An insurmountable lack of leadership
thewildrabbit replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, Nix found some scrubs off the waiver wire last season to fill in and become starters He found a TE, an OT, a WR. now he needs to work his magic again and find a pass rusher who can stay healthy (LB-DE) another OT, a center -
Buddy Nix should have hired...
thewildrabbit replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nix made the right choice in Gailey to improve the offense, Gailey just made the wrong choice in his DC and Nix made the wrong in his draft picks, save MD -
Yea, it gets me that fitz can't rush the passer either, what a bum

Yea, in that situation a smart coach runs more, moves the chains, makes first down after first down until the defense changes outta the prevent...then you throw! Running the ball keeps it outta your QB's hands, who is getting rushed every play as the defense is neglecting the run. It also keeps the opposing QB on the sidelines NFN, but i would expect that type of play calling from Turk Schonert or AVP, and not megamind. Gailey screwed his own team! -

Then considering Fred Jackson was getting 8.7 YPC, 114 yards on only 13 carries and Gailey kept calling passing plays... -
So where are the Fitz lovers now?

If you solely want to blame the QB for the loss, then your in the low IQ category along with the other tools. Like I stated its a team game, the team lost this game and not one singular player. Also like I stated, if I'm going to point fingers at anyone for this loss, its the HC who didn't run the ball more when his RB was getting 8.7 YPC. Teams have figured out how to shut down the QB by shutting down the short passing game, (which btw was the only effective way the Bills could move the ball passing it) so the HC decides to just keep throwing it? Chan Gailey takes full blame for this loss, not the defense, not the QB! -

Dude cmon, your RB is getting 8.7 YPC and you still throw it? All the bills needed to do was run the ball more, move the chains, make first downs and keep the ball out of Romo- Fitz hands. Could have been a completely different game. BTW, I didn't say they were blitzing. I stated they were pinning their ears back and coming after the QB, and they were. That is the reason for Jackson's unreal YPC avg. The HC-OC were foolish for not taking advantage it -
Horsehockey... I've been a very harsh critic of both Gailey and Nix since they have been hired. If those two have any flaws its the fact that they counted on Shawne Merriman to be their pass rusher and waiver wire scrub O linemen to get the job done. Nix and Gailey gambled on Merriman and some linemen and it didn't pay off. Well, the sad fact is Merriman went on IR again, but then so did the only defensive pro bowler in Kyle Williams. Funny thing is about those waiver wire O line scrubs, they seem to be holding down the fort while the perennially always injured LT keeps missing games. So the Bills STILL need a pass rusher and an OT or two. On the positive side Gailey has gotten this young team of nobody's to believe in themselves and overachieve, kinda like Chuck Knox did back in the day. This team isn't usually penalty ridden mess, they usually play tough hard nosed disciplined football with very few mistakes. Look at the players who got this team to 5-4 this year...a back up RB who is playing brilliantly, a back up QB nobody else wanted, no name receivers, a tight end nobody wanted. The defense actually has the ability to get pressure on the QB if kelsay ever plays again

So what generally happens when the opposing team gets a 21 point lead early in the game? (the Colts thrived on this thru Manning's entire career) The defense pins their proverbial ears back and comes after the QB, and as usual when the team is trying to play catch up the OC-HC just resort to throw, throw, throw! Doesn't it bother anyone else that Fred Jackson got 114 yards on only 13 carries...8.76 YPC and Gailey keeps throwing against a team that is coming after the QB every play!!! Sorry guys, but Gailey was a doo doo head least week, and he duplicated it again this week -

The homers will just blame it on all the injuries... never mind the fact that Bell is always injured. The sad fact is that the line has never allowed Fitz the protection like Tom Brady has. I still think this team will go another draft without obtaining a top tackle as they still need a pass rusher, and that will likely cause the demise of this regime. -

The Bills are a one trick pony in the passing game and teams have figured out how to shut down Fitz as he has no time to throw mid to deep passes. That O line just keeps getting worse as they suffer more injuries, Wood out now for Miami and perhaps more games. -

A Few Thoughts About The Game
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree, Romo is average on a decent team with a decent O line. The difference in the teams is the Boys rebuilt that line to give Romo more time, plus the fact that the Bills have no pass rush. The Cowboys however have a decent pass rush and didn't give Fitz time to throw very often. Fitz is better then Romo at getting the ball out quicker and finding that open receiver in under 3 seconds, the problem arises when Fitz needs more then 3 seconds to complete a pass and the line simply can't give it to him. Levitre is a good LG, and a below average LT when he faces DeMarcus Ware. Now Wood is going to miss the Dolphins game and perhaps more games -
fred jackson 31 carries in the last two game
thewildrabbit replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Fitz is below average, and either do the Bills FO who just gave him a big payday. The problem is his surrounding cast of players on that line who can't stay healthy, wth good is an average LT if he is injured more often then not. The Bills do one thing well in the passing game, quick short passes. Once defenses figure out that if they bump the receivers on the line, then that goes out the window, whats left? Fitz trying to complete mid range to deep passes when he has no time to throw. -

thewildrabbit replied to DreReed83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All the low IQ fans are always going to blame the QB for any loss, but its a team game and the team allowed those 44 points, not the QB Fans just don't get that this FO has basically ignored the O line in the last 2 years of drafts, and tried in vain to build a decent defense. Hows that Spiller pick looking now? WTH, any freaking O linemen that the 49ers drafted that same year would be an improvement over a RB that can't catch, can't block, can't find a freaking hole NFN, but what did you think would happen when an offense only does one thing well in the passing game. Those short quick out passes are going to get disrupted by teams with good defenses, that crappy O line doesn't allow the QB more then 3 seconds to throw so the QB has no chance to throw 5-7 step drop back, deep passes. I shudder to think what any other QB would look like behind that line. -
Bills are Improved But Not Contenders
thewildrabbit replied to vorpma's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I look at what most fans were saying about this years team and then considering the talent on the current team that they would be happy with a winning record at 8-8. They came out and did very well at the start of the year so everyone's expectations went sky high. The reality is the Bills were a mediocre team under Jauron, with some good but not great players....one pro bowler! The current Bills are still a mediocre team because this new regime wanted to configure the team the way they wanted for a 3-4 defense and didn't have, and still don't have all the pieces to make it work like the Steelers or Packers. So yea, be happy to know that this team is still rebuilding and improving. Levy and Polian didn't get it done in one year either. What kinda worries me is the only really good draft pick the bills have found over the last two drafts fell into their lap -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Welp Cincy did the same thing in shutting down Freddy and Fitz, Gailey didn't adjust. It almost looked like Turk Schonert calling plays against the Jets & Bengals. I mean those short passes and running Freddy worked in past games,so the thought process was lets keep trying over and over... you would think after 4, 3 downs and punt that Gailey would try something different. An example would be the Bills went "no huddle" on that last series that they scored a TD on. The Jets pursue as good as any team out there, more screens, fake screens. Get Spiller-Smith more involved in the running game if they are successfully keying on Freddy and shutting him down like both the Jets and Cincy did. I gotta wonder if Gailey has completely given up on Spiller as a RB? Although he might not be as elusive or able to break tackles like FJ, if the guy gets an open hole and a clear field...nobody is going to catch him! -

Sorry, don't buy it....The "smoke and mirror" Gailey show doesn't work against solid defenses, Cincy, the Giants and Jets all proved that. Jets deferred. The first series 3 downs and PUNT The second series 2 downs, false start, 1st down pass, 3 downs and PUNT The third series 3 downs and PUNT The fourth series 3 downs, encroachment, INT The Fifth series 7 plays (mostly shotgun) incomplete pass to end the Bills 1st half. No offense, but borderline brilliant 1st half ? Literally, no offense The sixth series ( 2nd half) 3 downs and PUNT The seventh series FJ Fumble The 8th series 8 plays FG, Bills 3 pts The ninth series 8 plays, 4th and one, no gain! turnover on downs the Tenth series 13 plays running the no huddle-TD Bills + 2 point conversion on side kick, penalty on Spiller...Jets ball The Buffalo defense kept the Bills in this game for 3 QTRs, the offense sunk up the field for those 3 QTRs I'd say scatter brain was a good summation BTW, time of possession 37:52 jets 22:08 Bills

Was Chan Out Coached Or......
thewildrabbit replied to NastyMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills started the season with many posters talking about their concerns with the offensive line, questionable starters and very thin depth wise. Well, the Bills have their LG playing LT because the two starting tackles are out with injuries, not exactly the best situation to face one of the top division rivals. The defense was without their only pro bowler in Kyle Williams and their only decent pass rusher in Chris Kelsay, not to mention Merriman on IR again. Not making excuses here, but even with everyone healthy that is a tough game to win. Still look what the bye week did for Buffalo against Washington, it did for the Jets what it did for Buffalo. However, Gailey needs to find other options the just Fred Jackson if they are keying on him, and stopping the quick short passes by Fitz. Gailey drafted Spiller and boldly stated he will make the line block better, I'd just like to see the guy more involved in the running game when Fred is being shut down. The Bills are paying Brad Smith 4 mill a year to return kicks? Jeez, utilize the guy more with screens, end around's, reverses etc. I just don't get why Spiller and Smith go invisible in games like this. -
Jets were openly mocking the Bills
thewildrabbit replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is true that the Bills are a finesse team, even Phil Simms called them a a smoke and mirrors team. the thing is... Fitz played against very physical teams when he was with Cincy, he learned how to beat the Ravens- Steelers. The Jets are no different or better then those two teams defensively, he will learn. On another note it makes me wonder why Chan Gailey didn't make Brad Smith a captain for this game and run him right up Rex Ryan's keaster. Ryan made Maybin a captain for the Bills game. Clearly teams like Cincy & Jets are keying on Freddy Jackson and taking him outta the game, Plus they have learned how to defend the Buffalo quick short passing game. Get in the receivers grills, bump them outta their routes and mess up the timing. So Gailey needed to come up with other options like utilizing Brad Smith more, Spiller more as a RB. At some point I'd dearly love to see the Bills build a power running game and give the Jets a taste of their own medicine by pounding the ball with the FB and wearing that defense down. So in the 4th QTR the Bills can let FJ loose! Perhaps even Spiller as the guy does have the speed to become another CJ2K, Jamaal Charles Buffalo will definitely get better defensively once Kyle Williams and Chris Kelsay return from injuries.and even the offense should get better once they get a tackle or two back from injuries. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To put some things in perspective... Let's face it, at the beginning of the year did anyone really think this years Bills would be 5-3 after 8 games and in the division hunt along with the Patriots and Jets? Not making excuses but!.. considering that the Bills didn't have their only outside pass rusher in Chris Kelsay and their only pro bowler in Kyle Williams along with CB Aaron Williams, that defense could be better this year. Better at stopping the run, better at rushing the passer, better in the secondary. The offense can even get better just by getting back one of the injured tackles so Levitre can move back to guard (who is hurting from a shoulder injury). btw, Kelsay was back for that Redskin game and it showed. The thing in my view is that although the defense can really improve with kelsay and Williams returning. The offense will only slightly improve as I still think the Bills are lacking top tackles. I mean wth good are players who are always injured year after year. The other aspect is it seems like the Bills are a one trick pony with Fitz and the quick passes. Fred Jackson is the main driving force for the offense, if teams are able to shut him down.... then the offense needs to shift gears and go with something different. Gailey did this exact same thing against Cincy. Like others have stated, dunno why Brad Smith or Spiller isn't more involved in the running game. I still yearn for the Bills to field a dominate O line that can run the ball at will and not some finesse team that relies on smoke and mirrors. -
If you know me, you already know what I'll say...games are won and lost in the trenches. I doubt the Bills do any better with all their tackles healthy The better defense won the game.
-
Yea he is... but he also get away with a bunch of holding, hands on after 5 yards not to mention the bumps and nudges he gets away with. The Bills need to find the TE more today IMHO. Throwing at Revis island isn't the brightest idea
