OK, I Am Not Impartial.....
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not just Crick, Stephan Hill is a projected 2nd or 3rd rounder who might go late in the first round due to his combine workout. DeCastro is another strange pick for me, and although I like the guy, the Bills need help at OT. I can see Reiff or Martin depending on what the Dolphins do, and if they sign Manning. BTW, Mallett was selected by the Patriots as trade bait IMO, and they will continue to try and make him look good in pre season games so they can get a #1 from some fool team. That guy would have become hamburger behind the Bills line the last two years -

NFN, but before some of you guys canonize Buddy Nix I suggest you wait until free agency and the draft is over to see what he really gets done. All he did so far is re sign the only decent WR on the team. The big wind out of OBD last off season was RT Tyson Clabo who didn't get signed by the Bills. Then Nix, even when he knew he needed more help for that line at tackle didn't bring in anyone else to bolster that line. In fact he cut his own throat by cutting the only guy with decent experience at center in Geoff Hangartner. Then he traded away a viable #2 WR, but more importantly never replaced him with a less expensive version. Yea, I'm happy the Bills signed Stevie Johnson! But I'm going to temper that with the understanding that so far this GM hasn't built the team properly in either of his first two years. Talk is cheap at this point, how many years does it take to draft a pass rusher...build the line...draft for positions that actually need help badly...stop the run. So far, the main core of the starters on this team were all drafted or brought in under Dick Jauron. STILL waiting to see that proverbial baby! -

All Peyton Manning, all the time!
thewildrabbit replied to thewildrabbit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Soooooo, what Team did you vote for? The DOLTS are really gonna let Manning leave. The Bills still could be in this sweepstakes! Talk about a big splash in free agency This will also have ramifications with that #2 pick and RG3 as Washington- Miami- Cleveland could all go after Manning and land him and be out of that #2 pick. Matt Flynn will also have some impact on that #2 pick Well, first off if you look at it from a Bills fan standpoint the Bills could have had an honest shot at drafting Cam Newton if the Panthers draft Luck last year. Plus, it would be karma that this Colts owner think he knows everything. His father was one of the biggest jerks as an NFL team owner, and now his son who hired Bill Polian and now fired him thinks Luck is a can't miss player. Just tell that to JaMarcus Russell and all the of the rest of the "can't miss kids' http://www.bigcatcou...ussian-roulette Irsay is a moron, Peyton Manning WAS that franchise for the last 10 years, so now that he is injured lets gut the entire team and move on. So now what happens if Luck isn't the next John Elway and needs a team and good coaching around him? -

welp, is it another smoke screen from the FO...like the story about paying 10 million to a head coach after they fired dick? We need to wait a bit to see what actually transpires during the free agency period and draft. Signing Johnson was a good step, now several more to take before real upgrades for this year. -
Fitz Has Possibly Had A Broken Rib Since Toronto?
thewildrabbit replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yikes, I almost didn't believe this story from David Nelson, but in this article both Stevie Johnson and Fitz confirmed it. Just amazing the man could even play, go out on the field and try and win games. Then considering if the HC knew about this injury and didn't sit his QB, instead he just kept calling shotgun passing plays....was he intentionally trying to ruin the mans career? Probably should have sat out until he recovered and let Thigpin take a pounding behind that PoS line without Eric Wood... http://profootballta...cks-rib-injury/ Now this article http://www.torontosun.com/2012/03/05/bills-fitzpatrick-coy-on-rib-injury It really does suck that the team doesn't have enough depth or intelligence to allow these men to heal up for a few weeks On Monday, Fitzpatrick said one thing that inspired him to keep playing in 2011 was watching Johnson fight through shoulder and groin injuries. "To see him going through that, with the injuries he had, limping around and trying to get through practice even -- that motivates me," Fitzpatrick said. "And that motivates other guys to go out there and give it our best as well." -
Nis is a go with the flow type of guy, everything will depend on who is still on the board at the 10 spot. If its Trent Richardson (who would be the BPA) I can envision a trade with Cincy and the Bills getting their two first round picks in exchange for that #10. Then I can see the Bills getting an OT AND a CB, or WR, or OG, or OLB / DE. Jeez ,this one move would so make up for a lot of the past bonehead trade ups to get guys like Losman and McCargo

After Close To 15 Years of Blasting Them
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea, they should also require posters to take an IQ test and not allow complete boobs to post On another note, the Bleacher Report kinda backs up the way I feel about Eric Wood as they ranked him at #7 overall even with his injury. Then go on to state that if he didn't get injured this year he would have been graded as in the top 4 of all centers in the league. Pretty high praise. http://bleacherrepor...centers/page/27 ""Had Wood stayed healthy all year we would be talking about him as a top-four center. His agility and movement in space are elite, and his run blocking isn't far behind. If he is back healthy in 2012, he'll be an All-Pro candidate."" PS to Bill, don't get sucked into an argument with D2K as he is a pure Fitz hater and can't see anything but the QB's flaws. He also refuses to see a QB that made a star out of a 7th round WR, and that WR is about the only decent WR on the team last year. The FO / owner thought enough of Fitz to pay him a ton of money. Also don't forget that this owner has already stated Fitz is the man and will continue to be the starting QB. That the Bills will be best served by getting him some help....some runners, some wide receivers and a tight end that can stay healthy. -
Although VJ would be an improvement to the team in a big way....there is no way the Buffalo Bills lure the guy to this team as he wants to much money and also wants to go to a serious contender. There are so many teams that want this guy. SF-Vikings-Panthers- Patriots- Rams - Redskins..the list is almost endless Chicage Bears http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/05/bears-expected-to-make-run-at-free-agent-vincent-jackson/

here's a monkey wrench for ya!
thewildrabbit replied to swnybillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea he is! "If" he is still there at the 10 spot I'd imagine the Cincy war room going nuts trying to trade up to get him. They have the #17 & #21 picks and DeCastro, Glenn and even Martin could be still be there for the Bills. That trade could go a long way into helping this team, this year. I'd even go for the two guards scenario, and try Glenn at tackle -
After Close To 15 Years of Blasting Them
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea we disagree on Levitre. Although I think he played well at guard, he really stunk it up at center and LT. Again, he was good at guard last season, just not elite. You need elite to be named to the pro bowl IMO. However, we both agree that Andy levitre's play would be greatly enhanced if he had a better player next to him at LT. What also hurt him was when Urbik moved to center. It goes back to that old saying, its tough to soar like an eagle when surrounded by turkeys. I think we also disagree on past players on that line as Jason Peters is an elite player at LT even if no Bills fans want to acknowledge that fact. Guard Derrick Dockery and RT Langston Walker played well under line coach Jim McNally. But then the line play went downhill after his retirement. The problem with that line with Peters, Walker and Dockery was they never did have anyone at the center position worth a damn. Which is just about as much a key position as the tackles. That line needs 5 reasonably good players to be an top effective unit. It really is a darn shame this GM & HC didn't build that line properly when they first got to Buffalo as even top LT's take some time to jell in the offensive scheme. Not every player can step right in and succeed the moment they hit the field I can only hope Nix and Gailey work to improve that line this year. -
After Close To 15 Years of Blasting Them
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree No offense to Bill but this set of linemen grades out with D's and F's in my book with any other QB. The ONLY player who played like a pro bowler last season was center Eric Wood, and it sucks he was injured again or he might have had a shot at getting that honor. This line is mostly masked and protected by the scheme and the QB, so the GM & HC thought they could get away with sub par players...and they did for awhile. But take note that once the Bengals showed other teams how to defend the Bills short quick passing offense in week 4 the offensive scoring started to diminish week by week as the season went on. Even tho the play caller kept calling more and more passing plays. That week 16, 40-14 win over the Denver Bronco's was all the defense & Special Teams scoring as the offense only scored 6 pts, and that was by the RB. The spread formation also accounts for the better RB play as opposing defense can't really stack the box! If the defenders are spread out and if the RB breaks a tackle he makes a big gain. This also accounts for the all the long runs this past year. If you look at the RB play week by week vs last year both Spiller and Jackson had more long runs then in previous years. NFN, but if this team ever wants to compete against the better defenses they need to get a deep passing game working. In order to do that they need to upgrade that line on at least 2-3 positions. JMO -
I think this is the biggest misconception of the entire year for the 2011 Bills. Did you notice that even when the Bills lost their starting LT's and center the sacks on the QB still didn't go up. It is because the scheme was designed to get the ball out in 3 seconds or under on short quick slants. The spread formation allowed the running game to improve because the opposing defense couldn't stack the box. Plus the fact that Fitz was able to get the ball out on most plays in under 3 seconds so that alone negated most of the pas rush. But once the opposing DC's figured out the Bills short quick passing scheme they were pretty much able to shut it down by having the defenders up on the line jamming the WR's and bumping them outta their routes. This pretty much happened by the Bengals in week 4 and gave insight to the rest of the league on how to shut down that Bills offense. Look at the passing stats as the year went on, they kept dropping lower and lower even tho the OC was calling more passing plays. I think the time for piecemeal-ing is over. That line should have been built the first year and further solidified each year by adding depth. The Bills need to bolster that line and add depth if they ever want to see the playoffs. If they fail to build that line for a 3rd straight year I suspect we will have an all new staff and GM next year....perhaps a new QB too.

If Buddy Nix was happy with the talent he had on the roster last off season why then did he pursue Atlanta Falcon free agent RT Tyson Clabo in free agency ? If I recall correctly the Bills even offered more then Clabo accepted from the Falcons. Anyway, if you look back at the 2010 season it was a disaster at RT most of the year and the biggest reason why the Bills only won 4 games IMO. Don't forget they lost 8 straight games and went 0-8 before winning 4 of the last 8. They had signed Cornell Green to man the RT position but he was a horrid acquisition. Nix was forced to find warm bodies off the waiver wire after they benched Green and then quietly released him because of some mysterious injury after only a few games. The center position wasn't a lock down either as Geoff Hangartner was hampered with a bad back and missed 4 games. But what the Bills found out from that injury is that Eric Wood was great at the center position, but he broke his leg and went on IR. Bell played in all 16 games but hampered with some minor injuries all season from what I remember. Then for the 2011 season the LT and center positions failed them, Bell was injured most of the year and even Hairston the rookie missed some games. Then Eric Wood went on IR again the line fell into disarray, the Bills tried to move Levitre to both LT and center at different times and it was a disaster both times. The line finally solidified somewhat towards the end of last season but wasn't nearly the same without Wood at center. My take is the Bills should be looking at both OT and interior linemen in this years draft as it looks like the team will let Bell test the FA market and the fact that they lost Wood to the IR two years in a row. He might be their best linemen, but it doesn't do them much good if he is on IR. I'm thinking Reiff- Martin and or David DeCastro who grades out better then Glenn by scout.com and ESPN, plus he played in a pro style offense and the dude has a 20 '' neck . Personally, I think Glenn is a monster after watching him in the Senior Bowl, and he runs under a 5 second 40 at 345 lbs, what a beast. The Bills need to solidify that line and add some depth, plus give Fitz more time to throw.

Nix has basically stated that the DE / LB pass rushers in the top 20 are over rated and he thinks he can get some good players in rounds 2-3. Also, this years crop of DB's after the first 3 is lame at best and probably the reason he went after Routt so hard. I would be surprised if the Bills draft a DE-LB-WR with that #10 pick this year, I'm thinking OT-DT-CB
-
Most fans don't get that this team still has so many holes at 4-5 positions and also lacks serious depth at many positions that no QB in the league could improve the defensive performance the last few years. They also don't get that Buddy Nix spent his entire career as a scout, director of scouts and pro personnel, and not as a GM. The man covets his own draft picks and doesn't want to ever get caught up in some foolish trade for one player by giving up 2-3 picks this year and next. The Bills will select the a player with that #10 pick.

Mike silver on polian in indy
thewildrabbit replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
wow, what a statement... wanna know what the Charger fans call AJ Smith. "The lord of no rings" Smith sucks big time as GM after firing Marty S right after a 14-2 season. Some of the best talent in the NFL for years and the result is not even a SB appearance as GM Polian built a team in Buffalo that went to 4 straight SB's. He did that with Marv levy as HC Then he went to Carolina and built a team from scratch to the NFC Championship in TWO YEARS, probably would have gotten them to a SB but was hired away by the Colts to be their new GM & president. Hired in 1997 he drafted Payton Manning in 1998, then 10 years of winning AFC East & South Championships, 2 SB appearances and one SB win. even John Butler was way better. PS, I gotta wonder if the peons walking the halls with ear to ear grins now that Polian is fired will still feel the same way in 3 years when the team is still at the bottom of the division, and the owner cleans out the entire FO staff. Anyway, who really shivs a git about how the employees feel about working for a tyrant, particularly if that Tyrant produces a winning team. Winning is the only thing. PPS, AJ Smith didn't leave after Bill Polian was fired, he stayed in Buffalo working under John Butler and left when RW fired Butler. -
Some foolish team is going to give up the farm for RG3, and for the Bills he simply isn't worth it because they still have so many so many holes all over the team.Plus the Bills also lack serious depth at so many positions, and it showed last season when some starters went down. The Bills need O line help, WR help, DE / OLB help, DB help, and still could use depth at other areas. Not to mention that Gailey was still calling 4-5 WR sets with nobody at WR besides Johnson. I dunno perhaps its just me but is he trying to mask the fact that he doesn't have enough valid WR's to run that many 4 WR sets. Just trying to put bodies out on the field to spread out the defense so hopefully it takes coverage away from Johnson? You would think that by spreading the defense out that the Bills would run more often then they actually did. Instead they just kept trying to throw with one decent WR on the field, and opposing teams weren't fooled by this. OTOH, Should the FO pursue Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne in free agency while promising him to draft for the O line with that #10 pick ...I could live with it if RW could part with the $$$ to make it happen. Think of all the season tickets the bills would sell. At the very least if the worst happens and Manning still can't play due to his injury, then cut him and you still have Fitz and a very viable real #1 WR in Wayne.
-
It is pretty sad that this team only saw one starter and impact player from day one in (save Marcel Darius) in 2 drafts. Will anyone from that 2010 draft be a starter this year? I think the team bottomed out for the 2010 season with all those rookie assistant coaches Gailey hired, and now with wannstache taking over the defense this years team should be more competitive just because of that one coaching move. This Bills team still has so many holes that trading away this years and next years picks for a QB at this juncture would be beyond foolish IMO. Signing Johnson, and either drafting or signing free agents at positions OLB-DE-OT-WR that all start and can make an impact should propel this years team to a winning record. But the drawback might be finding 4 starters from the draft and free agency.
-
Jeez, if Mayock states after watching tape the guy played like a 3round pick this last year I gotta question the player. Built like Tarzan, plays like Jane...scout speak My only thought is to talk to the kid and see if there was some underlying problem like a nagging injury or family or girl trouble which can screw up a young man. If indeed there was a problem of some sort, then that deserves some consideration.

No Player worth 10th pick this year
thewildrabbit replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2 QB's 1 RB 2 WR 3 OT 1 G 2 DT 2 DE 1 OLB 2 MLB 1 S 3 CB 20 players with a 5 star rating ESPN has 28 players with a 90 out of 100 rating so the statement that no player is worth the #10 is not true. The Buffalo Bills draft will depend on who falls to them and it looks like it could be a WR-OT -DE-DB. With 3 really good OT's it could be the year the Bills finally try and replace Peters or it could be another CB. The best player in this years draft might just be RB Trent Richardson, as BPA he may still be there at #10
