unless he hated working for Haley? Anyway, a lot of fans here were saying the Bills could easily win 3 of their first 4...KC-Raiders-Bungals and then fall on their face the rest of the season because the schedule looks so difficult. All I know is the real test will come in week 3 against the Patriots, I'd have to say winning builds confidence and if the Bills can pull off a win against the devil himself...well then, I will bend a knee to this HC & GM! P.S. I just want to read what "paintmyhouse" has to say about Fitz, does he still suck?
-
What you fail to realize is...Chan Gailey was the Chiefs offensive coordinator that year they went 2-14 Like I pointed out he was probably the main reason why they stunk so badly, trying to run a college offense in the NFL. This begs the questions, will the "wildcat" offense work in the NFL and justify bringing in Brad Smith? Will Gailey build an offense that actually wins games or simply pads the QB's stats with meaningless garbage yards in losses when his teams get behind. Also like I pointed out, it remains to be seen if Gailey can build this Bills team into a playoff team, something Haley has already shown he can do. Don't get me wrong, I want to see the Bills make the playoffs under Gailey, I want Gaileys offense to be an effective game winning offense. I want the Bills to pound Haleys Chiefs.
-
Yea, and Dave Wannstache was hired this off season, and after last seasons disaster where the Bills proved to have the worst defense against the run in the history of the franchise. Plus it remains to be seen how effective the stache will be as asst HC and LB coach. Gailey should have fired his DC and replaced him with the stache to run the 4-3....MD at DE is lame. besides, every team wants to have the Steelers 3-4, but nobody but Pittsburgh has those Steeler LB's Do you know this statement for a fact (have a link) or is this pure speculation on your part? Haley fired Chan Gailey (so I know he has the power to fire) after Gailey tried to run the "pistol"offense during his time as OC in KC. Thigpin threw the ball around a lot that year in losing efforts while almost ignoring the running game and going 2-14 ( sound familiar?)...even tho the team had Larry Johnson and Jamaal Charles at RB. Anyway, like I stated above. Haley has already proved to be a playoff capable head coach and improved his team every year (2-14)08 (4-12)09 (10-6)2010. It remains to be seen if Gailey can build this Bills team into a playoff team like Haley did with the Chiefs.
-
What he does with the RB's at KC is to start Jones and that is to soften up the opposing defense with Jones and then let Johnson loose on them, it also might help motivate Johnson to play better, who knows. If you look around the league most teams now have 2 featured backs to share the load as one RB takes such a beating over a 16 game schedule. This is what I was hoping Gailey would have done with Lynch and Jackson, as its what Steve Fairchild did his first year as OC in Buffalo, remember both Jackson and Lynch each rushing for over 100 yards against the Dolphins. My vote goes to Haley for one reason, he has enough confidence in himself to hire experienced veteran NFL assistants in Charlie Weiss as OC, and Romeo Crennell as DC, 2 former NFL head coaches.(Instead of a bunch of inexperienced assistants and college coaches like Gaily did). The result of hiring those two for Haley was going from 4-12 to 10-6 last season and a Wildcard playoff spot. But, I suppose I'll hear crap from all the homers over my choice because they prefer a guy with good sound bites then one who took his team to the playoffs. Anyway, I'm still waiting to see Gailey get more wins then the fabulous Dick Jauron

Really makes you wonder if Bill Polian isn't already thinking about his next QB after Manning retires, and if the Colts want to tank this seaason The question prevails, is Andrew Luck that once in a decade QB like John Elway? If so then I can understand Buffalo not drafting for the O line again this year, I get it that Seattle wanted Travaris Jackson as their starting QB. I understand why the Redskins would even say John Beck is going to contend for the starters job.The Dolphins are sticking with Chad Henne.. the 49ers are sticking with Alex Smith. The Bengals will start Andrew Dalton, the Jags are starting Luke McCown I watched Luck play in a practice game, the kid looks like the real deal to be the #1 overall, which team will suck enough to get him?

Jerry Sullivan says: This Roster is a crumbling
thewildrabbit replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whats sad is that everyone seems so optimistic about this season...yet last years draft class seems like another failure along the same lines as the last 10 years.Did Tom Modrak have lots of input into that draft, and is that why he was finally canned? So a year wasted to determine who is good at their jobs. This years draft class already appears so much better then anything when Modrak was here. The one thing I just don't get is...the Bills can only draft 7 players a year and if outta those they find 3 starters out of 22, and every 4-5 years players can become free agents I just don't see how a team can be built with just draft picks like Nix wants. -
Gonna be interesting for certain, I just don't have as much faith in this line as most of you. Still no TE, only one proven RB, unproven starting WR in Jones. No more Evans to draw away coverages. I look at the Chicago, Bronco's and Lions games and see a bad offense. The only game the offense looked good in was the Jags game, and I look at the Jags and see a bad team that just cut their starting QB. no pass rush at all. That team signed Poz as an upgrade... At KC and T Hall who had 14.5 sacks last year. 14th overall D last year Home:Oakland had the #2 defense against the pass last year, 11th overall last year. new HC tho Home: NE with Wilfork & Haynsworth in the middle should test that line. NE ranked worse the Buffalo in overall D but had a +28 turnover ratio At The Bungals...the Bills could beat this team even when they had CP Home:Eagles..dream team with two top CB's..12th overall D last year AT NY Giants with 2 sacker's that had 11.5 sacks each, 7th overall D last year if the line can't get it done...it will be another PP season. 2-4 at the bye

Is This Team Improved or Not From Last Year?
thewildrabbit replied to box0life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The players aside I would hope that this years team will be better simply because all those college coaches and assistants who didn't have much NFL experience now have some NFL experience. Defense should be way better provided everyone stays healthy, one more year of experience for some playing in a 3-4. Plus the other teams castoffs pickups should be an upgrade to what the Bills started last year. The offense is going to be worse, much worse IMO. Loss of Evans, Loss of Hangman & no upgrade for the O line, no TE yet. Only one proven RB that could easily wear out under a full load. Sooo, with the improvement to the D and loss of some good vets I'm thinking 4-12 to 6-10 -
Is this Fitzpatricks last season here?
thewildrabbit replied to Original Byrd Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My take is Chan must be telling Nix he can get it done with the players he already has on offense, otherwise it really makes no sense to ignore the line like they have. I look at this team and see nothing but failure because of the lack of depth and talent on that line. As bad as that line is I doubt Fitz is as bad as Tavaris Jackson is for the Seahawks, or John Beck is for Washington. The Bills will win 4-6 games this year and won't get that #1 overall -
Some thoughts re preseason and cuts
thewildrabbit replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They kinda did the same thing this year with Poz and Whitner, and perhaps McKelvin or McGee, just drafting to replace players you are losing or going to release doesn't really build anything.
