A Few Thoughts About The Game
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Remember the line, ""You can't design a defense to stop me"" yea right, tell that to George Wilson and Nick Barnett http://www.yardbarke...stop_me/6522208 But yea,i agree Bill. I applaud what Gailey has done with the play calling, schemes, technique and mostly this offense doesn't look like it went 4-12 last season, they look like they have been doing this forever, very few mistakes and mental blunders like we saw at the end of the game in the Eagles. This team is tough, both mentally and physically and for the most part they don't look like a young team filled a lot of new players. I gotta mention George Wilson, he was everywhere. I am still concerned about the Bills inability to run to control the clock when needed, or running out of a short yardage situation. Both the Bengals and Eagles seemed to dominate the LoS in the 4th QTR when the Bills needed to make first downs. I don't see the Bills getting 5+ turnovers every game -
Least sacked QB in the NFL
thewildrabbit replied to XXL Franchize's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
here here, its a combination of Fitz and his very fast release and the fact that the line isn't screwing themselves with crucial mistakes. Great play by all. What bothers me tho is when Fitz does need more then 3 seconds he usually doesn't have it, and when Fred Jackson needs to make yards to control the clock in the short yardage formation he doesn't get it. In both the Cincy game and 4th QTR against the EAgles. Bottom line, the bills won't get 5+ turnovers every game and they need to do better when the quick short passes aren't open, and when they go to a close formation Yea, I think you mean Cornell Green at RT tho... one of the drunken fans could have done better by stumbling into the opposing defender and done better then Green did last year He was one of the reasons the team went 0-8 -
wow MD robbed of a sack
-
FJ for the PB!
-
jeez Fitz...
-
always nice to hear an announcer state that the reason why Fitz doesn't get sacked or even touched is because he gets the ball out so quickly...yea!
-
man, Wilson a monster in this game
-
awesome...George Wilson is everywhere!
-
Now the Eagles want to establish the run like Buffalo did....too late
-
It all depends on which Bills team shows up... The one that ran the ball with authority the first 3 games, and Fitz throwing with pin point accuracy to all his wideouts and the tight end! Or, the one we saw in Cincy where the Bills forget the running game and just ask Fitz to throw throw throw even when he is having a bad day.,,,while not utilizing Brad Smith at RB- QB at all, even tho the guy has yet to fail to make a first down. The Eagles have the second best rushing attack in the NFL, sok tho because the Bills already beat the team with the best rushing attack in the Raiders! The Eagles can be had by running the ball up the middle, lets hope Buffalo can establish a run game and work it

Joe B WGR: Did Trent turn down the Dolphins?
thewildrabbit replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea, David Garrard stated the very same thing. Are the Dolphins are trying to cheap their way into the Andrew Luck sweepstakes on purpose? Face it, they haven't had a decent QB since Danny boy, and the thinking before the season was Henne wasn't the answer! So let the crappy head coach stay and tank the season, then fire the bozo after the season. Meanwhile hire Jon Gruden who they seem to covet and give him Luck to tutor -
JJ is trying, but there will never be another Al Davis! R.I.P Mr Davis
-
I agree At WR? Jeez, why not at RB rather then receiver. Use Spiller more as a receiver and let him take Parrish's spot in the slot. You would think that with a 4 million dollar player they would at least try and get their moneys worth and get him the ball more often Anyway, seems like the Bills left an awful lot of offense on the field and just kept trying to throw throw throw
-
Interesting article about how little Brad Smith is being utilized, same with CJ Spiller at 17 offensive touches in 4 games. "The Bills tried to get Smith more involved as a wideout last week to modest results. He has converted four first downs in seven runs this year, but the team hasn't used him much in the Wildcat." http://profootballta...yet-in-buffalo/ So the Buffalo Bills (3-0) lose a game to the Cincinnati Bengals (1-2) while only scoring 13 points on offense. A TD run by Fred Jackson and 2 FG's by Lindell Fitzscreamy 20-34 for 199 yards 0 TD's 0 Ints & Fred Jackson 17 attempts for 66 yards, 1 TD and 21 yards the longest run. which means Jackson had 16 rushes for only 2.8 YPC avg. Some glaring stats from that game-4 of 14 3rd down conversions- 273 total yards to 458 yards. against a rookie QB who had 287 yards passing. Bills 5.4 yards per pass. Bills avg per rush 4.0-Bengals 5.3. The Bills won the turnover differential but lost in time of possion. The Bengals did a pretty good job of shutting down both Fitz and Freddy, and it kinda made me wonder why the Bills didn't try something other then Fitz in the shotgun, spread formation with an empty backfield for most of the game. Fitz was only sacked once in this game but it sure looked like he wasn't setting up properly, and he was hurrying his passes. He was pretty wild on some of his throws in the first half. So my question is...why not let Brad Smith have more touches when the starting players aren't doing so well? Seriously, this game looked like Turk Schonert was back calling the plays and was determined to keep throwing the ball even when the QB wasn't playing very effectively...eerily similar to two years ago with the bads at QB. Gailey came out with the game plan of throw- throw- throw -punt against a good defense. The man is clearly very creative in the passing game, but what to do when the passing game isn't working every well...just keep throwing it? Then with 2 min to go after getting an INT from the rookie QB the Bills finally decide to run Fred Jackson and the Bills get a score out of it. 17-3 at the half, clearly the 2 turnovers by the Bengals the difference in the game The Bengals open the 2nd half by running the ball to take pressure off the QB by running the ball more. The Bills followed suite by also running the ball more, the difference here was the Bengals were very sure tacklers and only allowed a FG in the 4th QTR on that long Bills drive. 4 min to go in the game and the score tied 20-20.... Its times like this that make me want the Bills have an offense that can pound the ball and run the clock, rather then throw throw throw. 3rd and short does the Bills short yardage team put any fear into opposing defenses,no! Mostly because the Bills utilize the same offensive players most of the game to minimize substitutions. I look back at this game and think that there will be other games where the QB is not playing up to his past ability, and the RB is not playing up to his past ability. Whether its they have the flu, or are slightly injured, or the opposing defense is simply keying on them and shutting them down.. Did Chan Gailey keep playing Fitz and keep calling shotgun passing plays in hopes that he regains his rhythm or accuracy...I dunno. All I do know is Its good to have a back up plan. I know its hindsight now to talk about this, but other teams have more then one main RB, they usually now have 2-3 and go with the RB with the hot hand. More of a balanced offensive game plan by running the ball more often and utilizing more then just one RB. I watched that Raiders- Patriots game and the Patriots went to more of a running attack to help take pressure off QB Tom Brady (like he needs it) and it worked as the Patriots beat Oakland 31-19 Anyway, Jackson got 17 carries, 5 catches =22 touches. Spiller 3 carries, 1 catch.= 4 touches, Smith 2 catches, no carries 2 touches Bills Play by play...punt-punt-punt -FG- defensive TD- FJ TD---2nd half - Punt- 9 min drive for a FG- Punt All this stuff might have already been hashed over, sorry if I missed it . I know its only one loss, but it could turn into more losses if the Bills don't find a way to run the ball more when the QB isn't playing so great. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents before Sunday

Who do u want as ur D Coordinator?
thewildrabbit replied to XrazyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whats crazy is some teams have intentionally screwed themselves. The Eagles come to mind first as the HC decided to make the O line coach the new DC in Philly, so they have Nnamdi Asomugha is playing cover 2 instead of man against the opposing best WR like he did in Oakland, which is what made him so great. The Patriots have been playing man in a lot of their schemes with all those young DB's, when they should be playing cover 2. The Packers let Cullen Jenkins leave in free agency and that line just hasn't been able to keep contain like it did with him. The result is teams are able to double and triple Clay Matthews so he only has one sack this year The Steelers used to be one of the best teams in the NFL at stopping the run until they gave their LB's more money, now they all look old and slow against the run. Miami was supposed to have a good defense this year, is Mike Nolan tanking it to get the interim gig? Anyway, the two teams that that look good on defense and I didn't think would be that good are Washington and Tennessee . Still kind of disappointing that Shawne Merrimen looked so dominate in preseason and looks so ordinary once the season starts, still no pass rush. I think what bothers me the most is the Bills still can't stop the run, with MD and KW they should be playing a 4-3 and forget the 3-4 experiment -

The Bills still can't stop the run or rush the passer, I'm for anyone who can fix the current situation -
Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
thewildrabbit replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good post, good points. I've posted several times over the last few years that building a good O line goes hand and hand with winning and finding a good QB, how will you ever know if you have a top QB if he is constantly running for his life trying to avoid getting sacked or constantly getting beaten down and concussed. This past decade the Bills have had 10+ QB's and 43+ O linemen. If you go back and look at the Kelly era there were 3 players that were mainstays almost the entire time Jim Kelly was there, G Richter-C Hull- LT Wilford. All three of those men played in the NFL for 10 years or longer and made the pro bowl at one time or another. G Jim Richter was drafted by Chuck Knox in 1980 and played for both Knox and Marv levy. Its kinda the reason why I equate quality & longevity to equaling a good O line. As with the Tom Brady analogy the Bills don't need 5 first round picks on that line, but they surely do need more quality players, rather then waiver wire cast offs from other teams. They found Jason Peters as a free agent walk on tight end and converted him into an all pro LT, nothing wrong with that in my view. Bringing in new players and developing them properly is usually the way to go. Buddy Nix must think the line needed to be upgraded also or he wouldn't have made a bid for Tyson Clabo in free agency. In attempting to sign Clabo Nix was going against what he has stated he doesn't like to do, and that is build thru free agency All I have to say to those that still think the Bills are fielding one of the best O lines in the NFL is...wait! Simply wait until Fred Jackson or Ryan Fitzpatrick aren't playing for whatever reason and then watch how the backup QB-RB plays behind that so called "best" O line. Watch what happens when the QB needs more then 3 seconds to find the receiver or there is no hole and the RB needs to break tackles to make that first defender miss and make his yards. It has been my contention throughout this thread that both Fred Jackson and Fitz make that current line look so much better then it actually is. While some agree that both Jackson and Fitz are playing like top players at their positions... they seem convinced it is because the line is allowing them to do so! While I'm still convinced that line has several weak positions that still need to be upgraded. These positions have already been somewhat exposed, and as the season goes on we will see them exposed more and more as the Bills play tougher defenses. They already played poorly against Cincinnati, I think they will get worse before they get better. Anyway, Let's hope Chris Hairston can hold his own against the Eagles and plays well. He is going up against some Eagle backups that are coming off injuries so he is catching a break. Should Hairston not play well I won't criticize him, after all he is a rookie and needs time to develop properly, I'll be pulling for him to play well. -
It's Time For Brad Smith
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lets hope the Bills bounce back like the Patriots did against the Raiders. They realized that although Tom Brady is a great QB, he isn't the team, nobody in the NFL is the team by themselves. So they ran the ball more against the Raiders which effectively took pressure off Brady and allowed them to run a much more balanced attack. When the QB isn't playing great you stop trying to force him to win the game, and start running the ball more. Same thing with the Jets against the Ravens, they needed to stop trying to force Sanchez to win the game, go back to the roots of what made them a top team the last 2 years, and that is running the ball. I can't fault Chan Gailey for not trying to run the ball more when the QB isn't playing great as Bill Belichick and Rex Ryan just did the exact same thing. BUT! Like Bill from NYC states, I hope Chan runs the WC more, uses the option play, lines up Smith-Spiller as a WR and uses him on an end around. The Bills have 3 dynamic runners in Jackson-Smith- Spiller, man stop with the shotgun plays and utilize the freaking RB's! The running plays the Bills can utilize with the RB's they have are almost endless. The Eagle defense is pretty much in disarray right now because the HC decided to make the O line coach the DC ( and we think the Bills have probs with Edwards , who is an actual defensive mined coach) that defense can be had, but not by lining up in constant shotgun formations and daring the Eagle to stop the pass ala Turk Schonert. ....I thought the Bills got rid of that guy -
Blaming the Defense and Defensive Playcalling
thewildrabbit replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea, and to boot whats really disappointing is the Bills used a lot of draft picks on defense and only one guy is making an impact. It does suck to see the defense still so bad after 2 years of Nixly -
Is Tony Sparano about to get whacked?
thewildrabbit replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dunno, they stuck with Cam Cameron the entire season If they do fire the HC then the GM needs to get the boot also...as the Dolphins are a pretty bad team right now, I have to question what the GM was thinking getting rid of Williams and Brown to draft Thomas and sign Reggie Bush at the main every down RB. then the defensive moves are just as suspect. Jeff Ireland doesn't look very bright without ole Bill pulling the strings Sooo. if they fire him during the season Mike Nolan gets the interim gig, or after the season and they hire Jon Gruden- Bill Cowher or another big name -
Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
thewildrabbit replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea well,"the best" was the premise of this entire thread, and up till now you have been staunchly defending the Bills O line as the best. So then you only wanted to know who is better, and I gave you several who are better just off the top of my head. Like I stated, the Bills playing well against 3 mediocre to bad defenses doesn't make any team the best at anything! The smiley face was to reinforce the FACT that the Bills 2 best linemen are not the scrubs picked up off the waiver wire, but were in fact drafted with #1 & #2 picks, and simply to say that the current Bills line is NOT devoid of top draft picks. So the SB winning Packers at 4-0 don't have a better O line then the Buffalo Bills? Why, because Aaron Rodgers holds on to the ball sometimes while running around waiting for his receiver to break open, and therefore takes more sacks and pressures. But then I suppose that's exactly what makes him so great. Both him and Big Ben. What the Patriots managed to do against that supposed top Raider defense is because that Bills O line ruined them for the season? The Patriots, one sack allowed, almost 200 yards rushing, 200+ yards passing and a 31 to 19 win that really wasn't even that close. Simply because the Raiders looked like a top defense after their first two games only means they faced 2 bad teams. The Patriots went back to a balanced attack this week and took some of the pressure off Brady by running the ball more, clearly something they should have done against Buffalo. I have no doubt that Belichick won't make that same mistake twice. I could post the stats of how well Fred Jackson does after first contact, and how many tackles are missed on him, and how many yards he makes by breaking tackles. But I think it would be lost on anyone who thinks the Bills have the 5th most rushing yards mainly because of the O line. Let me just say, 13 missed tackles on 47 rushes- 4.1 yards after contact per attempt is the best in the NFL after week 3. The fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick usually gets the ball out to the open receiver in 3 seconds or under doesn't negate most of the pass rush on him? Oh I forgot, Its entirely because that line is so good and has only allowed 3 sacks this year that makes Jackson and Fitz only mediocre players and that any RB-QB would have the same stats behind that Bills line. Oh BTW, add Tennessee to the teams that have a better O line -
Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
thewildrabbit replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Raiders- Packers-Lions-Patriots all come to mind without researching it... but perhaps even the Bengals considering Fred Jackson had 17 rushes for only 66 yards while Cedric Benson 19 rushes for 104 yards & total net yards 458 to 273. I'm pretty certain there are others and as the season goes forward I think we will see more and more. An O line doesn't become "the best" because they play well against a few mediocre teams. Currently the two best players on the Buffalo Bills O line are a #1 & #2 draft pick....wonder why that is -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the biggest problem in my view, games are won and lost in the trenches. It really is too bad that another regime is going to go down with everyone thinking its the QB, its the RB, its the receivers... -
Fitz's Inaccuracy A Problem Going Forward?
thewildrabbit replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Charley Casserly stated he thinks Fitz is better then Kevin Kolb who just signed an 11 mill a year, 20 mill guaranteed contract in Arizona. Anyway, the Bills encountered the #3 defense in the NFL and it showed. The Bills offense only scored 13 points this game and their inability to make a big play or even run the ball when needed is the real reason they lost this game. Plus, the Bills went mostly defense in the last two drafts. Why is it they still can't stop the run? Tom Brady threw 4 picks in Buffalo last week, did all the Pats fans suddenly declare Brady inaccurate?
