  1. Man, I so hope the bills draft a QB with that 10th pick... so the fans clamoring for him to start get their wish....and then watch him get beaten to death behind that crappy O line everyone thinks is so great. OTOH, if he sits on the bench, he could have McCargo's or Maybins old spots right next to Spiller:lol:
  2. Exactly! Nix is going to aggressively get some sleep the night before and then he will aggressively sign other players cut by teams trying to clear cap space. You guys that think the Bills will even make a legit offer to either Vincent Jackson or Mario Williams are delusional. Anyway, neither of those two players are worth the money they will get this year by some team over paying. Last time I looked Mario was not Reggie White, but he will get paid like he is. Last time I looked VJ is not megatron, but he will certainly get mega bucks for a WR that has about the same stats as Stevie Johnson, and yet he played on a team with a better QB, better coaching, better scheme, better all around talent. IDC how Nix does it, but he needs to build the line, add depth. Find a good pass rusher or two. Find a good WR, add a CB. Over paying for one player isn't going to fix many areas.
  3. If "baby Jesus" does become available I'd think that the Jags would go crazy trying to obtain him I kinda think Denver is goofy even thinking of letting Tebow go, it might take him 2 more years to conform to being the pocket passer that John Elway wants so badly. But once he does fully develop he could be as good as any, don't forget this guy is a winner and sparks everyone around him to play better.
  4. Everything is pure speculation until the chips start falling Tuesday. I've not read that Tampa Bay is interested in VJ, however I have read that Washington and Chicago are willing to give up the farm to get him. Both VJ and Marque Colston will strike it rich in free agency and command more money then they are worth. I realize that VJ would perfectly fit exactly what Nix likes in WR's, but Colston has done better. ya gotta remember that the Bills don't have the team talent around them like Drew Brees or Phillip Rivers does. Would they be as successful in Buffalo? Yeah I agree with the #1 pick going to be a LT as there should be 3 worthy in the top 10 vs short armed DE's in the top ten that Buddy is on record stating he doesn't like. But that could be a smoke screen as I think he will target DE Melvin Ingram, and if he is gone then perhaps a LT. Quinton Coples should fit the perfect mold for Buddy Nix in what he is looking for in a DE, but with motivation issues I doubt the Bills select him. LT-pass rush- WR, I'm hoping Nix gets them done PS In regards to Mario Williams, they guy is good no question. But for the money he will command is he as good as Reggie White or Julius Peppers? I don't see it. But then with a healthy Kyle Williams and MD in the interior, along with Cris Kelsay at DE any top DE on the other side that will require a double team to slow him should open it up for the other guys, they can't double team 3 players every down.
  5. Now Tenn owner Bud Adams wants Manning badly, willing to pay whatever it takes http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/11/bud-adams-wants-peyton-manning-in-tennessee/ curse the mods for killing my poll, Tennessee was in that poll and nobody took them So now Denver, KC, Arizona, Tenn and Miami will all pay whatever it takes to sign Manning:w00t: This is gonna be a fun week
  6. Kinda early for this poll, far to soon for me to predict anything at this point We don't even know the free agents teams will acquire, Jets, Dolphins, Patriots. We don't know what players will be drafted to what teams. Does Miami acquire Peyton Manning? to many questions, not enough answers.
  7. Yea I saw that. It still begs the question... who would be the #1 WR if both have about the same stats. Would there be any animosity if VJ starts to see the majority of the balls or vice versa. VJ has had only one year with 68 receptions back in 2009, and averages about 60 receptions a year even on a much better team then Buffalo has had. Some team is going to over pay for Jackson.
  8. Vincent Jackson and Marque Colston will hit the jackpot in free agency this year, probably 12million+ for VJ. Will Stevie still be happy knowing that the guy opposite him is making almost double what he makes, and had about the same stats last season? Colston had better stats and may command less money, that is "IF" he wants to come to Buffalo. then there is the pie, should the Bills sign either VJ or Mario they won't have much money left over for other free agents...one big slice or several regular ones. PS, I don't see Vincent Jackson as a "franchise changer" or he would have done that in San Diego with Phillip Rivers on a much better team, better coaches, better scheme, better O line to allow deep passing. Calvin Johnson OTOH IS a franchise changer. If the Bills were smart they would find a way to get a LT and draft WR Stephen Hill 6'5'' 200 lbs and he ran a 4.36. Hill with that kind of speed really could be a franchise changer. Plus since he was required to block heavily in that run oriented GT offense, so he is an excellent blocker
  9. I would think it would depend on if the Bills are willing to let LT Bell hit free agency, if so then LT It also might depend on If Melvin Ingram is still there, short arms and all.
  10. Only 34-37 receptions the last two years, plus only started 16 games the last two years...BUT! If fully healthy he could be a great weapon in Gailey's constant aerial attack I kinda feel bad for Andrew Luck, man is that team going to be gutted for him
  11. Excellent post, couldn't have said it any better! Fans younger then myself looking out over the past decade of losing teams, bad coaching and talent evaluation ineptitude must truly think that Buddy Nix is the next Bill Polian. That Chan Gailey is one of the best offensive minds in the NFL. Perhaps both men are better then any since GM John Butler, and HC Wade Phillips. So far neither have proven to be even close to those two in terms of wins. There was a time when the fans and media were far more critical of the mistakes made by the GM and HC. While Nix has done some very good things to change the team I still have to question why it takes 3 years to find a pass rusher, 3 years to build the line. I get that fans want to defend the guy because he IS better then anything since John Butler, but that doesn't justify all his mistakes the past 2 years in my view. Still waiting to see the proverbial baby!!
  12. aww, ya killed my poll Manning might visit a lot of teams, mostly in the AFC... but I think he will end up in Miami
  13. Ingram is the only DE I'd want in the first. Nix has a history of going with on how the draft falls to him, rather then trade around like some teams. Ingram should be there at the 10 spot, if not I suspect Nix will draft an OT
  14. 14 million and Indy will want something in return.... I'd rather see the Bills get Mario
  15. You apparently keep missing the point that those players were drafted or signed and acquired under Dick Jauron, his era!! Tom Modrak was the Bills chief scout! Nix didn't make any choices on draft picks, that is what jauron did, Marv Levy even stated as such! Nix doesn't get credit for the draft choices while Jauron was HC and de facto GM. The point is, that those players were already on the team in 2010 when Nix was promoted to GM. Buddy Nix gets credit for 2010-2011 drafts and free agency. Remind me again of all those players drafted in 2010 that started in 2010, or the free agents acquired in 2010 that made an impact in 2010. Someone mentioned the team was fun to watch under Gailey! yea, for a few games in 2010 they were competitive against some good teams, even tho they went 4-12 and started 0-8. Then they looked good first part of last season. But man, some of those games were unbearable to watch both years. The Bills fell on their face because of injuries and a lack of depth at key positions. No pass rush, one decent WR and the Bills kept throwing out of 4-5 WR sets. I'm not a Bills hater, just a realist who see's that the team went 4-12, 6-10. the last two years when i expected them to be better then Jaurons crappy teams. Trent Edwards might have sucked some serious moose dangle, but the Bills went 7-9 with him at QB! I'm happy the Bills signed Johnson and Chandler, 2 players already on the team from last year. Now waiting to see the "aggressive" Buddy Nix this year, and can't wait to see the players he brings in to fix the pass rush, the O line, the WR corps.
  16. Buffalo and Niagara Falls used to be "the" place for a honeymoon.... It still might be on the Canadian side. The city of Buffalo lost that stench of the steel mills years ago, but the population is still declining year after year. During the 50's the population was 500,000 plus, now about 260,000. The weather is still a big factor as to why players don't like Buffalo. But then add in a Buffalo Bills owner who has been notoriously cantankerous and frugal over his 50 year reign and the weather isn't the worst part. Even Jim Kelly cried when he heard he was drafted by the Bills. OJ didn't want to come to Buffalo either. Other NFL players took notice when the Bills didn't give Jason Peters the money he deserved, then traded him away. Gotta be tough for Buddy Nix to lure in top talent.Jauron tried to trade for Tony Gonzalez, he refused to come to Buffalo. OTOH, it helped keep Donovan McNabb away Sometimes its good to be the Buffalo Bills. I look at this team now and see they signed Stevie Johnson, they signed Scott Chandler. Nix is talking about being aggressive in free agency this year, unlike the last two years. If the Bills can field a competitive team and get a winning record, that would go a long way to help bring in free agents
  17. Exactly where in my post did I say Nix inherited a team rich with talent? He inherited a 6-10 / 7-9 team and made it worse....not better! Five players? I count 9+ others i didn't mention. Both Poz, and Whitner would both still be Buffalo Bills and starting if they didn't choose to leave. If Lynch were still with the Bills Spiller would be 3rd string. That 2010 draft class didn't start one player from day one of the 2010 season, and yet it was a bad 4-12 team. Those players only made the field because of injuries to the starters this past year. Perhaps now, 3 years after they were drafted some might get a starting job and finally earn a roster spot. CJ Spiller is still not the starter after three years, the 2010 #9 pick overall is still a backup to a player brought in by Levy / Jauron. Starting QB...Jauron Starting RB...Jauron Starting #1 WR...Jauron Starting center ...Jauron starting guard...Jauron starting LT... Jauron Those players are the best offensive players on the team and all were brought in by Jauron / Levy, who had the final say in the draft. I get a kick that fans so eager to defend Nix will state he drafted Wood & Levite, oh but Jauron drafted Maybin. This GM in one of his first press conferences stated " your going to think I'm crazy, but this team is not that far away" Clearly he looked over the roster and thought the team could win with the talent he had, or he wouldn't have made that statement. Then after the team going losing their first 8 games in a row he back tracked and said " this will take some time." The problem wasn't the talent on the field, it was all the inexperienced and bad coaches Chan Gailey hired. I suppose next you will defend George Edwards and the two years wasted switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and now back to a 4-3. That 2010 Bills team should have been better then 4-12 had this GM & HC made the right moves. Cornell Green at 2 million a year was a complete waste at RT and was benched and finally cut after only 5 games. Then Nix was forced to find warm bodies off the waiver wire to fill in at RT. This one area was a big reason why the offense couldn't run or pass very well in the first half of 2010. This same basic offensive talent that was on the team in 2009 brought in by Jauron was here in 2011 and beat the Patriots, and almost beat the NY Giants at their home field. The Spiller pick when the team was desperate for a pass rusher and O line help even back then in 2010 still makes no sense. Why does it take 3 years to find a pass rusher? Both this GM and HC have made their share of mistakes or the team would have at least beaten Jaurons 7-9 record by now, and they haven't ...which in my view isn't all that great. I just don't get why you guys are so enamored with Nix & Gailey and a 4-12 to 6-10 record so far.
  18. Not to pee in your Cheerios, but I see things totally different from you. First of all Fitz was already on the team when Buddy Nix got to Buffalo as GM. What bugs me is that thru two full drafts and free agency periods there are still problem areas that were never really addressed the first two years. If you look at the core star starters on this team, Fitz, Fred Jackson, Stevie Johnson, Kyle Williams, George Wilson, Andy Levitre, Eric Wood, Chris Kelsay, Jairus Byrd were all brought in under Dick Jauron, not Buddy Nix! Why does it take 3 years to find a pass rusher? Why does it take 3 years to build that O line, and that line is a big reason why the offense failed the last two years, injuries and no proper depth. The defense is still as bad as it was when Nix took over, switching to a 3-4 and now back to a 4-3 has been moronic. Nix was a retired ex head of scouts and personnel and was promoted to GM. RW didn't hire a headhunter to find and bring in a top GM, instead he hired a man who had no actual GM experience at age 70. Nix has made a bunch of mistakes in his first two years. He brought in some totally useless players and over paid them. He has drafted for positions that were already deep, and failed to address areas of desperate need. While Nix has done some good things he has also made plenty of mistakes. Chan Gailey was fired from his two previous jobs and was then hired and promoted to an NFL head coach. His mistakes were hired a DC that was down right horrible, and fielded the worst defense against the run in the entire 50 year history of the franchise, and yet retained him for a second year. Gailey hired a bunch of his assistants from his days as HC of Georgia Tech. Those inexperienced assistants were more then likely the biggest reason the team declined its first year under Gailey as the player roster is about the same as when Jauron was the HC. I dunno about you but I didn't notice that much difference between Gailey calling the offensive players and when the Bills had Turk Schonert calling the plays. It seems like both were trying to run the Patriots offensive play book without the Patriots players. Constant shotgun passing plays with only one decent WR. The Bills ran the exact same game plan no matter who the players were on the field, its as if injuries had no impact, Gailey was going to run his offense regardless. So far this HC & GM still haven't even equaled Marv levy & Dick Jaurons record of 7-9, and yet the core starters are all from that supposedly bad Jauron era. The only real difference has been the changing of the GM, coaches and scheme. I'll praise this regime when they beat dick Jamorons record of 7-9
  19. Don't believe me... Yea well, just listen to what Mike Mayock and Charley Casserly had to say about this kid ...has great feet...ok ...just watch the vid Mike Mayock and Charley Casserly discuss the NFL potential of speedy 6-foot-4 Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-path-to-the-draft/09000d5d8276ba2e/The-next-Calvin-Johnson Analysis Release: Has exceptional length, reach, and power in hands, and easily negates the press. Not overly sudden, needs some steps to get to top speed. Tends to release a bit high and upright. Not overly explosive initially, but top speed is impressive once attained. Hands: Has generally good hands, with the capacity for the outstanding catch. Tremendous ability to high point. Good at tracking the throw and adjusting his route. Natural hand catcher. Has great leaping ability and can extend and snatch with elite skill, even at full speed. Route Running: Has to gear down a bit to make sharp cuts. Is best when running routes that require smaller cuts. Has great top end speed and is really difficult to match on deep routes with a few not-so-sharp cuts. After the Catch: Has great top speed. While not that shifty in the open field, has a good stiff arm, is strong, and can break tackles. Blocking: Top grade here. Has outstanding range, technique, and power. Consistently dominated smaller DBs and had success blocking LBs. Was a focus blocker on the GaTech offense with plays designed to run behind his blocks. Intangibles: Smart, durable, hard working athlete. No apparent reason to question a high intangibles grade here, which is important for a prospect going from a triple option to the NFL, not a small adjustment for a WR. NFL Comparison: Darrius Heyward-Bey - Oakland Raiders http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1665228 This kid will keep edging up the mock draft charts as the draft gets closer and closer....6'4'', 215lbs, and ran a 4.36 40. plus he is already a top rated blocker....he won't make it out of the first round!! .
  20. Sweet, this means a lot to the team, excellent news
  21. The Bills are looking for a big, fast WR opposite WR Stevie Johnson to open up the passing game more. Should no options become available in the draft. with that 10th pick, will WR Justin Blackmon 6'1'' 210 (who refused to run a 40 at the combine) Then WR Michael Floyd 6'3'' 220lbs and runs a 4.42 40. both be gone? Reports are saying the Bills want Vincent Jackson, but for 11-12 million a year he will get in free agency, or it could be more like 14-16 million if some team goes crazy? Plus the Chicago Bears like many teams are going after Jackson big time. Stevie Johnson had about the same stats as VJ last year so this really doesn't look like a viable option. DeSean Jackson doesn't fit Buddy Nix's mold as a WR, plus the kid was franchise tagged. But reports are the Eagle are still not happy with his play he could be had in a trade. Andy Reid benched him in one game and are said to be very leery about giving this kid a big contract Jackson was told to stay home while the team went to Arizona because he missed a special teams meeting. My take is this situation with Jackson is almost the same with what happened to the Buffalo Bills and Jason Peters. He saw everyone around him getting big money and he got frustrated and upset with the situation. The Bills could make an overture to the Eagles AFTER this years draft and trade 2013 draft picks for him. The kid is only 5'10'', 175 lbs but he is a game breaker on special teams and at WR. He could come cheaper then Vincent Jackson and be a better overall threat then VJ. The Bills could offer like a 2nd round pick to the Eagle for him. then talk to him and find out what kind of money he would be happy with. Another player who had about the same stats as Stevie Johnson at WR so not very wise to overpay with picks or money. Marques Colston of the Saints might just fit the bills at 6'4'' 230 lbs, that's a big boy and a Brandon Marshall type. Colston has turned in better numbers the Stevie has but then he has been on a better team with super accurate Drew Brees at QB, so expect Colston to ask for more money then Johnson got from Buffalo. Both VJ and Colston's agents will be looking at what Buffalo paid Johnson to be starting points for their clients. Both Colston and Jackson could really hit the FA Jackpot this year. Realistically the Bills should be looking at should be looking at players like Mario Manningham- Reggie Wayne- Pierre Garcon who all should command less money then Johnson got. The Wildcard in all of this might just be a one year deal to Randy Moss who just ran a sub 4.4 40 for the Saints. But then we all know if Moss isn't 100% motivated for whatever reason he gives about 50%...if that. Sooo, It might be wise of Buddy Nix to trade back with the Bengals in Trent Richardson is still on the board at the 10 spot, get their 17th and 21st picks in the first round. Then draft an OT like Martin or Reiff or DE /LB at 17, then get the next Randy Moss in Stephen Hill at 21. Even if Richardson isn't there it still might be a wise move to trade back if there are no prospects the Bills covet at the 10th pick. Then there is Stephen Hill who ran a 4.36 at 6'4'' 2-15 at the combine. Will he already be gone before the Bills pick in the second round? Hill is already being compared to Calvin Johnson and he would be ranked even higher in the draft if he didn't play in a run oriented offense at GT. He only had 28 receptions for 820 yards last season and 5 TD's. It is already noted that some mock drafts have Cleveland or the 49ers drafting him late in the first round. I know it sounds crazy to be looking at this kid with that 10th pick. But then, what would a Megatron clone be worth to the Buffalo Bills? I have no doubt that if Al Davis were still around he would be trading up in the draft to get this kid
  22. From the votes it looks like Miami is the consensus....from an objective view, he recently bought a house in Miami. The Phins have a new HC who was the Packers OC and a new offensive coaching staff . Brandon Marshal at WR, Reggie Bush at RB, Jake Long at LT and a good O line with Mike Pouncey at center, good tight ends. Unlike the Bills they have Cameron Wake as a pass rusher Peyton Manning would make stars out of TE Anthony Fasano and WR Brian Hartline. Peyton Manning to the Jets or Dolphins makes either team an instant SB contender ........ http://profootballta...power-rankings/ Texans...wow, instant SB contender with a top WR in Andre Johnson & TE. #1 defense...AND in same division as the Colts Chiefs ... big upgrade Ravens...upgrade Broncos ...upgrade Jets...upgrade Dolphins...big upgrade, + Brandon Marshall Which team will it be, we find out in a week! C'mon guys, think about it! The Manning family doesn't want another Manning in the NFC to compete against his own brother for the NFC title. What they want is for the brothers to meet in the SB, for that matter so does the NFL from an publicity and historic standpoint.
  23. Mayock's take on Ingram, Mayock's pick is Ingram, who stands 6-2, 276 pounds and was one of the most versatile defenders in the NCAA. The Dolphins will be transitioning to a 4-3 base defense this year, but will still play with multiple fronts and schemes depending on the down and situation. And Ingram terrorized the SEC last year (15 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and two interceptions) while playing all over the field – as a nose tackle, hand-in-the-dirt defensive end, stand-up pass rusher and even as a middle linebacker. “He’s one of those guys, kind of like Justin Tuck, where you can have fun with him,” Mayock said. “And he’s shown he has the aptitude to learn all those different positions.” I've been clamoring for the Bills to build that O line for as long as I can remember, but now looking at Peyton Manning going to Miami or the Jets, I'd say draft Ingram!! http://blogs.palmbea...st-round-needs/
  24. I think a boatload of money might work, dunno about an actual boat FWIW, Buddy Nix has his work cut out for him in bringing any top player into Buffalo at this point. ...a decade of losing...a notoriously temperamental and frugal owner... the city....the weather / snow... Players want a shot at a ring IMO, they gotta be almost desperate to even look at a team that isn't a serious contender nowadays.
  25. Mario Williams would go a long way to helping the Bills pass rush all by himself, and that would be considered an aggressive move for certain. The Bills have been notoriously frugal the last few years, it still remains to be seen who the Bills will actually sign On Coples, Coples raised a lot of red flags last year with effort issues. He had just 7.5 sacks in 13 games and was criticized for playing at half-speed so as to avoid injury. “I am not a Quinton Coples guy,” Mayock said. “He looks the part, he’s pretty, he’s got all kinds of ability and he’s going to remind people of Julius Peppers. That all sounds pretty good, but I’d be scared to death there, because he did not play well or hard as a senior.” http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2012/02/22/mike-mayock-nfl-draft-board-not-a-good-fit-for-miami-dolphins-first-round-needs/ According to Mayock after watching the film on Coples he stated that he played like a 3rd rounder this past year, not a first rounder. If it comes down to motivating a player... jeez, just look at what the Bills did with Lynch, Maybin and others. the last thing this team needs is a player whose motivation is questionable
