You guys are freaking dreaming, every team in the NFL wants the guy.... 15 million a year might not be enough
-
good, the Colts owner is an idiot, a rich idiot ...but still an idiot. The starting QB gets a severe injury so he decides to rebuild the entire team, and unless he hires a top OC & DC he will realize his new GM's choice for a head coach was lame
-
To me coaching is everything, Harbaugh in San Fran is a perfect example. The 49ers GM and scouting dept has been getting it right the last few years, their problem was a decent head coach to put it all together. He took a QB that everybody thought was below average and would never be any good. Harbough gave his QB a proper game plan to build his confidence and manage the game and the result was the NFC championship game in one year. The 2010 Buffalo Bills had a bunch of assistants with little or no NFL experience and it showed. The 2011 team did better but was held back by a sub par DC and some injuries to key players. The 2012 team will need some key draft pieces and some free agent help and add some depth and they should win more games. Also, lets hope that the play caller doesn't go pass crazy every time the Bills lose the lead.

if an OT is the pick at 10...
thewildrabbit replied to swnybillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A top OT would help open up the deep passing game, something that has basically been non existent the last few years. Its not that jaruons OC's didn't try and call deep passes, they did all the time. But with out decent time to throw those deep passes it was sorta stupid to even try, kinda why Edwards became capt check down. This is a big reason why TO didn't work out so well, also why Lee Evans became expendable. To the people that are demanding a top pass rusher, if you guy recall the Bills had a decent one not long ago in Aaron Schobel. the team still wasn't very good. Building a top defense can be a good thing, but then the Bills had top defense back in 2003 and still finished 6-10, #2 overall defense in the league. The problem was the 28th offense that year. I look at this offense and it could be so much better with a top OT, deep speed WR and a top TE -
If he continues to call plays like he did last season when the Bills lost the lead, then NO! If he changes up his offensive game plan to run more and involve Spiller in the run game and not go pass happy when the Bills are down, then YES!
-
yea well I guess you missed the 4th QTR, with about 11 min in the game and the Ravens driving to the 50 yard line by running the ball. The only pass play called was intercepted right over the middle and no Raven player was even near where Flacco threw the ball.

Are you just not able to read and comprehend what i said, do you not understand the main argument here? Usually when a bad team ( a disaster ) gets a new GM and head coach they gut almost the entire roster and start over. This regime didn't even come close to doing that. In fact not one drafted player became a starter from the 2010 draft FROM DAY ONE, do you not understand this concept? Donte Whitner, as much as Bills fans hate the guy he became an instant starter and remained a starter until he chose to leave Buffalo. (probably because he knew the defensive coaching sucked in Buffalo) Did any of the2010 free agents become starters besides Cornell Green who was completely useless. I still don't know why it took the coaches / GM 5 games to understand how bad he was. Try and comprehend this, it wasn't the players who were bad in 2010. It was all the assistant coaches with little or no NFL experience that were bad. The DC Edwards was just replaced because he sucked for the past two years. Look back to the 2010 season opener, CJ Spiller was named the starting RB because both Lynch and Jackson were slightly injured. That starting position lasted exactly 5 plays until HC Chan Gailey saw that Spiller couldn't block for protections, he couldn't find a hole, he couldn't run a route and was promptly benched. Fred Jackson then entered the game and took over the RB position with a cast on his hand. How does the HC name a player a starter when he was completely clueless about the fact that Spiller didn't know his job? Miscues like this happened all of 2010 with different players, RT Cornell Green was another example. Currently the main core of this current team is still being manned by players from the Jauron / levy era, and that's the team that beat the NE Patriots. After all the injuries to the Jauron / Levy starters the team fell on its face. The biggest injuries that hurt the team the most WR Roscoe Parrish- C Eric Wood- LT Dem Bell- RB Fred Jackson -NT Kyle Williams, ALL STARTERS FROM THE JAURON / LEVY era.
-
I agree with that, put Fitz on that Ravens team and they win home field. Even Ed Reed wants Flacco to get the ball out quicker
-
What a crock, i really enjoy reading these delusional posts about how it will take years to fill every need. Making draft picks count, that's why Spiller has been a back up RB for a year and a half. Not one of you has acknowledged the fact that if the team was desperate for so many players when Nix first took over, why then did he make the statement "'we are not that far away", he didn't think it was in rebuild mode when he made that statement. It was only after game 5 of the season that he recanted. If the team was in such a desperate state as you all claim, then how come not one player from that 2010 draft started on day one...replacing all those incompetent players from the Jauron / Levy era? The starting QB is from Jauron / Levy The starting RB is from Jauron / levy The starting #1 WR is from Jauron / Levy most of the O line is from Jauron / Levy 3 of 5 Special Teams P / K from Jauron / Levy The defense has the most changes brought about by Nix, and with all those changes it still stinks about as bad as any defense Jauron fielded. Still we will need to see who the starters are in 2012 after everyone recovers from injuries. Kyle Williams pro bowler (injured) - Jairus Byrd- George Wilson- Spencer Johnson- Chris Kelsay- Dwan Edwards- Drayton Florence still 5 of the 10 are from Jauron / Levy Oh yea, you guys make a great argument about how bad that Jauron / Levy era devastated the team. If Poz and Whitner didn't choose to play elsewhere they would still be starting. Let me know when Gailey / Nix finally change the core of the team to players they acquired, and see what record the team has then.
-
If you actually read my posts I was stating that the only player that started for the Buffalo Bills on day one at the beginning of the season, and not because of injuries to other players. That player was Marcell Darius the #3 overall pick. That is two years, two drafts, one starter! Someone earlier pointed out that they thought that ...."" Bottom line is that Nix inherited a team in total shambles"" If the team was in total shambles how does not one player start from the 2010 draft class and only one player start from the 2012? There may eventually be lots of starters out of both those draft classes, who knows. All Ive been stating that if indeed the team was a total wreck when Nix / Gailey took over. how does not one player make it to starter in 2010? Look back to the Levy era 2006-2007 Donte Whitner, Ko Simpson, Kyle Williams 2006, Marshawn Lynch, Paul Posluszny 2007, two years, 5 starters. Jeez, good thing the 49ers or NY Giants didn't read those posts, otherwise the Giants might not have the #4 overall sack leader this season with 16.5 sacks or the 49ers might not have drafted a lock down RT for the last two years. Who really cares what some obscure website says about a player, Its how the big boys grade them. Scout.com had JPP rated as the 14th best player in the 2010 NFL draft, while Davis was rated the 24th best player, and 5th ranked OT. Funny thing that the 49ers saw something in the kid and traded up to the 11th pick to draft him, thereby solidifying a definite position of NEED for them. The 49ers spent two first rounders in 2010 on a RT and G. Another interesting thing is Brian Bulaga was rated as the 10th best player who the 49ers passed over to take Davis, the Packers took him at #23. http://profootball.s...nid=124&yr=2010
-
Neither of those links provides concrete proof that either of those two players had serious enough problems to keep them from being drafted in the top 15, all that was is speculation and opinion. Mike Mayock stated JPP was a top ten pick, i believe him. The only thing you smell is the BS you are trying to stir up The only thing I've been saying about any of those 1st round picks like Whitner is that they became starters on day one. Levy didn't need to acquire a top pass rusher as he already had Aaron Schobel who had 14 sacks in 2006, he wasn't desperate for a pass rusher like the Bills have been for 3 years now. So in conclusion if you think Nix is better... well, you are delusional. Like I stated eariler, even Brandon & Jauron did better. One solid starter out of two drafts says it all, and that sole starter was the #3 overall... that is pathetic!!
-
You are calling JPP a 1 year wonder and Anthony Davis head cases, for exactly what reason? Have any proof of this BS you are spouting ? Because JPP is a monster and would be an upgrade to the team over any current Buffalo Bill. Davis would have locked down a spot that was pure chaos almost the entire 2010 season and still is a weak spot on the team. Urbik and Pears aren't very good in my view either, the Bills still allow pressure after 3 seconds even with Bell, Wood & Levitre healthy. What are you talking about in that last sentence? What epic fail? Whitner was a full time stater his entire time in Buffalo and now with the same with the 49ers. Whitners hit on Saints starting RB Pierre Thomas and knocking him out of that play-off game against the Saints set the tone for the entire game. Same with Marshawn Lynch who made the pro bowl as a Bill, not only that Lynch had over 1200 yards this year and 12 TDs, better then any current Bills RB this season McKelvin is still with the team as a nickle back and much like Aaron Maybin as well as many Bills players might just be a product of bad coaching, as Maybin had 6 sacks with the Jets this season. Maybin had zero sacks in his two years with the bills. Eric Wood was also a first round pick. Only McCargo was and still is a complete bust as a draft pick. So my reference was to starters, while you want to compare first round picks. One player starting out of two years of drafting still stinks in my view, no matter how you look at it.

If you think the body of work from Levy was a disaster, then what about Nix so far.. Armageddon? Do I really need to keep reminding you that 7-9, 2x will always beat 6-10. 4-12? Spiller over JPP, Anthony Davis, Pouncey is just as bad as Whitner over Ngata, maybe even worse. Because up till the FJ injury Spiller was a back up, whereas Whitner was a starter his entire time in Buffalo. Dockery and Walker were at least valid attempts in free agency to bolster the line. I think they both beat Cornell Green hands down Nix now chooses to find his players off the waiver wire. IMO Levy did better, it was the HC to be blamed for failure to properly motivate his players Levy may have been a disaster in the head coach he chose, but his body of work in regards to player acquisition is far superior to what Nix has done. Dude seriously, get over what happened over 4-5 years ago, let it go. Start thinking of how badly this new GM is doing. Even Brandon - Jauron did better with the draft. Stevie Johnson, Bell, Wood, Byrd, Levitre. 5 starters in two years vs one starter who was the #3 overall draft pick to boot
-
The mere fact that you fail to acknowledge the that the Bills needed a playmaker at WR - TE over another RB shows me you are hell bent on defending the current regime. First off, Spiller wasn't the BPA. He was a player Chan Gailey had his eye on long before the draft even took place. ""Chan Gailey wants to draft a water bug Posted by NBC Sports on March 23, 2010, 2:10 PM EST The Bills have one of the better receiving backs in football with Fred Jackson. They have one of the most powerful and talented backups in Marshawn Lynch. But they don't have any other running backs on the roster, and that's why Chan Gailey wants to draft one. "The guys that are coming out now, there's a bunch of those 5-9, 185-pound or 195-pound, quick-as-a-cat water bugs that are running backs-slash-receivers that might give you a little bit of a punch on the field, maybe make a big play," Gailey told reporters Tuesday morning. Gailey used the spread offense in Kansas City and knows how to use versatile, explosive players. Lynch's future with the team after 2010 remains uncertain, so drafting some depth at the position is on Gailey's to-do list."" http://profootballta...ft-a-water-bug/ http://espn.go.com/b...raft-a-scatback Notice the date on the above article. What gets me with this argument is that Gailey used Spiller more as a receiver then he did at RB before FJ's injury, and I'll bet if he had it do over again he drafts a WR, either.Demaryius Thomas or Dez Bryant. My take is, Gailey seems to think Spiller is to frail to be given a full time RB workload, and perhaps that's why he stopped running him in several games this past year
-
Eric Wood was drafted to play RG for the Buffalo Bills, its what he did his first two years. He switched to center this season and made that line so much better, which kinda of solidifies the argument for drafting Pouncey With Pouncey at center and Wood and Levitre at guards the line would actually allow the QB to "step up" in the pocket to complete passes. More then that, he would actually have a pocket!
-
Still blaming this teams recent failure on a man who worked on this team in 2006-2007 and yet this same man brought in Fred Jackson- Kyle Williams- Donte Whitner- Marshawn Lynch - Paul Posluszny. which is more star players in his two years then Buddy Nix has in his two years so far. Lynch was an immediate starter and an impact player, so was Whitner, Poz and Williams. Levy also brought in Derrick Dockery, Langston Walker to beef up that O line, if he had a failing it was that he didn't bring in a top center which is a critical key part of building a top O line. Melvin Fowler started all 16 games both years and was the weak link. Levy also hired Steve Fairchild (ex Ram OC)to build a decent aerial attack. What Marv Levy's biggest failure was, is the fact he hired Dick Jauron in the first place over Mike Sherman. If anything Marv Levy's two year stint could be defined by his 2 QB's, JP Losman & Trent Edwards, the latter being a rookie. Instead of hiring an offensive mentor for his two young QB's, he hired an offensive moron who ruined them both. Otherwise the team could have finished better then 7-9. Marv levy's teams finished with back to back 7-9 records which is better then Buddy Nix's records of 4-12, 6-10. So while you are very critical of what Marv did in his two years, what he accomplished in his two years far exceeds what Buddy Nix has done. Anyway, While I agree that the owner of this team has been the biggest problem in regards to wins over the last decade. But then, that hasn't been this owners ultimate goal all along. His goal has been to sell tickets, fill season seats and make a profit. Something his lackeys have done a suburb job at even in a bad recession. To us fans, winning is everything. To this owner, profitably is everything. What I think most fans just don't get is with a few proper moves (free agency, the draft and assistant coaches hired) this team could have been a much better team the last two years instead of a very one dimensional passing offense and a porous defense.
-
Simply go back to the TO signing to understand what impact the skill players have on selling tickets, season ticket sales were slumping that year and his signing made an immediate impact as season tickets surged after he signed with the Bills for 6.5 million for one year. The reason why the TO experiment failed in Buffalo in 2009 was because of the failure to build that O line properly Bell- Scott- Levitre- Hangartner- Wood- Chambers.....Bell 8 GS- Scott 8 GS- Wood 10 GS- Chambers 9 GS. 3 of those 5 are no longer even on the Bills roster, and the line was ravaged by injuries. You may ask why the O line would result in a TO failure or a 6-10 year. That was the year dickhead Jauron cut his OC two weeks before the season started and AVP the QB coach took over both OC & QB coach duties. Not only that, but Jauron also cut the starting RT in Langston Walker ( who went back to the Raiders to start at RT for them) earlier Jauron had cut G Derrick Dockery. This was also the off season that the team traded away pro bowl LT Jason Peters. So the entire O line at every position was changed to a new player Now add in the fact that (unlike Chan Gailey who set up a short passing game to overcome the deficiencies in the O line) AVP kept calling for mid to deep passes and the QB simply didn't have the time or pocket to drop back that deep. The current Buffalo Bills O line was still in flux all season. The stats say that line is pretty decent. But the truth is that line is was just as weak as it was in 09-10-11 due to injuries to the starting LT & Center. The center position was the real Achilles heal as they tried to play 4-5 different players in that position and none were even close to Eric Woods ability. Also, the team was forced to try and play guard Levitre at LT because of injuries to both Bell and Hairston. This team is desperate for a pass rusher and help for that O line.... and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the team draft a WR or a CB with that #1, its what this team does.

Joe Philbin is the new Fins Head Coach
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What I'm saying is, wouldn't you as a new HC like to be able to hire your own assistants rather then have them dictated to you by the GM. An experienced DC like Mike Nolan would be infinitely more desirable then a position coach who is basically an unknown if he can even handle the DC position. Case in point, look what happened to the Buffalo Bills when they hired a LB'ers coach and promoted him to DC. Unproven commodity that failed big -
Joe Philbin is the new Fins Head Coach
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While the man might have exemplary credentials, i still question this hire. http://mo.palmbeachp...he-2115112.html Now after reading a bit more on this hire I see the Dolphins moronic GM screwed the team yet again as McCoy reportedly thinks the Dolphins passed on him because he didn't want to hire Dolphins secondary coach Todd Bowles as defensive coordinator. Now does this read to you guys like it reads to me, Chan Gailey hired the Dolphins LB coach as his DC and look what happened. Mike McCoy wasn't willing to have an assistant DB coach promoted to DC under him and would have preferred to hire a top DC. Which in my mind is the much smarter move. Dink brain Jeff Ireland seems intent on forcing any new HC to do what he wants. Is it any wonder why Sparano didn't succeed. Now I know why Jeff Fisher went to the Rams http://profootballta...-have-cost-job/ -
No! In fact he did not inherit a team a in total shambles and almost completely devoid of talent. I know that's what you homers who love to defend him state over and over, buts its not even close to being a true statement!!! Even Buddy Nix came out and stated " I know your not going to believe this, but we are not that far away" Remember that line? Buddy Nix thought the team was close to being a playoff team or he wouldn't have made that statement. This regime inherited Ryan Fitzpatrick- Fred Jackson- Stevie Johnson- Kyle Williams- George Wilson. The true stars on this team were already on the team. It was Buddy Nix & Chan Gailey job to find others like them. So far the only player they have found in the draft that started from day one last year was the #3 overall pick. All the rest only started because of injuries to the real starters. two years, one real starter The fact that the man brought in Cornell Green at all thinking he was an adequate RT was a freaking joke at someones ability to judge talent! Why should he get a pass on this? This free agent acquisition was a critical key move in locking down a very desperate position of NEED! Not only did Green not lock down the position he was absolutely horrible as a starting RT. The team quietly benched him for some mysterious injury and the quietly released him after 7 games. So now that Green was an abject failure Buddy Nix scouted the waiver wire and plucked some less then elite cast offs from other teams that needed to step in, basically guys off the street. This Cornell Green experiment was a "band-aid" move that didn't work out, and here it is 3 years later and the Bills STILL need a decent LT & RT. That is abject failure in my book! The Bills are currently forced into a quick, short passing scheme because that O line can't protect more then 3 seconds. They still need 2 top OT's and a decent backup or starting center, depending on how Eric Wood recovers. Why should Nix get a pass on 2-3 of the most important positions on the team that would have allowed them to win more games? It doesn't take 3 years to find a decent RT or LT or pass rusher. IDC what any of the homers say, its not true. No matter how badly you want to defend them The BPA doesn't cut it when you have a team desperate for help in certain critical areas. BPA is for teams that already have a strong roster and are not desperate like the Bills are. The BPA argument is moronic simply because what if its a RB at the #1draft spot for 10 years in a row, you are not going to keep drafting RB's year after year, or any particular position over and over. Bottom line is the team was desperate at 2- 3 areas in 2010, and here it is 3 years later and they are STILL desperate at those same positions. The impact that OT Anthony Davis or JPP would have made on the 2010 Bills team would have been an instant, and would have resulted in many more wins over the last 2 years IMO.

Joe Philbin is the new Fins Head Coach
thewildrabbit replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
well, not formally announced as HC just yet, next week probably I have to wonder if this is another Cam Cameron type hire as Philbin didn't call the offensive plays, Mike McCarthy did . While the mans record as OC of the Packers is pretty great, the fact that he didn't call the plays would make me think twice about hiring him to run the entire team. I mean how good can he be if the HC doesn't trust him enough to allow him to call the plays. Then again that Green Bay offense looked downright horrible without Philbin against the NY Giants. (He was off last week due to the death of his son.) So are the Giants that good or was it that the team missed Philbin? This hire also makes me think that the Dolphins also hope to get back up Packer QB Matt Flynn as well. -
While you make a good point about the system that Buddy Nix has had to deal with, the man has also scrood the pooch in many ways. Cornell Green at RT in free agency at 2 mill was a total waste and a total joke. Buddy Nix stated he was going to get some sleep as free agency opened and this was the result? Whomever thought that man would be some sort of an upgrade at RT should have been fired immediately. The RB (Spiller) pick in the first round in 2010 when the team had so many other glaring needs. Primarily a pass rusher- OT- Center. The case can be made that if the Bills draft either of those positions with that #1 pick they win more games then they have the last two years. Like I pointed out earlier DE Jason Pierre Paul was graded as the # 10th best player- OT Anthony Davis would have solved a problem that plagued the team most of the 2010 & 2011 seasons- C Maurkice Pouncey would have allowed Wood to stay at guard and could have been a big upgrade on that line. No teams take a RB that early in the draft anymore unless they are very very special like Adrian Peterson. Spiller could ultimately develop into another Chris Johnson, but somehow I doubt it considering how reluctant Chan Gailey is to use him on a full time basis. Torell Troup with the 41st pick is such a slap in the face when the Patriots took Rob Gronkowski with the 42nd. TE Jimmy Graham was a 3rd round pick by the Saints. That entire 2010 draft was used mostly on the defensive side and the defense really didn't improve from 2010 to 2011. That entire 2010 draft is like the bills just spun their wheels and gained very little when they could have gained so much with a different draft and free agency Two of the most important areas that every team needs are pass rush and O line and this team is still very weak in both areas after 2 years of this regime. I still question this teams ability at talent evaluations and the proper judgements as to what personnel should be acquired.

Disclaimer: Unconfirmed New Owner?
thewildrabbit replied to It's in My Blood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My take is this owner is set in his ways, and it looks like he wants to be the only owner of the Buffalo Bills. So... -
any player worth a rats patoot is going to be re-signed by their team or franchised Free agency is more or less a crap shoot, and the only teams that win at this really know their stuff in terms of talent evaluation. Buddy Nix signed Cornell Green at RT his first year with the Buffalo Bills, and that was after he stated he was going to get some sleep when free agency opened that year. He did much better last year with Nick Barnett, but then if I remember correctly Barnett was released by the Packers. I really gotta wonder If the Bills will really spend this year

Eagles kicking Trent Edwards tires
thewildrabbit replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jauron was an offensive moron to be sure, and he did manage to kill more then one QB's confidence. NFL history is filled with comeback stories about cast off QB's. perhaps the Best is Ex Patriots / 49res / Raiders QB Jim Plunkett who was completely shell shocked in New England and then in San Fran Al Davis sat him down and let him recover. Built a dominate run game and let Plunkett hand it off.
