McShay's First Mock -- 1.0
thewildrabbit replied to The AntiFin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Relax guys, the Bills have two games to go and will finish worse then the 10th pick -
If Walker had stayed he would have been the starting RT under Fewell, Jauron only cut him because he said Walker couldn't get to the line fast enough when they ran the "no huddle" offense. Something the bills scrapped after 2 weeks. Kirk Chambers stunk worse then Walker ever did. Anyway, Jauron was a moron, cutting both his starting LG and RT before the season and not replacing Walker with a decent talent. Don't forget he also fired his OC two weeks before the season started. Still, that moron did better then Gailey has so far.

I think the point he was trying to make is that when Chandler was playing he wasn't targeted very often. When he was the primary receiver he almost always caught the ball and made a big play. He just was NOT being utilized enough. This goes into the fact that Chan Gailey's offense never has employed the TE very often in his offensive schemes. My take is like the poster states that Chandler could be a very potent weapon in an offense that uses him properly. Then the running game, the OP states that gailey abandons the run, even when its working so well. Stating some nonsense about overworking the frail RB. something I don't understand because Spiller is about the exact same size as Jamaal Charles - Chris Johnson.

The only conspiracy theories here... must going on in your head. I seriously don't get why fans like you even try to defend this loser of a head coach, 4-12 last year to a probable 5-11 this year. Don't you want to see this team win? Stating that I also don't get why fans are so afraid of change, how could it get any worse then a bad team? This HC lost his players long ago as they are going thru the motions to collect their paycheck. The NY Jets ripped the heart out of this team 7 weeks ago.

I'm not arguing the player personnel differential at this point in the season, mainly because both Fred Jackson and Eric wood were still playing when this epic collapse started My complain is about the coaching, or lack of decent coaching on the defense and offense. My take is Fitz is way better then Alex Smith and yet Smith has a way better team around him which makes him look better. Gailey has had 2 years to make improvements on this team and really the only players that look good are the ones that were already with the team when he got here. Gailey didn't know Fitz was the better QB over Brian Brohm and Trent Edwards. Gailey didn't know Fred Jackson was the better RB over Lynch because when Lynch was here he was the starter. Plus he didn't know what he had in Fred Jackson or he never would have even drafted Spiller with the #9 overall. A DC that fields the worst rush defense in the history of the franchise and this HC retains him, then thinks the answer is to hire wannstache as LB'ers coach to help him out. Dunno why because his background was with a 4-3. even with the help this years defense is just about as bad as last years. they got a bit better against the run but sacrificed against the pass defense to do it. Is Wannstedt helping to tank the defense so he gets hired as HC?? Its all the coaching discrepancies that bother me. Its the lack of proper game plans, lack of ability to go in at half time and come out with something that works to win the game on both offense and defense. Bottom line is wins

Simply not true Look back at the first part of the season, Fred Jackson was the leading rusher and doing better then just about every other big name RB in the league. Ryan Fitzpatrick was also playing very well and continued to play well until the Bengals uncovered the Bills weak points on offense and exploited them. The plan was simple, shut down the short passing game, spy Fred Jackson and you stop the Bills offense cold! Why? because they have no power running game that can dominate the line of scrimmage in any fashion. because they have no deep passing game, a QB that can't take 5-7 step dropbacks because the O line won't allow him more then 3 seconds on any given play. Chan Gailey has no plan B.. or C...or D...or anything else beyond what he went into the season with!!! Which is unbelievably lame IMO. How does a HC not turn more to his running game when his QB is playing poorly game after game. Then when his RB is playing well and doing good, he mysteriously stops using him, stating he is frail or something. WTH he is an NFL RB with about the same measurable's as Chris Johnson 5'11'' 191- Jamaal Charles 5'11'' 199- CJ Spiller 5'11'' 197 The defense was a sieve all year, but in the beginning they were getting some pressure on the QB and also getting loads of turnovers. One player injured and the pass rush was gone. A weak O line with some bad players, and others prone to injuries. Buddy Nix even knew he needed help on that line, its why he went after Tyson Clybo in free agency. But then failed to keep C Geo Hangartner, and failed to acquire further O line depth. Who is to say that a top coach would allow his team to enter the season with a halfassed O line, with one injury prone pass rusher...with one tight end who wasn't even proven going into the season...with a defense that had the worst rush defense in the history of the franchise and yet keeps the same DC. Who is to say that a top head coach hires the proper coordinators with proven NFL experience at their jobs that know what they are doing, and that has all their players tuned into what their jobs are, so when an injury hits there is little or no drop off in play. ( like the Packers last year 19 players on IR) Who is to say that a top head coach hires the proper strength and conditioning coaches to ensure there are less injuries on his team. Bill Cowher, Marty Schottheimer have this team in the playoffs this year. They wouldn't go into a season with so many weak areas, so many bad players, so little depth.

Some nice responses, some with excuses, if ya like excuses.... What is it with the Buffalo Bills fans....do they suffer from a sort of bizarre paradoxical psychological phenomenon, like some variation of the Stockholm syndrome? Have the fans been battered and beaten down for so long that 5 wins in a season is good enough? Are fans expressing empathy for the 3 headed monster at OBD that have held them captive for over a decade, so much so that they feel the need to defend them, and the people they hire? sorry guys, but 4-11 to a probable 5-10 this year simply isn't near good enough for me, and never will be. To me coaching is everything! Jim Harbough just proved you don't need 3-5 years to turn around a bad team 6-10 last year with basically the same players to 11-3 so far this year
-
He is bad... when the Bills get down by 7 points and the head coach has his head so far up his own butt that he stops running the ball (even when its working well) and just constantly calls shotgun passing plays Thereby putting even more pressure on a QB with a bad O line who doesn't have time to throw the 5-7 step drops. This team should have hired Turk Schonert as HC, he would be doing the exact same thing as Gailey.

Look back at the recent history of the 49ers: 2005 4-12 HC Mike Nolan 2006 7-9 HC Mike Nolan 2007 5-11 HC Mike Nolan 2008 7-9 HC Mike Singletary 2009 8-8 HC Mike Singletary 2010 6-10 HC Mike Singletary 5-10 interim HC Jim Tomsula 1-0 Mediocre right? Middle of the pack to low end drafting right? About the same as the Buffalo Bills 7-9, 7-9. 7-9, 6-10, 4-12, right? Look what a new head coach hire can do to a team, with NO OFF SEASON to speak of....One new HCing coaching hire in Jim Harbough and the team is not only in the playoffs but could be fighting for home field thru out.....amazing! A top 5 defense that hasn't allowed a rushing TD this year! With Donte Whitner starting ! A refurbished failure of a QB who has basically stunk it up his entire career until he plays for a HC that knows how to set up the offense to help him. Is Alex Smith suddenly an "elite" QB? Oh, but the team is winning, and is 11-3 under a new HC? He must be a an "elite" " Franchise" QB because a team can't win without one... I don't understand this fan base, half the fans here think Gailey is doing good at 5-9. Half the fans here think Buddy Nix is doing a good job. Most of the fans are still blaming Jauron / Levy for lack of talent, and still state its lack of player talent that is responsible for all the losses What a crock of horse-crap, its the lack of talent in coaching that has ruined this franchise over the last decade, and continues to ruin it, pure and simple.

Chan talking himself out of a job?

Yea but the Bronco's and 49ers have owners that want to win... -
I just don't get why more posters here don't get this fact

Chan talking himself out of a job?
thewildrabbit replied to Paulfw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get a kick out of the Gailey apologists because he is likeable and grandfatherly. First off, who said he would make a good OC, but not a good HC? The Man was fired in his college job at GT! Gailey was fired after one year as OC in KC because his offense didn't win games after going 2-14. The man had 2 years to build an O line, he didn't and the result is lack of protection for the QB. That QB "turd" as someone pointed out, is the sole reason as to why gailey even won 9 games. Don't forget that Gailey groomed Trent Edwards to start after Edwards won the job over Fitz in preseason. The defense was bad under Jauron and his Tampa 2, its even worse under Gailey. In fact, it set an historical record of being the worst run defense in the 50 year history of the Buffalo Bills franchise in 2010! won 4 games last season 4-12 won 5 games this season 5-9 3 words...worse then Jauron! Don't forget the 08 season where Jauron got an extension, Jauron won his first 5 out of 6 and then had an epic collapse with Trent Edwards at QB,Jauron still managed 7-9 -
I was being nice,...stating that Jauron didn't suck must be the singular most stupid statement I've ever read on this board in all my years of reading this forum. And Chan gailey is far worse then Jauron ever was... Jauron was HC of the Buffalo Bills from 2006-2009 going 24-33 Chan gailey HC 2010-2011 is currently 9- 21 and if the losing steak continues the next 2 games he will have lost 9 straight, 2 years at 9-23 Dick Jauron was a bad head coach in just about every sense that coach can be bad, it was the reason he was FIRED!!!

49ers defense OR Packers offense
thewildrabbit replied to maddenboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd take either, but only If the coaching staff comes with them -
wow, your credibility just went into the toilet with that statement... In case you missed it, after Marv Levy retired Dick Jauron was the HC & de facto GM. All the player moves were made by jauron from 2008 thru 2009. Also in case you missed it, the coaching (or lack of quality coaching) has been the biggest problem with this franchise for the last decade.
-
What is it with you homers making excuses for this head coach...now he isn't winning because of the talent!!! All the stars on this team were there before Nix- Gailey got here (save Darius) Did the man not inherit a 6-10- 7-9 team on the verge of being good? All he has accomplished has made the team worse in almost every area. If a HC looks over a player and doesn't approve of them he can cut them, bench them, do whatever. Nix brought in Cornell Green and Gailey started him! He couldn't see in preseason that the guy was teribad? He has taken the players Jauron had and done worse with them. How long is it going to take to sink in... that this HC sucks worse then Jauron? This thread is about the GM, and you just made my point that this GM stinks and deserves an F for failure.
-
Once the Bills were ahead by 7 points did the Dolphins stop running the ball with Reggie Bush and just go to shotgun passing plays all game like the Bills would have done? ...hell no! 203 yards from Bush. Spiller was on his way to a similar day, but Gailey being the putz he is ...stopped running Spiller and started throwing. Doncha know Gailey is saving Spiller because he is frail...
-
How does this man qualify as a decent head coach? 4-12 last year 5-11 this year worse then Jauron any way you shape it
-
C'mon homers, get a freaking grip on reality! 2010 draft looking like a huge failure, Spiller at #9 overall? 2011 draft looking better but only because of Marcel Darius @ #3 overall. Not one player from that draft became an instant starter besides MD. What stellar moves has Buddy Mix made in trades-free agency-the draft to elevate himself above Tom Modrak. A man who found players like Fred Jackson-George Wilson-Eric Wood- Andy Levitre-Stevie Johnson- Kyle Williams Cornell Green at RT... forced to pick up players off the waiver wire to reinforce the O line when he Green stunk it up so badly he was released partway during his first season...huge failure to solidify the O line in 2010. Buddy Nix knew he needed O line help this year, (after the draft, and during free agency) its why he went after Tyson Clybo so hard. But then did nothing to help bolster that O line when Clybo stayed in Atlanta. No real O line help early in the draft or free agency for two years now. Trading away Marshawn Lynch during the season for a 4th when the NO Saints stated they would have give given a 3rd if Buddy would have answered his phone. The Saints were desperate for a RB help at that time of the year and might have even given up more. Not to mention that Nix could have traded Lynch to Seattle on draft day in 2010 for a 4th, it is what they offered way back then. That extra #4 pick would have been able to help that year. Now looking at what Lynch is doing in Seattle vs Spiller with Fred Jackson on IR. Marshawn Lynch is the #8 th RB in the NFL ATM with over 1000 yards rushing and 11 TD's...smart move? Trading away Lee Evans, the Buffalo Bills only deep speed threat and without Evans Stevie Johnson looks rather ordinary at #21 in the NFL 68 receptions for 872 yards and only 6 TD's.... Looks like Johnson did better last season with Evans on the other side taking away all the coverage. Last years stats #11 overall receiver with 82 receptions, 1073 yards, 10 TD's as the #2 wide out. Trading away Evans, a former #1 pick for a 4th without replacing him....smart move? Letting Poz and Whitner leave, both the Jags and 49ers have top 5 defenses, so was it the players or the coaches? Putting all his hope in Shawn Merriman as the only pass rusher, a player know for a history of injuries. In two years he couldn't find a decent pass rusher somewhere, somehow? Draft- free agency-trade! Bottom line in the NFL is wins, so far Buddy's man, Chan Gailey has done far worse then the known moron Dick Jauron. 5-9 is looking like 5-11 with Denver and the Patriots yet to play, perhaps both playoff teams. Maybe you guys think 5-11 after a 4-12 year is an improvement. I'm thinking they got lucky the first part of the year with turnovers or this year is even worse then last year. Buddy Nix=way to many mistakes made by a very experienced personnel man. Conversely, just look at what Thomas Dimtroff did for the Atlanta Falcons in his first 2 years as GM. Google him it to see what a real GM could do for a team

Emerging Sub Plot in Draft could effect Bills ...
thewildrabbit replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Speaking of Sam Bradford, looking at his performance on that team is kinda like watching what would happen should the bills take a QB with the first pick this year. The Rams don't have a good receiver corps, they don't have a good O line, they don't have a good defense, the QB is always getting hurt, always under duress,...sound familiar? The Rams coaching stinks, the game plans stink, the schemes stink...sound familiar? I'm not as enamored with taking a QB in this years draft as the rest of you, as I know he will just get beaten down and cast off in another 3 years. This GM & HC have already proven they don't know how to build a line, build a defense, build a good team. -
There is no deep passing game because this Bills O line was the worst at allowing pressure in 3 seconds according to ESPN, and that was after game 5 when the line was mostly intact. Now that Eric Wood is on IR this line is really showing its flaws. There is no deep passing game simply because Fitz has no time to throw 5-7 step drop back passes, and he has no pocket to step up in or float around in. It collapses after 3 seconds on most plays. But you are right, this team traded away Lee Evans and so they have no deep threat to double cover anymore. CJ Spiller was finally starting to look good and gailey stops using him....the morons in the front office gave the idiot Dick Jauon 3 years, why shouldn't another idiot in Gailey get 3 years. Even tho Chan Gailey can't even beat tricky dickeys record of 7-9....or even his 6-10 record in which he was fired.... how pathetic is that!!
-
He lost me weeks ago when he abandoned the run against the Cowboys, especially when Jackson was tearing it up. Gailey calls games like a little girl, if the bills get behind all he calls are pass plays trying to catch up. Turk Schonert was no better. Ya know what tho, April comes around and everyone forgets how inept he is, they all think the draft is going to send the Bills to the SB next year.
-
Is Chan pulling a Jauron? Just being as stupid as possible so he gets fired, then he can sit home and still get paid.
-
Clearly the Bills need a pass rusher more then a QB at this point, no question! But then they have needed one since Aaron Schobel was hurt in 2008 and they saw they had no pass rush once he left the field. While I agree that if an "elite" QB is there you draft him regardless, ordinarily. With this coaching staff I'm not convinced they wouldn't ruin him just like so many Bills staffs have ruined QB's in the past. The mere fact that this regime knew they needed O line help and went after Cornell Green and then didn't draft any real immediate O line help the last 2 years shows me they don't know the difference between a good player and a bad player. Plus Gailey has tried to make do with some not so good players on that line for 2 years now. It simply makes no sense to me that an offensive minded HC would try and get by with injury prone and less then decent players. Then there is the fact that Gailey spent an off season grooming Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Brian Brohm while finally settling on Edwards. This shows me he didn't clearly know Fitz was the better QB, remember him stating that all 3 were about the same. Looking at the game plans and play calls the last 5 weeks, I'd sure as heck not trust this staff with an "elite" rookie QB. I realize that this team has suffered quite a few injuries, but I also realize that when your QB is in a slump and not playing well game after game you that make some changes to your offense. You try and build a power running game to take pressure off the QB, instead of calling pass play after pass play and putting even more pressure on the QB. Its like Gailey abandons the run after getting down by 7 points. Looking 5-11 right now, if RW chooses to keep this staff, then a pass rusher. If he has a do over and hires a new HC who will hire some top assistants, then yea a QB.
