Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
thewildrabbit replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone watch what the NY Jets can do with 3x all pro center Nick Mangold playing vs the way they played with him injured and a back up in the game. The QB can't get into a rhythm because he is getting hurried, harried and rushed all game long. Same thing with goes for the running game, the backs have a tough time just getting to the line of scrimmage much less past it. -
3-1 .... its about bouncing back
thewildrabbit replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
after 3 games, some teams are not as good as everyone thinks, and others not as bad as everyone thinks Minnesota & St Louis at 0-4. The Dolphins at SD today at 0-3 very well could join that 0-4 crew 3-1 not that bad -
Let's review the "vaunted" Bengals defense this season
thewildrabbit replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea well, tell that to the Buffalo Bills Didn't that same source cite the Bills as having the best O line in the NFL to date, guess that changed also... -
kinda disappointing that the Bills used so many draft picks to bolster the defense the last two years and they still stink

Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
thewildrabbit replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Now, still think that O line is the best in the league, or even above average? BTW, the two best players on that line are #1 & #2 draft picks, you figure it out -
This game might be close if the Bengals still had Carson Palmer at qb, they have a rookie, Bills outscore them the #3 offense vs the #3 defense

Dual Topic: Media Attention & Marv Levy
thewildrabbit replied to Uncle Monkeyhead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dunno exactly how Fred Jackson was introduced to Marv Levy, but I can tell you for a certainty that Marv is entirely the reason Fred Jackson is a Buffalo Bill. He was signed to the Bill practice squad in 2006 From Freddy himself: ""People like Coach Levy. He knew me from Coe College, from being alumni. He gave me a chance. There aren't a lot of people at Division III schools that know someone that can bring them to an NFL camp to get a chance like that."" http://bleacherrepor...and-his-answers For as long as I've been reading in this forum it seems almost weekly i see a post written about how Marv and Jauron screwed this franchise. There is no question that Jauron was a horrible choice as HC, and an even more horrible de facto GM after Marv left the Bills I do recall reading that Marv went to the owner and presented him with two candidates, ex- GB Packer HC Mike Sherman and Dick Jauron and the owner hired Jauron. I also recall Marv stating that in regards to the draft it would be by committee, that he and the scouts would have input but that Jauron would make the final decision. Anyway, as long as Tom Modrak had any input into the draft it was doomed before it even started. All Marv Levy did was comply to the owner of this franchise when he was asked to step in and help by being the GM. -
Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?

Its all relative... so early in the season.... nothing speaks volumes about anything just yet The Raiders might have a highly regarded D line but that defense is currently ranked 28th in the NFL,so they have given up a ton of yardage. They also allowed Mark Sanchez to throw for 369 yards. Plus the Jets have been without 3x all pro center Nick Mangold and it shows. I dunno where the NFL stats gets 10 sacks from, I counted 4 from Denver, and 4 from the Jets, 0 from Buffalo according to CBS Sportsline game tracker. Anyway, look at the Bengals ranked 4th overall in total defense, also according to the NFL the Bengals have 9 sacks so far. But who have they played aginst... San Francisco 32 total offense-Denver 27th in total offense-Cleveland 26th in total offense. So one could easily say that the Bengals have played some teams with bad offenses Theit 4th overall ranking should get a huge adjustment after they face the Buffalo Bills. Just like one could contend the Bills have yet to face a top defense- New England is LAST in the NFL at 32 (they allowed Chad Henne to throw for over 400+ yards) Oakland is 28th- KC is 23rd Its my contention that because Fitz gets that ball outta his hands and to the open receiver in 3 seconds or under on almost every play it negates most pass rushes, dare I say...almost Payton Manning esq. Fred Jackson is also greatly helping negate that pass rush because he has been so explosive that they can't key on Fitz. To anyone that doesn't buy into the fact that its mostly Fitz, simply look at last years game without him. That same line that was playing so well with Fitz played horrifically with Brian Brohm behind center. Like I've stated so many times now, it really is way to early in the season to crown any team as the best in the league at anything as so much football has yet to be played. -
Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?

As I've stated many times, The current line has yet to face a top defense or even a bad one with a top pass rush. I watched these same basic guys get manhandled by the Jets-Vikings-Patriots in the latter part of last season. So I'm not entirely convinced they are the best at what they do just yet, and Ive stated such in other posts in this thread. Now granted this coaching staff has already greatly exceeded my expectations in regards to player discipline, few penalties, few dropped passes and well executed offensive plays, along with some good run blocking and pass blocking. But are they playing up to the level of a team like Green Bay or New Orleans? No, not yet, so I'd have say they are not the best O line in the league. Just by watching what this coaching staff has been able to do with TE Scott Chandler has shown me they are far better then I gave them credit for being. So who knows, perhaps this staff can further develop this O line into the best in the NFL. The team should get better the longer they play together with continuity. Like I stated earlier the Bills face much tougher teams ahead with better defenses. So why not just wait another few weeks and ask this question again. BTW, Kent Hull played 3 years in the USFL and was named to the USFL and Sporting News all league teams. He was on the New Jersey Generals and opened holes for Hershel Walker and Maurice Carthon. Bill Polian knew what he was getting when he signed Hull so it wasn't like he was an unknown scrub walk on free agent or a cast off waiver wire reject from another team. You also forgot to mention 2 other players that anchored that great Bills line of the late 80's and early 90's -LG Jim Richter a 1st round pick by Chuck Knox in 1980 & LT Will Wolford another 1st round pick in 1986. All 3 of those Bills players had careers in the NFL for more then 10 years. (Richter 16 years in the NFL) (Kent Hull 11 years in the NFL & 3 years in the USFL) (Wilford 13 years in the NFL) -
Hey, we the fans can't control it..so why worry about it Enjoy it while it lasts, and revel in it... feel good for this week that the Buffalo Bills are one of 3 teams sitting at 3-0, Detroit- Green Bay are the other 2 Bask the fact that Brady threw 4 picks... be happy the Bills have found an "elite" QB and RB ! It was #99 knocked that ball outta the air for the last INT....with his head!, MD the Doctor is in!.... the Bills now have 2 great DT's Do I think the Bills will stay undefeated for very long... naa, so I'll enjoy it while I can. They have already surpassed where I thought they would be:P

Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
thewildrabbit replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its sure as heck isn't by design, that O line sucked moose dangle with Edwards and Brohm behind center. That is pure Ryan Fitzscreamy getting rid of the ball to the open receiver in 3 seconds or under, pure Fitz! I pointed out many times last year that it only took 3.5 seconds for Fitz to hit Stevie Johnson in the end zone against the Steelers on that deep pass, you know the TD pass he dropped .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGJWBWcFD_4 watch it and count. Fred Jackson is entirely the reason why the running game looks so darn good, he usually breaks the first few tackles, never lets himself be arm tackled and should be a pro bowler this season, along with Fitz! Both those players I'd put in the "elite" category, and lord help the Bills if either get a serious injury. The Bills O line improved quite a bit just by moving Wood to center, but still some of those players on the bills line wouldn't even make some other teams rosters, don't believe me? Then where did some of them come from. I'm not dissing them, just saying its the QB and RB that are making that line look much better then it really is. -
Good luck and have fun, hope its a enjoyable game

Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
thewildrabbit replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea, tell that to jauron and his 3-0 2008 team Its a long season and anything can happen, I think we should ask the question about the O line at week 8, as 1/2 way thru the season should be a better indicator how how the team will fare the rest of the way. Let's just hope we get to see Chan Gaileys version of the "greatest show on snow" -
Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
thewildrabbit replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Granted the line played great the first three games, no drive killing penalties like with Jauron's teams, only allowed one sack.....but best in the league...time will tell. Have the Bills played a top defense yet, or even a bad one with a good pass rush? Patriots-last in the NFL at 32...even Chad Henne and the 0-3 Dolphins put up 400+ passing yards on them Raiders-27th...allowed Mark Sanchez to throw for 369 yards Chiefs-22nd with 27 points for and 107 against, At 0-3 the worst team in the league. along with Miami-Minnesota-St Louis. NFN, but howabout waiting a few weeks to ask this question again as it looks like a much tougher road ahead. Cincy is currently #3 in the NFL in total defense. The Eagles and NY Giants don't have great defenses but they are both in the top 15. The Redskins with Orakpo-The Cowboys with Ware- Titans #1 defense right now. Lets hope the "dumpster divers" can keep playing great On a side note, with Miami sucking at 0-3 the Jets and Patriots not playing great defense this year just could leave that AFC East door open -
Its my take that Nix didn't really know or understand who were the best talent evaluators on the team besides himself. I mean c'mon the man can't scout every single player out there, he had to trust some others.I think what Nix finally realized is what most diehard fans have known for quite a few years. That Tom Modrak has been killing this team with his evaluations for the last decade, hence the reason he was finally fired. So I look at his first year as GM a wash because of Modrak still being the head of the scouting dept. Now look at what happened since Nix figured out that he needed to be more involved in the evaluation process, The single acquisition of TE Scott Chandler was a huge upgrade to the offense. I can't state enough how much this single acquisition by the Bills helped their offense, in and out of the red zone. Plus letting go of Lee Evans and the Poz has worked out very well so far. It really remains to be seen how Nix's drafts work out, but I can tell you that his influence on the players brought in for the O line, offense, defense have really upgraded this team. Plus they are doing it and winning with some not so great players. His best move so far, firing Modrak. His best player acquisition so far, Scott Chandler, the Bills finally have a decent huge red zone target. 4 TD's in 3 games so far, all this coming from a kid who had ZERO TD's and ONE catch in his first 4 years I'm a Nix fan now

What's the Difference between 2008 and 2011?
thewildrabbit replied to Sniper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You forgot to mention the Bills found a freaking huge red zone target in Scott Chandler for Fitz, which has helped immensely in my view. Chan Gailey is not noted for utilizing the TE very much in his offense, and last season the Bills were LAST in the NFL for TE receptions. But now Fitz has that option that Edwards-Losman-Bledsoe and all the rest back to JK never had. All this coming from a guy who had ZERO career TD's and ONE catch in four years to 4 TD's in 3 games for Buffalo. Its not that he is going to wow anyone with receptions or yards, but the fact that Fitz now has a huge target in the endzone and outside the redzone helps the team in so many ways. I just can't state enough how much this one player at this one position has helped this offense.... ABOUT FREAKING TIME Shifting gearz, ts not entirely Edwards fault he was drafted by morons, put into a crap system and had a freaking dufas calling plays and setting up the game plans. Its not to say that Fitz hasn't played for a bunch of offensive fools like Edwards did, but being the starter Edwards took so many more hits to the head which ruined his career in the NFL. Its kinda why I'm very concerned about Fitz and his future in Buffalo! That O line is still very questionable in my mind and we have yet to see them play a team like the Vikings had last year, like the Jets played them last year, in both games Time is the biggest test of any QB, and can Fitz maintain over the long haul of a 16 game season? He has missed games the last two years because of injuries and he wasn't even the starter either year. Fitz is certainly lighting it up, what bothers me tho is what the Bills will do if Fitz or Freddy get knocked out of a game, or games! Thigpin-Spiller..c'mon Anyway, perhaps my concerns about the O line and the waiver wire players Nix picked up are overblown, looking at the way Scott Chandler is performing and playing. Just maybe these coaches can make a silk purse outta a cows ear....time will tell. -
He played at a pretty high level during last Season also, Steelers-Ravens-Bengals 49-31 ring any bells? It was the rest of the team that stunk and was playing poorly Someone mentioned a prefect storm earlier, well looking at this team so far. They are highest scoring team in the NFL so far, plus they are utilizing Fred Jackson quite a bit even tho he didn't break 100 yards against NE. The "TEAM" is playing like a team, no mental mistakes or breakdowns in penalties that kill drives, no dropped passes, no fumbles. Perfect execution on almost all offensive plays. The Bills are playing hard nosed, inspired, tough, disciplined football right now.... Its a beautiful thing to behold . I didn't think Gailey and his coaching staff had it in them to be this good. Another thing to be aware of is the 1/2 time adjustments the last two games, freaking unbelievable. Fitz has had 4 picks, but I suppose that it what you get with a 'gunslinger" vs someone who is afraid to throw into tight windows....I'll take the "gunslinger" every time. Charley Casserly (ex-GM of the Redskins-Texans) on the NFL today show last Sunday openly stated he thinks Fitz is better then Kevin Kolb, who just signed an 11 million , 20 mil guaranteed contract with Arizona

Jets season on the brink
thewildrabbit replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously, that Raider offensive run game is brutal for any team to face. Their defense is pretty good also. although the Jets defense allowed 34 points but it was mostly due to that Raiders running attack.. Kinda why I wanted to see Buffalo build a line like the Raiders have It is always much tougher for a team to travel from one coast to the other to play games as its messes the timing for everything Sanchez did put up 369 yards passing on them Now the Jets play the Ravens this week, whoa good game! -

yea 3 games, the Bungals played against teams with bad offense's SF last in the NFL at 32nd- new HC Denver at 27th- new HC Cleveland at 26th-new HC Buffalo is currently 3rd in the NFL on offense and leads the NFL in scoring... who would have thunk it Still, this Buffalo team has yet to face a top defense , NE is last in the NFL in defense and allowed Chad Henne to throw for 400+ yards. Lets hope Chan can motivate his troops for this trap game -
What's the Difference between 2008 and 2011?
thewildrabbit replied to Sniper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like I said, the Bills really haven't played a top defense yet, one with a good pass rush, but they just might very soon. The Bungals are currently ranked at #3 overall, but I suspect after this week that will change drastically The thing is, this could easily be a trap game for Buffalo if they let down against a rookie QB and don't get charged up to play this 1-2 team. The NY Giants and Eagles both have players with 4 sacks so far, and the Eagle have 3 great DB's. Their problem is an ex- O line coach that is now the DC, and is he screwing things up with Nnamdi by playing cover 2 instead of the man coverage he is used to playing. If the team figures that out by next week it could mean a tougher time for the Bills offense. Plus upcoming games against teams with a good rush, Dallas-Redskins and plus the Titans and Chargers both have top ten defenses. Buffalo will face tougher defenses for certain. NFN, but you don't wave a magic wand and players suddenly become great, this line has flaws and they will be exposed once they play a top opponent. Hey,I could be wrong and they could have developed a great continuity and overachieve. But It still remains to be seen how they perform against a top defense -

What's the Difference between 2008 and 2011?
thewildrabbit replied to Sniper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apology accepted yea, i was purely talking about how concerned I am that FINALLY the Bills have a QB that is playing at an "elite" level like Jim Kelly used to, and they don't have anywhere near the quality of players on that O line like ole JK had. Fitz didn't even play a full season in the 09 (10 games,8 starts) and 2010 (13 games -13 starts) seasons and yet suffered injuries both years that kept him outta one game each year. What happened to Edwards is when he suffered a concussion it was Jauron's stupidity and desire to keep winning that kept playing him when he should have been benched. When they did finally bench him TE he was a shell of his old self, battered and shell shocked. He suffered at least 4 concussions that were reported, who really knows how many he did suffer. Once you suffer a concussion it becomes easier to suffer another and the problems that incur with a traumatic brain injury just keep compounding the more you get them. As for the bet, the very last thing I would want to do is bet that Fitz will get an injury and or become like Edwards. Considering that line has some "maybes" and "who knows" players playing on it right now, I highly doubt they get 10 wins. But hey, we can only hope they do! The schedule does get tougher after Cincy -

Chad Henne threw for 416 yards and 2 TDs against the Patriots But yea, Fitz has been amazing. That first game against the Chiefs he only threw for 208 yards, yet had 4 TD's...remarkable
