Buddy doesn't like Top DEs Mock
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Particularly if the Bills don't re sign Bell or Johnson Brockers is listed as a DT all the way...man It would be nice if the Bills drafted for the O line (Early) like they have for that D line- Troup-Carrington- Darius -
Boy, the Colts are in deep do-doo in 2012
thewildrabbit replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Colts have an owner who looks like Foster Brooks ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcYTQokKdIg ) and tweets to his fans. I think he made a really stupid move in firing the Polian's and hiring this young GM. Colt owner Jim Irsay thinks that Andrew Luck is a 100% sure fire lock to be a great QB, probably the main reason why he figured he no longer needed the Polian's. It was Bill Polian that chose Payton Manning over Ryan Leaf, and the result has been over a decade of division titles and 2 Super bowl appearances a Super Bowl win. While the other QB picked by the Chargers right behind Manning at @2 overall turned out to be one of the worst draft picks ever at QB. Bill Polian was said to be watching lots of film on RG3, and was still in the process of evaluating both Luck and RG3 when he was fired. Gonna be interesting to see if Luck can succeed on a team that is rebuilding and without a really good O line like he had in College. Is Luck another Leaf? -
You do realize that McNabb has failed with both the Redskins and Vikings, and the latter team preferred starting a rookie over him. The Redskins realized McNabb stinks at comebacks and running hurry up offense and benched him for a backup. The guy was somewhat of a bonehead and doesn't even know the rules, he didn't know that NFL games could end in a tie! http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Donovan-McNabb-didn-t-know-that-NFL-games-could-?urn=nfl,122568 The guy did bring his team to 4 NFC Championship games and one super bowl, but don't forget in that SB he screwed up trying to run a 2 min drill that lasted 4 min. Probably the main reason he never made it to more then one SB and lost so many NFC Championship games, unlike Jim Kelly who was a master at the 2 min drill. I think he was in a top offensive scheme (WCO) and taught by an excellent head coach. He was also on some very good teams surrounded by very good players to make all those playoff appearances. Andy Reid knows how to build a good team, and Reid is lucky enough to have an owner that backs him for the players he desires. It was Andy Reid that taught Vick to stay in the pocket rather then run, taught him better footwork and technique, and made him a better pocket passer with the Eagles then he ever was with the Falcons. Players don't teach other players technique, coaches do.

Why blaming Fitz is stupid
thewildrabbit replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very well said, basically spared me from this moronic argument about comparing Fitz to Eli Manning or any other QB on a good team. Some here just love to argue and the others either love Fitz and defend him or hate the guy and bash him. Fitz is the starter, GET OVER IT! -
because Vick throws with his left hand, and his blindside is on the right side.... does the h8 ever end?

a bit of Nostalgia - who had this on there wall?
thewildrabbit replied to BigBallzMcgee's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still have that poster and many others still in frames. In fact I still have an 1987 poster signed by ole Jim hanging on my wall. You know the one where Mark Gastineau #99 is closing in right behind him. It must be somewhat unique because I can find an image of it on the web. -
That Eagle line isn't exactly that great as Vick does seem to get hit a lot trying to make those deeper throws. Good fit for Trent if he makes the team he can sit and learn under some of the best offensive minds in the NFL, In a WCO style offense too.

OTOH, I don't see Stevie Johnson in any of those lists... even before or after Bills WR Kamar Aiken ranked at 113th and @ 465,000 BTW, wth is Kamar Aiken?
-
My take is Stevie and his agent must be looking at what the Buffalo Bills & Baltimore Ravens overpaid for Lee Evans and they thinks he is worth as much, if not more. The problem is that Evans didn't come with the same baggage, all those drops and the stupid hi-jinx that Johnson didn't stop with... even after being warned. He and his agent must think that type of behavior is tolerated by good teams, and that all his dropped passes will go unnoticed by good teams. To put it in perspective, http://www.profootba...rop-percentage/ 47th ranked WR pass drops, 13 dropped in 2010 ""You could levy the same charge against Steve Johnson of Buffalo, who was capable of looking the real deal one game, and then dropping five passes the next. Consistency and concentration are key attributes of guys who finish highly in these rankings, and it would be fair to say both men could do with working on those attributes to take their already impressive games to the next level."" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGJWBWcFD_4 The 18th ranked WR in the NFL, (76, rec, 1004 yards) realistically the guy might only be worth 5-6, and If they aren't willing to franchise tag him at 9 mill....

Nix likes to hold on to his draft picks like the grim reaper, so now way do the Bills trade that #1 this year. Wallace would be worth a #1 pick, just not the 10th overall. Not when this team is so desperate for a pass rusher or other help. Anyway, who i their right mind thinks that Wallace would want to come to Buffalo after being to the SB with the Steelers
-
Clearly there was a huge drop off once Wood went on IR, and it remained throughout the rest of the season. Hanggartner was the only player on the team with experience at center for the Buffalo Bills and used to snapping to Fitz, so the drop off would have been marginal. The Bills cut their own throat on that move whether you believe it or not. Hangman went to Carolina after the Bills cut him and he and he played RG the entire season for them. It still remains to be seen if Rinehart even makes next years roster as a back up. Lee Evans was a talented WR for the Bills, and a first round pick that could run any route or he wouldn't have ever been a first round pick. With 4.39 speed at the combine its no wonder why the guy is rated as a deep threat WR. He didn't "fit" into Chan Gaileys offense because Fitz doesn't have the time in the pocket to get him the deep ball. The Bills didn't trade away Lee Evans because of his limitations, they traded him because of the limitations of this Bills offense under Gailey. Yea, he would have been the #2 WR on the team to Johnson so that is the main reason why they traded him. Still,. the team could have certainly used him on offense this year with all the 4-5 WR sets the Bills play caller utilized (578 passing attempts) Back up #3 QB Brad Smith is currently listed as the #2 WR over David Nelson on the Bills website....how lame is that. Probably because Brad Smith made 3.750.000 last year To the point of this thread, the Bills are probably offering Johnson what the 18th best WR should make in the NFL maybe 5-6 mill total. He probably wants more.... so judging from past history of this team concerning money...
-
Perhaps you are forgetting the game the Bills moved Andy Levite to center against the Dolphins, it was an unmitigated disaster! Anyways, Urbik played center and Rinehart move to guard after that first Dolphins game, and at least he wasn't as god awful as Levitre . The Bills could have moved Hangartner back to center, and Urbik could have stayed at guard. That would have meant more stability on the line the entire year. Then if they draft an OT in the 2nd or 3rd round, again they have more stability for that line which both LT's were injured during the year and again G Andy Levite was moved to LT for awhile. Clearly the line wasn't the same without Wood at center and they cut the only guy that had experience as a Buffalo Bill at center, so the drop off wouldn't have been as bad as it was. Nobody ever said anything about not drafting Marcel Darius, who was graded as the best player in the draft by many. But that line has needed help and depth since they traded away Jason Peters. As for Lee Evans and his injury while with the Ravens, who knows if he suffers that injury in Buffalo. My entire point was that the team had some players that could have clearly helped in last years injury plagued season. Evans wasn't missed in those first 5 games when the short passing game was working. Once it stopped working and the injuries hit they could have really used the guy. Don't forget that Brad Smith is still listed as the #2 WR over David Nelson on the teams website. Interesting to note that now the bills are looking for a deep speed WR...
-
First off injuries matter, they happened to the Packers 2 years ago with 15+ players on IR and they still won the SB. The Pack did it just like the NY GIants did it at 9-7 from a wildcard. The Giants suffered also many injuries this year, including losing their starting LT, but they moved a guard to LT and the team didn't miss a beat. The difference between the Bills and Packers & Giants is those teams had enough depth on their roster to survive the injuries. The Bills didn't, pure and simple. So in order to overcome the injuries that every team seems to face in today's NFL either re-hire Rusty Jones (ex Bills S&C coach who Malarkey fired) away from Chicago or add more quality depth. In the Bills case they HAD some depth, they chose to trade away Lee Evans at WR and cut back up C / G Hangarter in pre season . That latter cut was probably a cost savings move that really screwed the team as they had no viable back up at center and in some games the Bills couldn't even get the snap off effectually in several games after Eric Wood went on IR. IDGAD what anyone says, trading away Lee Evans hurt the team more then anyone realizes. Lee became an after thought in Gaileys offense because its predicated on a short-quick passing game. Evans was known for being a deep threat and wasn't being thrown to by Fitz very often. So the trade was justified by some. The result of that trade was that the Bills no longer had a viable deep passing game threat once Evans was gone. Also with Evans gone it was easier for teams to roll coverages to Stevie Johnson plus they could play closer to the line without the fear of Evans beating them deep. "What IF" Instead of trading away Evans they keep him, and draft a top O tackle. Plus they also keep back up C / G Geoff Hangartner. Suddenly the offense doesn't take a nose dive into the toilet this past season when opposing defenses shut down the Bills short passing game, and with stability on the O line it actually opens up the deep passing game so Fitz has the time to take 5-7 step drop at times. Whole new ballgame! Lynch, Evans, Maybin all ex #1 draft picks who the bills failed to motivate and utilize properly so they either trade them away for mid round picks or cut them. Looking back at all the idiotic player & coaching moves this team has made over the last decade is it any wonder why they still keep making the wrong moves. Buffalo Bills fans should be praying to Jude the Apostle....
-
I can sorta understand the balking over Stevie if he is asking for 10 mill. All those drops and in big games, several of which the bills win "IF" he held on to it. Then considering all those pass attempts by this Bills team the last two years. I gotta wonder why Johnson doesn't have more receptions. Wes Welker 122 rec & Gronkowski had 90. Stevie Johnson had 76 receptions , David Nelson had 61. Anyway Vincent Jackson fits the profile of what Nix has stated he is looking for in a #1 WR 6'5'' 230, but then Johnson had the better year last year
-
I like SJ, but then if the guy is forcing you to pay 9 million a year would you rather have Mike Wallace, Vincent Jackson, Dwayne Bowe or DeSean Jackson ? Some team is going to sign Mike Wallace and give up its first round pick Cincy or NE? Then perhaps Wes Welker, Marques Colston, Mario Manningham, Reggie Wayne who are supposedly in Stevie's range. Tho, I dunno how you can compare Welker to Johnson 1. IFI remember correctly Mayock had a difficult time judging the 2011 season's crop of QB's after the combine, and even stated such. The reason being is that some of the QB's ran the spread offense in college, and weren't pure pocket passers per se like Stafford and Bradford in previous years. Gabbert graded out better then all the rest, but then there are other intangibles to take into consideration, like the "it" factor that Tim Tebow has. Looks like Newton also has the "it" factor, plus physically he was off the charts. A bigger stronger Mike Vick. Let not forget how limited Newtons knowledge of play calling was in college. His OC held up a sign on the sideline with numbers on it and Newton read the sign and called the play, and there were only a handful of different play calls. Gabbert may still prove to be the best of that class as his skill set is better suited to today's NFL passing game, time will tell. PS, didn't find anything by Mayock after the combine but did find this interesting read by SI http://sportsillustr...raft/index.html PPS. NFN but I've got to wonder if the Bills scouts- HC- GM were just a bit more secretive about who they really wanted to draft last year they could have gotten Newton as Carolina wasn't totally sold on him until they saw the Bills going gung ho for the guy.

Maybe Stevie is better than we thought
thewildrabbit replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
more then once... probably why the Bills might be balking at paying him top ten $$ -
Gotta tell you, no way does St Louis make that pick at #2 as some team is going to give up the farm for RG3 to the Rams. Unless.... the rams are probably in discussions among themselves right now if they should trade Sam Bradford (who is getting paid by the old CBA way). If they trade him they free up a ton of cash that they could use elsewhere, then they draft RG3 who might just be the better QB anyway. That way they get 2 #1 picks if they trade Bradford or the trade #2 overall pick, sweet dilemma to be in huh RG3 will be the 2nd overall pick, just gotta sort out who will get him.
-
Yea both 2 other RBs were slightly injured, Marshawn with a leg injury and Freddy with a cast on his hand. Both those 2 RB's could have played if the team was that desperate. Apparently it was that desperate because after 3 plays Spiller was benched and Freddy entered that game, and he caught a pass from Trent. How does this kid get drafted that high and he isn't able to start, bad scouting and or bad coaching? How does Gailey name him the starter for the opener? Once he started he didn't get any carries for awhile, he had 7 attempts in that first game for 6 yards! Both Lynch and Jackson played in that game because Spiller was so ineffective. Plus he was no longer the starter after that game. One attempt for 3 yards the next game. My point was that a player taken that high in the draft shouldn't be riding the bench at his position when the team needed so much help elsewhere. The Bills needed a pass rusher and O line help then. Why draft the kid then if you are not gonna use him for 3 years?
-
Nowadays most NFL team don't take a RB in the top 15 unless he is an immediate starter along the lines of Adrian Peterson and makes an impact his first year. I just don't buy the BPA excuse when this team was desperate for a pass rusher and O line help back then. Here it is 3 years later and the guy STILL isn't the starter and the team STILL needs a pass rusher AND O line help....wth, even the 0-16 Detroit Lions weren't that lame....ok,maybe they were. Why does it take 3 years for this regime to understand that they are desperate for pass rush and O line when it could have easily been addressed the very first year. I suppose what bothers me the most is the complete lack of scouting on this player, then the complete lack of coaching him up his first year. How does this kid get named starter on opening day, run three plays and then get benched as RB. He doesn't make an impact as a starting RB for almost a year and a half after he was drafted, and that was only because of an injury to the starter. If this is going to be the scenario behind other BPA so called picks then it makes more sense to draft for a direct need IMO.
-
I recently read a statement by Ralph Wilson where he says " if I make it to the breakfast table in the morning its a good day " So Its highly doubt the Bills owner is making the draft picks recently. Even Jauron had control over the draft, kinda why the Bills drafted so many DB's during his time with Buffalo, and stupid enough to draft a project like Maybin. Again, highly doubtful this owner drafts Maybin if he has total say.
-
If ya don't like Mike Mayock ....welp, then there is Corey Chavous and his website http://www.draftnasty.com/
-
The Bills probably want to pay him where his performance slots him as the 18th best WR in the league. His agent probably wants top ten WR money...which he isn't and may never be. As often as this Bills offense throws you would think he would have 100+ catches like Wes Welker with 122 rec-1500+ yards, Johnson barley broke 1k with 1004 this year and had 1073 last year. He currently is the Bills main receiving threat no question about it, he sorta has them over a barrel and his agent knows it. Hopefully they work it out because the Bills really need him.
-
I agree, all I was doing was pointing out to the OP is that Mayock does some game announcing during the season and probably doesn't get into player evaluating until after the season is over. The OP stated :
-
That link might be before the NFL combine for that year, as i recall Mayock had Stafford as his #1 QB after the combine
